Grahl, Darwin Robert - Darwin Robert Grahl, P.E., age 66, of Hiawassee, Georgia, died June 26, 1999. Darwin was born July 10, 1932, in Wyandotte, MI, a son of Oscar and Mabel Solo Grahl. He lived in Hiawassee for nine years, moving there from Longwood, FL. He was a member of the Chatuge Gun Club, the Academy of Model Aeronautics, the Board of Professional Engineers, and a life member of the A.S.H.R.A.E. He was also a member of various sportsman's clubs. Grahl graduated from Roosevelt High School, Wyandotte, MI, in 1950, and Wayne State University in 1955 with an engineering degree. He was with Parker-Hannifin Corp. for 24 years. From 1970 to 1981 he was at the Lyons facility and from 1981 to 1990 with the TXV facility in Longwood. Upon retirement he continued professional engineering consulting. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Grahl; daughter, Debra Wade of Condon, MT; sons, Brad Grahl of Pompano Beach, FL, Scott Grahl of Winter Park, FL, Keith Grahl of Ft. Smith, AR, Bryan Grahl of Hiawassee, GA; sister, Diana Grundman of Jerome, MI; eight grandchildren; mother-in-law, Irene Walker of Hiawassee, GA; brother-in-law, Raymond Walker of Southgate, MI; first cousins, Ila Williams of Gibraltar, MI, and Henry Grahl of Memphis, TN.

Harris, Shirley R. - Shirley R. Harris, 61, died June 23, 1999 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Mrs. Harris lived in Fairville with her husband James, until his death in 1992. She then moved to Missouri to care for her father. While in Fairville, Mrs. Harris was a member of the Newark Church of Christ, was a foster parent, and volunteer in Lincoln and Perkins schools. She also attended FLCC in Canandaigua and loved to read. She was a wonderful wife to Jim for 37 years and a loving mother to their daughters, Annis (Robert) DeCook) of Newark, Tami (Les) Sprague of Lyons and Valari (Richard) Pentycofe of Holiday, FL. She is survived by her father John Mobbs of Bell City, MO; three brothers, Paul (Sally) Mobbs of Newark, Ted (Barbara) Mobbs of Greenwood, FL and Will (Joan) Mobbs also of Florida; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.She was predeceased by her husband James, brother J.C., and her mother Lottie. Interment in Missouri.

VanGorder, Gary - Gary VanGorder, 64, of Wolcott, died June 22, 1999 at Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Diane; 3 sons, Lynn (Alice) VanGorder of Wolcott, Chris VanGorder of Maryland and Randy VanGorder of Fairport; 3 brothers, Dean (Irene) VanGorder, Wayne (Ruth) VanGorder all of Newark and Eric (Kate) VanGorder of Sunny Vale California; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Richard) Cole of Port Gibson; several nieces, nephews and friends; 2 beloved dogs, Misty and Velvet. Mr. VanGorder was born November 26, 1934 in Newark, the son of Harl and Elizabeth (De Ritter) VanGorder. Gary worked in the retail grocery sales for 44 years, was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was an avid gardener.

Bohrer, Thomas - Thomas E. Bohrer, 46, of Lock Berlin, died June 23, 1999 at his home following a long illness. Interment in Lock Berlin Cemetery.Mr. Bohrer was born Aug. 29, 1952, in Lyons, the son of Marvin and Dorothy Porter Bohrer. He had been employed by the Wayne County Highway Department for the past 27 years as a truck driver. He married the former Sandra Langdon on Aug. 21, 1976. He was an avid sports enthusiast.He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Lock Berlin; one daughter, Ashley, at home; his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Bohrer of Clyde; brother, Randy Bohrer of Newark; stepsister, Fay Marriott of Clyde; mother-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Langdon of Lock Berlin; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Marvin Bohrer, in 1966.

Pieters, Alta - Alta Pieters, of Palmyra, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at age 97. Alta is survived by her children, Lenora (Ernest) Facer of Lyons, Virginia (Case) Geldorf of Palmyra, Robert (Marie) Pieters of Penfield, Richard (Marian) Pieters of Newark; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins; devoted neighbors Joan and Lloyd Durtey.Alta was predeceased by her husband Abraham in 1956; grandson Stephen Geldort in 1965. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery.

Luss, "Linny Lou" - Lynn Nicole "Linny Lou" Luss, age 3, of Marbletown Road, died June 24, 1999 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Lynn Nicole was born Oct. 12, 1995, in Newark, the daughter of John and Esther Cruikshank Luss. Linny Lou had attended the Head Start Program at Roosevelt School in Newark. She is survived by her parents, John and Esther Luss; two sisters, Autumn Hoyt and Katie Luss; brother, Robert Luss; paternal grandmother Frances Luss, all of Newark; maternal grandfather, Edward Cruikshank of Portland, OR; aunts, uncles and cousins; and many special friends.

D'Aprile, Marie - Marie (Mary) D'Aprile, 87, formerly of Sodus, died June 25, 1999 in Park Ridge Hospital. Mrs. D'Aprile was predeceased by her husband, Jerome in 1975. She is survived by her nephew, Abram (Evelyn) DeBadts Jr. of Sodus; 3 nieces, Marie (John) Dority of Ravena, NY, Mrs. Eleanor Goulette and Mrs. Gail Caine, both of Sodus; several grandnieces and grandnephews. Interment, Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Martin, Vivian C. - Vivian Charlotte Martin, 88, formerly of Newark, died June 27, 1991 in Lake Worth, Florida. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua. Mrs. Martin was born to Charles E. and Caroline Gardner Emerson, February 7, 1911 in Canandaigua. She and her husband worked for Newark Developmental Center as custodians at the Spring Farms Colony. They moved to Florida after their retirement in 1967. She was a long-time member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Newark. Mrs. Martin is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law Charles and Grace Emerson of Newark, and Calvin and Diana Emerson of Rochester; also nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Albert J. Martin in 1989, her sister Helen Callagy and brother Kenneth Emerson.

Rogers, Philip H. - Philip H. Rogers, Jr., 78, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and also of Fort Myers, Florida, died May 31, 1999, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.He was born June 6, 1920, in Somerville, MA, to Eva M. (Campbell) and Philip H. Rogers Sr. He graduated from the University of Rochester. In 1943, Philip married Jean Curren in Rochester. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre from 1943 until 1946. Following his honorable discharge, he moved to Newark. After retirement, he moved to Fort Myers in 1977. He married Carey B. Kell on August 24, 1984 at Madeline Island, Wisconsin. They resided in Chippewa Falls and in Fort Myers. Survivors include his wife, Carey Kell-Rogers of Chippewa Falls; daughter, Carol Acquista of Union Springs, NY; and grandson, Nicholas Acquista of Newark.

Furguson, Addie L. - Addie L. Furguson, of Sodus, 98, formerly of N. Centenary Rd., Sodus, died in Newark Manor Nursing Home on June 18, 1999. Mrs. Furguson was predeceased by her husband, Arlington and sons, Rollin, Gordon and Robert. She is survived by 4 daughters, Irene Eichinger and Betty Sessler both of Zephyrhills, FL, Alice (Richard) Vohs of Sumter SC and Judith (Dan) Schulz of Clyde; son, John (Mildred) of Marion; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Miriam Engelhardt of Canandaigua; 2 brothers, Carl Miner of Zephyrhills and Clifford Miner of AZ; nieces and nephews.

Raplee, Robert E. Sr. - Robert E. Raplee, Sr. (Big Oak), 68, of Margaretta Road, Sodus Point, died on June 18, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Boyington) Raplee; 6 children, Deborah (Rick) Wagner of Lyons, Robert E. Jr. of Sodus Point, Daniel L. De Fabio, Margaret A. - Margaret A. De Fabio, of Prospect Street, Newark, died June 22, 1999 at Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. Interment Newark Cemetery. Margaret was born Oct. 11, 1918, the daughter of Gregory and Mary Ross Colacino. She had worked for the Montgomery Ward Company in Newark for 24 years. She retired from the Newark Developmental Center in 1980, from the business office. She was a charter member of St. Michael Sodality, the Catholic Daughters of Clyde, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, of which she was president for 11 years. She was also a member of St. Michael Church and Legion of Mary, Rosary & Altar Society, a member of the Scared Heart Mission Society, the Civil Service Retirees Employees Association, the Women's Civic Club, where she was manager of Montgomery Ward's Catalog Department. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Elaine (James) Quinn of Sodus Point; son, Richard (JoAnn) of Wayne, NJ; four grandchildren, Brendan, Shawn, Ryan and Gregory; sister, Theresa Colacino and brother, Albert Colacino, both of Newark; nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John on April 7, 1995; and her brothers, Charles, Joseph and Thomas Colacino.

Cill, William J. - William J. Cill, 80, of North Main Street, Newark, died June 12, 1999, at Via-Health of Wayne Newark Campus. Mr. Cill was born June 17, 1918, in Lyons, the son of Albert and Pauline Morganti Cill. He had worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp. prior to joining the U.S. Army in Nov. 1941. During World War II, he was part of the D-Day landing in Normandy, serving through the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he worked in the steel mills in Pennsylvania for a few years. He returned to this region, where he worked as a printer for C. H. Stuart, Inc. for 29 years, retiring in 1980. Bill was a communicant of St. Michael Church and a member of the Arcadia Memorial Post 2883 VFW. Interment in Fairville Cemetery. He is survived by his daughters Joyce Street of Canandaigua, Mary Ann Cill of Newark, Barbara (Michael) VanLaeken of Perinton and Susan Cill of Lyons; six grandchildren; two brothers, Vincent Cill and Victor Calviera of Newark; three sisters, Ann Frederick of Newark, Josephine Capanna of Fairport and Connie Karekos of Newark; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn, in 1992; a son, James Douglas in 1994; and a brother, John Cill in 1995.

DeVito, Frank J. Jr. - Frank J. DeVito, Jr., 90, of West Union Street, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at the DeMay Living Center, Newark.Mr. DeVito was born Sept. 7, 1908, in Lyons, the son of Frank and Angeline Cipriano DeVito, Sr. He was an iron worker and welder for Local 33 of Rochester, and had worked on the railroad. He was a Navy veteran, serving in the Seabee's. He was also a member of St. Michael Church and the American Legion in Lyons. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. He is survived by daughter, Mrs. John (Shirley) Ruggieri of Geneva; a grandson, John Ruggieri Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; brother, John DeVito of Clyde; sister, Minnie Scibona of Seneca Falls; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Clarabell, on March 11, 1995.

Lindstrom, Alfred B. Sr. - Alfred B. Lindstrom Sr., 78, of Gastonia, NC, formerly of Newark, died June 2, 1999. Mr. Lindstrom was born July 10, 1920, the son of the late Alfred Eugene and Edith Combs Lindstrom of Phelps. He was a retiree of Garlocks and an Army Veteran of WWII. He and his wife enjoyed traveling during retirement and visited most of the 50 states. Hiking was also a favorite past time. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Priebe Lindstrom; sons, Alfred B. (Dianne) Lindstrom Jr. of Palmyra, Eric G. Lindstrom of Mesa, AZ; daughters, Johanna (Bernhard) Bach of Boulder, CO, Pamela (William) McCall of Black Mountain, NC; grandchildren, Bernhard, Kirk, Erich, Kristy, Kerry, Chad, Arron, Lance; great-grandchildren, Sarah, Audrey, Haley and Gretchen; sisters, Edith (Anthony) Leone of Charlotte, NC and Evelyn Adams of Big Pine Key, FL; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Lindstrom was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Lloyd, Lytle, Charles and Edward.

Sweaton, Gladys P. - Gladys P. Sweaton, 96, died on Saturday, June 12, 1999, at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Gladys was born June 8, 1903, in Owls Head, the daughter of Harvey adn Ellen Benware Lester. In her earlier years she was a waitress and worked at the Sodus Fruit Farms. She had lived on Arrow Bend Drive in Williamson. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary 2883. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her son, Walter (Grace) Safford of Newark; a stepson, Harley Sweaton of Palmyra; brothers-in-law, Leland Palmer of Alaska, Roger (Dorothy) Palmer of Newark; sisters-in-law, Viola Smeatin of Palmyra, Shirley Hinman of Palmyra, Alice Clontz of Pennsylvania and Laura Lester of Malone; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands, Frank Safford and Leonard Sweaton.

Petrus, Donald - Donald Petrus, 70, died Wednesday (May 12, 1999), at Winter Haven Hospital in Florida. Mr. Petrus was a scientist who was dedicated to preserving the quality of the Florida citrus industry. Born in Newark, NY, on May 16, 1928, he went to Winter Haven from Winter Park in 1960. He attended Rollins College in Winter Park, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1965 in general studies. He then received his master's degree of science at Stetson University in Deland on June 2, 1968. He was a research scientist for the Florida Department of Citrus, where he developed the petris technique for testing orange juice purity. He retired in 1990. He was an Army veteran and member of the Roman Catholic Church. He and wife Patricia enjoyed flying in his antique airplane. He had obtained his pilot's license 30 years ago. For his 65th birthday, he did 13 rolls in the air. After his health began to decline, he and his wife donated the plane to the Swift Museum in Athens, Tennessee. Petrus also had a passion for his yellow 1957 Thunderbird and riding his Harley Davidson.He is survived by his wife, stepsons, stepdaughters and step-grandchildren.

Michielsen, Johanna - Johanna V. (VanKouwenberg) Michielsen, 79, of Wolcott, died June 13, 1999.A member of the Alton United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Oasis, Wolcott Order of Eastern Star - Draper Chapter. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She is survived by daughters, Mary Lou Buck of Ontario, Rebecca (David) Bay of Palmyra; sons, Thomas (Linda) Michielsen of Spencerport, Stephen (Marion) Michielsen of Lawrenceville, GA, Robert (Jill) Michielsen of Cohocton, Bruce (Marie) Michielsen of Collierville, TN; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Tellier of Williamson, Ida (Howard) Boise of Marion; sisters-in-law, Margaret Michielsen of Williamson, Caroline Elliott of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Peter Michielsen.

Masters, Louis Jay - Louis Jay Masters, 32, husband of  former Newark resident, Karla Chandler Masters, and son-in-law of Karl and Anna Chandler of Newark, died May 7, 1999 at his home in Arlington, Virginia. Masters, a suburban Boston native, graduated with honors from the Syracuse University School of Architecture in 1989. He was recently named Associate Vice Principal at the Washington, D.C. office of RTKL Associates, an international architecture firm. Masters' most recent project, the Embassy of Brunei, is currently under construction in Washington, D.C. His portfolio includes design work in the corporate, university, hotel, government and retail sectors. Masters is survived by his parents, Korina and Bernard Masters, of Lakeland, Florida and Waterville Valley, New Hampshire; sister, Beverly Skaggs, of Nashua, New Hampshire; niece and nephew, Sara and Rory Skaggs, of Nashua, New Hampshire; brother-in-law, Fredric Chandler, of Washington, D.C. (formerly of Newark); and sister-in-law, Jennifer Jaquin, of Washington, D.C. (formerly of Newark).

Bedette, William R."KF2NL" - William R. Bedette, 54, of Bedette Road, Clifton Springs, died June 14, 1999, at Clifton Springs Hospital after a long illness. Interment, Palmyra Cemetery. Bill was born Oct. 22, 1944 in Clifton Springs, the son of Leonard and Cora Combs Bedette. The funeral home proudly flies the U.S. Army flag in honor of his service to our county during the 1960s. He was a member of the Lyons VFW Post 5092 and a past member of the Amateur Radio Club and the Racing Pigeon Club. He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Frohwein Bedette; sons, Brian Bedette of Clifton Springs and Scott (Nancy) Bedette of Williamson; daughters, Veronica Bedette of Clifton Springs, Paula (Fred) Blauvelt of Williamson and Brenda (Wanye) Bortle of Fairport; four grandchildren, Tiffany, Nicholas and Ashton and Vincent; father, Leonard Bedette of Canandaigua; brothers, Robert (Jan) Bedette and Leslie Bedette of Clifton Springs; sister, Carol Freyn of Palmyra; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Cora in 1955.

Hills, Reta L. - Reta L. Hills, of Rose Drive, Newark, died June 16, 1999 at Via Health of Wayne-Newark Campus. Mrs. Hills was born the daughter of George and Elise Jones Hackett in Taunton, Massachusetts. She worked for several years in the offices at Newark Developmental Center. Mrs. Hills was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Raymond) Bruzan of Illinois; grandchildren, Kevin (Michelle) Bruzan of Georgia, Jennifer (David) Beuan of Missouri; great-grandson, Ryan Bruzan; brothers, Raymond (Lorraine) Hackett of Massachusetts and Sherwood (Frances) Hackett of Maryland; sisters, Evelyn Nickerson of Massachusetts and Marjorie Altman of Florida; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Leander Hills in 1957, son Bradley Hills, and great-grandson Anthony Bruzan.

Pearson, Pearl M. - Pearl M. Pearson, 98, of Auburn/Newark, died June 2, 1999 at the Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center in Auburn, after a long illness. Mrs. Pearson was born to Henry and Minnie Bennett, on November 19, 1900 in Aurora, NY. She and her husband owned and operated the Pearson Stand in Owasco, before owning Pearson Grocery in Auburn. Interment, Sand Beach Lakeview Cemetery in Fleming. She is survived by her son, Paul Pearson of Newark; grandchildren, Cythina Blankenburg of Clifton Springs, Richard Pearson of Newark, and Kathy Marble of Georgia; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; close friends, Tom Patterson and Dale Ross. Husband Isaac Pearson predeceased Mrs. Pearson on April 18, 1981.

Drew, James L. - James L. Drew, of Marion, 89, died June 2, 1999 at the Hill Haven Nursing Home. Interment, at Irondequoit Cemetery. He is survived by 9 children, James E. (Sigrid) Drew of Williamson, Elizabeth M. (Charles) Miller of Marion, Alfred L. (Marie) Drew of Rochester, Ellen L. (James) Caswell of Penfield, Carlton E. (Rose) Drew of Hornell, Harvey G. Cauwels, Irene S. - Irene S. Cauwels, formerly of Newark, 94, died May 16, 1999 in Florida. Mrs. Cauwels was born in Newark. She moved to Inglis, FL in 1976. She was a volunteer for the Hospice of Citrus County, where she was Volunteer of the Year in 1992. She was a member of the Crystal River United Methodist Church. Interment at Newark Cemetery. Mrs. Cauwels is survived by her son, Richard S. Cauwels of Lyons, daughter, Stephanie Smith of Crystal River; companion and good friend, Stanley Anderson of Inglis; nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Mary (Morris) DePaepe of Macedon; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cauwels was predeceased by her husband Alphonsus "Al" Cauwels on January 20, 1990; son, Howard F. Cauwels in 1960; two brothers Vincent and Edward Syneseal.

Miner, Gerald F. (Kenneth Rouse) - Gerald F. Miner (Kenneth Rouse), of Wolcott, 75, died June 6, 1999 at the Newark Campus of Via Health. Interment at North Wolcott Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of 54 years; 3 sons, Gregory (Terry) of Waterloo, Gerald (Lucille) of Norfolk, VA and Michael (Karen) of Wolcott; 4 daughters, Kathy Pena of Newark, Jackie (Dodge) Emigh, Donna Miner and Patricia (Russ) Freer, all of Wolcott; 30 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Clifford (Harriet) of AZ, Carl of FL; 2 sisters, Addie Furguson of Newark and Mariam Englehardt of FL; nieces and nephews. McGarigle, Patrick James - Patrick James McGarigle, 39, of Webster and Newark, died June 5, 1999. He was born Dec. 28, 1959 in Rochester, to John and Carolyn Jackson McGarigle. He graduated from Newark High School and served in the Army from 1980-84; he was stationed in Germany. He was a guitarist in local bands. He worked as a security specialist for Ames stores. He is survived by his wife, Maureen (Drew); 6 children, Brett, Michelle, Tacy, Sam, Sarah, Shannon, at home; his parents, John and Carolyn of Wolcott; sisters and brother, Kathy Miller, Wilmington, NY, Jeanne (Fred) Kepler of Marion, Seana (Mark) Freling of Lyons, Kim (Mike) Miller, Wendy (Jack) Carrigan, Jackie (Jim) Mazur, Renee (Ed) DeWolf, all of Newark and Jim (Melani) Hoyt of Red Creek; nieces and nephews.

Kline, William E. - William E. Kline, 71, of Newark, died Monday, May 31, 1999, while touring in St. Petersburg, Russia. Mr. Kline was born in Lyons on Dec. 8, 1927, son of Albert and Mae Bremer Kline. He was a foreman for Garlock, Inc. where he had worked for 26 years until 1990. Bill was a member of the Newark Elks Lodge and the Deluge Hose Company of the Newark Fire Department. He had served with the Army at the close of World War II. Interment in the East Newark Cemetery.He is survived by his children: Deborah (Terry) Burgess, Steven (Tina) Kline, Dennis (Kathy) Kline, Karen (Mark) Urban, all of Newark; Jeff Kline of Lyons; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Anne McMullen of Lyons; a sister-in-law, Patricia Murphy of Newark; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Joan, in 1997; and a brother, Fred Kline, in 1996.

Harmon, April M. - April M. Harmon, 25, of West Sherman Avenue, died Friday, June 4, 1999. April was born Feb. 7, 1974, in San Francisco, daughter of Timothy and Deborah Hallock Harmon. She was a cashier at Chase Pitkin in Newark, and worked at the Wayne ARC in Newark, and McDonald's in Lyons and Newark. She was a member of the Palmyra Assembly of God. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her companion, Jerald I. Hughson of Newark; her father, Timothy Harmon of Newark; her mother, Deborah Cassidy of Lyons; three sisters, Coline and Elizabeth Harmon and Audrey Hults, all of Newark; brother, Benjamin Harmon of Newark; maternal grandparents, Jim and Fran Hallock of Henrietta, and Donald J. Beryle of Webster; niece, Caitlyn Fish of Newark; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Hughson, Jasmine Kiara - Jasmine Kiara Hughson, infant daughter of April Harmon and Jerald I. Hughson, died Friday, June 4, 1999. Her mother, April Harmon, also died Friday, June 4, 1999. Bloom, Julia Fratarcangelo - Julia Fratarcangelo Bloom, 66, of Newark and Batavia, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at the United Memorial Hospital in Batavia. Julia was born April 6, 1913 in Falls River, Massachusetts. For many years she had been a home health care provider in Newark. She was a member of St. Michael's Church in Newark and a volunteer at the Wayne County Unit of the American Cancer Society offices. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Roger Bloom on Sept. 26, 1994.

Hurley, John R. - John R. Hurley, 83, of Rt. 88 South, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Mr. Hurley was born in Seneca Falls on March 21, 1916, the son of William H. and Theresa McBride Hurley. He had worked in the offices of the Newark Developmental Center for 26 years, retiring in 1979. John was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, Newark. He was a tutor with the Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County for over 15 years. He had also been a member of the CSEA and the Newark Council, Knight of Columbus. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Phelps. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gertrude (VanDeusen) Hurley; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Karen T. Hurley of Littleton, CO; and two granddaughters, Meghan and Maura Hurley of Littleton, CO, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph Hurley in 1983.

Haskins, Paul Frederick - Paul Frederick Haskins, 84, of Marion/West Winfield, died on January 4, 1999. Survivors include his son, Robert F. Hale, Iva Snyder - Mrs. Iva Snyder Hale of Charlotte, NC, died April 19, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center. Mrs. Hale was born June 6, 1914, in Marion, daughter of the late Charles and Rose Beale. She was precdeceased by a daughter, Kay Currie of Boston, NY. After retiring from Calspan Corporation of Cheektowaga, NY, in 1966, Mrs. Hale moved to Florida for a time before moving back to Hamburg, NY, and then to Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Hale is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Robert) Daigler of Charlotte; son-in-law, Donald Currie, Sr., of Boston, NY; two stepdaughters, Denise Sherer and Dawn Hale, both of California; five grandchildren, Michael (Gail) Daigler of Claremont, NC, Michelle Daigler of Charlotte, Donald (Sue) Currie, Jr. of Ashford, NY, Eric Currie of Boston, NY, and Timothy Blackwell of California; and six great-grandchildren, Brian and Natalie Daigler of Claremont, and Jessie, Sarah, Chelsey and Alycia Currie of Ashford, NY.

Springett, Nancy - Nancy Springett died June 5, 1999 in her home at age 64, losing a courageous battle with cancer. She was a dedicated third grade teacher with the Newark Central School District for 24 years. She was married to her devoted and loving husband, William, for 45 years and was the mother of eight children: Cristine (Michael W.) Kraham of Newark, Steven Scott (Mary Jane) of Webster, Wendy (Eugene A.) McGinnis of Newark, Jeffrey A. (Mary Beth) of Newark, Gregory J. (Kathryn) of Newark, Peter R. (Vaun E. Austin) of Newark, Colleen (Mark E. Stevens) of Rochester, Chadwick J. (April) of Newark. Nancy also loved and was very proud of her 22 grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. She was born in Avon, NY on July 3, 1934, the daughter of Leon T. and Eva (House) Iler. Nancy entered SUNY Geneseo after the birth of her seventh child and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Mrs. Springett enjoyed traveling with her husband and being outdoors. Her unquenchable thirst for knowledge led her to experience the history and beauty of every state in the U.S. except Hawaii. With an open heart, she always welcomed family and friends into her home as though each day were a special occasion. She especially loved family gatherings. With a passion for decorating and gardening, she will be remembered as each new season brings its bounty. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Colvin, Marjorie L. - Marjorie L. Colvin, 94, formerly of Wolcott, died May 28, 1999 at the Newark ViaHealth. Mrs. Colvin was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Wolcott, and a Past District Matron and a member of Draper Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star for 50 years. She had served as School Tax Collector for the North Rose-Wolcott School District, as the Welfare Officer for the Town of Butler. She moved to the Village of Wolcott in 1985 and to Newark in 1996. Interment in Butler Center Cemetery. Mrs. Colvin was predeceased by her husband George in 1985. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis (Donald) Frink of Randolph; 4 sons, Donald (Lynne) of Savannah, Gerald (Euleta) of Red Creek, Lee of Kewadis, MI, and Neil (Diane) Of Eden; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Mildred Simmons of Pompano Beach, FL; sisters-in-law, Idabelle Colvin of Wolcott and Doris Colvin of Sodus; nieces and nephews.

Knapp, Harold P. 'Red' - Harold P. Knapp, 71, of Lyons, died May 26, 1999, at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Red was born July 10, 1927, in Lyons, son of Henry and Frances Curtis Knapp. A life-long area resident, he was employed and retired from the former Newark Developmental Center as a maintenance person. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margaret (Holland) Knapp; son, Richard (Adelle) Wadsworth of Lyons; two daughters, Kathy (Bob) Eaker of Dunkirk, NY and Linda (John) Marko of Lyons; eight grandchildren, Sara and Rickie Wadsworth, Jesse and Valerie Miller, Eddie and Matthew Eaker, and Nicholas and Ryan Marko; three great-grandchildren, Felicia, Ariana and Alea; two sisters, Norine Bates of Clyde and Barbara Chilson of Marion. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Louise Minkler.

Winter, Mary L. - Mary L. Winter, 73, Rose Garden Apts., Newark, formerly of Clyde, died May 31, 1999. Interment in Rose Cemetery. Raymer, Iva - Iva Raymer, formerly of Barclay Road in Sodus, age 82, died in the DeMay Living Center in Newark on Monday, May 31, 1999. Interment in Baptist Rural Cemetery. She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Greening of North Rose and Bonita Moser of Slatington, PA; two sons, Lloyd Raymer Jr. of Sanford, FL and Neil Raymer of Virginia Beach, VA; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her mother, Genevieve Hessman in January of 1999; and her daughter, Isabelle in 1965.

Barcomb, Calvin J. - Calvin J. Barcomb, 68, of the Wolf Pond Road, Mountain View, NY, died June 2, 1999, at his home. He was under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country. He was born in a lumber camp in Santa Clara, NY, February 8, 1931, the son of the late Millard and Ettie LaPier Barcomb. Mr. Barcomb attended elementary school in Owl's Head. He graduated from Franklin Academy in Malone in 1948. He then attended and graduated from the New York State Ranger School in Wanakena, which is part of Syracuse University in 1951. Mr. Barcomb served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. On January 22, 1955, he was united in marriage to the former Grace E. Larry at Notre Dame Church in Malone, by the late Rev. Cyril Rapin. He lived for a few years in Owl's Head, and then moved to Newark, where he resided until his retirement in 1993. As a licensed surveyor, Mr. Barcomb worked for Harnish and Lookup in Newark for many years. He then co-owned and operated a land surveying business in Wayne County with Norman Gay. During his many years in Newark, Mr. Barcomb was active in several community organizations. He was a life member of the American Legion and a member or the V.F.W. In 1992, he served as Commander of the August Mauer Post 286 American Legion in Newark. He was a member of the N.Y.S. Association of Professional Land Surveyors and an active member of St. Michael's Church in Newark and St. Joseph's Church in Owl's Head. He was well known both in Newark and Mountain View as a long distance runner. He completed twenty five marathons. He ran six Boston Marathons. He ran his last marathon, the Vermont City Marathon in Burlington, VT in May of 1998. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Grace, one son, David and his fiancee Paula Hausen of Warren, OH, one daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Peter Bump of Sodus; six grandchildren, Amanda and Adam Bump, and Jessica and Daniel Young all of Sodus, and Christopher and Anthony Barcomb of Warren, OH; aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Theodore Barcomb. Interment in St. Helen's Cemetery in Chasm Falls, NY.

Shane, Rosalie - Rosalie Shane of Arkansas, known for her dock-and-dine restaurant, Rosalie's, in Hot Springs, died of heart failure on May 2, 1999 at age 88. The daughter of Italian immigrants living in Lyons, Mrs. Shane was born on Aug. 18, 1910. Her parents, Angelina and Frank Mancuso, had six younger children. Mrs. Shane, whose father played violin, first performed in front of an audience at age 5 with the legendary magician Harry Houdini and then went on to sing for local radio stations. From her first marriage to Charles Gibson, Mrs. Shane had her first son, Doug. But Gibson died before Doug was born, leaving her to raise the child alone. She later moved to New York City where she would meet and marry Dr. Milton Shane. The couple had two daughters, Joyce and Sissy, before the couple separated in 1953 and she moved to Hot Springs. Mrs. Shane is survived by her son Doug Mason; two daughters, Joyce (Peter) Besserer and Sissy (Brian) Brown; five grandchildren, Tony Mason, Dawn Marie Ensley, Angela Ellisop, Lisa McGinnis, and Sara Bessserer; seven great-grandchildren, Tony Mason, Rhianna Mason, Lindsey Ensley, Erica Ensley, Maddie Fontaine, and Brady and Tyler Weatherford; two brothers, Francis and Eugene Mason; and four sisters, Aurora Sinisi, Delores Wagemaker, Marian Bohusz and Joan Perring.

Henkel, Ashley Sue - Ashley Sue Henkel, 13, of Trout Run, Newark, died Monday, May 24, 1999 at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Hospital. Ashley was born the daughter of Craig and Amy Alvarado Henkel, March 16, 1986 in Newark. She had attended Roosevelt Children Center for a few years before attending Newark Middle School. She was a member of St. Michael's Church, the Greater Rochester Spina Bifida Association and the Studio of Performing Arts. Ashley received a red ribbon for second place in bowling at the Special Olympics. Interment in the East Newark Cemetery. Ashley is survived by her parents, sister Alyssa, paternal grandparents, Melvin and Dorothy Henkel of Newark; maternal grandparents, Tony and Peggy Alvarado of Newark; maternal great-grandfather, Louis Santiago of Newark; uncles, Jeff Henkel, Joey (Michelle) Alvarado, and AJ (Missy) Alvarado, all of Newark; special cousins, Landon and Alayna; special girlfriend Silly Sue and special "niece" McKenzie.

Land, Edward J. Jr. - Edward James Land Jr., 67, of Clyde, died May 20, 1999, at his home. He was born, Oct. 30, 1931, in Pittsford, the son of Edward J. and Edna O'Reily. He was a truck driver for Lake Beverage Corp. in East Rochester. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and trapping. Interment will be in the East Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Betty Williams Land; sons, Edward T. (Karen) Land of Lyons, William (Debbie) Land of Penfield and Jason Land of Newark; daughter, Sheila Anderson of Ontario; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; stepson, John Smith of Newark; stepdaughter, Mary Smith of Newark; six stepgrandchildren; sisters, Dorothy (John) Frey of Macedon, Dolores (Bert) Ross of Florida and Marion (Albert) Hutchinson of Fairport; mother-in-law, Margaret Williams of Newark; and many nieces and nephews.

Merkley, Dann H. - Dann H. Merkley, 51, of Sweed Road in Newark died Thursday, May 20, 1999, at his home. He was born July 19, 1947, in Palmyra, the son of Fred and Hazel Beek Merkley. He was a cutter pressman for Fold-Pak for 30 years. Merkley served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was a member of the Seeley B. Parish Post 457 American Legion in Phelps. Interment in N. Farmington Friends Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hess Merkley; three daughters, Mary (Dean) Gleeson of Newark, Kathy Merkley and Robin Merkley, both of Florida; four stepchildren, Jonas (Nicole) Myhill of TN, Anthony Caster of Newark, Jennifer (Arismendy) Santana of Newark, and Michael Caster of Newark; seven grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Barbara) Merkley of Palmyra; two sisters, Hazel Ann (Jerry) Smith and Sandy (George) Hill of Geneva; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Fred Merkley in 1998.

Payne, Sharon - Sharon Payne, 47, of Clifton Springs, died Thursday, May 20, 1999 at Thompson Hospital. Fellows, Clifton E. - Clifton E. Fellows, 93, of Newark, died Saturday, May 22, 1999 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Clifton was born in Rockford, IL on March 8, 1906, son of Samuel and Rebecca Ellis Fellows. He was a graduate of Waterloo High School class of 1925. He was also a graduate of Ontario Business Institute in 1929 and worked for the former Lyons Republican newspaper. He raised beef cattle west of Clyde for 40 years before he retired at the age of 70. He was a 50-year member of the Eureka Grange of Lyons and the oldest member of Junius Presbyterian Church. Interment in the Elmwood Cemetery in Lyons. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Helen Brandt Fellows; sister, Ruby Smith of Junius; stepson, David Bennett of Palmyra; step-daughter, Donna Ferm of Savannah, GA; granddaughter, Libby Miller of Williamson; great-granddaughter, Mickayla Miller. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy, in 1979 and his brothers, Lawrence and Paul.

Wood, Challie M. Sr. - Challie M. Wood, Sr., 78, of Marion, died Friday, May 21, 1999 at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Penn Yan. Mr. Wood was born in Greensboro, NC, on February 8, 1921. He was a self-employed tree worker in North Carolina. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Donna Travers, of Marion; two sons, Allen and John Wood of North Carolina; several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

DeMeyers, Elizabeth - Elizabeth DeMeyers, 78, of Sodus/Newark, died in Newark Manor Nursing Home on May 25, 1999. Interment, Sodus Rural Cemetery. Mrs. DeMeyers was predeceased by her husband, Abram in 1996. Mrs. Buttaccio was born in Lyons, June 15, 1908, the daughter of James and Rose DeSain. She retired from the C.H. Stuart Co. of Newark, and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Grace was born March 17, 1908, in Marion, the daughter of Simeon and Cora Carey Merton. Interment in the Marion Cemetery. She is survived by her two daughters, Ann (Fred) Van Cassele of Marion, and Ruth Brown of Palmyra; two sons, Roger (Bessie) Clark of Palmyra, and Stanley (Gail) Clark of Newark; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her husband, Earl H. Clark, who died Oct. 2, 1984; and six brothers and sisters.

Spangenberg, Dorothy - Dorothy Spangenberg, 82, of Marion, died on May 12, 1999. Interment at East Palmyra Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank. Buckley, George "Bud" Alfred - George "Bud" Alfred Buckley died peacefully on May 16, 1999. He was born on February 18, 1923, to George Sr. and Marion Buckley in Kansas City, Missouri. He married Patricia J. Pullar on June 7, 1647, in Beverly, IL. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) after serving in World War II as an Army Lieutenant. His professional career included a lifetime of direct-sales management positions with various companies, beginning with Electrolux in Chicago and culminating as president of Caroline Emmons, a national jewelry company headquartered in Newark - a division of C.H. Stuart. Bud enjoyed most in life his musky-fishing days in Eagle River, WI, and spending relaxing summers with his friends and family at the summer cottage on Lake Eau Claire in Augusta, WI.He is survived by his children Buck Buckley (Laurel) of Evanston, IL, Suzi Wisniewski (Chet) of Lockport, IL, Marne Buckley of Augusta, WI, and Skip Buckley of Streamwood, IL; his grandchildren, Chad Murphy of Blue Island, IL, Sophie Buckley of Evanston, IL; his sisters, Marge West of Evanston, IL, and Betty (Bud) Sundstrom of Palos Park, IL; and, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Van Parys, Madeline - Madeline Van Parys, 89, died Friday, May 14, 1999 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Madeline was born Oct. 12, 1909, in Clifton Springs, the daughter of Jacobus and Sidonie Paes Yonckheere. She was a communicant of St. Michael Church. She was an avid pinochle player and had belonged to numerous pinochle clubs for well over 50 years. Interment in the Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon (John) Griswold of Lock Berlin and Eileen (Curtis) Clicquennoi of Ellicott City, MD; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur J. Van Parys, who died May 25, 1974.

Palmatier, Blanche E. - Blanche E. Palmatier, 99, died Sunday, May 16, 1999 at Penn Yan Manor. Blanche was born June 1, 1899, to Loren and Addie Kern Eddy. She was retired from the Cafeteria Staff of Middlesex Valley Central School. She was a member of the Penn Yan United Methodist Church and a Life Member of Robson-Savage American Legion Post Auxiliary. She is survived by her son, Donald (Nancy) Palmatier of Newark; grandchildren, Kirk Palmatier of District of Columbia, Durry (Brian) Lincalis of MD, Kern (Mark) Michal of NC; five great-grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Richard; husband, Arlo, brother; Guy Eddy; and sister, Beulah Coogan.

Dedrick, Frances D. - Frances D. Dedrick, 90, formerly of Newark, died Saturday, May 15, 1999 at her home in Mount Dora, FL. Frances was born April 26, 1909 in Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Saul and Julia Davidson. She taught school in Morrisville, Baldwinsville, and Newark before retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Congressional Church of Mt. Dora, FL, The New York State Teachers Association and a former member and past president of the Newark Business and Professional Women's Club. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis V. Dedrick in 1992. She is survived by her son, F. Robert Dedrick, and his wife Elsie of Newark; beloved grandchildren, Stacy and Jonathon; sisters Phyllis Pratt of Port St. Richey, FL, and Walta Bush of Morrisville, NY; nieces and nephews, and many caring friends.

Tack, Eva G. - Eva G. Tack, 86, of South Main St., Newark, died May 20, 1999 at the DeMay Living Center. Mrs. Tack was born in Casa, Arkansas on March 19, 1913, the daughter of James and Nelvina Massey Henry. She was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church and had been a long time member of the Newark Grange. Interment in the Fairville Cemetery.She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Shirley Tack of Marion; two grandchildren, Victoria (Larry) Loucks and Steven (Mary) Tack; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca (Dan) Veenje, Nate (Hollie) Loucks, Andrew Tack and Jason Tack; two great-great grandchildren, Hannah Loucks and Adrian Veenje. She was predeceased by her husband, Leon Tack, on February 3, 1976 and two brothers, J.L. Henry and Harold Henry.

Visser, Bertha - Bertha Visser, 90, of Newark, died May 9, 1999, at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mrs. Visser was born in Newark on February 8, 1909, daughter of Peter and Josephine Manover Goebert. For many years, she had owned and operated the Port Gibson Bar and Grill with her husband Peter, until his death on March 17, 1969. Bertha continued working until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of Park Presbyterian Church in Newark. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Eilene (Jackson) Burm of Newark and Marie (Roger) Rawden of Fullerton, CA; five grandchildren, Jackie Finewood, Jim Burm, Scott Burm, Debbie Eglof and Lynn Rawden; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Beside her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.

Boyette, Charles M. - Charles M. Boyette, 72, of Williamson, died Sunday, May 2, 1999 at Via Health Newark. Mr. Boyette was born the son of John and Minnie Blalock Boyette, December 4, 1926 in Albemarle, NC. He was retired from ARC of Newark, where he was a bus driver. The funeral home proudly flew the Navy flag in honor of his service to our country during World War II. Interment in Albemarle, NC. Mr. Boyette is survived by a brother in Maine and many friends.

Stell, Alice F. - Alice F. Stell, 95, of West Avenue, Newark, died Thursday, May 6, 1999 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mrs. Stell was born June 8, 1903 to Charles and Elizabeth Brown Fowler in Little Falls. She worked for many years at New York Telephone Co. in Newark as a secretary. She attended Skidmore College and was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church, and Eastern Star Amitie Chapter #473 in Newark. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.Mrs. Stell is survived by several great nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband Leon G. Stell in 1981.

Verschage, Kathleen F. - Kathleen F. Verschage, 97, formerly of Mobile Parkway, Newark, died April 30, 1999 at the DeMay Living Center. Mrs. Verschage was born Sept. 16, 1901, in Breskens, Holland, to Abraham and Catharina de Ruijter Fremouw. She was a member of the Arcadia Reformed Church and had worked at C.H. Stuart, Inc. for many years. She volunteered for the Wayne County R.S.V.P. and in the office of the County Unit of the American Cancer Society. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Mrs. George (Elsie) Perkins, of Newark; step-granddaughter, Mrs. Burton (Shirley) Ford of Newark; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William on Sept. 23, 1948.

Matthews, Crystal L. - Crystal L. Matthews, 82, of West Maple Ave., Newark, died May 1, 1999 at ViaHealth of Wayne in Sodus. Mrs. Matthews was born Sept. 15, 1916, in Morehead City, NC, the daughter of Zennie and Sarah Oglesby Merrill. She had been an attendant at the Newark Developmental Center, retiring in 1980. Coleman, Reverend Robert L. Sr. - Reverend Robert L. Coleman Sr., 74, King St., East Williamson, died at his home on May 1, 1999. The Rev. Coleman was a World War II Army Veteran and was the founder of the Beulah Hill Missionary Baptist Church of East Williamson. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. Arnitz, Joseph A. Sr. - Joseph A. Arnitz Sr., 80, of Montezuma Street in Lyons, died May 3, 1999, at his home. Mr. Arnitz was born November 26, 1918 in Clyde, son of Peter and Flora Felella Arnitz. He retired from Lyons Central School with 15 years of service, where he worked in maintenance. He had also worked for Garlock and Ecko Products in Geneva. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion of Lyons and St. Michael's Church in Lyons. Intermentin Elmwood Cemetery with full military rites accorded. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Josephine Rago Arnitz; son, Joseph A. Kline, Edna - Edna Kline, 86, formerly of Newark, died Thursday, April 22, 1999 at the Wayne County Nursing Home, Lyons. Mrs. Kline was born January 9, 1913 in Lyons, the daughter of Sherman and Nora Lake. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newark. She had also belonged to the Newark Elks Auxiliary and the Newark Fire Department Auxiliary. She was the widow of Frederick Kline, who passed away July 20, 1996. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, James (Suzanne) Kline and Duane Kline, both of Newark; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ann McMullin of Lyons; brother-in-law, William Kline of Newark; several nieces and nephews.

Townley, Jennie - Jennie Townley, 89, of Newark, died April 23, 1999, at the Wayne County Nursing Home, Lyons. Jennie was born in Holland on August 7, 1909, the daughter of Peter and Johanna Gueran DeWiselaere. She worked for Witt Blair Photography of Newark and did housekeeping in her earlier years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Schmidt, Carl A. - Carl A. Schmidt, 74, of Highland Ave., Newark, died Monday, April 26, 1999 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Mr. Schmidt was born June 22, 1924 in New York City, the son of Dr. Walter and Beatrice Winter Schmidt. He was an attorney at C.H. Stuart, Inc. in Newark for over 31 years, retiring in 1981. During World War II, he served with the US Marines in the Pacific Theater. Carl attended Syracuse University and graduated from Albany Law School in 1951. Carl was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church and New York State Bar Assoc. He had been active with the Wayne County Antiques Assoc. and the Genesee Country Antique Dealers Assoc. in Rochester. He had belonged to the Newark Lions Club and had served on the board of the Newark Public Library. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia Engleson Schmidt; two daughters, Nancy (Scott) Neill, of Atlanta, GA, Judy (Robert) Miller of Burlington, VT and a son, John (Sharon) Schmidt of Dunstable, MA; five grandchildren, Robyn and Lesley Neill, Reuben and Zachary Miller and Ryan Schmidt; sister, Doris (James) Rush of Pittsburgh, PA; nieces and nephews.

Grant, Helen M. - Helen M. Grant, 90, of Russell, NY, died Tuesday, April 20, 1999, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital in Potsdam. Born February 16, 1909 in Russell, daughter of Ralph and Hazel Eggleston Grant, she graduated from Knox Memorial High School in 1927 and received a degree in history from St. Lawrence University in 1930. She returned to Russell after retiring. Miss Grant was a teacher in Northern New York, Florida, Gowanda and she taught at Roosevelt and Kelley Schools in Newark, retiring in 1971. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Oswegatchie, First United Methodist Church and New York State Retired Teachers Association. Interment in Fairview Cemetery in Edwards. Survivors include a brother, Thomas A. Russell, two nephews and three nieces.

Mozgowiec, Anna - Anna Mozgowiec, 89, Ormond Beach, FL, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Melbourne, FL. She was born in Italy and retired from the NYS Hospital in 1975. She was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Ormond Beach. She was preceeded in death by husband, John in 1996 and daughter, Rose, in March 1999; she is survived by son, John Zarole of NM; daughters, Vay Hannon of Rochester, Mary Kahl of Melbourne, FL; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

VanGee, Irene E. - Irene E. VanGee, 64, of Walworth died April 25, 1999. She was a member of the Macedon Center F.D. Auxiliary. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She is survived by her husband Earnest J. Kerrigan, Charles M. Sr. - Charles M. Kerrigan Sr., 66, of Vienna Street, Newark, died April 27, 1999 at Genesee Hospital, Rochester. Mr. Kerrigan was born in Lynn, Massachusetts on October 26, 1932, the son of Charles W. & Mary Kate Cleary Kerrigan. He retired from the Rochester Psychiatric Hospitalin 1987. He had been a NY State Law Enforcement Security Officer for 31 years. He had also worked at the Newark State School (NDC), and part-time for the Lyons Police Department. He was a member of the Law Enforcement Officers Union, Council #82, the American Legion #286 of Newark and St. Michael's Church. He served in the Air Force and was in Tulley, Greenland in the service. Interment in East Newark Cemetery with military honors accorded at the grave. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary DeSain Kerrigan; sons, James and Charles; his aunt, Lena DeVito, all of Newark; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Russell, Theodore E. - Theodore E. Russell, 62, formerly of Newark, died April 4, 1999. He was a former teacher at St. Michael School in Newark. Interment in Howard Cemetery. He is survived by a sister, Betty Barber of Wayland; and a brother, James Russell of Alabama.

Woolworth, Hilda M. - Hilda M. Walworth, 76, formerly of Newark, died in the Wayne County Nursing Home on January 22, 1999. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. She had worked for Wayne Drugs and in the cafeteria at Newark High School. Interment in St. Francis Cemetery in Phelps. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert P.; two daughters, Roberta (Jim) Dingman of Newark and Karen (Mike) Chase of Idaho; and three grandchildren.

Jacques, John M. - John Mitchell Jacques, 66, of Lyons, died Monday, April 19, 1999. John was born Jan. 7, 1933, in North Rose, son of Gordon and Nathalie Jacques. He retired from Xerox Corp., where he worked in the Research and Engineering Department. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons. The U.S. Army flag was flown at the funeral home in honor of John's service to this country during the Korean conflict. Hoste, Alice H. - Alice H. Hoste, 97, of Clifton Springs, died on Wednesday, April 14, 1999. Alice was born Oct. 16, 1901 in Alton, daughter of Edward and Ina Perkins and lived for many years in Newark before moving to Spa Apartments in 1975. She was also a member of Newark Park Presbyterian Church. Interment in Newark Main Street Cemetery. Hamelinck, Jacob - Jacob Hamelinck, 80, of DeMay Living Center, died April 20, 1999 at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mr. Hamelinck was born September 30, 1918 in Clifton Springs, the son of John and Emma Ritco Hamelinck. He was a self-employed painter, having retired in 1962. He is survived by sister, Bertha Claeys of Newark; three brothers August Hamelinck of Newark, Bernard Hamelinck of Newark, and Thomas Hamelinck of Canandaigua; nieces and nephews. Santelli, Anthony B. Sr. - Anthony B. Santelli, Sr., 83, of Willow Ave., Newark died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at Rochester General Hospital. Anthony was born August 20, 1915 in Seneca Castle, the son of Frank and Theresa (Vitaro) Santelli. He worked for Bloomer Brothers and Jackson & Perkins in his early years as a photographer. He started in the photo business in 1947 in his home and in 1952 opened Santelli Studios in Lyons. He purchased the Barker Tru-Value Hardware in 1972 and in 1974 purchased Fox's News in Lyons. In 1994, the family opened Santelli Studio in Newark. The Santelli family operated a photo route to many businesses in Ontario, Wayne, Oswego and Seneca counties. Mr. Santelli served as president and director of the Lyons Chamber of Commerce for many years. He was honored as Citizen of the Year by the Lyons Chamber of Commerce and honored by the Chamber of 50 years of being in business in the Village of Lyons. He was a past president of the Lyons Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was known for his spaghetti dinners he put on for the Rotary Club. He served on the Selective Service Draft Board and was a member of St. Michael's Church in Newark. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn (Sebastian) Santelli; two sons, Frank A. (Beverly) of Lyons and Anthony B. He was predeceased by two brothers; George and Samuel, and sister Mary Marro.

Vanschaffel, Mary C. - Mary C. Vanschaffel, 85, died April 9, 1999 in Webster. She was born in Antwerp, Belgium, Dec. 23, 1913, to Peter and Cornelia Kotvis VanDyke. She had been a bookkeeper for IEC in Newark. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church for over 67 years, August Mauer Aux. 286 of the American Legion, Silver Link Rebekkah Lodge and VFW Aux. 2883. interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Shirley) Federico of Newark; sons, Roger F. (Pat) Dunlap of Marion and Terry L. (Carol) Dunlap of East Rochester; a stepson, Thomas Vanschaffel of Johnstown; step-daughters, Sandra Lyons and Rachael Lyon of Gloversville and Barbara Williams of Northville; sister-in-law, Bertha Kotvis of Wisconsin; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, including special step-grandchildren, Martha and Lewis Buseck; a cousin, Katherine Peck; a niece and two nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Floyd Dunlap in 1967, and her second husband, Lewis Vanschaffel in 1984; brothers, Peter and John Kotvis; and a cousin, Mary Faas.

VanEnwyck, Roland E. - Roland E. VanEnwyck, 73, of Newark, died April 8, 1999 at Via Health of Newark. Mr. VanEnwyck was born July 26, 1925, in Ontario, NY, the son of Charles and Alice Granger VanEnwyck. He was a retiree of Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester. Interment in Furnaceville Cemetery, Ontario. He is survived by Dorothy Leonard VanEnwyck; sons, Dale (Lois) of Shortsville and Ivan (Linda) of Arizona; daughters, Marie (Howard) Wright of Palmyra and Carol VanEnwyck of Newark; grandchildren, Steven, Karen and Charles; brother, Leslie (Dorothy) VanEnwyck of Williamson; sister-in-law, Leonore Reed of North Carolina; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Sherman.

Heitman, Lynn R. - Lynn R. Heitmann of Phelps, 43, died April 11, 1999. Mr. Heitmann was born Dec. 17, 1955, in Lyons, the son of Fritz and Lois Goodman Heitmann. He graduated from Penn Yan High School, and was employed by Garlock in Palmyra. He is survived by his son, Joseph Heitmann of Dundee; his father, Fritz Heitmarm of Waterloo: his fiance, Christine Wahl of Phelps; a brother, John Heitmann of Williamson; and one granddaughter.

Diviney, Dorothy M. - Dorothy M. Diviney, formerly of Peirson Ave., died Monday, April 12, 1999, at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mrs. Diviney was born in Seneca Falls to Thomas and Margaret McGrain Carroll. For many years, she was an orientation advisor at Newark Developmental Center. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery, VA, with her husband, John C. Diviney, who gave his life in 1943 during WWII. Mrs. Diviney is survived by her son, Jack (Patricia) Diviney of Novato, CA; sister, Ethel Emery of Corona, CA; many nieces and nephews.

Orbaker, Mary R. - Mary R. Orbaker, of Fairville, 87, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999. Mrs. Orbaker was born March 3, 1912 in Clifton Springs the daughter of Martin and Jennie Pelis Robyn. She was a graduate of the Geneseo Normal College and had taught in Hopewell and Fairville Station schools. Mary was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the Amitie Chapter #473, Order of Eastern Star, Fairville Volunteer Fire Department's Auxiliary and a life member of the New York State Steam Association. Interment in the Fairville Cemetery. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Glen; two sister-in-laws, Elizabeth DeCoster of Hemet, CA and Doris Orbaker of Palmyra. Also surviving are niece and nephew, Diane (Walter) Crum and Frank Orbaker.

Rykbost, Helen M. - Helen M. Rykbost, 90, of East Palmyra, died peacefully at home on April 13, 1999. Survivors include her husband Albert of 62 years; 4 sons, Robert (Marcia) of Framingham, MA, Duane of Lakeland, FL, Kenneth (Shirley) of Klamath Falls, OR, Lawrence (Jeanne) of Sodus; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth (Raymond) Lopez-Sanchez of Rochester; one brother, Walter (Wilma) Hunt of Buffalo; nieces and nephews. She had been a school teacher. Interment in the East Palmyra Cemetery.

Kraham, Michael W. Sr. - Michael W. Kraham Sr., 62, of Newark, died suddenly Monday (April 5, 1999) at the Via Health of Wayne - Newark. Mike was born November 5, 1936 in Endicott, the son of Paul and Cora James Kraham. He graduated in 1959 from the NYS University of Oneonta with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He taught at Marion Central School from 1959-63 while attending the Univ. of Rochester where he received his Masters Degree in Education in 1963. Mike became the work study instructor for handicapped students in Newark High School until 1982, when he became the work study coordinator for the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES in Williamson. He retired in 1992. In 1989, he was chosen instructor of the year by the NY Assoc. Special Needs Personnel. Mike had worked for the Finger Lakes Times and was assistant district manager for the Democrat and Chronicle. He was a member and sexton of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Mike was a baseball enthusiast and president of the Newark Diamond Boosters Club. He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Newark, for which he had also served as secretary/treasurer. Mike was named Newark Kiwanian of the Decade in 1990. Mike is survived by his wife, Marcia (Goebert) and sons, Joshua, Justin and Aaron at home, and Michael Jr. (Cristine) of Newark; daughter, Cecilia Heath of Glenmont; three grandchildren, Whitney and James Kraham, Rachel Heath; his mother, Cora Kraham; brother, Jeffery (Wallis) and sister, Karen Roma all of Binghamton; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bernard and Martha Goebert of Geneva; brother-in-law, Stephen (Christine) Goebert of Newark; several nieces and nephews. Interment in St. Mark's Memory Garden.

Arnold, Madge - Madge Arnold, 87, died on April 1, 1999 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. She was born July 13, 1911, in Montour Falls, the daughter of Bert and Annice Bendle Pollen. Mrs. Arnold was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church and was a life member of the Silver Links Rebekah Lodge 230. Interment in Burdett Cemetery in Burdett. She is survived by her sister, Betty Babcock, of Newark and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leland Arnold.

Snow, Margaret - Margaret Snow, 86, formerly of Lyons, died April 5, 1999 in New York City. Margaret was born August 21, 1912, in Lyons, the daughter of James and Mary Gayliard Snow. She had lived in New York City for many years and retired as a legal secretary for Sherry and O'Neil attorneys in New York City. She was a ballet teacher and piano teacher and published several songs. She had an avid interest in art. She also had attended St. Michael's Church in Lyons. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Margaret is survived by a sister, Theresa Snow of Newark; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Kathleen Gianerico and Mae Graham; and her brothers, Frank and John Snow.

Hoskins, John A. - John A. Hoskins, 71, of Palmyra, died on April 6, 1999. Mr. Hoskins was a member of the Palmyra American Legion Post and was active with the Auxiliary Police in Palmyra. Interment in Machpelah Cemetery in LeRoy. He is survived by Eleanor, his wife of 36 years; daughter, Nan VanHout of Clifton Springs; three sons, James (Gloria) Sampson of Clifton Springs, Wayne (Elaine) Sampson of Prescott, AZ, Allan (Myrreah) White of Palmyra; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Nudd of TN, Audrey Declerck of Palmyra, Pat (Joe) Barnes of Newark; a brother, Richard Lonneville of Shortsville; nieces and nephews.
