Hoffman, Mylo - Mylo H. Hoffman, 89, of Williamson, died September 30, 1999. He had owned and managed Mylo's Arco Station and was a member of the Williamson Odd Fellows. Interment in Marion Cemetery. He is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Donald and De Hoffman of Williamson; grandchildren, Debora (Lynn) Warney, Daryl (Michele) Hoffman; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene (Fred) Manktelow of Marion; sister-in-law, Elsie Morgan; brothers-in-law, Renee (Doris) VanDeVelde, Chester Fisher, Peter Yaskow; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susie (VanDeVelde) Hoffman.

Keukelaar, Eva - Eva M. (Plyter) Keukelaar, 93, of Marion, died September 29, 1999. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She as the widow of Peter J. Keukelaar. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Hugh) Thorne of Newark; grandchildren, Sally Thorne, Karen (Pedro) Rivera, Gail (Joe) Schaar; great-granddaughter, Diana, all of Newark; sister, Blanche Leenhouts of Newark; sister-in-law, Nellie DeBlare of Florida; nieces and nephews.

Palladino, Jim - Jim Palladino, 49, of Seneca Falls, formerly of Lyons, died Sept. 23, 1999 in Geneva General Hospital. Mr. Palladino was born Jan. 24, 1950, in Lyons, son of Louis and Genevieve Buss Palladino. He was owner of Cayuga General Store in Seneca Falls for 19 years and Pro Sound Video DJ for 14 years. Interment in Spring Brook Cemetery, Seneca Falls. He is survived by his wife, Susan M. Palladino; two sons, Jason Palladino, Tony Palladino; daughter, Lisa Palladino, all of Seneca Falls; his mother and stepfather, Genevieve and Glen Giesy of Port Gibson; brothers, Richard Palladino of Rochester, Ronald Palladino of Romulus; three sisters, Linda Bryant of Newark, Helena Tyler of Lyons, Debbie Parmerini of Chittenango; several nieces and nephews.

Bowman, Edith May - Edith May Bowman, 95, of Newark, died Sept. 24, 1999 at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mrs. Bowman was born February 22, 1904, in Junius, to Frederick and Sarah Olin Smith. She was the widow of J. Howard Bowman, who died in March 1968. Interment at the Southwick Cemetery in Junius. She is survived by her two daughters, Betty J. Bowman of Mountain View, CA, and Gerry Bowman of Stanford, CA; two sisters, Pearl Pistillie of Anaheim, CA and Lois Zemanck of Johnston, NY; nieces and nephews.

Magde, Stanley B. - Stanley B. Magde, 82, of Marion, died Sept. 22, 1999. Stanley was a WWII Veteran and a member and past commander of the Marion American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Webster. Interment in White Haven Memorial Park. He is survived by Evelyn (Schleuse) Magde, his wife of 56 years; sons, Ronald (Diane) Magde, Donald (Penny) Magde, Robbie (Patricia) Magde, all of Marion; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Anne Peacock of Rochester; nieces and nephews.

Havert, Martha B. - Martha B. Havert, 98, of Port Gibson/ Newark, died September 27, 1999. She was born the daughter of Andrew and Antje Kroetje Bruinsma on September 22, 1901 in Paterson, New Jersey. She was a devoted wife and mother and a member of the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann Ruth and William VanOoyen of East Palmyra; grandchildren, Karen (AC) Ophoff of Michigan, Daniel (Donnie) VanOoyen of Dansville and Eric (Nancy) VanOoyen of Newark; great-grandchildren Philip, Adam and Katie Ophoff; Laurie Beukelaar and Daniel VanOoyen II, Kristin, Matthew and Stacey VanOoyen; sister, Rachel Frelier of Penfield; brothers, Peter and Walter (Virginia) Bruinsma both of Rochester; sister-in-law Trina Bruinsma of Ontario, NY; several nieces and nephews, She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Philip Havert in 1979.

Gansz, Duane Everett - Duane Everett Gansz, 61, of Lyons, died suddenly on Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999 at his home. Duane was born April 25, 1938, in Lyons, the son of Archibald and Helen Beal Gansz. He was the owner of Gansz Auction & Realty in Lyons. Duane was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM 406, the Lyons Rotary Club, the past director of the Newark-Wayne Hospital, the director of the Lyons National Bank, an honorary auctioneer of Ducks Unlimited, a member and past president, director, secretary/treasurer of the NYS Auctioneers Association, was named auctioneer of the year and was inducted into the auctioneer hall of fame. He is survived by his wife, Edythe of Lyons; children, David E. (Laura) Gansz of Greece, Susan M. (Thomas) Clark of Florida, Ross A. (Michaele) Gansz of Lyons and Erica T. Gansz of Lyons; grandchildren, Lauren and Garrett Clark, JonRoss Gansz and Drew Everett Gansz; three brothers, Myron (Edna) Gansz, Edward (Chris) Gansz and Thomas (Jeanette) Gansz, all of Lyons; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Helen Gansz in 1986.

Alexander, Mae C. - Mae C. Alexander of Newark, 94, died Tuesday, September 28, at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mrs. Alexander was born Sept. 10, 1905, in Victory, NY, the daughter of Ira and Gertrude Jones Cooper. She was an executive secretary for Jackson & Perkins Co. in the research and publicity department, retiring in 1967 with 38 years of service. She was a member of the Newark-Wayne Hospital Auxiliary, past noble - grand of the Silver Link Rebekah Lodge 230, the Wayne County Historical Society, and the Union Church in Cato. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by several nieces and a nephew; and good friends, Marian Monje, Mary Jane Smith and Ed and Kathleen Lootens. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert M. Alexander on Jan. 12, 1986.

Morse, Edwin S. - Edwin 'Ed' Stratton Morse of Lyons, 67, died September 28, 1999 after a brief illness. Interment will be at East Newark Cemetery.

Watts, Lola D. - Lola D. Watts, 79, of Newark, died September 28, 1999. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Penfield. She is survived by her children, Patricia DiRienzo, June Watts, Jerry (Cheryl) Watts, Jacqueline Williams, Frederick (Dianc) Watts Jr., Robert Watts, Donald Watts, Sharon (Hans) Toews, Jean Watts, Judith (David) VanDeMortel, Sandra (Gary) Ebert; twenty grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; sister Doris (Gerald) Klick; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Watts Sr. on June 15, 1970.

Miles, Nellie E. - Nellie B. Miles, 82, of Newark/Port Gibson, died September 29, 1999 at her home with all her children by her side. Mrs. Miles was born the daughter of Albert and Mary Vickers on February 4, 1917 in Pennsylvania. She was a homemaker and devoted wife and mother. Interment at Arnold Cemetery in Conesus, New York. She is survived by daughter, Anne Marie (John) Reynolds of Newark; sons, Patrick Vickers of Newark, Lawrence C. Miles of Lyons, and Laverne Miles of Florida; daughter-in-law Barbara Miles; grandchildren, Mary Ann (Daniel) Henderson, Rebecca and Robert Cross; great-grandson Garrett; sister, Edith Bailey of Clyde; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence R. Miles in 1987 and her son Richard Miles in 1998.

Valvano, Seraphina J. "Sarah" - Seraphina J. "Sarah" Valvano, 88, of Newark, died on Sept. 16, 1999 at her home. Sarah was born March 14, 1911, in Italy, the daughter of Carlo and Rose DeRosa Crescibene. She was a member of St. Michael Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Elks' Ladies Auxiliary and a past member of the Newark Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Michael (Linda) and Carl (Donna), both of Newark and Anthony (Nancy) of Ft. Pierce, Florida; one sister, Edith Crescibene; one brother, Joseph Crescibene of Newark; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony "Tony" in 1988; and a brother, Henry Crescibene.

Geldorf, Cornelius A. - Cornelius A. Geldorf, 69, died Sept. 17, 1999. He was a local dairy farmer and had been employed as a rural newspaper carrier for Gannett in Rochester and the Canandaigua Messenger, as well as operating a water hauling business. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. Cornelius is survived by Virginia, his wife of 47 years; his children, Gary (Sue) Geldorf of Webster, Debbie (Scott) Lush of Walworth, Nancy (Rick) VanOoyen of Newark Jim (Kathy) Geldorf of Macedon, Laurie (Paul) Latham of Midland Texas, Brian (Tracy) Geldorf of Palmyra; 14 grandchildren; sister, Mary Jane (Bob) VanHalle of Cayuga; in-laws, Ernest and Lenora Facer of Lyons, Bob and Marie Pieters of Penfield, Dick and Marian Pieters of Newark; one aunt and uncle; nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his son, Stephen Neil Geldorf on November 6, 1965.

Ballard, Dorothy M. - Dorothy M. Ballard, 70, of Sodus, died Sept. 16, 1999 at the Seneca Nursing Home. Interment in the Baptist Rural Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Nathan; seven children, Cheryl Tobin of Rush, Raymond Guck of Honeoye, Deborah M. Wingate of East Rochester, Linda M. Wilson of Marion, Sean Ballard of North Rose and Amy (James) Keagle of Savannah, Jeannie Guck of Savannah; 16 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Charles Tubbs of Orlando, FL and Douglas (Mary) Tubbs of Greece; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Tubbs.

Tingue, Danny L. - Danny L. Tingue, 50, of North Rose, died suddenly on September 16, 1999 at Rochester General Hospital. He lived most of his life in Sodus, was a 1968 graduate of Sodus Central School, and a 31-year employee of Xerox in Webster, where he worked in corporate trucking. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; three sons, Michael of Jacksonville FL, Jody (Carol) of Alton and Danny Jr. of Macedon; daughter, Danielle of Lyons; granddaughter, Adriana; stepchildren, Ricky and Jessica Itara of North Rose; mother, Grace of Sodus; three sisters, Lynda (Sonny) Briot of Williamson, Joyce (Randy) Fletcher and Judy Templeton of Sodus; 2 brothers, Dale (Patty) of Wolcott and Terry (Laura) of Sodus; aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Leslie, in 1993 and a very special uncle, David Lonneville in 1992.

Palone, Larry G. - Larry G. Palone, 57, of Warwick, NY formerly of Newark, died Sept. 20, 1999 at Horton Medical Center in Middletown, NY after a brief illness. Larry was born to Dominic and Alice Feiock Palone, August 27, 1942 in Newark. He was a graduate of Newark High School, and proprietor of EZE Equipment Co. in Florida, NY. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery in Lyons. Larry is survived by his loving wife Marjorie Bauer Palone; daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Harry Foote of Scotchtown, NY; son Michael Palone of Warwick; three grandchildren, Brian, Brenten and Brittany; mother, Alice Palone; brother, Gary Palone of Geneva; sister, Donna Harris of Syracuse; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Crowther, Florence C. (Cottrell) - Florence C. ( Cottrell) Crowther of Palmyra, died January 13,1999 in her 81st year. She was predeceased by her husband J. William Crowther, D.C. a chiropractor in Palmyra for many years, and daughter Sandra Kay Crowther. She is survived by two sisters, Mabel Bahler of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Shirley McDonnell of Hawaii; nieces, nephews and dear friends. Interment in Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn, NY.

Humbert, Lorene M. - Lorene M. Humbert, 81, died September 13, 1999. Interment in Ridge Chapel Cemetery. Lorene is survived by her husband, Luther Humbert; sons, Bruce (Kathy) Grandin, Keith (Lynn) Grandin; 3 step grandchildren; brother, Wilson Sessions.

Joseph, Avard C. - Avard C. Joseph, 81, of Clifton Springs, died September 7, 1999 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. Mr. Joseph was born June 13, 1918 in Ainsworth, Nebraska, the son of Ray and Daisy Cornelius Joseph. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in several campaigns. Interment Riverview Cemetery. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn Proper Joseph; sons, Eugene (Mary) Joseph and Ronald (Terry) Joseph, all of Guam, Charles (Laura) Joseph of Gulfport, Mississippi and Roger (Francine) Joseph of Lyons; daughter-in-law, Betty Joseph of Newark; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice (Chester) Caprini and Elaine (Alvert) Woodhead, all of Naples; brother, John (Della) Joseph of Prattsburg; sisters-in-law, Mary Joseph of Prattsburg, Leona Joseph of Naples, and Lucille Joseph of Philadelphia, NY; brothers and sisters-in-law, Laurice Proper of Spencerport, Richard Proper and Claude Proper of Phelps, Betty Proper of Newark and Duane Proper of Clifton Springs; nieces and nephews. Johnson, James E. - James E. Johnson, 74, of Clifton Springs, died September 10, 1999. Interment in the Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ethelmae Johnson; children, James E. (Pam) Johnson; Jay (Cheryl) Johnson, Joy Allard; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Vanderlinde, David D. - David D. 'Blackie' Vanderlinde, 73, of Fairville, died Sept. 11, 1999 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mr. Vanderlinde was born June 23, 1926, in Sodus, son of Isaac and Lena Vanderlinde. He had previously worked for Bloomer Brothers for 17 years. Blackie was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church, the Fairville Fire Dept. and the Newark Elks Lodge. Blackie retired in 1988 from the Clifton Springs Hospital, where he had worked in the maintenance department for 21 years. Interment in Fairville Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Randall) Rider of Clifton Springs; four grandchildren, Timothy Vanderlinde, Hermy Vanderlinde, Matthew Rider and Crystal Rider; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Mara Vanderlinde; a daughter-in-law Wendy Vanderlinde of Lyons; three brothers, Isaac of Lockport, Ralph of Newark and Martin 'Toby' of Lyons; a sister, Maude Featherly of Sodus; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife Emily; son Larry; brothers, William and John; sisters, Janette Davison and Marie Brennessel.

Jackson, Gail S. - Gail S. Jackson, 45, Newark, died September 10, 1999. Gail was born June 11, 1954 in Malone, NY to Ardith (Cook) and Ira Durkee. She worked at Garlock in Palmyra. Interment in Chateaugay. She is survived by her husband, Allen; daughter, Mary Beth Jackson, at home; son, Jeromy Jackson of Fairville; three stepchildren, Joshua Jackson of Newark, Caprice DeBuyser of Newark, Jeremy Waters of MI; her father, Ira Durkee of Marion; three sisters, Diane (Roger) Anderson of Wolcott, Pennie (James) Hutt of TX, Pattie (Mark) Sauer of Williamson; two brothers, Danny (Solita) of Gulfport, MS, Dale of Rochester. She was predeceased by her mother Ardith.

Dobbelaere, Robert C. - Robert C. Dobbelaere, 56, of Wickham Blvd., Sodus Point, formerly of Newark, died September 14, 1999 at Strong Memorial Hospital. Survivors include his wife Mary; two daughters, Chris (Sean) Kennedy of Sodus Point, Carie Dobbelaere of Rochester; son, Jeff Dobbelaere of Georgia; grandchildren,Taylor and Michael.

Gay, Vincenzina - Vincenzina Gay, 82, of Sodus, died September 2, 1999 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. She was born on June 17, 1917 to Samuel and Theresa Pilato, in Niagara Falls, NY. She retired from Seneca Foods where she was a factory worker. Interment at Furnaceville Cemetery in Ontario. Mrs. Gay is survived by her son, Carmen Catalano of East Rochester; daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Robert Fillmore of Newark; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; brothers, Joseph (Grace) Pilato of Williamson and James (Virginia) Pilato of Ontario; sisters, Sandra Hicks of Florida and Jean Graham of Ontario; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gay was predeceased by her first husband Anthony Catalano in 1994, second husband Herbert Gay in 1996, grandson Carmen Jr. in 1995 and a brother Frank Pilato during WWII.

Welcher, Joyce S. - Joyce S. Welcher, 85, of Newark and Rochester, died August 29, 1999, at the Brightonian Nursing Home in Rochester. Mrs. Welcher was born in Newark on Sept. 17, 1913, daughter of Alfred and Emily Marshall Scarth. Mr. and Mrs. Welcher were the last owners of the family farm just north of Newark, on which Hereford cattle were raised. There was also a feedlot, slaughterhouse, meat shop and locker plant on the premises. Joyce was the bookkeeper for the entire farm operation. The Welchers retired to Florida for 18 years before returning to Rochester. At the time of her husband Ronald's death two years ago, the couple had been married 57 years. She was an active Republican party worker and an avid duplicate bridge player. Joyce was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark and the Newark Garden Club. Interment in the Newark Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Robert of Syracuse and William of Rochester; five grandchildren, Susan, Dianne, David, Stephen and Jeff; and a brother, Alfred Scarth of Fernandina Beach, FL.

Schell, Gladys L. - Gladys L. Schell, 82, of Sodus, died September 5, 1999 in the Wayne County Nursing Home. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. She is survived by daughters, Cherry West of Ithaca and Iris Williams of Newark; two grandchildren, Hope Williams and Tom (Melanie) Castro of Sodus Point; two great-grandchildren, Gage and Mercedes Castro. Mrs. Schell was predeceased by her husband, Robert who died in 1994.

Pangburn, James W. - James W. Pangburn, 52, of Wolcott, died September 6, 1999 at ViaHealth- Newark Campus. Jim is survived by his wife, Theresa; sons, James C. (Lori) Pangburn of Lyons and Cory J. Pangburn at home, daughters, Kari Williamson of Lyons and Rebecca Garrett of Sodus; his mother, Helen Pangburn; grandchildren, Amber, Brett, Cody, Dakota, and Brittany; his sister, Debra (Les Johncox) Pangburn of Newark. He was predeceased by his father, James C. Pangburn and a sister, Karen Ann Pangburn.

Patterson, David B. 'Pat' 'Babe' - David B. 'Pat' 'Babe' Patterson, 71, of Sodus Center, died at his home on September 4, 1999. Mr. Patterson was born in Clearfield, PA and moved to Wayne County in 1947. Interment in Baptist Rural Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Triou; three daughters, Patricia (Dan) Kuhner of Ontario, Deborah (Bob) Kuhner of Sodus, Alma (Lewis) Grace of Wolcott; four grandchildren, David (Suanne) Kuhner of Phelps, Kimberly (Todd) Lorenzen of Sodus, Jennifer Kuhner of Ontario, Nathaniel (Jennifer) Grace of Wolcott; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Benjamin Grace, and Ryan Lorenzen; 4 brothers, Jack of FL, Cameron of CO, Stephen of N. Tonawanda, Dallas of Oswego; a sister, Jean Kern of Nevada.

Phillips, Thomas J. - Thomas J. , Phillips, 57, of Marion, died suddenly on September 5, 1999. Thomas was a retired Xerox employee. He was a member of the B.M.W. Motorcycle Club, A.M.A., and a member of Xerox Supervisor's Club. Interment in the Marion Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Ballard Phillips; 2 daughters, Cori (Stephen) Stapleton of Clifton Springs, Staci of Marion, his mother, Thelma Phillips of Newark; brother, Richard (Ruth) Phillips of Newark. He was predeceased by his father Stanley in 1998.

Virts, Randy D. - Randy D. Virts, 33, of North Rose, died on Sept. 5, 1999 in Strong Memorial Hospital. He had been injured in an automobile accident. Interment is in York Settlement Cemetery. He is survived by his sisters, Joann (Roger) Knapp of Alton, Janet (Dale) Mundy of Wolcott, Wanda Rogers of Alton, brothers, Robert (Miriam) of North Rose, Raymond (Shelda), and Ronald (Barbara) all of Lyons, fiancee, Laurie Briggs of North Rose, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Zachary in 1996.

Pembroke, Veryl E. - Veryl E., Pembroke, 86, of Clifton Springs, formerly of Palmyra, died September 4, 1999 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Veryl was known to many as the Proprietor of Palmyra Building Supply for 20 Years. Building Inspector and Water Commissioner for the Town of Sodus prior to his retirement. He is survived by daughters, Chloe (Robert) Schmidt of Greeley, Colorado, Kathleen (James) Denniston of Palmyra and son, Paul (Carol) Pembroke of Shortsville, 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, sister, Cleone (Harold) Farnsworth and brother, Galen Pembroke of Palmyra.

Hilfiker, Glenn J. - Glenn J. Hilfiker, 80, of Newark, died Sept. 6, 1999, at Clifton Springs Hospital, after a brief illness. Mr. Hilfiker was born Dec. 15, 1918, in Rochester, son of Glenn R. and Elizabeth Miller Hilfiker. He graduated from Webster High School, where he was a basketball star. After graduation, he worked at the Monroe Casket Co. in Webster. In 1938, he became a machinist at Gleason Works in Rochester. In 1944, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Macon, Georgia. After one and a half years of service, he returned to Gleason's, where he became a stationary engineer in the power plant. He took machine shop practice in 1941, and power plant operations at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1952. In 1954, he became chief engineer at Bloomer Brothers Paper Mill in Newark. After the mill closed, he became superintendent of maintenance at Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic. He retired from there in 1980. Mr. Hilfiker was a member of Webster Masonic Lodge, the Phelps Lions Club, the Newark Elks Lodge, the American Legion Post 457 in Phelps and the United Church of Phelps. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Interment in the Webster Rural Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bernice Ingersoll Hilfiker of Newark, formerly of Remsen; two sons, Ronald (Sarah) of Geneseo and Kenneth (Patti) of Anchorage, AL; daughter, Dr. Joan Hilfiker (Dr. Ronald Linkenheil) of Big Flats; brother, Harry (Ave) of Spencerport; sister, Betty (Charles) Brunne of East Quogue, Long Island; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald, in 1930; his father, Glenn, in 1959; and his mother, Elizabeth, in 1994.

Dey, Kenneth C. - Kenneth C. Dey, 83, of Palmyra, died Thursday, August 26, 1999. Kenneth was a member of the Newark Elks Lodge, VFW, Quarter Century Club of NYSEG. He was retired in 1978 from NYSEG after 43 years. He was a graduate of Newark High School class of 1934, and was a Merit Cup Award winner. He was also a member of Palmyra Western Presbyterian Church. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mildred (Mickey); daughter, Sandra of Greensboro, NC; sister, Pauline (Harry) VandeMortel of FL; several nieces and nephews. Kenneth was predeceased by his sister Millie VanHoesen, and brothers Nelson and Forrest Dey.

Welcher, Joyce S. - Joyce S. Welcher, 85, of Newark and Rochester, died August 29, 1999, at the Brightonian Nursing Home in Rochester. Mrs. Welcher was born in Newark on Sept. 17, 1913, daughter of Alfred and Emily Marshall Scarth. Mr. and Mrs. Welcher were the last owners of the family farm just north of Newark, on which Hereford cattle were raised. There was also a feedlot, slaughterhouse, meat shop and locker plant on the premises. Joyce was the bookkeeper for the entire farm operation. The Welchers retired to Florida for 18 years before returning to Rochester. At the time of her husband Ronald's death two years ago, the couple had been married 57 years. She was an active Republican party worker and an avid duplicate bridge player. Joyce was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church in Newark and the Newark Garden Club. Interment in the Newark Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Robert of Syracuse and William of Rochester; five grandchildren, Susan, Dianne, David, Stephen and Jeff; and a brother, Alfred Scarth of Fernandina Beach, FL.

Calhoon, Shirley M. - Shirley M. Calhoon, 84, of Phelps, died Aug. 29, 1999, at the House of John in Clifton Springs. Shirley was born May 23, 1915, in Waterloo, daughter of Clarence and Mary Ridley. She had lived in the Phelps area since 1953. She had worked at C.H. Stuart in Newark. Interment in Oaklawn Cemetery. She is survived by her children, Dolores McWilliams of Clifton Springs, Emily (Carl) DeRuyter of Spencerport, Carol (William) Conklin of Phelps, Brenda (Allan) Swayse of New Hampshire, Pauline (Norman) Matthew of Victor and Bruce (Candice) Gordon of Spencerport;15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, June Goodman of Phelps and Frances (Richard) Hauf of Waterloo; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Horace Greeley Smith in 1949; and her second husband, Vernon Calhoon in 1975.

Markel, Randolph - Randolph 'Randy' Scott Markel, 18, of Lyons, died August 29, 1999. He died at Strong Memorial Hospital. Randy was born Sept. 29, 1980, in Geneva, son of Scott and Michelle Osgerhout Markel. He was employed at Peter C. Herman Inc. in Marion, where he made wooden pallets. Interment in the Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons. He is survived by his fiancee, Kim Kirchneyer of Buffalo; a son, Brandon; his father, Scott Markel of Lyons; his mother, Mickie (LeRoy) Leggs of Illinois; brothers, James Durham and Michael Osgerhout, both of Illinois; paternal grandmother, Marie Crane; paternal greatgrandmother, Dorothy Hutchinson; aunts and uncles. Dubois, Jacob A. - Jacob A. Dubois, 87, of Newark, died Aug. 28, 1999. Jacob was a Gleason Works retiree. He was also a member of the Arcadia Senior Citizens. Interment in Marion Cemetery. Hamelinck, Bert - Bert Hamelinck, 88, of Newark, died Aug, 29.,1999, at Rochester General Hospital. Mr. Hamelinck was born Jan. 14, 1911, in Holland, the son of John and Emma Ritco Hamelinck. He retired from Fold-Pak, where he had been a truck driver for over 35 years. He was also a member of St. Michael's Church. Interment in Marion Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lavina; brother, August (Inez) Hamelinck; sister, Bertha Claeys, all of Newark; and several nieces and nephews. Rich, Harry E. - Harry E. Rich, 78, of Marion, died August 20, 1999. Mr. Rich was a Marion Town Justice for 20 years, former chair of Marion Republican Party, owner of Caldwell Place, a Century Farm. He served 20 years on Wayne Co. Youth Board, was a member of the Marion Fire Dept., 30 years on National Ski Patrol, and 50 years in the Masonic Lodge. He was involved with the Marion Bicentennial and Sesquicentennial programs. He loved history and authentic colonial crafts. Interment in Marion Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Young Rich; his daughter, Martha; sister, Angie (Robert) Terbush of Ontario; nieces and nephews.

White, Pauline V. - Pauline V. White, 79, of 3 Franklin St., died Friday, August 20, 1999 at the Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic. Mrs. White was born on Sept. 30, 1919, in Phelps, the daughter of Peter and Stephanie VerBeke VerStraete. She was a member of the Phelps American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and St. Francis Church. She was retired from the Newark Developmental Center. Interment in St. Francis Cemetery. She is survived by her son, Stuart (Ruth) White of Bayswater, Australia; daughter, Fay White of Phelps; her faithful friend and companion John Marsh; five nephews.

Morgan, Beverly S. Keener - Beverly S. Keener Morgan, 76, of Fairville, died Monday, August 23, 1999 at the DeMay Living Center. Bev was born the daughter of Leslie and Beatrice Howell Stark on December 27, 1922 in Ithaca, New York. She worked as an assembler at IBM before she and her late husband started 'Keener Industrial Cleaning' in Rochester. Interment at Marion Cemetery. Bev is survived by her daughters, Eydie (Bill) Chamberlin of Newark and Linda (Jerry) Salber of Rochester; stepson, Woody (Grace) Keener of Naples; grandsons, Jeff, James (Stephanie), Jason Chamberlin and Jesse Salber; great grandchildren Natalie, Steven and Shawn Chamberlin; stepgrandchildren Gary (Julie) Keener, Jenny, Savannah and Hayley Keener; sisters, Josephine Lewey and Vail (Hugh) Martin; several nieces and nephews. Evans, Laramie G. - Laramie G. Evans, 83, of Cherry Street, Lyons, died Thurs., August 12, 1999, at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mr. Evans was born Nov. 1, 1915, in England, son of Albert and Rae Newman Evans. He was a trainer and breeder of race horses. In his earlier years, he had a great interest in baseball and was a pitcher. He wrote for the Blood Horse and the Thoroughbred Record newspapers. He served in the Army during World War II. He was also a member of St. Michael's Church in Lyons. Interment in Rural Cemetery in Lyons. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law, Larry Ann Evans and Ignacio Calvo of Lyons; son, Barry Kent Evans of Chicago, Ill.; grandson, Alexander Calvo of Lyons; two sisters, Cecilia Evans of San Diego, CA, and Millie Landis of FL; brother, Perry of Plainview, Long Island; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased bu his wife, Ann Collins Evans, who died on Jan. 6, 1999.

Rivera, Maria - Maria Rivera, 49, of East Miller St., Newark, died August 9, 1999 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Maria was born in Puerto Rico on July 12, 1950, the daughter of Efrain and Haydee Irizarry Rivera. She had worked at Newark Florists for nine years. Maria is survived by a brother Jose Rivera, New York City, and nieces and nephews.

Sommers, Benjamin - Benjamin Sommers, 73, of Newark, died August 14, 1999 at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Campus. Ben was born, the son of Benjamin and Marion Campbell Sommers, October 3, 1925 in Tonawanda, New York. He was a baseball lover and collected many baseball cards. He had spent most of his life in the Newark area. Interment in the East Newark Cemetery.He is survived by his brother John Sommers of Newark and many friends.

VanDuser, Grace Adams - Grace Adams VanDuser died at her home on August 16, 1999. Mrs. VanDuser was born in Chaumont, NY, the daughter of El Nathan and Luella Butter Lucas. She was a graduate of Canton College of Technology (Dietitian), the former Director of The American Cancer Society (Wayne County Unit). She did research on the National Cancer Survey for several years, was the former Chairman of the Sodus Town Health Committee and the Sodus Loan Closet; was a director of the Wayne County Health Association (TB and Heart), and the Wayne County Cancer Society, former Member of the Worm Wood Twig and Director for three years and Vice Chairman for one year of the Myers Community Hospital Twig Assoc. She was in charge 'Books Sandwiched In' for several years at the Sodus Free Library. She was a 50-year member of The Eastern Star, the Grange and The First United Presbyterian Church of Sodus. She was former chairperson of the Church Women's Association and served as a Deacon and Elder. She was a member of the Wayne County Historical Society and the Sodus Bay Historical Society, a former member of the Tuesday Club of Newark and the Newark Country Club. She was a former member of the Cornell Lab Ornithology Sap Sucker Woods. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. She was predeceased by her husband E. Norris VanDuser and her sister, Juliette E. Galbraith. VanHanehan, John G. Jr. - John G. VanHanehan, Jr., 91, of Lyons, died Wednesday, August 18, 1999 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Mr. VanHanehan was born the son of John G. and Suzanna DeBryne VanHanehan on September 21, 1907 in Newark. He worked and retired from Newark Developmental Center as a mechanic. He married Mary Anna Martin on February 10, 1931. Survivors include his daughter, Gail West of Fairport; grandchildren, Mark West and Shelly West; great-grandsons Victor and Donald West; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Howard Armstrong and Alice Teagarden and many friends and caregivers. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, on December 19, 1996 and his sister Mary Heinrich in 1996.

He was retired from Dole Detective Agency, where he worked as a guard. Buckley, Donald J. - Donald J, Buckley, 69, of Newark, died on August 8, 1999 at the VA Medical Center in Canandaigua. Mr. Buckley was born in Buffalo on September 29, 1929 the son of James and Johanna (Balogh) Buckley. He spent 12 years in military service, with the U.S. Navy, Army, and Air Force. From 1953-55 he was the Armed Forces Heavyweight Boxing Champion as well as being a former Golden Gloves and Diamond Gloves champion in New Jersey. He was a member of the VFW Post 2883 in Newark. He is survived by his father, James Buckley; a sister, Dawn (Don) Mesler; a brother, James R. (Barbara) Buckley; his sons, Donald, James, and Mark Buckley; and several nieces and nephews.

Greenwald, Josephine J. - Josephine J. Greenwald, 83, died at her Newark home on August 9, 1999. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Mrs. Greenwald was born the daughter of Philip and Mary Comella on January 14, 1916 in Canandaigua. She retired from Fold-Pak Corp. where she worked as an assembler for 34 years. She was a member of St. Michael Church in Newark. She is survived by her husband Donald Greenwald Sr.; stepson Donald Greenwald Jr.; brothers George (Vera) Comella of Newark., Anthony (Dorothy) Comella of Florida; Michael (Vernice) Comella of Texas; sister-in-law Mary Comella of Newark; nieces and nephews. Her brothers Edward Comella and Philip Comella predeceased Mrs. Greenwald.

Claeys, Robert - Robert Claeys, 82, of Bath, died on August 9, 1999 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bath. Interment in Newark Cemetery.Mr. Claeys was born in Fairport on November 20, 1916, the son of Andrew and Leona DeBlaeye Claeys. He was a retired truck driver and had served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by two brothers, Raymond DePauw and Wilber DePauw both of Newark, and several nieces and nephews. He as predeceased by his parents and a brother Ceriel Claeys.

McSherry, Allen - Allen McSherry, formerly of Newark, died July 28, 1999, in North Miami Beach, Florida. Allen resided in Newark in the 1920's and 1930's. He was a member of the Class of 1930 at Newark High School and attended several of their Class Reunions, which were held every 10 years for the past 40 years. He had been looking forward to the 70th class reunion, which may be held this summer.

Smith,John R. - John R. 'Jack' Smith, 76, of West Miller Street, Newark, died on July 29, 1999 at the Living Center South in Geneva. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Smith was born Jan. 1, 1923, in La Porte City, Iowa, son of John and Julia Cranny Smith. He had served with the Navy during World War II. Following his military service, he attended Yale University, graduating in 1948. Jack had been an industrial engineering consultant. He was a communicant of St. Michael Church and had been a member of the Clifton Springs Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Eleanor; a son, Dr. Timothy J. (Kathryn) Smith of Liberty, Mo.; two daughters, Linda A. Smith of Bermuda Dunes, CA, and Laurie E. (Clifford) Shields of La Quinta, CA; three grandchildren, Erin and Christopher Smith and Benjamin Shields; two sisters, Kathleen Higgins of Waterloo, Iowa, and Isadora Stahn of Jackson, Wyoming, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Julia Cranny Smith; and two brothers, Joseph and Donald Smith.

Morris, John J. - John J. Morris, 80, of Fairport, died on July 26,1999. John was a WWII Army Veteran for 4 1/2 years serving both Europe and Aleutian Islands; also an employee for Xerox Corp for 20 years. He is survived by wife Martha (Boynton), formerly of Newark; 2 sons, John and Jim (Jodi); 2 grandchildren, Lexi and Joshua; sister, Polly (Kenneth) Malotte of VA; several nieces and nephews.

Trombino, Josephine S. - Josephine S. Trombino, 92, of Montezuma Street, Lyons died Friday, July 30, 1999 at the Living Center Geneva North in Geneva. Interment at South Lyons Cemetery. Josephine was born Feb. 8, 1907 in Lyons, a daughter to Rocco and Grace Montemorano Sappa. As a lifelong area resident, she was a member of St. Michael's Church, Eureka Grange and a member of the former Rosary and Altar Society. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Trombino of Lyons; two sons, Arthur (Marcia) Trombino of Lyons and James Trombino of Westmoreland; three granddaughters, Erin Pica, Sara Trombino and Amy Warner; one step-granddaughter, Gwenda Gulvin; brother, Anthony Sappa; two sisters, Alice Odom of Virginia and Dorothy VanEtten of Highland Mills, NY; many nieces and nephews.

Brevet, Peter H. Sr. - Peter H. Brevet, Sr., 83, of Catlin Road, Newark died July 30, 1999 at ViaHealth of Wayne. Interment in Fairville Cemetery. Peter was born on Oct. 6, 1915, in West Walworth, the son of Isaac and Sarah DeBruyne Brevet. He retired in 1977 from C.H. Stuart Co., where he worked in maintenance. He farmed until 1955. He was a charter member of the Fairville Fire Department and a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Elnora C. (Boughton) Brevet; son, Peter Jr. (Nancy) of Newark; two daughters, Joyce (Harold) DeRue and Sandra (Edward) DeRue, both of Newark; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Cortright, Carl R. - Carl R. Cortright, 70, of Sodus, died July 30, 1999. Interment, Baptist Rural Cemetery, Sodus Center. Carl was an Army Veteran and a retiree from the Newark Developmental Center, a member of the Iron Workers Union, Sodus Masonic Lodge #392, and the Newark American Legion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Carole A. Greco, Lucille A. - Lucille A. Greco, 73, of Mason Street, Newark died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. Lucille was born March 2, 1926, daughter of Anthony and Josephine Incarnato Forgione. She had worked in the restaurant business in Clyde for 10 years. For 20 years she helped in the operation of the Newark Grill with her husband. She was also a member of St. Michael's Church in Newark. She is survived by her husband, James J. Greco; son, Dennis J. (Susan) Greco of East Rochester; two grandchildren, Brian and Melissa; brother, Nicholas (Cecelia) Forgione; two sisters, Tinella Ochs and Mrs. Rudy (Anna) Darcangelis, all of Lyons; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Lonneville, Helen (O'Connor) - Helen Lonneville, 78, of Palmyra, died August 4, 1999 at her home. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur E. and son Terry. Mayeu, Robert N. - Bob Mayeu, 68, died Friday, July 23, 1999. Interment in Riverview Cemetery, Clifton Springs. He was born June 15, 1931 to Arthur and Bessie Sweet Mayeu in Williamson. He was a graduate of Williamson High School and retired from Burroughs Corp. in Rochester. He was a member of the Arcadia Reformed Church in Newark where he served as Elder, Choir Director and on the original building committee for the present location. Bob was a past member of the Community Players in Clifton Springs, and was involved with the coordinating of the Williamson Apple Blossom Festival. His hobbies included designing and making costumes, wedding gowns, and wedding cakes. His wife proudly wore her wedding gown, which he designed and made. Bob is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 44 years, Marlene Sadler Mayeu; son, Brian Mayeu of Clifton Springs; daughters, Kimberly Mayeu of Florida, Kelly and her husband, William Thompson, of Florida, and Mindy and her husband, the Rev. Gerald Norman of Illinois; granddaughters, Trinity, Amanda, Bethany, Olivia, and Elyce; grandboy, Aaron; brothers, Arthur Jr. (Pat) Mayeu of Williamson, Allen Mayeu of Wolcott, and Marshall (Judy) Mayeu of Williamson; sisters, Janice (Dean) Sheffield, and Loretta (Morris) Wahl both of Williamson; sister-in-law, Shirley Mayeu of Williamson; many nieces and nephews. His brother Duane predeceased Bob in 1997.

De Torio, Margaret E. 'Marge' - Margaret E. 'Marge' De Torio, 88, formerly of Broad St., Lyons, died Friday, July 23,1999 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. Mrs. De Torio was born August 23, 1910 in Clyde, daughter of Charles and Mary DiSanto Castilano. She was a member of St. Michael's Church and its former Altar and Rosary Society. She is survived by two sons, Gerald (Marie) of Newark, and John 'Jack' (Barbara) of Lyons; two daughters, Mariann (Richard) Vandermark of Lyons, and Nancy Richards of Webster; six grandchildren, Pamela (Eric) Platte, Tina (Jeff) Easter, Renee and Richard Vandermark, Shawn and Brian Bacon; sister, Jane Lawrence of Webster; brother, Robert Castilano of Syracuse; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dominic A. 'Mack' DeTorio, on Sept. 8, 1991; three sisters, Joan Sherman, Helen Covert and Louise Cipriano; and three brothers, Raymond, Sidney and Matthew Castilano.

Kommer, Barbara - Barbara Kommer, 59, died July 26, 1999 at F.F. Thompson Hospital, Canandaigua, after a long illness. Barbara was born July 29, 1939 in Glen Cove, daughter of Russell and Mabel Davis. She was a graduate of Keuka School of Nursing, Class of 1939. She was employed by the VA Medical Center at F.F. Thompson Hospital and had worked at the Ontario County Home Care from 1972 to 1996. She was a board member of Compassionate Care and was a board member and trustee of the United Methodist Church in Manchester. Interment in Pioneer Cemetery, Manchester. She is survived by her husband, Walter; two sons, Russell (Janell) Kommer of Newark and Mark (Karen) Kommer of Hopewell; three granddaughters, Tabitha, Brittney Marie and Julie Kommer; and three grandsons, Philip, Jeffey and Jacob Kommer; sister, Hope (Robert) Mann of Northport, Long Island. She was predeceased by her daughter, Cheryl in 1960; and her son, Gary in 1990.

Croll, Marjorie D. - Marjorie D. Croll, 71, of Phelps, died on Saturday, July 24, 1999 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Interment in St. Francis Cemetery, Phelps. Marjorie was born Aug. 4, 1927 in Newark, daughter of the late Bernard and Marian DePauw. She had lived in the area all her life. She was retired from Phelps Sun Gas and was a member of St. Francis Church in Phelps. She was a former member of the Professional Business Women's Association, a former member of the Phelps Croquet Club and she had also worked on various village committees. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Donald) Bagshaw of Clifton Springs; three sons, Robert (Linda) Croll of Newark, William (Tammy) Croll of Newark and Bernard Croll of Phelps; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Genevieve (Robert) Koch of Rhode Island and Joanne (Robert) Davis of Kansas; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Croll; and her brother, Howard DePauw.

Hildebrandt, Emil F. J. Jr. - Emil F. J. Hildebrandt, Jr., 85, of Newark, died July 27, 1999 at Via Health of Wayne, Newark Campus. Interment in the East Newark Cemetery. Emil as born Nov. 25, 1913 in Syracuse, NY, the son of Emil Sr. and Louise Hildebrant. He was retired from Goetzman & Newman, where he was a truck driver for over 40 years. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Newark. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Minnie Wedman Hildebrandt; daughter Karen (John) Simizon of Newark; three grandchildren, Suzan (David) Streed of Colorado, Jeff (Amy Buck) Simizon of Georgia, and Mike (Tary) Simizon of DeWitt; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Aunkst of Lyons. He as predeceased by his granddaughter, Sharon VanDeWalle in 1998.

Gullo, Orlando R. - Orlando R. 'Orlie' Gullo, 65, of Caboor Court, Newark, died Thursday, July 15, 1999 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Mr. Gullo was born Aug. 16, 1933, in Newark, son of Frank and Madeline Mastroianni Gullo. Orlie had served with the U.S. Army in Japan and Korea during the Korean conflict. Following his military service, lie attended St. John Fisher College, graduating in 1959. He was employed by Mobil Chemical for 33 years, where he was a distribution and logistics manager, retiring in 1992. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Newark and was also a member of the Arcadia Memorial Post 2883 of the VFW. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beverly Garnesy Gullo; his children, Mark (Laurie) of Harrisburg, PA, Ann (Ted) Adams of Rochester, Steven (Tammy) of Penfield and Erika Gullo at home; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph and Anthony Gullo, both of Newark; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Paul and Frank Jr.

Popeck, Helen A. - Helen A. Popeck, 82, died July 16, 1999. Mrs. Popeck was born the daughter of Norman and Abbie Sullivan Austin on November 20, 1916, in Canton, NY. She was a member of St. Michael's Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. She worked for the Newark Developmental Center in Newark as a dietician. She was a graduate of Canton State University of New York in 1936. She married Paul D. Popeck on October 22, 1945. Interment in St. Francis Cemetery, Phelps. She is survived by her sons, Richard of VA and Gregory of UT; two grandchildren, Paul and Evelyn; brothers, Robert (Jeannine) Austin of Potsdam, John Austin of Oswego and Paul Austin of Watertown; many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Popeck was predeceased by her husband, Paul in 1971, grandson, Casimir in 1996, brother, Merrill Austin in 1997, sister, Betty Austin in 1925.

Hueter, August - August Hueter, of Rushville, a well-respected glassblower who called this region home for more than 20 years, lost a short but valiant fight with leukemia on Friday morning (July 16, 1999) at Genesee Hospital in Rochester. He was 60. A native Texan, August earned bachelor's degrees in physics, mathematics and aerospace engineering, as well as a master's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Texas in Austin. After working in the aerospace industry and as a university teacher, he chose to combine his scientific skills with artistic expression at the Rochester Folk Art Guild in Middlesex, where he lived and worked as a glassblower for more than 12 years. He later built his own glass studio in Rushville, with his wife Martha, and was a familiar face at many arts and crafts events in the Rochester area. His work was display and collected throughout the country. August, an accomplished pianist, had a lifelong love of and played several instruments well. He continued to perfect his favorite piano pieces until before his death. He is survived by his wife Martha Wemett Hueter of Rushville; his father, Frank August Hueter Sr.; brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Pat Heuter; sister and brother-in-law, Corrine and James Stanley, all of Texas; daughter Leecia Manning of New York City; and two nephews and four nieces, all of Texas.

Jacobs, Harold - Harold Jacobs, 86, of Newark, died Tuesday, July 1, 1999. Harold had worked as a day engineer for Garlock in Palmyra, retiring in 1972. Interment will be at East Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by his friends, Betty and Edward Buttaccio; and several other relatives. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, on Feb. 28, 1986.

Hurley, Walter J. - Walter J. Hurley, 76, of Sodus, died July 18, 1999, peacefully at his home. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Shirley; his daughters, Joan of Sodus and Margaret (Jim) Milella of Seneca Falls; son, Jim of Sodus; his grandchildren, Lindsey, Samantha, James Jr., Kaitlin, Tracy, Lacy, Michellen and Jamie; his sister, Edna Wunder of Lyons; 2 sisters-in-law, Kathryn Hurley of Newark and Mary Higgins of Seneca Falls; many nieces and nephews. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons.

Schutt, Harold L. - Harold L. Schutt, 74, of Clifton Springs, died Saturday, July 17, 1999 at his home after a long illness. Mr. Schutt was born April 14, 1925, in Canandaigua, son of Alonzo and Maude Smith Schutt. A lifelong resident of Canandaigua, he attended rural schools as well as Canandaigua Academy. He was a member of the N.Y. State Holstein Association, and was active with his family showing dairy cattle at many county fairs as well as the New York State Fair, In 1991, Mr. Schutt retired after 50 years of farming. Interment in Brookside Cemetery in Shortsville. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beth McFarlin Schutt; a brother, Adelbert Schutt of Canandaigua; his daughter, Linda Schutt of Canandaigua; his son, H. Lee Schutt of Hopewell; his five grandchildren, Jason Mark of Hopewell, Todd Schutt of Geneva, Aaron Mark of Canandaigua and Rachel and Brian Schutt of Newark; and several nieces, nepnews and cousins.

Chaffee, Dorothy Brown - Dorothy Brown Chaffee, 84, of Burtis Point, Owasco, died peacefully on Friday, July 16, 1999 at Auburn Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 26, 1915, the daughter of Ina P. and Dr. Mortimer G. Brown of Syracuse. A 1936 graduate of Wheelock College, she married Richard B. Chaffee (deceased October 1, 1985) on June 29, 1937, and lived in Newark, NY until 1961. After teaching nursery school at Far Hills Country Day School in New Jersey, she retired to Owasco Lake in 1975. She was formerly a member of the Owasco Country Club and an avid bridge player. She is survived by her two sons, Richard B. Chaffee Jr. (Pamela) of Auburn, and Robert B. Chaffee (Marcia) of Boston; daughter, Jane C. Riggs (David) of Boca Raton, FL; seven grandchildren, Jonah and Karen Chaffee, Peter C. Riggs, and Perry, Chandra, Charity, and Preston Chaffee;sister, Eleanor B. Steele (John A.) of Tampa, FL and Skaneateles; several nieces and nephews; and Uno, her loving dog and faithful companion for many years.

Bostwick, Janette Smith - Janette Smith Bostwick, 90, formerly of Prospect Street, died Monday, July 19, 1999 at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark Campus. Mrs. Bostwick was born Oct. 5, 1908, in Newark, daughter of Ernest and Gertrude Kelley Smith. She was a member of the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital Auxiliary. Janette was the widow of John Bostwick. She is survived by two sons, Bryson Randolph of Tennessee and David Randolph of California; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Interment in the East Newark Cemetery, Vienna Street, Newark.

House, William R. Jr. - William R. House Jr., 72, of Lyons, died July 5, 1999, at home surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness. William was born Feb. 1, 1927, in Chicago, IL, son of William House Sr. and Mercedes Williams. Bill was a member of the Lyons High School Class of 1944, where he had served as class president. Following graduation, Bill enlisted into the U.S. Navy, where he served until the end of World War II. After the military service, Bill attended and graduated from Cornell University and then attended the University of Rochester for his graduate degree. He was a retired teacher from the Lyons Central School System, a former member of the Lyons Board of Education, owner and operator of the House of Photography in Macedon and had served as an alcoholism counselor at FLACRA from 1991 to 1999. In addition, Bill held membership in Phi Kappa Psi, the National Teachers Association, the NYS Professional Photographers Association, the V.F.W, and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean; sons, William L. of Macedon, Ronald J. of Willsboro, NY, Robert D. of Lyons and Richard R. of Newark; 10 grandchildren; sister, Suzanne Millan of Oregon; and many other loving family members and friends.

Curtin, Mary - Mary Curtin of Newark, 88, died Friday, July 9, 1999, at the Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. Mrs. Curtin was born May 8, 1911, in Scranton, PA, daughter of Luke and Anna Pliska Smarz. She moved to the Newark area in 1991 from Bergenfield, NJ, where she had been active in the Methodist Church, as past president of its women's circle and a choir member. She had been an active supporter and volunteer of the Boy Scouts of America, along with several other community groups. Mrs. Curtin was interested in horticulture. She was also a golf enthusiast and enjoyed playing the piano. She is survived by two sons, Michael D. Curtin of Upland, CA, and Gregory J. Curtin of Newark; two daughters-in-law, Mary E. Curtin of Upland, CA, and Jean Curtin of Palmyra; four grandchildren, Lisa and Michael Curtin of Newark, Becky Richardson of Lake Elsinoe, CA, and Laura Duncan of La Crescenta, CA; two great-grandchildren, Sean Richardson and Kathryn Duncan; three brothers, Frank (Mary) Smashe of East Greenwich, RI, Stephen (Rose) Smashe of Rochester and George Smarz of Pleasant Mount, PA; sister-in-law, Verna Smashe; nieces and nephews, Sharon, Sandra, Shane, John and Paul Smashe, Barbara Davis and Vicky Smarz. She was predeceased by husband, Michael, in 1986.

Benitez, Candido S. - Candido S. Benitez, 70, of East Miller Street in Newark, died on Monday, July 12, 1999, at Clifton Springs Hospital. Candido was born Dec. 8, 1928, in Guarbo, Puerto Rico, son of Juan and Petrona Benitez Sanchez. He retired after 22 years of service with Mobil Chemical Company. Interment in Guarbo, Puerto Rico. He is survived by his two nieces, Pilar Crespo of Newark and Juanita Vega of Puerto Rico; nephew, Jose Sanchez of Newark; other nieces and nephews in Puerto Rico; great-nieces and great-nephews; and close friends, the Juan Miranda family of Newark.

Davis, Nancy M. - Nancy M. Davis, 70, of Columbia Street, Clyde, died July 13, 1999 at her home. Nancy was born Dec. 7, 1928, in Selinsgrove, PA, daughter of Joseph and Lydia Arbogast Roush. In her earlier years, she worked at the Newark Developmental Center, the Wayne County Home and was a nurse's aide at the V.A. Hospital in Lebanon, PA. She had lived in Clyde for 10 years. Interment in Winfield Cemetery in Winfield, PA. She is survived by her husband, John D. Davis of Clyde; two sons, John Scott (Sharon M.) of Clyde and Michael Steven (Debbie) of Lebanon, PA; daughter, Donna (Ed) McEvoy of Newark; her mother, Lydia E. Roush of St. Petersburg, FL; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Ray Roush of St. Petersburg, FL; a niece and two nephews.

Scoff, Dorothy - Dorothy Scoff, 61, of Walworth, died July 10, 1999. Loving mother and wife of 43 years, she is survived by her husband, Walter Scoff; daughter, Nancy (Eric) Allman, of Williamson; three sons, Walter (Ellen) of Lyons, Charles (Tamara) of Walworth, Randy (Mary) of Sodus; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; brother, John Boheen of Mendon Center; sister, Carol (Kenneth) Pederson of Rochester; nieces and nephews.

Bedette, Leonard K. - Leonard Karl Bedette, 89, died July 5, 1999 at the Elm Manor Nursing Home in Canandaigua. Mr. Bedette was born Sept. 9, 1909, in Manchester, son of Henry and Mary Govenor Bedette. He owned and operated the Bedette Farm and worked at Newark Developmental Center for 15 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Port Gibson United Methodist Church. Interment, Palmyra Cemetery. Beal, Shirley N. - Shirley N. Beal, 76, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at Via Health of Wayne-Newark. Mrs. Beal was born Aug. 17, 1922, in South Butler, daughter of Ernest and Helen Sweeting Dratt. She was a devoted wife and mother, and a member of the Macedon Center United Methodist Church. Interment in Macedon Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Arthur I. Beal; sons, Brian (Sandy) Beal of Newark and Bruce (Wanda) Beal of Sodus; daughters, Sandra (Freeman) Hunt of Macedon, Anita (Wesley) Sargent of Marion, and Debbie (Richard) Jackson of Macedon; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandson; and many cousins. She was predeceased by her two granddaughters, Lisa Hunt in 1990; and Heather Ippolito in 1998.

Interment in Rest Haven Cemetery, Phelps.He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ainsworth Stryker; daughters, Shirley Baker and Judith (James) Benge and son, Lawrence, all of Newark; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Marie Stillman of Fl, and Edna Carl Baker of MI; brothers, James (Ruth) of Webster, Harold (Shirley) of Victor, Donald (Judy) of VA, Lewis (Ruth) of Victor; and 22 nieces and nephews.

Sergeant, Evelyn C. - Evelyn Sergeant, 79, formerly of Sodus, died at Wesley Gardens July 5, 1999.Mrs. Sergeant was predeceased by her husband, Verne in 1986. She is survived by her sons, William (Sandy) of Walworth, David (Linda) of Sodus; brother, Roger Eastley of FL; six grandchildren; nieces, nephews.

Young, Fred - Fred Young, 78, of Orange City, FL, died July 3, 1999, in Deland, FL. A Florida resident for the past 16 years, he was a retiree from New Castle. He served in World War II with the US Army Air Corp, and was a member of the American Legion in Orange City, FL, and the Calvary Grace Brethren Church in Deltona, FL. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Faith Young; daughters, Sharon Lamb of Pierson, FL, and Dawn Young of Deland, FL; six grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Caroline Young of Orange City, FL, Pauline Adsitt of Lakeland, FL and Jean Hughes of Williamson; brother, Donald Young of Newark.

Pulver, William Frederick - William Frederick Pulver, 87, of Stuart Ave., Newark died July 2, 1999, at Via Health of Wayne. Bill was born in Newark on February 26, 1912 to William and Matie Eyer Pulver. He was a carpenter for Davis Fetch Co. in Rochester, retiring in 1977. He also did self-employed trucking and was a pilot. He was a member of Journeyman Local No. 85 of Rochester. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Air Force. He was a member of Arcadia Memorial Post VFW 2883; and August Mauer Post 286 of The American Legion of Newark. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery with full military rites. He is survived by two sons, William P. Pulver of Newark and Howard DeRue of Newark; grandson, William Emory Pulver; brother, Russell (Irene) Pulver of Newark; three sisters, Mabel Costello of Brighton, Matie Lehn of Lyons, and Adele Siers of Howell, NJ; mother-in-law Ruth Artlip of Newark; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Blanche in 1994; and his brothers, Henry, Lester, Edmond, Carlton, and Dayton Pulver.
