Macaluso, Mark M. - Mark M. Macaluso died on December 25, 1998. Interment in Marion Cemetery. Mark is survived by his wife, Valerie Macaluso; four children, Drew, Katrina, Nathaniel and Daniel; parents, Michael and Dorothy Macaluso; brothers and sisters: Donna (Jim) Gould, Marion (Alan) Glaser, Paul Macaluso, Laura (Michael) Zawacki, John (Amy) Macaluso, Leslie (Peter) Mills, Steven (Anne) Macaluso, Diane (Brian) Abel and Andrea (Kris) Schofield; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas.

Spence, Frances L. - Frances L. Spence, 85, of Bristol Harbour, Canandaigua, died on December 26, 1998 at Thompson Hospital. Frances was a graduate of Geneseo State Teachers College and Teachers College at Columbia University, where she received her bachelor's degree. She taught school for 34 years in places like Gorham, Lyons and Newark. She also taught at a dependent school in Madrid, Spain and Wiesbaden, Germany. Frances was an associate professor at Oswego State University. She also was a member of the Starkey Methodist Church. She belonged to the Retired Teacher's Association of Yates County. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee. Frances was predeceased by her husband Byron Spence. She is survived by sister, Dorothy LaFever of Starkey; two brothers, Donald Disbrow of Maryland, Thomas of Dundee; two step-children, Katherine Bixby of Chicago and Thomas Spence of Hyde Park, NY; six step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Laurette, Harold F. - Harold F. Laurette of Sodus, age 73, died at the Wayne County Nursing Home on December 27, 1998. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughter, Carol Laurette, MI: three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie Voigt of Lyons and Mildred (William) Tinklepaugh of Sodus; brother, Peter (Lucy) Laurette of Newark; nieces and nephews.

Carmer, Dr. Myron E. - Myron E. Carmer, MD, 81, of Lyons, died Tuesday, December 8, 1998 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Dr. Carmer had once owned and operated the E. J. Barber Hospital in Lyons. He retired from practice in 1980. Carmer's father, John Carmer, also a doctor, had at one time, owned the Doctors Hospital on West Miller St., Newark. Dr. Carmer was educated at Hamilton College and Columbia University. He served in the Navy during World War II. Wayne County residents had a high regard for Dr. Carmer, who was a former President of the Lyons Chamber of Commerce, and former member of the Board of Directors of The Lyons National Bank. Survivors include his wife Ruth; daughter, Mrs. Peter (Nancy) Doubleday of Southern Pines, NC; son, James, of Lincoln, NE, and two grandchildren.

Stapleton, Lucille Roesch - Lucille Roesch Stapleton, 96, of Armstrong Living Center, Newark, formerly of Geneva, died December 16, 1998 at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark. Mrs. Stapleton was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 6, 1902, and raised in Jenkintown, PA. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Economics from the College Rochelle in 1925 and a Master of Arts degree in History from New York State University in 1928. She taught in the New York City Public School system until her marriage to Richard T. Stapleton in 1935 brought her to Geneva. Mrs. Stapleton taught in the Geneva City School system and area schools for 22 years, 17 years of which were with the Mathematics Department at the Geneva Junior High School. She has been a member of St. Francis DeSales Church in Geneva and its Rosary Society. For the past three years, she had been a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Newark. She was a member of the National Retired Teacher's Association, the NYS Retired Teachers Association, and the Ontario County Retired Teacher's Association. She had been a member of the Geneva Historical Society, the League of Women Voters, and the College Club of Geneva. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Geneva. She is survived by 15 nieces and nephews, including Bernadette D'Amico of Geneva, Edith Miller, Sherry DeRuyter, Stephen Mooney, Kevin Mooney, all of Newark, and Clifford Mooney of New Jersey. Also surviving are 22 grand-nieces and nephews and fifteen great-grand-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Richard T. Stapleton in 1986, a sister Phelomena Mooney and two brothers Edgar and Alfred Roesch.

Fenyn, Hendrik W. - Hendrick "Henk" Fenyn, 66, died on Sunday, December 20, 1998 after a long illness. Henk was born the son of Adriaan and Willemina VanderHeuvel Fenyn, March 17, 1932 in Holland. He was self-employed as a mason contractor specializing in fireplaces. He was involved in building many homes and businesses in the village, town and surrounding areas including his church, Arcadia Reformed Church, Hope Avenue Apartments and the Sherwin Williams Store. Norm Waterman proudly flew the Army flag in honor of Henk's service to this country during WWII. Henk was a member of the Arcadia Zoning Board of Appeals, the Newark VFW Post 2883, Newark American Legion and the Newark Elks Lodge. Henk is survived by his wife of 39 years, Johanna Fey Fenyn; sons, Adrian "Ed" (Mary Ann) Fenyn and Timothy Fenyn both of Newark; daughter, Pamela (Fred) White of Rochester; two grandsons; three granddaughters; brother, Adrian (Mary Jo) Fenyn of Newark; sisters, Jane (Ray) Jeszenka of Pittsford and Jeannette (Marvin) Gage of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

VanZandt, Donald T. - Donald T. VanZandt, 84, died peacefully Saturday, December 19, 1998 at the Seneca Nursing Home in Waterloo. Mr. VanZandt was born the son of Earl and Etta Thayer VanZandt, January 28, 1914 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. He was a manager at Calcite Plant in Michigan Limestone Operations in Rogers City Michigan until 1964 when he was transferred to United States Steel Corp. in Pittsburgh, PA. There he served as assistant Sales Manager, Raw Materials Division until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Van Zandt was a member of Park Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder for many years. He was a former Boy Scout Leader and past president of the Rogers City School Board in Michigan. The funeral home proudly flew the Navy flag in honor of his service to our country dwing WWII. Interment at Ottawa Cemetery in Pontiac, Michigan. His Wife, Peggy, predeceased Mr. VanZandt on February 18, 1998. Mr. VanZandt is survived by his son, Brent N. VanZandt of Groton, New York; daughters, Jacquelyn (Rob) Fairbanks of Mihigan, Nancy (Larry) Johnson of Newark and Carol Davies of Clifton Springs; eight grandchildren and four nephews.

Pickering, Helen M. - Helen M. Pickering, 64, of Arcadia Zurich Norris Road, died at ViaHealth of Wayne, Sodus Campus, on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998 after an extended illness. Helen was born in Sodus on Oct. 14, 1934, a daughter of Abraham and Ethel Chalker DeRue, where she had been a life long resident. Interment at Sodus Rural Cemetery. Surviving are her husband, Charles; daughter, Mary Ann Seeley of Port Gibson; three sons, Gordon (Kathleen) of Lyons, Dale (Teresa) of Sodus, and Bruce (Lisa) of Sodus; 11 grandchildren; and sister, Carolyn Norrison of Palmyra.

Cornwell, Catherine D. - Catherine D. Cornwell, 75, of Maple Ridge Rd., Arcadia, died Dec. 20, 1998 at the DeMay Living Center, Newark. Catherine was born in Rochester, November 27, 1923, the daughter of John and Dorothy Hill Morath. She was an LPN at Rochester General and Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, and was a member of the Fairville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Catherine is survived by Paul, her husband of 30 years; four daughters, Mrs. George (Kathy) Boh of Geneva, Ohio, Mrs. Jim (Kris) Calabro of Amherst, Ohio, Mrs. Robert (Karen) Smith of Marion, and Mrs. Joe (Michelle) Lawrence of New Bern, NC; three stepsons, Kim (Sharon) Cornwell of Sodus, Wayne (Kelly) Cornwell of Newark, and Andrew Cornwell of Lyons; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Shelly Hutchinson of East Rochester, and Jackie Nerau of Rochester; mother-in-law Iva Cornwell; nieces and nephews.

Schermerhorn, Edward H. - Edward H. Schermerhorn, 82, of Ontario Street, Phelps, died December 20, 1998, at Clifton Springs Hospital. Edward was born January 3, 1916 in Phelps, the son of Harley and Delphia Schermerhorn. He lived in the area all of his life. He retired from Cliftronics in Clifton Springs and had served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Phelps American Legion Post and the Newark VFW. Interment in Resthaven Cemetery. Edward is survived by his wife Gertrude; three stepchildren, Marjorie Baker of Palmyra, Sharon (David) Henri of Middlesex, and Allen (Vicky) Nichols of Dexter, NY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Hood of Waterloo; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alice and Richard Bremer of Phelps; nieces and nephews.

Altman, Charlotte C. - Charlotte C. Altman, 66, of Clifton Springs, died Dec. 10, 1998, at Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic. Charlotte was born Jan. 9, 1932, in Newark, the daughter of Nuntz and Margaret DeMarco, and had lived in the area her whole life. She was self-employed in her home as a family care provider for the State of New York for many years. Charlotte was a member St. Felix Church. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert Altman of Clifton Springs; four daughters, Dorothy (Fred) Cardinale of Jamestown, NY, Mary Ann (Paul) Steo of Pittsford, Donna (Steve) Sachell of Victor, and Roberta (Don) Vankouwenberg of Newark; son, David (Kelly) Altman of East Rochester; 10 grandchildren; brother, Rudy (Lillian) DeMarco of Newark; sister, Mary Jane (Stan) DeRidder of Clifton Springs; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Gary, Alice - Mrs. Alice Gary, 92, formerly of East Union St., Newark, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at Via Health of Wayne in Sodus. Mrs. Gary was born Oct. 11, 1906 in Holland, the daughter of Benjamin and Regina Bruggman Bankert. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Alice for many years had worked at Reed Manufacturing and the Hickox Co. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by a sister, Emma Gary of Newark, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Gary, Sept. 28, 1971.

Robyn, Josephine - Josephine "Josie" Robyn, 81, died Dec. 10, 1998, at Via Health of Wayne (Newark) after a brief illness. Josie was born the daughter of Daniel and Anna Robyn, Sept. 4, 1917, in Phelps. She had worked at the Ontario Telephone Co. as an operator. She retired from the Newark Developmental Center. Josie was a member of the Arcadia Reformed Church and the Way-Ont Saddle Club. She is survived by her brother, Daniel Robyn of Phelps; a niece, Dorothy (Robert) Crough of PA; a nephew, Ray Phillips of North Rose and several close friends. She was predeceased by her sister Sarah Salisbury.

Finn, John - John Finn, 77, died December 13, 1998. Mr. Finn was a retired Liberty School custodian, a 50-year member of the Liberty Fire Department, member of the Palmyra Sharing and Caring Club, and a member of St. Gregory's Church. Entombment in White Haven Cemetery. John is survived by two daughters, Diane (Allen) Welch, Marion and Denise (Frank) Racaniello, Westchester, NY; three grandchildren, Aimee, Michael and Jeffrey Welch; two brothers, Frank and Michael Finn, both of Liberty, NY; a sister in Florida, Ellen Clapper.

Orbaker, Margaret - Margaret Orbaker, 89, of Marion and Williamson, died December 12, 1998. She was a WWII Captain in the Army Nurse Corps and a retired Myers Community Hospital nurse. Interment in Marion Cemetery. Margaret is survived by two daughters, Barbara (James) DeFisher of Marion and Muriel (Michael) Tunley of Williamson; grandchildren, David DeFisher, Stacey (Steven) VanDerBrook, Lisa (Jason) Morohan, Michael Tunley; and 5 great-grandchildren.

Meade, Kevin H. - Kevin H. Meade, 42, of Clyde, died December 13, 1998 after an automobile accident. He was employed by the Water Department for the Town of Ontario. He is survived by his parents, Harold "Pat" and Wilma Meade of Clyde; two brothers, Paul (Nancy) Meade of Marion, and Charles Meade of Phelps; several aunts, uncles, and nieces.

Costello, Joseph L. - Joseph L. Costello of Webster, formerly of Newark, died November 27, 1998. A World War II Army veteran, he retired from Newark Developmental Center after many years as an Occupational Therapist. Interment in White Haven Memorial Park, Perinton. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elvia; his loving daughters, Carol (Walt) Zehder of Penfield, and Rita (Glenn) Creel of California; grandchildren, David and Wendy Zehder and Amy Rose Creel; sister, Betty Wolosyn, of Newark; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ross, John J. - John J. Ross, 81, of Las Vegas, NV, died Sunday, December 13, 1998. He was born in Newark on September 5, 1917, graduated from Newark High School in June 1936, and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in June 1941. In 1941, he was drafted and served 28 months active duty in the South Pacific Islands. Before retiring in 1978, Mr. Ross was Personnel Director of several Veteran Hospitals. He is survived by his wife, Rose, four children and several grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Venturin of Jacksonville, FL, and Vivian Renaldi of Newark. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Charles A. Ross, who was the Managing Editor of the Courier-Gazette for many years. John Ross is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Higgins, Margaret M. - Margaret M. Higgins, age 93, died Dec. 14, 1998 in Blossom View Nursing Home, Sodus. Mrs. Higgins was a long-time resident of Binghamton. She was a retiree of Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, where she was Housekeeper for the Sisters of Charity Convent House. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack; her sons, Joseph, Gerald, John D. and William. She is survived by two daughters, Beverly Layton and Elizabeth Savage both of Marion; son, Robert of CA; 16 grandchildren; and 20 greatgrandchildren.

Nephew, Irene P. - Irene P. Nephew, 89, of Fairville Station Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at the DeMay Living Center. Mrs. Nephew was born in Lyons September 4, 1909, the daughter of Michael and Mary Moran Palone. She retired in 1972 from the Newark Developmental Center, where she worked in the laundry. She was a member of the Fairville Fire Dept. Womens Auxiliary. Interment in Fairville Cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Mary VanEenaeme of Newark; two granddaughters, Vera Hack, Laurie Henrie both of Newark; six great-grandchildren, Megan, Matthew, Amy, Chad, Cory, Kaitlyn; two sistersin-law, Ethel Palone of Clyde, Alice Palone of Newark; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond in 1968.

Favata, Raida Dedomenico - Raida Dedomenico Favata, 76, of Amy Drive, Wheatfield, died Friday, November 27, 1998 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness. Mrs. Favata was born September 17, 1922 in Spezzano Piccolo, Province of Calabria, Italy, the daughter of Sully and Rosina (Mileti) Dedomenico, she came here in 1926. After coming to this country, she lived in Newark, New York. She was the wife of the late Dr. Benedict V. Favata (1992) and they lived in Rochester for a number of years. She moved to Beverly Hills, California where she later managed a luxury apartment building. She moved back to Rochester and lived in Niagara Falls for the past year. She received a Master's Degree from Iowa State University in Speech and Hearing Pathology. She worked at the Chicago Institute for the Deaf, St. Louis Institute and the Rochester Institute for the Deaf. She was a Carmelite Nun for five years in Loretta, Pennsylvania and a member of the Poor Clare's for two years in Warrick, Virginia. She and her husband enjoyed collecting antiques and she was listed in the Who's Who of American Antique Experts. She was the wife of the late Dr. Benedict V. Favata (1992). She is survived by her sister, Concetta Koury and a nephew. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Town of Lewiston.

McCarthy, Mildred M. - Mildred M. McCarthy, age 77 of Bliss Road, Red Creek, died December 4, 1998 at the Newark Campus of Wayne ViaHealth. Interment at St. Lawrence Cemetery in North Lawrence, NY. Mrs McCarthy was predeceased by her husband, Timothy C., in 1955. She is survived by five sons, Timothy of Sodus, Dale of Port Byron, Ray of Sodus, Lee of North Rose, Gary of Newark; many grandchildren and great- grandchildren; her brother Sam Martin of Richville, NY.

David, Gordon D. - Gordon D. David, 49, of East Avenue, Newark, died unexpectedly on December 3, 1998 at Via Health of Wayne - Newark. Interment in Fairville Cemetery. He was born the son of Nelson and Ida Mae Morgan David, April 19, 1949 in Henderson, New York. He was employed at Finger Lakes Auto Mart in Farmington. He is survived by his wife Edna Stewart; sons, Gordon David Jr., Eugene Valastro and Duane David; daughters, Kristen Valastro and her husband Edward Robinson, April David and Domanique David; seven grandchildren; brothers, Pat (Esther) David and Bill David; sisters, Julie David, Betty (Henry) Prince and Alice Prince; nieces and nephews.

Rumsey, Marion W. - Marion W. Rumsey, 92, formerly of North Main Street, Newark, died Monday, December 7, 1998 at Via-Health of Wayne, Sodus. Mrs. Rumsey was born May 8, 1906 to Robert and Ida Chapman Wells, in Clifton Springs. She had retired from the Newark Developmental Center. Interment at the Pioneer Cemetery in Manchester. She is survived by her sister Ruth Baker of Canandaigua, a niece, and many cousins, as well as special friends Carlton (Pat) Timerson of Newark and Betty Smith of Phelps. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy Rumsey, on January 23, 1985.

Walters, Ethel (Wunder) - Ethel (Wunder) Walters, 79, of Bradenton, FL, died on Friday, November 30, 1998. A life-long resident of Wayne County, Ethel lived in Williamson for 53 years.Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Dr. Harold B. Walters; son, David (Susan) Walters of Walworth and daughter, Diane (David) VanLare of Marion; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Smith of Sodus, Geoffery Walters of Broomfield, CO, Andrew VanLare of Rochester and Laura (James) Eggleston of Schenectady; great-grandson, Jacob Smith; sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Rose Wunder of Lyons, John and Norma Walters of Newark; a niece and nephew; many friends and special neighbors.

DeJohn, Virginia A. - Virginia A. DeJohn, 70, of Madison Street, Lyons, died November 24, 1998 at Rochester General Hospital. Virginia was born April 19, 1928 in Lyons, a daughter of Peter and Josephine DeSain Marro. She was employed at the Wayne County Department of Social Services for 19 years, and was a member of St. Michael's Church in Lyons. Interment interment at Elmwood Cemetery.Virginia is survived by her husband of 51 years, Anthony Sr.; son, Anthony (Janice) DeJohn, Jr. of New Jersey; daughter, Debora (Christopher) Barry of Newark; six grandchildren, Ryan, Keenan, Trenton, Darrin Barry, Nicholas and Danielle DeJohn; three sisters, Mary Pettrone of Rochester, Tina Bradfield of Irondequoit, and Cecelia Cassavino of Newark; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and aunt, Helen (Lena) DeVito of Newark. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

Burm, Pauline E. - Pauline E. Burm, of Newark, 73, died Tuesday, November 24, 1998 at the DeMay Living Center. Pauline was born the daughter of Oscar and Grace Young, September 6, 1925 in Clifton Springs. She retired from Seneca foods in Marion. Pauline was a devoted parishioner of St Michael's Church. Interment East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Joseph R. Burm of Port Gibson; son and daughter-in-law Joseph H. and Doris Burm of Newark; grandchildren, Kevin and Amy; sister Esther Blondell of CA; many nieces and nephews. Her son Christopher Burm predeceased Pauline in 1989.

Miller, Donald R. - Donald R. Miller, age 52, of Palmyra, died Friday, November 27, 1998. interment Palmyra Cemetery.He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Esther R.; sons, Donald R., Jr. of Newark, Brian who is in the Armed Services; step-daughter, Deborrah (Wayne) Mamroe of Macedon; four grandsons, Desmin, Jack, Frank and Malachi; granddaughter, Tessa; three great-grandsons, Malachi, Jr., Bradley and Phoenix; brother, Denny (Del) Miller of Palmyra; sister, Helen; half-sister, Debra (Walt) Lawson of Palmyra.

VanParys, John P. - John P. VanParys, age 85, of Port Gibson died Saturday, November 28, 1998. Interment at East Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Fay) Gallagher of Port Orange, FL; granddaughter, Lisa Bedette of Phelps; sister, Mildred Scherbyn of helps.

Stone, Margaret R. - Margaret R. Stone, formerly of Newark, died Thursday, November 26, 1998, at the Williamsport, PA, hospital. Mrs. Stone was born August 26, 1925, in Williamsport, PA, a daughter of Albert and Elnora Rightmire Holliday. Her husband, Frederick Stone, died in 1989. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. She is survived by twin sons, Chad and Jeff Stone; three grandchildren, one greatgrandchild, two sisters and one brother. Mrs. Stone was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.

VandeViver, Peter J. - Peter J. VandeViver, 73, of Newark, died November 28, 1998. Mr. VandeViver was a veteran of WWII and a retired printer, who had worked for Baker-Britt Company in Newark. Private interment, Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville. He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis (Lagoner) VandeViver; daughter, Dawn (Carl) Levickas of Palmyra; grandson, Matt; sister, Mary VanDeViver of Newark; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary VandeViver, Dean and Mary Lagoner; nieces and nephews.

Cobb, Charles E. - Charles E. Cobb, 91, of West Melbourne, Florida, died on October 21, 1998. He was born January 1, 1907, in Rochester, the son of Charles and Jennie (Lannon) Cobb. He was a graduate of Newark High School, Class of 1923. Upon enlisting in the Marine Corps, Charles played football for four years on Marine teams at Parris Island and Quantico. He attended North Carolina State University, becoming captain of his football team and attaining All-American status at the tackle position. He was a 37-year member of the New York State Police, retiring in 1966 with the rank of lieutenant. Cobb was a descendant of pioneer settlers of Ontario County, Elisha Warren and Ann Johnson Cobb. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary (Goheen) Cobb, of West Melbourne; sons, Thomas Cobb of Bear Mountain, NY and Charles E. Cobb Jr. of Cobleskill; and a daughter-in-law, Tracy G. Cobb of Cobleskill.

Huber and Rebbecca Mottler, June 10, 1982 in Okinawa, Japan. She was a Regents student at Newark High School. Danielle also attended modeling school in Pittsford. Danielle is survived by her mother Rebbecca and fiance John Smith; father Kevin E. (Penny) Huber; sisters, Amy, Brandy and Heather Huber; sister, Kelcey Edwards; brother, Kevin N. Harrington, Anna M. - Anna M. Harrington, 77, of Norton Street, Newark, died Monday, November 30, 1998, at ViaHealth of Wayne. Anna was born in Clyde, on Nov. 8, 1921, the daughter of Phillip and Betina Caprilla Pacelli. She had lived in Lyons for 53 years, and in Newark for nine years. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sarah (Frederick) Mays of Newark, and Mrs. Rose (George) Schuldt of Lyons; son, Arthur Jr. of Waterloo; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Landa of Philadelphia, PA; special companion, Howard Bowman of Newark; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Arthur, in 1973; daughter, Josephine in 1998; and grandson Frederick Mays, Jr. in 1997.

VanCaeseele, Dorothy M. - Dorothy M. VanCaeseele, 94, formerly of Rose Drive, Newark, died Sunday, November 22, 1998 at the Newark Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. VanCaeseele was born the daughter of Johannes F. and Louise M. Cauwels DeRoo on July 7, 1904 in the Town of Arcadia. She worked for Bloomer Bros. for many years. She and her husband retired as custodians from St. Michael's Church and school in 1972. Interment at Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her nieces, Louise (Clifford) Galusha and Virginia Baker, both of Newark; nephew, Walter (JoAnn) VanCaeseele of Shortsville. She was predeceased by her husband, Rene VanCaeseele in July of 1983.

Purrington, James 'Sweet Pea' - James "Sweet Pea" Purrington, 64, of Old Lyons Road, died Thursday, November 19, 1998 at his home. James was born in Wilson, NC, Nov. 2, 1934, a son of James and Fannie Gill Purrington. He had worked at Seneca Foods in Newark and for Conrail. He had lived in the area for many years. Grant, John W. - John W. Grant, 42, of Washington Street, Newark, died on November 11, 1998, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. John was born in Rochester, October 19, 1956, son of James and Helen Pogel Grant. He had lived in Oswego, Rochester and Newark. Fagner, Katherine J. - Katherine J. Fagner, 83, of Marion and Palmyra, died on November 13, 1998. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery. She was born on July 21, 1915 in Manchester to John and Suzanna Boerman Jansen. She was retired from Garlock. She belonged to the Palmyra Moose and was a life member of the Wayne Co. Bowling Association. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest. Survivors include three sons, Ernest (Mary Ann) Fagner of Palmyra, Gerald D. Wilson, Earl S. - Earl S. Wilson, of Palmyra, 86, died on November 13, 1998. He was a WWII Veteran, a retired salesman for the Gulf Oil Company and a member of the Church of Christ, Newark. Dyson, Lucille M. - Lucille M. Dyson, 82, of South Main Street, Newark, died on November 16, 1998, at the DeMay Living Center. Lucille was born in Newark Jan. 5, 1916, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Synesael Wiebeld. In her earlier years she had worked in the nursery for C.H. Stuart Company. She was a member of St. Michael's Church and she served as coordinator, chairman, and fund representative for the Fresh Air Fund. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Lucille is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Mary) Miner of Honeoye, and Mrs. Peter (Barbara) Dyson-Arnitz of Kato; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; two sisters, Madeline Collins of Newark, and Shirley Moriarty of Greece. Prutzman, Earl D. "Gus" - Earl D. Prutzman, 86, of Charlotte St., Newark, died November 5, 1998 at the Canandaigua Veterans Hospital. Mr. Prutzman was born Sept. 25, 1912 in Lewisburg, PA, the son of George and Eva Moury Prutzman. He had worked at the V.A. Hospital in Canandaigua, the Newark Developmental Center, and retired from the Newark Post Office in 1973, where he had been a postal clerk for 25 years. He was a member of the Retired Federal Employee Association, and the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Association. Gus was also a member of the August Mauer Post American Legion, and a life member of the Arcadia Memorial Post V.F.W. During World War II, he was a medical corpsman with the Navy and was attached to the Marine Corps during the Normandy invasion. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Thelma (Gillard) Prutzman; a sister, Betty (John) Shawcross of Camillus; and several nieces and nephews. Gus was predeceased by a brother, John Prutzman; and sisters, Miriam Trowbridge, Theresa Brown, and Jane Pulver.

Orbaker, Sarah E. - Sarah E. Orbaker, 81, of Mobile Parkway, Newark, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mrs. Orbaker was born in Newark on April 25, 1917. She retired from Seneca Foods in Marion. She had lived in Lincoln, Neb., in her earlier years; in Newark for 15 years; and in Marion for 25 years. She is survived by a son, Ken of Newark; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis, in 1982. Interment Riverview Cemetery, Clifton Springs.

Goodman, Phyllis M. - Phyllis M. Goodman, 90, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mrs. Goodman was born March 28, 1908 in Plainfield, New Jersey, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Kolb. She had worked for several years as the cafeteria manager in the East Palmyra School. Phyllis was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. She was a member and Past Matron of the Amitie Chapter #473, Order of Eastern Star. She is survived by a son Robert (Lynn) of Newark; four daughters, Phyllis (Richard) Phelan of Germantown, MD, Beverly (Harry) Eigenberg of Naperville, IL, Vivian (James) DenDecker of Sodus Point and Judy (Richard) Stillson of Naples, FL; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Howard Kolb of Rochester, a sister, Doris Shaw of Fort Myers, FL, and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Robert M. Goodman, Feb. 9, 1993. Interment in Whitney Cemetery, Seneca Castle.

Durgan, Donnie E. - Donnie E. Durgan, 21, died on November 6, 1998, in a car accident. Donnie was a 1996 graduate of Newark High School, where he played football, lacrosse and wrestled. He was the Section 5 Class A Champion at the 177 lb. weight class in 1995; this championship was his 100th high school wrestling win. Donnie received an Associates Degree from Finger Lakes Community College in 1997 and was in his junior year at Cortland State College. He was a physical education major and continued to play lacrosse at both FLCC and Cortland. He was also a member of the Newark Elks Lodge. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his mother and father, Joan and Earl Durgan of Port Gibson; brother, Raymond Durgan of Walworth; sisters, Sondra Durgan and Sherry Durgan, both of Newark; maternal grandparents, Chester Beers of Schroon Lake and Renee Dolfinger of Poughkeepsie; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Torbitt, Timothy W. - Timothy W. Torbitt, 41, of Canal Street, Palmyra, died November 5, 1998, in a car accident in Palmyra. Tim was born March 20, 1957, in Clifton Springs to Helen Armstrong and Robert Torbitt. Tim had been working at Fold-Pak in Newark for the past nine years. He was a member of the Palmyra Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his wife, Lisa (Griffin) Torbitt of Palmyra; two sons, Nathan and Troy of Newark; his father, Robert of Newark; his mother, Helen Armstrong of Wolcott; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Torbitt of Oswego; three brothers, Terry of Newark, Mark of Syracuse, and Rob of Daytona Beach, FL; two sisters, Sue Joslyn of Newark and Wendy Torbitt of Raleigh, NC; 12 nieces and nephews, and one great uncle.

Nugent, James E. - James E. Nugent, 68, of Pearl Street, Newark, died November 9, 1998 at ViaHealth of Wayne. Jim was born in Buffalo on November 19, 1929, the son of John Francis and Harriett (Sherman) Nugent. He retired as a sales representative for J.L. Hammett Company of Lyons with 27 years of service. He was a member, elder, and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church and a member of the Lyons Elks Lodge 869. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1947 to 1950. Survivors include Marianne Nugent; one daughter, Nancy (Brian) Johnson; one brother, John; three grandsons. Jim was predeceased by a son, Jack, in 1998; and brothers, Robert in 1991 and Richard. Interment in Marion Cemetery.

Merriam, Ray Byron - Ray Byron Merriam of Tamarac, Florida and Douglas Island in the Thousand Island area, died October 19, 1998 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida after a brief illness. He was born in Newark, NY, April 9, 1915, the son of Albert and Bessie (Allen) Merriam. They lived for many years at 418 Church St., Newark. Ray graduated with honors from Newark High School, class of 1933; received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Cornell University; and Ph.D. from New York City College. For many years he taught in high schools in various cities in New York. He served in the United States Air Force for three years during WWII in the US and overseas. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed horse racing, pool and traveled extensively after retiring from teaching. Surviving are his brother, Howard of Anaheim, CA; niece, Marcia L. Camp of Twentynine Palms, CA and her daughters, Jennifer and Diana. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Donald and Paul, wife Beatrice (Burns) and son, William.

Hart, Marinus (Hadley) - Marinus (Hadley) Hart of Marion, 85, died on October 28, 1998. He was a retired carpenter. A Memorial Service was held at the East Palmyra Christian Church. Survived by his wife, Hendrika Hart; his daughter, Adriana (Alan) Hadley, Marion; two grandchildren, Shane and Jeremy; his family in the Netherlands; and nieces and a nephew.

Denisi, Maria C. - Maria C. Denisi of Newark, age 77, died Oct. 29, 1998. She was born on June 14, 1921 in Calabria, Italy. She was the daughter of Elia and Maria Cannella Marzio. Years ago, Maria worked for Seneca Foods in Newark. She is survived by three sons, Joseph (Angie) of Woodbury Heights, NJ; Pasquale (Anna) and Vincent (Nancy) of Newark; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Elia in 1971 and her husband, Giovanni in 1993.

Darling, George E. - George E. Darling, 86, died on October 31, 1998, at Clifton Springs Hospital. George was born April 6, 1912, in Chapin, the son of Harry and Bessie Darling, and has lived in the area all of his life. He was retired from Herendeen Brothers Hardware in Shortsville. George enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He spent summers at his camp in Eagle Bay. Interment in Pioneer Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lillian; sons, Father William Darling, rector of St. Salome's Church in Rochester, Gordon Darling of Florida and Randy Darling of Newark; daughters, Sandra (Donald) Lyons of Shortsville, Donna Reiff of Canandaigua, Katrina (Bryan) Galbraith of Clifton Springs and Kimberly Zeger of Newark; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; foster children; three brothers, Kenneth (Lucy) Darling of Seneca Castle, Clarence Darling of Penn Yan, Alwyne (June) Darling of Orleans; sister, Ann (Charles) Burgess of Clifton Springs; several nieces and nephews. Bartucca, Maria - Maria Bartucca, 79, of Vienna St., Newark, died Wednesday, November 4, 1998, at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark campus. Mrs. Bartucca was born October 27, 1919 in Curinga, Italy, the daughter of Andrew and Rose Bartucca. She came to this country in July of 1955. She had worked for many years in the sewing room for Hallagan Manufacturing, and was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. Interment in the East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter, Maria (Domenico) Fruci of Newark; three sons, Paul (Nancy) of Waterloo, Andrew (Elvira) and Domenic (Antoinette), both of Newark; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul and Domenico Bartucca of Italy; three sisters, Anna Mozgowiec of Florida, Rose Trovato and Catarina, both of Italy. She is survived by two daughters, Sondra VanValKenburg and Lida (Dan) Fremouw of Lyons; two sons, Frank (Dawn) and James of Lyons; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Ireland of Wolcott, Marian Higbee of Lyons; four brothers, Fred and George Hunt of Lyons, William Hunt of Wolcott, John Hunt of Clyde; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, in 1980.

Farnsworth, E. Wallace "Wally" - E. Wallace "Wally" Farnsworth, 93, died Thursday, October 22, 1998 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mr. Farnsworth was born June 21, 1905, in Marion, the son of Samuel J. and Della Jarvis Farnsworth. He had worked at Bloomer Bros. at one time and retired in 1970 from Garlock Manufacturing, where he worked in the high pressure manufacturing department for many years. Wally, for over 30 years, was a berry farmer in Port Gibson. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark, Newark Masonic Lodge 83, and the Amitie Chapter Order of Eastern Star; interment in East Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anna (Burke) Farnsworth; a son, Wallace E. (Bonnie) of Clifton Springs; two daughters. Lois (Frederick) Ludwig and Alma (Edward) O'Connor both of Port Gibson, seven grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren, a brother, Daniel Farnsworth of Manchester and several nieces and nephews.

Meyer, Lt. Gen. Richard D. - Lt. Gen. Richard D. Meyer, 87, formerly of Newark, died August 12, 1998, in Ft. Belvair, Virginia. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Meyer (manager of the New York State Electric & Gas Co. in Newark for many years). He graduated from Newark High School in 1928 and from West Point in 1933. He served in three wars: World War II, serving in the Philippines. He received the Legion of Merit for outstanding service in the Transportation Corps in the Pacific Ocean. In 1952-1953 he served in the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. He also served in Vietnam. In 1967, he retired as a Lieutenant General after 34 years of service. Interment was at West Point. He is survived by his wife; six children; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Buragina, Mary - Mary Buragina, 101, of Siegrist St., Newark, died Tuesday, October 27, 1998 in ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mrs. Buragina was born in Italy, July 25, 1897. She came to this country in 1919. She had worked at Hershey Candy in Pennsylvania before moving to the Newark area. For several years, she worked in various canning factories. Mrs. Buragina retired from Bond Clothing where she had been a seamstress. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church; interment in the Newark Cemetery. She is survived by four daughters: Portia (James) Paone, Ann (Carl) Conklin, Jeanette (Paul) Staples, and Angeline (John) Yaniri, all of Newark; son, James Buragina of Syracuse; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter, in 1960.

Buyck, Elsie - Elsie Buyck, 95, of Sodus died October 28, 1998. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, James. She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (Leo) Fletcher of Sodus; son, Elmer (Loraine) Buyck of Lyons; two grandsons, James (Karen) Buyck and Jeffery (Lisa) Fletcher, both of Sodus; two great-grandsons, Jason and Andrew Buyck; sister, Dorothy Hendricks of Marion; two sisters-in-law, Josephine Adriaansen of Newark and Cornelia (Kate) Buyck of Marion; brother-in-law, Frank (Irene) Buyck, Marion.

Starr, Beatrice M. - Beatrice M. Starr, 94, died Friday, October 16, 1998 at Genesis ElderCare Pleasant View Center, Concord, New Hampshire. She was born in New York State and lived there all her life until going to live with her daughter, Barbara Ryerson, several years ago. Interment at Rest Haven Cemetery in Phelps. Mrs. Starr is survived by her daughter Barbara and son-in-law, Richard P. Ryerson of Hopkinton, NH; four grandchildren, Starr (Grover) Daniels of Lincoln, MA, Richard (Michelle) Ryerson of Lebanon, NH, Ann and (Chris) Garrett of Concord, NH., and Tom (Christine) Ryerson of Pembroke, NH; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband E. Paul Starr who died in 1972.

Hendricks, Viola Bramer - Viola Bramer Hendricks of Lyons, age 89, died on September 25, 1998. Interment in the Elmwood Cemetery, Rt. 14N, Lyons.

Wilcox, Benjamin F. Jr. (PapaBnjamin F. Wilcox Jr. of Sodus, 89, died on October 15, 1998 in Blossom View Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn (residing at DeMay Living Center in Newark); five daughters, Dolores (Kenneth) Kraemer of Ontario, Nancy Amo of Penfield, Kathleen (Roger) Mastowski of Rochester, Bette (Forbes) Willett of N. Fort Myers, FL, Barbara Verge of Sodus; also, Diane (Thomas) Lachlusa, Beverly (Angelo) Mancine and Christine (James) Aquilina; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Bette Pfannkuchen of Bath.

Schwartz, Earl Henry - Earl Henry Schwartz, 68, died October 12, 1998 at Rochester General Hospital. A resident of Newark, Mr. Schwartz was born September 2, 1930 in Newark and was the son of Earl C. and Elizabeth Schwartz. He attended Newark Jr. and Senior High School. Served in the US Army in Korea. He worked at Fold-Pak Corp. of Newark until his retirement. Mr Schwartz was a long-time member of the Newark First Methodist Church. He is survived by a brother Mel of Danbury, CT, sister Jacqueline of FL, Aunt Hazel Smith of Newark and several cousins. Honoring his wishes, there was a cremation.

Wheeler, Leon R. - Leon R. Wheeler, 63, of Newark, died on October 19, 1998, at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mr. Wheeler was born July 16, 1935 in Geneva, the son of LeRoy and Pauline Wheeler. He retired from the Canandaigua Veterans Hospital in 1976, where he was a nursing assistant. Leon graduated from Community College of the Finger Lakes in 1980 with a degree in Human Resources. He was a member and past master of the Newark Masonic Lodge #83 and had been District Deputy in the Wayne District in 1991-92 and 1996-97. Leon was a member of the August Mauer Post American Legion and served in the U.S. Naval Reserves in Rochester. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Phelps. Leon is survived by his wife of 40 years, Esther (Lashway) Wheeler; daughter, Sheri Wheeler of Spencer, NY and son, Christopher (Jocelyn) Wheeler of Anderson, SC; three grandchildren; sister, Barbara Sher of Phoenix, AZ; nieces, nephews, cousins.

Lucieer, Shirley - Shirley V. Lucieer of Marion, 65, died October 20, 1998. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter, Erin Kearns, Webster; son, Scott (Victoria) Lucieer, Rochester; grandchildren, Nicole Lucieer, Jessica (Jerome) Gay, Nolan and Elizabeth Kearns, Marshall and Christopher Bertram; great-grandchildren, Kyle Lucieer and Damian Gay; many dear friends and relatives.

Withey, Alvira - Alvira D. Withey of Marion, 68, died on October 19, 1998. Interment in Marion Cemetery. Schultz, Roger - Roger Edwin Schultz, 87, died on October 20, 1998 at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark campus. Mr. Schultz was born June 11, 1911 in New Windsor, NY, the son of Floyd and Georgia Fitzgerald Schultz. He had worked for many years as a pump operator for the Elizabethtown Water Company in Elizabethtown, NJ, retiring in 1976. In his retirement, he moved to Marco Island, Florida. He came to the Newark area three years ago and was a member of the St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Interment in St. Mark's Memorial Garden. He is survived by Beatrice, his wife of 64 years; a son and daughter-in-law Ed and Mickey Schultz of Dundee (formerly of Newark); grandchildren, Erica (Michael) McKinney and Griffin (Amy) Schultz; and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Sean McKinney.

Greule, Florence A. - Florence Alice Greule, 87, of Newark, died on October 8, 1998 at the DeMay Living Center. Mrs. Greule was the daughter of George and Minna Beal Young, born June 17, 1911 in East Palmyra. She was a graduate of Palmyra High School and Clifton Springs School of Nursing. She retired from Newark-Wayne Community Hospital in 1981, where she worked as the obstetrical nursing supervisor. Mrs. Greule was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Marion), Richards Chapter. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Newark-Arcadia Volunteer Ambulance and a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald F. Greule; daughters, Joan and Jane Greule of Newark; daughter-in-law Kathleen Greule of Willard; grandchildren, Donald E. (Yvonne) Greule of Willard, and Bethann (Frank) Selice of Rochester; great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Katlin and Donald R. Greule. She was predeceased by her son Donald R. Greule in 1992.

Forsay, Eva - Eva Forsay, 84, of Lyons died Monday, October 12, 1998. Friends called at the Norton Funeral Home in Sodus. Interment in Baptist Rural Cemetery.She is survived by two sisters, Beulah Adams of Palmyra and Beatrice Voley of Lyons; sister-in-law, Cora Pentycofe of Port Gibson, nieces and nephews.

Bannatyne, James Allan - James Allen Bannatyne, Sr., 75, of E. Miller Street, Newark died on October 12, 1998 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mr. Bannatyne was born in Clyde on February 26, 1923, son of James and Alice Crandell Bannatyne. He had worked at Rus-Pak in Lyons and at Seneca Foods in Newark. He was a member of August Mauer Post 286 of the American Legion in Newark and a former member of the American Legion in Lyons. Mr. Bannatyne was an Army veteran, having served in World War II. He had lived in Lyons for 35 years and also in Clyde and Newark. Interment in East Newark Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Survivors include his beloved companion of 25 years, Bertha Stell; four daughters, Deanne Giljam of Tennessee, Della Cooper and Dorothy Baker of Lyons, Deborah Young of Clyde; son, James Jr. of Port Gibson; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; close friends, Nancy VanDenBeckens, Betty Hunter and Arthur Stell.

Wigent, Jeff - Jeff Wigent, 37, formerly of Alton, died October 13, 1998 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Furman, Harris R. Sr. - Harris R. Furman Sr., 95, of Clifton Springs, died September 30, 1998 at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home. He was born to Roy and Mabel Harris Furman, February 14, 1903 in Penfield. He retired from Gleason Corp. in Rochester. Mr. Furman was a member of the Elder Statesmen Club. Interment in the Macedon Cemetery. Mr. Furman is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Harris R. and Mary Ann Furman Jr., of Cape Vincent; grandsons, Peter and William Furman and two great-grandchildren April and Benjamin; a very special friend, Dorothy Johnson of Kansas. His wife, Lillian predeceased Mr. Furman.

Dippel, Perry - Perry Dippel, 88, of Walworth, died October 3, 1998 at home. He is survived by Sue, his wife of 60 years; sons, Jeff (Ellen), Don (Jeanette), Ken (Beverly) and Tim (Sheila); grandchildren; sister, Marcia Dippel.

Pentycofe, Lloyd L. Jr. - Lloyd L. Pentycofe, Jr., 68, of West Sherman Ave., died October 2, 1998 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Mr. Pentycofe was born in Sodus on June 15, 1930. The son of Lloyd and Hester McDonald Pentycofe Sr., he worked in maintenance at Hanover Division of Sarah Coventry Company. He was a member of the American War Dads, Chapter 29, of the V.F.W. of Newark. He played the accordion and harmonica. He had a great love for his family and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Interment in Huron Evergreen Cemetery, Wolcott. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Doris (Clingerman) Pentycofe; two sons, Richard (Valari) and Ron Button; three daughters, Sharon Pentycofe (Robin); Joyce Pentycofe (Ann); and Katherine Pentycofe (Larene); four grandchildren, Richard (Kathy), Staci, Steve and Becky; one great-grandchild, Tessa Marie; five brothers, Floyd, Robert, Irving, Lester and Louis; three sisters, Mary Jane VerHeecke, Juanita Vervalin and Louise Pentycofe; nieces and nephews.

Carrigan, Marcella "Sally" M. - Marcella "Sally" M. Carrigan, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, at DeMay Living Center. Sally was born in Waukegan, IL, Jan. 11, 1923, daughter of Albert and Bertha Kenneke Shorman. She had worked for the Rome and Newark State Schools. She was a member of the Newark American Legion Auxiliary 286. Interment in Fairville Cemetery. Sally is survived by two daughters, Kathleen DeCann of Port Gibson and Debbie Florack of Marion; one son, Jack Jr. of Newark, 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren: nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" in September, 1996; a daughter, Terri Orbaker in 1981; a granddaughter, Renee Carrigan in 1985; and a great-grandchild, Preston DeCann Gonzalez in 1996.

Koury, John Joseph Sr. - John Joseph Koury Sr., 70, of Cleveland Avenue, Niagara Falls died Sunday, October 4, 1998 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Koury was born August 21, 1928 in Niagara Falls, the son of the late Joseph and Ellen (Knowles) Koury. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a sergeant, and was in charge of entertainment at Sampson Air Force Base. Prior to the war he was in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He graduated from Rider College in Trenton, New Jersey in 1950. He was an expert in the field of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning which he taught for twelve years at Niagara Orleans Boces. He was a volunteer umpire for Little League for over 30 years. He umpired in many City Tournaments. He was a member of the Crescent Temple Shrine in Trenton, NJ. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Town of Lewiston. He is survived by his wife, Concetta (Dedomenico) Koury, formerly of Newark, NY; a son, John J. Koury Jr. of Niagara Falls, a step sister, Evelyn Grandin, Niagara Falls, and two grandsons.

Boerman, Susan - Susan Boerman of Marion, 46, died October 3, 1998 as a result of an automobile accident. She was a Medical Secretary at Williamson Medical Center. She is survived by her husband, Dale; daughter, Heather Lehr of East Penfield, two step-children, Jennifer Stevens of Marion and Andrew Boerman of Lansing, NY; mother, Patricia (Peter) Densmore; step-mother Elsie Agne; four sisters, Shirley (William) O'Leary, Barbara (Russell) Kuelling, Dianah Murphy, Darlene (Mike) Keller; two brothers, David (Betsy) Agne, Dennis (Kathy) Agne; two step-brothers, Donald Agne, Daniel (Robin) Agne; aunts, uncles, cousins and step-grandchildren.

Tomes, Letta B. - Letta Bornheimer Tomes, 80, of Palmyra died Monday, October 5, 1998 at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home. Mrs. Tomes was born the daughter of Albert and Jinnive Smith Bornheimer, December 26, 1917 in Clifton Springs. She retired from Garlock in Palmyra. Mrs. Tomes was a member of the Rebekah and the United Methodist Church of Palmyra. Interment in the Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan. Mrs. Tomes is survived by her sons, Thomas (Rose) Tomes of Macedon, Charles (Zelma) Tomes, Sr. of Clifton Springs and Richard (Roberta) Tomes of Palmyra; daughter, Linda (Larry) DeClerck of Newark; granddaughters Dawn Davis and Tracy Tomes; grandsons, Mark (Annette) Tomes and Charles (Pam) Tomes Jr.; four great-granddaughters; sister, Iva Kent of Palmyra and nephew Ronald Kent. Mrs. Tomes was predeceased by her husband Albert Tomes in 1992.

DeMarco, Joseph Michael - Joseph Michael DeMarco, 72, of Stuart Avenue, Newark, died October 6, 1998 in Nunda, at the home of his son. Mr. DeMarco was born January 23, 1926 in Newark, the son of Jospeh A. and Angeline Colacino DeMarco. Joe was a retired carpenter and a long-time member of Local #85 of the Carpenter Union in Rochester. He was a member of St. Michael's Church. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Merchant Marines. Interment in the Newark Cemetery. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Thomas C. DeMarco Sr. in 1995. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Virginia (Celso) DeMarco; his son, Joseph N. (Jeni) of Nunda, NY and daughter Nancy M. (Herman) Lamare of Monmouth, Maine; four granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Helen Truini and Martha (Owen) Huober of Newark; a brother, Frank of Rochester and several nieces and nephews.

Linehan, George J. - George J. Linehan, 75, of Elmwood Ave., Newark, died Monday, October 5, 1998 at Strong Memorial Hospital as a result of injuries sustained when he was struck be an automobile. Mr. Linehan was born April 16, 1923, in Geneva, the son of Emmett and Anna Gannon Linehan. He had worked in Newark and Geneva offices as a senior clerk for New York State Electric & Gas Corporation for 43 years, retiring in 1988. George was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. He was a long time member of the Newark Elks Lodge, where he had been secretary for the last 10 years. George served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps in England and France during World War 11. He was a member of August Mauer Post 286 of the American Legion. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Geneva. Mr. Linehan is survived by his wife, Frances (D'Amico) Linehan; two sons, Ronald (Yolanda) Linehan of McLean, VA and Mark (Nancy) Linehan of Tallahassee, FL.; seven stepchildren: Richard (Nancy) Carlson of Geneva, Sharon (Peter) Stockman of Geneva, Donald Bowers of Arlington, VA, Debra (Michael) Ceravolo of Newark, Douglas (Mary) Bowers of Littleton, CO, David Bowers of Wichita Falls, TX and Daniel Bowers of Newark; four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Marshall of Newark; several nieces and nephews. Corteville, Virginia I. (Chandler) - Virginia I. (Chandler) Corteville, 71, died at her home in Williamson on October 6, 1998. She was a retiree from BOCES of Flint, a member of the East Williamson Free Methodist Church and a faithful volunteer to Myers Community Hospital, Sodus, Newark Wayne Community Hospital and Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years, Gordon W. Brigham, Marlea I. - Marlea I. Brigham, 86, died suddenly December 31, 1998. She moved from the Palmyra-Macedon area to Honeoye Falls where she resided at the home of her daughter, Helen. Mrs. Brigham was active in Eureka Chapter #209 for over 50 years and served as Wayne District Deputy Grand Matron and Commissioner of Appeals for the State of New York. She also was a member of the Macedon First Baptist Church and served as president of the Fairport Baptist Home Women's Service Board. She was active in Senior Citizens and the First Presbyterian Church of Honeoye Falls. She received the honor of Senior Citizen of the Year in 1997. She was an RN and certified SNT and served in her husband's practice, and also at F.F.Thompson Hospital and with the Newark School District for a period of over 10 years before retirement. Marlea was predeceased by her husband, Dr. R. Carl Brigham, a physician in Macedon for over 40 years. He died in 1983. She is survived by three daughters, Sharlene (Howard) Jordan of Palmyra, Marilyn (Carl) Chase of Canisteo, and Helen Payne (William) of Honeoye Falls; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Morrison, Irene K. - Irene K. Morrison, 89, of Palmyra, died Dec. 30, 1998. Interment in the Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter Shirley (David) Miller; two grandchildren, Michelle & Meredith Miller; nephews, Ralph (Helen) Kommer, Eugene (Nancy) DeNagel; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Wahl, Timothy John - Timothy John Wahl, 35, of Palmyra, formerly of Sodus, died suddenly on Dec. 30, 1998. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. He is survived by son, Jeremy of Palmyra; his mother, Hazel Wahl of Sodus; two sisters, Susan (Ed) Phillips of Newark and Carolyn Wahl of Sodus; brother, David (Marcia) of Sodus; sister-in-law, Margaret Wahl of Wolcott; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Floyd R. Wahl and brother, Bruce Wahl.

Delmastro, Angelo - Angelo Delmastro, 74, of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, formerly of Newark, died Dec. 30, 1998 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Angelo was born in Italy on Oct. 23, 1924, the son of John and Theresa Toti Delmastro. He was a science teacher in Toronto, where he also taught biology and chemistry for over 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the V.F.W. of Palmyra and the Italian American Lodge in Geneva. For many years he played clarinet in a band. Interment Newark Cemetery. He is survived by two sisters, Elvia Costello of Webster and Antoinette Brigidi of Buffalo; three nieces, Lucille Brewster, Carol (Walt) Zehder and Rita (Glenn) Creel; five grandnieces and nephews and several cousins.

Mertz, Clara L. - Clara L. Mertz died December 30, 1998 at age 102 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Clara was an avid gardener and loved to bake and cook. She was a member of the Western Presbyterian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Ontario-Wayne Co. Retired Teachers Assoc., Palmyra and Macedon Sr. Citizens. She is survived by her sister, Martha A. Mertz; nephews, Clifford Mertz, Donald (Beverly) Mertz, both of Palmyra; niece, Mrs. Hubert Siler of Newark.

Marsteiner, Mary - Mary Marsteiner, 81, of Hudson, FL, formerly of Lyons, died Dec. 30, 1998, at Regional Medical Center at Bayonet Point, Florida. Mrs. Marsteiner was born in Sodus. She retired and moved to Florida 20 years ago with her husband, Irving. She was retired from Sarah Coventry in Newark, where she was a jewelry production employee. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson and past president of the Hudson Community Club. She is survived by her husband, Irving; three sons, James of Smyrna, TN, Edward of Lyons, and Ronald of Sodus; daughter, Donna Sergisson of Newark; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Theorides, Stella - Stella Theodorides died on December 29, 1998. She and husband Harry owned the Marion Candy Kitchen from 1915 to 1956. Entombment at White Haven. She was predeceased by her husband; survived by her nephew, James Cooros of Fairport; niece, Madeline Hines of SC; great-nieces, great-nephews and friends.
