Death Notices          July - Sept. '00

Gaines, Carolyn Marie - Carolyn Marie Gaines was born April 10, 1959 to Richard and Theadora Abbate Gaines. Carolyn graduated from Newark High School in 1977 and was a sophomore at Oswego State College when she died suddenly at age 19 on December 27, 1978. A private burial took place at East Newark Cemetery. Carolyn is survived by her parents, Richard and Theadora Gaines; her sisters Janet (Paul) DeMyer and Jacqueline (Mark) Metzger; her maternal grandmother Rose Abbate; her niece Marissa; several aunts and uncles. 

Withey, Merle Sr. - Merle K. Withey, Sr., 67, of Newark, died September 29, 2000 at his home. Merle was born to Louis and Velda VanTassle Withey in Penn Yan on June 10, 1937. He had worked at Garlock Corp. in Palmyra for 20 years and recently for the Village of Newark. Merle is survived by his sons, Merle K. (Michelle) Withey Jr. and Todd Withey, both of Tennessee; daughters, Hilda (Matthew) Smith of California and Jennifer Withey of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; his father, Louis Withey of Seneca Manor Nursing Home; brothers, Donald (Dawn) Withey of Phelps and Keith (Wanda) of Dresden; sister, Jeannine Dutcher of Phelps and Caroline (Herbert) Williams of CA; several nieces and nephews. Interment is in East Newark Cemetery. 

DeLue, Elmer - Elmer J. DeLue, 68, of Grafton, New Hampshire, formerly of Marion, died September 20, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Jane Overman DeLue; mother, Hildagard DeLue of Marion; stepson, Robert W. Peterson of Manistee, MI; sister, Janis (Alan) Skadan of Williamson; brother, Paul (Barbra) DeLue of Marion; sister-in-law, Barbara DeLue of Palmyra; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. Elmer was predeceased by father, Elmer, Sr. and brother, Donald DeLue. 

Walpole, Louise - Louise Hughes Walpole, of Salt Lake City, died September 30, 2000 with her family by her side. Born Florence Louise Hughes in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 15, 1915, she was fifth of six children born to Francis and Elizabeth Hughes. Louise was an active member of Salt Lake City society. She married Robert Walpole, Jr. in Winnetka, Illinois and would eventually reside in BrynMar, PA; Louisville, KY; San Carlos, Orinda and Palos Verdes California; Wellsville, NY; and Ellenton, FL. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Louise volunteered countless hours of her time and energy helping to make this world a better place. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Bob and Janet Walpole of Newark; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Perkins of McKinney, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Liz and Derek Brown of Woodinville, WA; and six grandchildren. 

Dulmage, Calvin - Calvin George Dulmage, 81, of Newark died September 28, 2000 at the DeMay Living Center. He was born August 26, 1919 to Edward and Agnes Quackenbush Dulmage in Newton Falls. He retired from Xerox Corp. in Webster, where he was an inspector. Mr. Dulmage was a life member of the Elks Lodge in Newark. He was Boy Scout Commissioner of the Iroquois District and one of the founders of the Horn Farm Camp in Sodus. He was a WWII Army veteran. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. Mr. Dulmage is survived by his sons, Donald (Beverly) Dulmage of Macedon, James (Bette) Dulmage of Fairport, Ron (Susan) Dulmage of Newark; daughter, Joan Dulmage of Syracuse; grandchildren, Michael, Julie, Shana, Raga, Staci and Molly; brother, Robert (Jackie) Dulmage of Canandaigua; sisters, Evelyn (Palms) Dudley of Sodus Point and Hazel VanHall of Marion; special friend, Ella Clingerman; nieces and nephews. Mr. Dulmage was predeceased by his wife Charlotte Ransley Dulmage, on July 25, 1997.

Laufer, Joseph - Joseph Philip Laufer, 80, of Clifton Springs, died September 27, 2000. Joe was born December 25, 1919 in Buffalo, to Berthold and Josephine Kiefer Laufer. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his brother Philip Laufer of Ohio; nieces and nephews and friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO. He was predeceased by his sisters Marie Chimera in 1930 and Rose Sykes in 1974, and his brother Berthold Laufer Jr. in 1964.

Kuhlman, John - John A. Kuhlman, 62, died September 26, 2000 in Somerset, KY. John was born June 20, 1938 in Rockwood, PA to the late Russell G. and Ada R. Kuhlman. He worked for many years at the Newark Developmental Center and also as a machine operator at HiStat Manufacturing in Lexington, Ohio. He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Kuhlman of Norfolk, VA and Vicki (Robert) Mounce of Somerset, KY; his ex-wife, Mary Jane Kuhlman of Somerset; brother, Richard E. Kuhlman of California; three sisters: Kay (Earl) Nedrow of Lexington, Ohio; Patricia (Dan) Levingston of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; Lee Meyers of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Russell D. Kuhlman; and nieces, Debra Kuhlman-Baker of South Butler and Linda Levingston of Bellville, Ohio.

Kaller, Jane - Jane L. Kaller, 68, of Lyons, died September 28, 2000 at ViaHealth Newark. Jane was born March 12, 1932, in Seneca Falls, to Joseph and Florence Dickinson Conlin. She was employed at the Newark Developmental Center in food service. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Philip F. Kaller; children, Richard (Elaine) Narmand of Virginia, Joseph (Judy) Narmand of Fairport, Julie (Robin) Church of Addison, Jane (Bob) Davies of Florida and Robert Caster of Waterloo; stepchildren, Cindy (Rick Fisher) Pangburn of Lyons, and Jeff Kaller of Lyons; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edwards, Donald - Donald Edwards Jr., 64, died Sept. 27, 2000 at Rochester General Hospital. Donald had served in the Marine Corps from 1953-56 and had retired after working 26 years from Wegmans in Newark. Entombment with full military honors at the Mausoleum in St. John's Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Donald) Gary of Clyde; a son, Tommy (Wende) Edwards of Clyde; brothers, Ronald Edwards of Seneca Falls and Dennis Edwards of Syracuse; sister, Sandra Huem of Minnesota; grandchildren, Braydon and Brielle Edwards, Gage Lafler and Tyler Gary; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald Edwards Sr. and Frances DaPolito Bartley.

Marchioli, Mary - Mary A. Marchioli, 100 of Bartle Ave., died September 28, 2000 at ViaHealth Newark. Mrs. Marchioli was born October 16, 1899, in Patterson, NJ, to Lawrence and Anna Godino Demarco. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and member of its Rosary and Altar Society and the Legion of Mary. Mrs. Marchioli is survived by her daughter, Anna Behan of San Leandra, CA; brother, Frank (Josephine) DeMarco of Clifton Springs; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Luigi; a son, Nicholas; a grandson; two sisters, Louise Brill, and Margare Demarco; and three brothers Nuntz, Coste, and Daniel De Marco.

Palmer, Dorothy - Dorothy S. Palmer, 85, of Newark, died September 30, 2000 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Dorothy was born Feb. 18, 1915 in Hannibal, to William and Mary Knapp Shaver. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Newark State School for 20 years. Interment in Rose Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Henry W. Palmer Jr.; three daughters, Betty Washburn of Rose, Shirley Laurette of Newark, Nancy (Donald) Facer of PA; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, George William Leaird, in 1983.

LeClair, Charles - Charles R. 'Dick' LeClair of Macedon, 57, died September 28, 2000. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Edrys (Hegeman) LeClair; his mother-inlaw, Berenice L. Hegeman of Phelps; 2 brothers-in-law, John Hegeman of Elmira and his former wife, Donna Hegeman of Clifton Springs, Robert (Martha) Hegeman of Newark; nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

Bastian, Doris - Doris E. Bastian, 91, of Lakes Corners Road, Rose, died at Pines of Peace Comfort Care Home in Ontario on Sept. 24, 2000. Doris was born Nov. 14, 1908 to Joseph and Martha VanNess Matthews in the Town of Galen. She retired from Newark Developmental Center as an attendant and care giver. She was a member of the Rose United Methodist Church, CSEA, New York State and Clyde Grange, and the Top of the Hill Retirees Club. Interment in the Rose Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters, Eleanor Tellier of Rose, Jean (Donald) Eygnor of North Rose and Virginia Thorn of Rose; daughter-in-law Jane C. Bastian of Williamson; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford, in 1953; two sons in 1997, David and Robert; grandson, Clifford II; three brothers; and four sisters.

Garen, George - George B. Garen, 90, died Sept. 23, 2000 at the Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. He was born Sept. 23, 1910 in Charlotte, VT, the son of Charles and Lucy Sherman Garen. He had worked for 32 years at United Technology in East Hartford, CT, retiring in 1972 as a general foreman. George was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Newington, CT. In 1995, he moved to Newark, where he was a communicant of St. Michael Church. Interment in Newark Cemetery.He is survived by his wife, Helen De Coursey Garen of Sodus; two sons, George R. (Shirley) of Enfield, CT, and James (Judith) of Newark; daughter, Kathleen (Dr. Jose) Yap of Youngstown, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ivan Garen of East Hartford, CT. He was predeceased by his parents; a grandson, Michael Garen; and two sisters, Mildred Cross and Marion Duffy.

VanHall, Diane - Diane VanHall, 53, of Marion, died September 24, 2000, at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. She was born January 27, 1947 and had been a homemaker. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Couperus of Rochester; son, Chad (Cathy) Couperus of Buffalo; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Sarah; sister, Loretta (Gary) Hookstra of Sodus, 2 nephews, 1 niece; special friend and companion Les Hazard. She was predeceased by her parents, Marvin and Lillian VanHall.

Wilson, Frederick - Frederick C. Wilson, 63, of Red Creek, formerly of Marion, died Setember 25, 2000. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and a retiree from Mobil Chemical Co., Macedon. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Pultneyville. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Wilson; sons, Timothy (Arla) Wilson of Marion, Randolph (Gina Fratto) Wilson of Marion, Lesley LaBar of Red Creek, Frederick (Michelle) LaBar of VA; daughter, Tina Posada of Maryland; five grandchildren; and his mother, Ida M. Goodwin of Ontario.

Lockner, Earl - Earl A. Lockner, 92, of Newark, died September 16, 2000, at ViaHealth of Wayne. Earl was born Oct. 1, 1907 in Elmira, the son of August and Olive Lockner. He was the manager of Bern Furniture in Newark from 1950-93. He was a member of the Newark Rotary and an active bowler, where he sponsored 'Earl's Pearls' bowling team for Bern Furniture. He was a long-time member of the Newark Zoning Board of Appeals and the Newark Chamber of Commerce. He also served in the Army during World War II as a Master Sergeant in the 74th Medical Battalion. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Cooke Lockner; daughter, Diane Lockner of Larkspur, CO; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Jim Schirmer in 1994.

Artlip, Ruth - Ruth E. Artlip, 98, of Newark, died September 21, 2000 at the DeMay Living Center. Ruth was born July 24, 1902 in Lyons, the daughter of William and Louisa Harding Trumbull. She retired from the A&P in Newark and worked for 20 years at Wayne Drugs in the Newark Plaza. She was a member of Silver Link Rebekah Lodge and the Meat Cutters Union of A&P. Interment is in Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by five grandsons, Howard DeRue and William Pulver of Newark, Dave Crane of Penfield, John Crane of Newark and Tom Crane of Palmyra; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and son-in-law, David Crane of Marion. She was predeceased by her husband, Emory in 1960; daughters, Jane Crane in 1993, Blanche Pulver in 1994; and her son-in-law, William Pulver in 1999.

Claeysen, Neva - Neva M. Claeysen, 87, of Marion, died September 22, 2000. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She is survuved by her son, Nelson (Susan); two grandchildren, Michael and Jeanette Claeysen all of Marion; brother, Elwyn VanEnwyck of Newark; sister-in-law, Mildred Claeysen of Marion. She was predeceased by her husband, Cornell.

Gent, Susie - Susie V. Gent, 93, of Sodus, died September 21, 2000, at the Wayne County Nursing Home. She is survived by granddaughters, Cheryl (Rick) Condon and Amy (Dale) Toye; five great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Carol Gent; and sister-in-law, Jane VandeVoorde. She was predeceased by husband, William and son, Robert.

D'anunzio, Michael - Michael D'anunzio, 40, of North Rose, died September 22, 2000 at Rochester General Hospital. Mike was the son of Dunzio and Ruth Doll D'anunzio, born December 1, 1959 in Rochester. Interment at Riverside Cemetery in Rochester. Mike is survived by his parents of North Fort Myers, Florida; brothers, David of Rochester and Wayne (Elizabeth) D'anunzio of Florida; sister, Tina (William) Lees of Florida; nieces and nephews, and friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO.

Johnson, Lucy - Lucy M. Johnson, 76, of Newark, died September 26, 2000 at the Via Health of Newark. She was born August 23, 1924 in Clifton Springs, the daughter of Peter and Emily Cocquit Mesleyn. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and, for many years, was active in the Girl Scouts. Interment in Fairville Cemetery. Lucy is survived by her husband of 56 years, James R. Johnson, four daughters, Joan (Edward) Gullo, Joyce (Donald) Lester, Jean (Robert) Fisher and Jane (Joseph) Monahan and a son, James P. (Sue Ellen), all of Newark; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two sisters, Emma Fisher of Rochester and Lena Maslyn of Newark; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; a son, Robert; two grandchildren; two sisters, Serlina Mander and Mary Mesleyn; three brothers, William Mesleyn, Carl Maslyn and Edward Maslyn.

Zaborowski, Hattie (Urbanik) - Hattie (Urbanik) Zaborowski, 93, of Newark and Sodus, died September 26, 2000. Interment in Furnaceville Cemetery, Ontairo. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley H. Zaborowski, in 1986, and is survived by daughters, Lucy Johnson of Palmyra, Eleanor (Leo) Baker of Newark; sons, Edward Zaborowski of Williamson, Raymond (Mary) Zaborowski of SC, and Stanley (Gladys) Zaborowski of Newark; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Lottie Scrooby of Marion, Stella VanDeViere of Ontario, Genevieve VerStraete of Ontario; several nieces and nephews.

VanCleef, Martin - Martin W. VanCleef, 65, of Clifton Springs, died September 26, 2000. Marty was born July 18, 1935 in Seneca Falls, to William and Eleanor Bennett VanCleef. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 457, the Ontario County Sons of the American Legion, the 7th District Sons of the American Legion and the DEC Sons of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Phelps Volunteer Fire Dept. Interment in Resthaven Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Sharon VanCleef; daughters, Tammy (Michael) Beevers of Belton, Texas and Brenda VanCleef of Missouri; special friends, Chris Knapp and Beth Coon; mother, Eleanor VanCleef; brothers, Gail (Linda) VanCleef of Newark, William (Judy) VanCleef of Holly Hills, FL and Clinton VanCleef of Newark; sisters, Eleanor Updyke of Seneca Falls; five grandchildren.

Hunt, Mary - Mary H. Hunt, 76, of Alton, died September 26, 2000 at ViaHealth-Myers in Sodus. Interment in Baptist Rural Cemetery, Sodus Center. She is survived by her husband, Clyde; four children, Clyde M. III (Kimberly) of Red Creek, Betty Lou Hunt of Newark, Barbara Kay Hunt of Macedon, and Diana Lynn Hunt of Alton; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Illa Destilli of Florida, Wayne (Gloria) Morgan of Sodus Center, Fred (Ruby) Morgan of Alton, Mildred (Leonard) Stevens of Wolcott, Wanda Starczewski of North Rose, Catherine (Donald) Clark of Geneva, Charles (Fran) Morgan of South Carolina; nieces and nephews. Boyce, James - James A. 'Blue' Boyce, 74, died Sept. 15, 2000 at ViaHealth Newark.Interment in St. John's Cemetery, Clyde. Jim was born December 8, 1925 in Clyde, to Leroy and Rose Janto Boyce. He graduated from Clyde Central School in 1943 and entered the U.S. Army Air Force on February 16, 1944. He was a Staff Sergeant and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII. His service includes 33 combat missions over Iwo Jima and the Japanese mainland. He was awarded the Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the New York State Conspicuous Service Cross with One Cluster. Blue was discharged from active duty on Nov. 1, 1945 and continued to serve his country in the Army Reserves through October 1948. He was married to Regina Duell on Oct. 9, 1948 in St. John's Church in Clyde. Jim was employed by the U.S. Postal Service from 1948 until his retirement in 1984 serving as Postal Clerk, Supervisor, Officer in Charge and Postmaster at Clyde Post Office. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, was active in the reformation of the Clyde Ambulance Service, volunteered with the Clyde Fire Dept. Electric Hose Co., and the Auxiliary Police. Jim was a member and past president of the Clyde Rotary Club, where he served on the board of directors of Rotary's Camp Onseyawa.

Smith, Virginia St. Lawrence - Virginia St. Lawrence Smith, 75, died September 14, 2000 at her Newark home. Interment in Harrisville Cemetery. Virginia was born August 4, 1925 in Canton, to Karl and Blanche Todd Mayhew. She was a 1946 graduate of Potsdam State Teachers College and earned a Master in music education in 1954. She taught music for 27 years at Harrisville Central School retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Canton and was an avid bowler and golfer. Survived by her daughter Linda (Michael) Wright of Newark, sons Bruce (Judy) St. Lawrence of Middlesex and Gary (Vickey) St. Lawrence of Salisburg, NC; six grandchildren; three brothers; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Elwyn St. Lawrence and first husband John Smith; predeceased by two brothers. Interment in harrisville Cemetery.

Chappell, Deborah Jean - Deborah Jean Chappell, 47, of Sodus, died September 14, 2000 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Interment in Sodus Cemetery. Debbie was born September 24, 1953 in Clifton Springs, to Daniel A. and Nancy Wright Cooper. She is survived by daughter Bridget Chappell; son Travis Chappell; one granddaughter; one grandchild expected in February; father Daniel A. Cooper Jr. of Sodus; sisters Patty (John) LaMore and Christine (Nate) Cianciola both of Sodus; brothers Gary Cooper of Sodus and Jody (Kathy) Cooper of Newark; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Nancy Hill on May 26, 1996 and a brother Steven Cooper.

Ryan, Francis - Francis Peter Ryan, 76, of North Rose, died September 18, 2000 at Via Health Newark. Interment in the Marion Cemetery. Francis was born in Utica to James and Grace Swadling Ryan, on February 16, 1924. He was a self-employed carpenter. He is survived by his wife Edith Case Ryan; sons Sterling 'Charlie' Ryan of North Rose; Frank G. (Sally) Ryan of Clyde; and Kerry (Brenda) Ryan of Wolcott; his daughter Elaine (Robert) Meyers of Palmyra; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister Pearl Perez of Rose; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his great granddaughter Nicole, brothers George, Sterling and Vern, and sister Mary Blankenberg.

Engels, Mary J. - Mary J. Engels, 85, of LaFayette Road, Syracuse, died Sept. 15, 2000. Service were held at Sunnyside Cemetery in Williamson. She was born in Williamon, the daughter of Isaac Engels and Marie Taille. She retired after 35 years as a special education teacher in the East Syracuse-Minoa school district. She also was a teacher for Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES. She was a member for more than 20 years of the Pep Sisterhood, a philanthropic and cducational organization dcsigned to increase opportunities for women in higher education, and active in the Towpath Quilting Guild. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Caroline Engels of Newark.

Payne, Bernice - Bernice Payne, 77, of Newark, died September 18, 2000. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester. Bernice was born the daughter of of Frederick and Tessie Haight Payne on September 24, 1922 in Rochester. She is survived by her brother, Frederick Payne, of Auburn; sister, Irene Anheier of Florida; and friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO, Cobblestone Terrace.

King, Dale M. - Dale M. King, 68, of Newark, died September 19, 2000, at Rochester General Hospital. A funeral service will be held September 22, 2000 at 1 Interment in Huron Evergreen Cemetery. Dale was born the son of Joseph and Myrtle Murphy King on December 17, 1931 in Massena. He retired from Schlegel Manufacturing Co. in Rochester in 1990, where he had worked in the maintenance department. He is survived by his fiancee, Anna Walker of Newark; sons, Christopher King, George (Elaine) Blaisdell, Steve (Sherri) Walker and Larry Walker; daughters, Donna Taylor, Judy (Kenneth) Stevenson, Becky (Gary) Zehr, and Kim (Keith) Walker; grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; brother Carl (Arlene) King.

Behlau, R.I. - R.I. 'Dick' Behlau, 74, of Arlington, TX, died September 15, 2000. Interment in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Born April 3, 1926, he was a millwright for General Motors. He moved from Rochester in 1972 to Arlington, TX. A WWII veteran, he was a member of VFW Post 8561 and Moose Lodge 1818. Beman, Ronald Sr. - Ronald L. Beman Sr., 58, of Rt. 14 South, Lyons, died September 18, 2000. Ron was born June 26, 1942, in Newark, a son to Maurice D. and Blanche Case Beman, He was employed with Tallmadge Tire Service in Waterloo and was a past master of F&AM Lodge 406 and the Corning Consistory. He was also a life member of the North American Hunting Club, a member of the Lyons Fire Department, and Shriners of Rochester. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Ron is survived by his wife, Brenda; children, Ronald Jr. of Senecal Falls, Marie (Harold) Becker of Lyons, Bill of Lyons and Maury E. of Savannah; nine grandchildren; mother, Blanche Beman of Newark; brother, Thomas Sr. (Joyce) of Victory; sister, Joan Beman of Newark; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and many friends. He was predecased by his father, Maurice in 1998.

Perkins, Lisa - Lisa A. Perkins, 35, died September 17, 2000, at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Interment in St. John's Cemetery. Lisa was born on September 2, 1965 in Lyons, the daughter of Anthony and Rose Murtari Nicoletta. She was a 1983 graduate of Clyde-Savannah High School, and was a member of St. John's Church in Clyde. Lisa was married to Randy Perkins on July 23, 1999. She is survived by her husband Randy and daughter, Melissa Hartranft; parents, Anthony and Rose Nicoletta of Clyde; brothers, Ronald and Steve Nicoletta of Clyde; sisters, Denise (Eric) Johnson of CT, Paula (Walt) Coolbaugh of Weedsport, Elaine (Alan) Graham of Newark, and Debra (Ken) Williams of Savannah.

Everdyke, Elsie - Elsie Everdyke, 93, of Macedon, died September 7, 2000. She was a retired General Dynamics employee. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Laura Bueg of Arkansas and Arloa (George) Beadle of Palmyra; seven sons: Clifford (Joyce) of Victor; Norman (Virginia) of Macedon; Gordon (Joyce) of Florida; Leo (Audrey) of Farmington; Allen (Joan) of North Carolina; Loren of Florida; Morris (Sue) of Florida; 28 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard and a grandson, Timothy.

Kouwe, Peter J., Jr. - Peter J. Kouwe Jr., 87, of Port Orange, FL, formerly of Newark, died September 8, 2000 at the Hospice Care Center of Volusia County, FL. Born in Holland on May 15, 1913, Peter Kouwe moved to Wayne County as an infant and spent most of his adult life in Newark. He was a self-employed painter and decorator and later worked as a real estate salesman and broker. He relocated to Florida after he retired. He was a member of Park Presbyterian Church in Newark and later of the United Church of Christ in Port Orange. Mr. Kouwe is survived by his wife, Lena; sons, Richard (Jean) and Robert of Tampa, FL; daughters, Marcia (Larry) Brown of Newark and Maureen Kouwe of Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Christopher (Kelly) Brown, Holly (David) Kassan, Zachery, Andrew and Robert Kouwe; brothers, Linwood (Jackie) of Newark and Raymond of Titus, AL; sisters, Elizabeth DiGennaro of Scottsville and Marie (LaRue) Sitterly of Port Orange.

Woodworth, Caroline - Caroline 'The Cookie Lady' Woodworth, of Hogback Hill Road, Palmyra, died Sept. 10, 2000 at her home. Caroline's love of playing '42' and 'Aggravation' with many of her friends will be long remembered. Caroline made hundreds of cookies and pies at holiday time for her friends. Interment at South Farmington Cemetery. She is survived by her niece, Margaret Siler of Newark; four nephews, Clifford and Donald Mertz and Arthur Verbridge of Palmyra, and Arnold Deyo of Marion; and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Ellison; two sisters, Anna Deyo and Emily Mertz.

Kornbau, Scott - Scott M. 'Mel' Kornbau, 39, of Phelps, died September 11, 2000, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Scott was born Jan. 22, 1961, in Canandaigua, the son of the late Richard and Wilma Snyder Kornbau. Scott was an electrician and owned and operated Power Plus Electric. Interment in Orleans Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Susan; stepson, Jonathan; brothers, Robert (Lisa) Kornbau of Clifton Springs, Steven (Josette) Kornbau of Newark, and Donald (Laurie) Hiller of Clifton Springs; sister, Patricia (Alvin) Keller of Clifton Springs; 17 nieces and nephews.

Schultz, Beatrice - Beatrice W. Schultz, 89, of Newark, died September 12, 2000 at the DeMay Living Center. Mrs. Schultz was born on November 24, 1910 in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Gustov and Anna Ullrich Walters. She had been a secretary to the President of the Clover Hill Tennis Club in Millington, New Jersey, before returning to Marco Island, Florida. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Marco Island. She moved to the Newark area four years ago to be near her son. She is survived by her son, Ed (Mickey) Schultz of Dundee; two grandhildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger Schultz on October 20, 1998.

DeBryne, Peter - Peter DeBryne, 68, of Marion, died September 12, 2000. He was a retiree from Gleason Works in Rochester. Interment in the Marion Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Whitcomb) DeBryne; daughter, Tammy (Frank) Saeva of Mumford; sons, John DeBryne of Williamson, Jeff (Tristine) DeBryne of Webster; two grandchildren; three sisters, Esther, Phyllis, Darlene; brother, Roy; nieces and nephews.

Colacino, Anthony F. - Anthony F. 'Tony' Colacino has died at the age of 101. The former Newark businessman and musician died September 3, 2000 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Tony was born November 17, 1898 in Tiriolo, Italy, the son of Thomas Raffaele and Mary Gravino Colacino. He came to Newark in 1901 and lived in a house on the towpath of the Erie Canal. In 1906 Tony moved with his family to California seeking higher wages. Two months after they arrived in California, the San Francisco earthquake all but destroyed the city. They boarded a train and returned to Newark, this time for good. Tony owned and operated Newark Sign Services, from which he retired as a sign painter at age 85. He was instrumental in the forming of the Rose City Ensemble in 1938 and was an active member until it disbanded in 1981. He served as director when the ensemble performed annually at the Jackson and Perkins Rose Gardens. In 1964 and 1965 Tony and his ensemble traveled to New York City where they were invited to sing in the New York State Pavilion at the World's Fair. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and for many years active in its choir. Tony was a 75-year member of the Newark Elks Lodge and a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Newark Council #897. He is survived by one brother, Michael Colacino of Sebastian, FL, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Joseph T. Colacino, and three sisters Rose Lagana, Anna De Polo, and Angeline De Marco.

Rivers, Stephanie L. - Stephanie L. Rivers, 43, of Geneva, formerly of Newark, died August 31, 2000 at the Geneva General Hospital. She was born August 15, 1957, in Sanford, FL, the daughter of George and Rona Mae Lane Cole. She had worked for CASH Inc. in Lyons and headed the Section 8 Program for CASH. She was a graduate of Newark High School and received her associate's degree in criminal justice from Finger Lakes Community College. She was also a professional artist and lived most of her life in Newark, living in Geneva the last 14 years. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, George; one son, Justin; one daughter, Shannon, all of Geneva; two sisters; two brothers; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Barber, Deven Ramzelle Murray - Baby boy Deven Ramzelle Murray Barber died August 29, 2000 at ViaHealth of Wayne. Interment, Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his mother and father, Aleah Murray and Joshua Barber, his maternal grandparents, Anna Murray and Willie Cooper; his paternal grandparents, Doreen Henderson and Curtis Barber; and three uncles.

O'Connor, Mary - Mary F. O'Connor, 73, of Wolcott, died August 30, 2000 at ViaHealth in Sodus. Mary was born to Hugo Loose and Isabelle O'Connor on April 19, 1927 in Lackawanna, New York. She enjoyed taking pictures, and many of her photos were on display at the funeral home. Interment in Huron Evergreen Cemetery. Mary is survived by many friends, including a special friend Conrade Horne.

Buisch, Anna - Anna Victoria Chalupa Buisch, 73, of Lyons, died September 2, 2000 at Geneva General Hospital. Anna was born in Lyons on June 1, 1927, a daughter to Frederick and Margaret Graham Chalupa. She was employed by the Lyons Central School District and was a past member of the Grange, Home Bureau, Altruists, was a Knox Class 4-H leader, Sunday School superintendent, and she taught in the Protestant release time education in Lyons. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. Surviving are her children: Charles (Jane) of Lyons, Carol (John) Spellman of Savannah, James (Janet) of Woodville, Jeanette (Larry) Lake of Lyons, Stephen (Jeanna) of Lyons, Stuart (Laura) of Newark; 18 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul T. Buisch in 1982 and a brother, Frederick Chalupa.

McCord, Felicia - Felicia J. McCord, 60, of Newark, died September 3, 2000. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery. Felicia is survived by her children, Peter (Jennifer) McCord, Christine LaClair and Coleen (Jeffrey) DeGroat; four grandchildren; brother, James (Barbara) VanBortel of IL; sister, Muriel (Raymond) White of FL; sister-in-law, Dorothy VanBortel; several cousins and nephews and friends at the Eastview Dialysis Center in Victor. Felicia was predeceased by her parents, Peter Marvin and Margaret VanBortel and by her brother, Francis (Bud) VanBortel.

Beal, Arthur - Arthur I. Beal, 80, of Newark, a resident of Wayne County Nursing Home, died September 1, 2000, at Via Health of Wayne in Newark. Art was born to Harry and Emma Miller Beal on April 23, 1920 in Lyons. He retired from Mobil Chemical Co. in Macedon. He was a member of the Macedon Center United Methodist Church and the Palmyra American Legion past 6778. The funeral home flew the Air Force Flag in honor of Art's service to America during World War II. Interment in Macedon Cemetery. Art is survived by his sons: Brian (Sandy) Beal of Newark and Bruce (Wanda) Beal of Sodus; daughters Sandra (Freeman) Hunt of Macedon, Anita (Wesley) Sargent of Marion, Debbie (Richard) Jackson of Farmington; 23 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; survived by brothers Roy (Helen) Beal of Lyons and Lester Beal of Newark; brother-in-law Robert Noble of Clyde; sisters-in-law Helen Beal of Lyons and Henrietta Beal of Rochester; nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his wife Shirley N. Beal on July 3, 1999; granddaughters Lisa Hunt in 1990 and Heather Ippolito in 1998; brothers Kenneth, Earl and Harvey; sisters Lila Noble and Helen Gansz.

Priebe, Jack - Jack E. Priebe, 79, of Newark, died September 2, 2000, at the Syracuse Veterans Administration Hospital. Jack was born June 27, 1921 in Fulton, the son of Charles and Florence Peckham Priebe. He had been an assistant manager for the A&P grocery store in Newark until 1968. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946 and a member of the Arcadia Memorial Post #2883 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Paralyzed Veterans Association. He is survived by his children: Gary (Nancy) Colgrove of Clifton Springs, Jack Priebe, Sandra Jones, David Priebe, and Steven Priebe all of Newark; five grandchildren; four brothers, Charles and Richard of FL, Carl of Phelps and Paul of Newark; four sisters, Helen Lindstrom of NC, Elsie Wagner of Palmyra, Lorraine Hause of Newark and Ann Dean of FL; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Florence Plyter and Dorothy Custer.

Fries, Donald, Sr. - Donald D. Fries, Sr., 68, of Newark, died September 4, 2000, at his home. Mr. Fries was born August 5, 1932 in Auburn, the son of Elmer and Lena Dashney Fries. He had worked for NY Telephone Co. as a cable technician for 35 years, retiring in 1991. Don was a member of the Arcadia Memorial Post #2883 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Newark Masonic Lodge #83. He served in the Army in Germany from 1952-54. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Mills Fries; children Donald (Mary Ann) of Burnt Hills, Barbara Fries of Rochester, and Bruce (Michelle) of Marion; four grandchildren; brother Herbert (Betty) of Brewerton; special family friend Bonnie Overbagh of Rochester. Donald was predeceased by his parents Elmer and Lena Dashney Fries and a sister Delores Mae Davitt.

Tange, Frank - Frank Tange, 91, of Newark, died September 3, 2000, at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mr. Tange was born February 12, 1909 in Hopewell, KY, the son of Carl and Emma De Custer Tange. He had been a dairy farmer and worked for Jackson & Perkins Nursery. Mr. Tange retired in 1970 from the Newark Developmental Center. He was a member of St. Michael's Church. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. He is survived by his wife MaryKoekhuyt, a daughter Linda (Jack) Tucker of Centerville, Ohio; sons Richard (Barbara) of Piffard, and Michael (Robin) of Florence, SC; five grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Husner, Roy Earl - Roy Earl Husner, 76, of Lyons, died August 31, 2000, at ViaHealth in Newark. Roy was born in Galen, April 2, 1924, to Edward and Anna Lutz Husner. He was a mason for Griswold and Quagliata in Lyons. He served in the U.S. Marines, D Company, 1st Battalion, 24 Regiment, 4th Division. He was a member of the Purple Heart Club, the Marines Reserves, VFW Post No. #5092 and American Legion No. 227 of Lyons, Disabled Veterans and St. John's Lutheran Church. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery with full military rites accorded. He is survived by his wife, Bess Miller; two sons, John (Carol) of Aurora, CO and Samuel of Newark; daughter, Marie (Robert) Harford, stationed in Seoul, South Korea; five grandchildren; seven great-grandcholdren; five sisters, Bertha Baker of MO, Lillian Morey of FL, Dorothy (Bill) Keesler of Newark, Anna (Michael) Salerno of Lyons and Elizabeth (Russell) Moody of SC; three brothers, Carl of Montour Falls, George of Clyde, and Harry of Sodus; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Ernest, Edward Jr. and William; a son, Floyd Eugene and daughter, Laura Lee.

Mahar, Thelma - Thelma I. Mahar, 83, of Clifton Springs, formerly of Newark, died September 5, 2000 in the Clifton Springs Nursing Home. Thelma was born in Sterling on September 23, 1916, to William Sr. and Bessie Crane Farnham. Interment in the Butler-Savannah Cemetery. She is survived by her children: Betty Doscher of Newfield, Bessie Mahar of Newark, Sue Briggs of Rochester, Robert (Lori) of Penfield, Judy Sinack (Bill Benge) of Phelps; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Richardson of Syracuse; sister-in-law Rosalie Farnham of Fair Haven. Mrs. Mahar was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Abram in 1968, and by her brothers, William Jr., George and Frederick (Ted).

Lyon, Gladys - Gladys E. Tellier Lyon, 96, of Newark, died September 4, 2000 at the Clifton Springs Residential Health Care Facility. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark and was the eldest member of Richards Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, in Marion. She is survived by two daughters, Jean L. Ransley and her husband Harold of Sodus, and Betty L. Kraft and her husband Jack of Framingham, MA; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Wayne B. Lyon, in 1987.

Schetrompf, Elmer - Elmer E. Schetrompf, 74, of Lyons, died September 5, 2000, after an extended illness. Elmer was born Aug. 18,1926 in Little Orleans, PA, the son of Marshall and Inez Browning Schetrompf. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the VFW Post #5092 of Lyons. Interment at South Lyons Cemetery. He is survived by his children, Cy Freeman of Newark, Sharon Christensen of Florida, Fred Schetrompf of Lyons, Pamela Camacho of Williamson, Marsha Dutcher of Newark and Dora Lape of Geneva; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; six brothers, Marshall (Dale), Norman, Kenneth and Martin, all of Lyons, Ronald of Savannah and Joseph (Buck) of Geneva; two sisters, Olive Simmons and Margaret Lucia, both of Lyons; his companion, Sarah Reed; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Winifred in 1974; his second wife, Minnie Pauline, his sister, Melda; and two brothers, Albert and Orben.

Welcher, Edward A. - Edward A. Welcher, 82, of Clearwater, Florida, died August 19, 2000 at St. John's Hospital while on vacation in Springfield. He was born in Newark, a son of Earl and Maude Welcher. He is survived by wife, Ruby M. (Jones) Crawford, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Waverly, Illinois; one sister, Lila Parker, of Lyons; step-sons, Rudy and Dwaine Crawford of Clearwater; nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Quagliata, Patricia - Patricia M. Quagliata, 44, of League City, Texas, died Aug. 23, 2000 in Texas. Patricia was born in Newark on May 20, 1956, the daughter of Joseph and Sophie Yaskow Quagliata. She had lived in Texas for 20 years and worked as a nurse at Devereux Hospital. She was a graduate of Newark High School had attended St. Michael School. She had a great interest in porcelain and dolls and was active in 4-H and Grange. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery. She is survived by her mother, Sophie; two brothers, Terry J. (Kathy) of Brighton and David (Ellen) of Newark; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph, in 1989.

Avondale, Joseph Edward - Joseph Edward Avondale, 33, of Sodus and Newark, died suddenly in Gettysburg, PA on Aug. 26, 2000. Joseph was born July 14, 1967, in Waverly, the son of Dale and Ruth Sundloff Avondale. He grew up in Sayre, PA and was a mechanic at Toshiba in Horseheads, before relocating to this area in 1997. Joe was a batch technician with Mott's in Williamson and a part-time student at Monroe Community College. He was a member of the Arcadia Memorial Post 2883 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Newark, and previously had been a member of the Sayre Post 1536, VFW in Sayre, PA. He had served from 1985 to 1989 in the Marine and had been stationed in Beirut, Lebanon. Joe was an avid golfer, a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and he enjoyed softball and camping. Interment in the Newark Cemetery with full military honors. He is survived by his wife, Veronica Harmon Avondale of Sodus; stepchildren, Chettie Fontaine of Marion, Elisa (Michael Klemann) Fontaine of Newark; Jon Fontaine and Caleb Fontaine of Farmington; step-grandson, Desmond Hughes; his mother and stepfather, Ruth and Robert Abbott of Newark; maternal grandmother, Muriel Warner of Birch Run, Michigan; three sisters, Kathy (Al) Montgomery of Bartlett, Iowa, Theresa (Michael) Sovie of Alton, and Penny Abbott of Newark; stepbrother, Al Morgan of Sayre; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father, Dale J. Avondale and his stepfather, Guy W. French, Jr.

Vercruysse, Richard J. - Richard J. Vercruysse, 53, of Newark, died August 24, 2000, at Arbor Hill Nursing Home, Rochester. Dick was born Nov. 20, 1946 in Newark, the son of Peter and Eleanor Boyer Vercruysse. He was a glue machine operator for 27 years at Fold-Pak. He served in the Air Force. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Virginia Dale; three daughters, Alicia Vercruysse of Atlanta, GA; Shannon Shear, and Autumn Heather Vercruysse, both of Newark; five grandchildren, Joshua Pickering, Haley and Madeline Shear, and Larisa and Jacob P. Roedts; his mother, Eleanor Vercruysse; special friends, Peter and Janet Pellicano, Chris and Lisa Oakes, Rich and Judy, Mitch and Julie, Michele and Ian, Jennifer and Larry, Bob Hause, and Donald Blackman.

Lynn, Francis - Francis D. Lynn, 86, of Canandaigua, died August 29, 2000, at F.F. Thompson Hospital. Francis was born Sept. 28, 1911 in Geneva and was the son of the late Clinton and Margaret Driscoll Lynn. He had resided in Newark and Shortsville. He was a meat cutter at the Canandaigua V.A. Medical Center and had also been a security guard at the Finger Lakes Race track. He was a member of the Canandaigua Moose Club, the Elks Lodge and a member of the War Dads in Newark (an affiliate of the American Veterans Support Club and the VFW). Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Shirley (Ross) Lynn of Canandaigua; his sons Daniel and Duane Lynn of Manchester; his daughter Donna Woodhams of Manchester; a stop daughter Linda (Finnemore) Spargo of Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Hall, Elsie - Elsie Hall, 88 of Newark, died August 29, 2000 at Newark Via Health. Mrs. Hall was born the daughter of Frank and Mary Orbaker Martin on May 20, 1912 in Palmyra. She was a resident of Newark for 60 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark. Interment at Marion Cemetery. Elsie is survived by daughter Jean Olmstead of Newark; grandchildren Michelle (Gary) Carnevale of Farmington, Tim Olmstead his fiancee Kathleen Ely of Babylon, NY and Susan Olmstead of Queens; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lewis Hall, May 10, 1983; and by brothers John and Arthur Martin, sisters Grace Boerman and Edna VanBortel

DePotie, Dorothy - Dorothy A. DePotie, 90, of Clifton Springs, died August 29, 2000. Interment will be in North Carolina. Meade, Gerald R. - Gerald R. Meade, 81, died August 16, 2000 at his home, under HOSPICE Care. A Masonic service was held followed by an eulogy read by his son, Geffrey. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery in Lyons, with full military honors. Mr. Meade was born January 4, 1919 in Lyons, son to George and Pauline Vanderhoof Meade. He attended schools in Niagara Falls and Lyons. As a youth, he spent summrs in Lyons and the rest of the year in Niagara Falls. He married Winifred G. Neubauer in 1941 in Niagara Falls. He was a graduate of Kelly Business Institute, majoring in business administration. He was a veteran of the Army form 1941 to 1945 and retired from the Air Force, serving from 1947 to 1967. He was the past chairman of the Town of Lyons Planning Board, the past director of the Lyons Community Center, a past member of the Village of Lyons Variance Board, a past secretary of the Humanity Lodge 406, Free and Accepted Masons of Lyons, past president of the Lyons Rotary Club, past secretary and treasurer of the Wayne Hills Country Club, past president and chairman of the board for Meade Adjusting Service of Lyons, past president, secretary, treasurer and CEO of Elmwood Cemetery in Lyons and was a retired Lyons Village Justice. He is survived by his wife, Winifred; son, Geffrey (Marilyn); two granddaughters, Victoria and Leah; and two great-granddaughters, Danielle and Alivia. He was predeceased by his son, Lee.

DeGroff, Bethel - Bethel DeGroff, 77, of East Main Street in Palmyra, died August 16, 2000 at Newark ViaHealth. Interment in Lewis Cemetery in the town of Gramby. Bethel was born December 8, 1922, in Fulton, the daughter of Frank and Elsie Eick DeGroff. She had attended the ARC Day Program and had lived in the Catholic Charities Home in Lyons and at the Palmyra Community Residence for the last five years. She also was a member of the Palmyra Heritage Baptist Church. She is survived by three brothers, Howard of Hannibal, Frederick of Fulton and Charles of Montgomery, AL; one sister, Bertha DeGroff; nieces and nephews; and her friends at the Palmyra Community Residence.

Jagger, Christina M. - Christina M. Jagger, 55, of Chittenango, formerly of Newark, died August 18, 2000 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Christina taught English and Reading at the Morrisville/Eaton Central School for many years and was Director of Acquisitions and Development for Laubach Literacy International in Syracuse. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Karin Jagger and nephew, Charles Jagger of Sodus and several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Baldwin Jagger.

Valkenburgh, George - George Lewis Valkenburgh, 62, died August 18, 2000 at the DeMay Living Center, after fighting a long illness. George was born April 8, 1938 in Rochester, to Donald and Carol Schauman Valkenburgh. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1957 and earned degrees from the University of Rochester, and Berkley College in Pennsylvania. George was the proprietor of Vulcan Sales Group, which he founded in 1987. He was a member of Park Presbyterian Church, where he taught the high school Sunday School class. He received the Eagle Scout Award, and was a Boy Scout Assistant Club Master in Newark. He volunteered many hours at Park Place and for Meals on Wheels. George is survived by his loving wife, Lauren Suppes Valkenburgh, children Stacey and Rick, mother, Carol Schauman of Brighton, his sisters Gail Valkenburgh and Carol Fraser; also survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins, and special friends at Moore Place in the DeMay Living Center.

Schoonerman, Ruth - Ruth Shirley Schoonerman, formerly of Marion, died Aug. 17, 2000 in Canandaigua. Interment at Marion Cemetery. Ruth is survived by her husband, Gordon Schoonerman; son, Donald (Diane) Schoonerman; daughter, Sherry (Daniel) Verstreate; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Blankenberg, Harold - Harold G. Blankenberg, 81, of Palmyra, died August 21, 2000. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by his children, Gerald (Nancy) Blankenberg of VA, Donald (Theresa) Blankenberg of NC, Barbara (Michael) Roach of Clifton Park, Vickie Bliss of Newark; eight grandchildren; brother, Carl Blankenberg; sister, Marian McKeever; sisters-in-law, Grace Blankenberg, Beatrice Blankenberg; several nieces and nephews.

Madeline, James - James M. Madeline, 47 of Newark died August 19, 2000 at ViaHealth of Newark. Interment in the East Newark Cemetery. Jim was born in Rochester on March 10, 1953, to Louis and Eleanor Boyce Madeline. He is survived by his mother, Eleanor and step-father Charles Piccola of Florida; brothers, David (Cookie) Madeline and Luigi Piccola, both of Florida; sisters, Charmaine Freys of Colorado, Romona (James) White of Florida and Teena Davis of New Mexico; nieces and nephews. Jim will be missed by friends and staff at the Developmental Disabilities Service Office.

LaCoursiere, Alfred - Alfred LaCoursiere, 82, of Barefoot Bay, Florida, died July 24, 2000. Interment in Marion Cemetery. Fred was born August 22, 1917 in Worchester, MA. He went to Brevard County, FL 20 years ago from Sodus Point. He retired from Sears in Auburn, MA in 1979 after 26 years of employment. He was a WWII Army veteran, having served in Europe. His loving wife Helen LaCoursiere, formerly of Marion, survives him, as do his sons: Donald LaCoursiere of Shrewsbury, MA; Richard (Geri) Schul fo Chesterfield, MO; Thomas (Hope) Schul of Marion; daughter, Carole Hamelton of Shrewsbury; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Capalbo of Shrewsbury.

Martin, Mary V. - Mary VanGee Martin, 89, of Parker Road, Newark, died August 22, 2000 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Interment at East Palmyra Cemetery. Mrs. Martin was born the daughter of Isaac and Jennie Ameele VanGee on September 7, 1910 in Marion. She married the late Cornelius I. Martin, Jr. on March 8, 1934. Mrs. Martin is survived by her daughters, Janice (Raymond) Roloson of Waterloo and Marjorie (Kenneth) DeNering of Newark; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildrens; brother, Abram (Adie) VanGee of California; sisters, Joan DeWisplaere of Sodus, Cynthia Steurrys of Newark, Jenny Beerens of Newark, Sue Fisher of FL and Betty Lesczenski of Rochester; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her husband Cornelius on Sept. 18, 1994, brothers Isaac and John VanGee, sister Lavina DeRue in 1998.

Volpe, Susan M. - Susan M. Volpe, 91, of Newark died August 23, 2000 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Mrs. Volpe was the daughter of Fred and Rose Ruffalo Santell, born April 19, 1909 in Washington, PA. She was a member of St. Michael Chruch and active in the Rosary Society. She was an honorary member of the RSVP in Newark, where she had volunteered many hours. In her free time she loved to crochet. Mrs. Volpe is survived by her sons Russell (Patty) Volpe of Pennsylvania and Ernest (Theresa) Volpe of Newark; daughter Dolores (Richard) Scialdone of Newark; 10 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; brother Saul (Theresa) Santell; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Volpe was predeceased by her husband Gerald Volpe on Feb. 6, 1959; by her son Richard in 1986, six brothers and one sister.

Russell, Claude - Claude H. 'Russ' Russell, 59, of Newark, died August 10, 2000 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Russ was born in Rochester, March 10, 1941, the son of Hellis and Marjorie Scott Russell. He operated a collision shop in Palmyra for 20 years. Russ is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol Windsor Russell; sons, Robert and Eric of Newark.

Whitbeck, Leigh - Leigh E. Whitbeck, 71, of Kingman, Arizona, died July 24, 2000 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, after an illness. Interment is in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. Leigh was born Aug. 1, 1928, in Clifton Springs; he moved to Arizona eight years ago. He was a 20-year Army retiree, having served in Japan, Korea, Germany and the Canal Zone. He was active in many veteran and social organizations, including the VFW Post 3516, the American Legion Post 22, the 82nd Airborne Association, the 31st Infantry Association 'Polar Bears,' Elks, the Eagles and Moose Clubs. He was the current commander of the Arizona State VFW Color Guard and the Captain of the VFW Post 3516 Color Guard. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Miller Whitbeck; five sons, Gary (Debbie) Whitbeck of California, Ross Whitbeck of Rochester and Pat (Jacqueline) Whitbeck, Alan (Kim) Whitbeck and Mike Whitbeck, all of Canandaigua; daughter, Linda (James) Lee of Bullhead City, AZ; stepsons, Steven (Cindy) Croll and Douglas (Sharon) Croll of Phelps and Kenneth Croll of Geneva; sister, Jean Condit of Newark; 14 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Ruth Fitzgerald Whitbeck; sister, Doris Overslaugh; and son, Davy Whitbeck.

Battle, Robert Sr. - Robert L. Battle Sr., 61, of Newark, died August 11, 2000 at ViaHealth in Newark, after a long illness with cancer. Interment in Resthaven Cemetery, Phelps. Mr. Battle was born in Macon, Georgia, Oct. 1, 1938, to Robert and Lena Mae James Battle. He was married in Phelps on Oct. 19, 1961, to Earline Murphy. He was employed at Mobil Chemical in Macedon for 27 years as a machinist. Surviving are his wife, Earline of Newark; eight children: Robert L. Jr., Greg, Jackie, Kelly, Neda, Angela, Tionesta and Jerome; 11 grandchildren; mother, Lena Mae Battle; two aunts; one uncle; three daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends. He was predeceased by his father; stepson, Dennis; grandmother and two aunts.

Wright, Betty - Betty S. Wright, 75, of Newark, died August 10, 2000. Interment in Sunnyside Cemetery, Williamson. She was a WWII Marine veteran, and a retiree of Mobile Chemical Co. of Macedon. She is survived by her best friends, Mike and Debbie Mayeu of Marion, and their children, Jason and Dana; brother, Richard (Gloria) Skanron of Rochester; nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Ralph Sedore - Ralph E. Sedore, 61, of Palmyra died August 11, 2000 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. He was born June 9, 1939 in Sodus, the son of Vernon 'Pete' and Lorretta Secore Sedore. He was a long-time employee of Garlock Inc. in Palmyra, and has worked for L.S.W. Industries in Clyde. He served in the Navy. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Sodus; his children, Lori (Timothy) Lindstrom of Newark, Lonnie of Newark, Les of Sodus, Leon of Sodus and Lenny (Angie Dishaw) of Marion; eight granchildren and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Ron (Jenny) of Alton, Veron Jr. of Niagara Falls and Ray (Sharon) of Manchester; two sisters, Beverly McLeelen of Cananda, and Patricia Kise of Beaufort, SC; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Richard and a grandson, Lexington Sedore.

VanHousen, Anna Marie - Anna Marie VanHousen, 69, of Newark died August 13, 2000 at ViaHealth of Wayne. Interment in Newark Cemetery. Anna was born Oct. 13, 1930 in Starrucca, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Frank and Anna Schwartz Mach. She retired from the state of Florida, where she worked in the health and rehabilitation service field for 10 years, retiring in 1994. She had also worked at the Finger Lakes DDSO from 1969-82. She is survived by her three sons, Daniel (Deborah) of Lyons and Ronald and Richard of Newark; daughter, Karen (Frank) Mateo of Newark; five grandsons, Todd, Mark, Derek, Drew and Dain; four granddaughters, Tamasha, Sonya, Lacey and Kassie; three great-grandchildren, Kristasha, Lauren and Hannah; brother, Frank (Josie) of Binghamton; and sister-in-law, May Mach of Florida. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Leroy VanHousen in 1976; and a brother, Joseph in 1995.

Comella, Mary - Mary V. Comella, 82, of Newark, died August 14, 2000 at Clifton Springs Nursing Home. Entombment in White Haven Memorial Park. Mary was born to Joseph and Rose Marone Traicchio on September 11, 1917 in Newark. She graduated from Newark High School in 1936. She was retired from Sarah Coventry and was a member of St. Michael Church in Newark. Mary is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Cindy Comella of Buffalo and James and Nancy Comella of Newark; four grandchildren; and sister, Rosalie DeMarco of Newark. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Philip Comella on May 4, 1995.

Wallace, Paul - Paul Vincent Wallace, Sr., 95, of Oxford, CT, died July 15, 2000 at his home. He was the husband of Rosemary Zimmer Wallace. Mr. Wallace was born March 5, 1905 in New York City, son of the late William and Jennie Pardee Wallace. He resided in Oxford, CT for the past 14 years, after living for many years in Marion. He was a retired consultant with the Mobil Chemical Co., Stratford, CT, specializing in plastic wrap. Mr. Wallace enjoyed carpentry and woodworking, was an avid baseball enthusiast, and was a passionate New York Yankees fan. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, and seven children: Paul Wallace, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; Sister Elizabeth Mary Wallace of Port Washington, NY; Richard Wallace of Middletown, RI; Margaret Jordan of Warrington, WV; Susan Roegiers Baktis and Katherine Chicoski, both of Oxford, CT; Thomas Wallace of Seymour, CT; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Johnson, Arlene - Arlene I. Johnson, 75, of Newark, died August 16, 2000 at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. The daughter of Charles and Emma VanParys DeSmith was born in Newark on September 2, 1924. She graduated from Newark High School in 1941 and was a member of St. Michael Church in Newark. Interment in Marion Cemetery. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Debbie Johnson of Newark, Donald and Lynn Johnson of Mexico; five grandchildren; two sisters, Caroline (Howard) Merriam of Arizona and Margaret (Glen) Swanson of Syracuse; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Johnson in 1961.

Kelley, Mary Rose - Mary Rose Kelley, 95, of Newark died August 15, 2000 in Coral Springs, FL. Interment at East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Healy of Fort Lauderdale, FL; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William T. Kelley in 1969 and a daughter, Joan Lucas in 1988.

Fremouw, Helen - Helen E. Fremouw, 86, of Lyons, died August 15, 2000 at Wayne County Nursing Home. She is survived by sons, James Sr. of NC, and Robert of Lyons; daughter, Donna DeWolf of Lyons; grandchildren; great grandchildren; sister, Isabelle Himes of Sodus. Bridgeman, Mark W. - Mark Wayne Bridgeman, 37 of Peirson Avenue, Newark died August 2, 2000 at Strong Memorial Hospital, as a result of an automobile accident. Mark was born to David and Sandra McClellan Bridgeman on March 6, 1963 in Clifton Springs. He attended Newark High School; he worked for Seneca Metal Works in Seneca Falls. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. Ehrhardt, Madeline V. - Madeline V. Ehrhardt, 80, of Newark, died August 3, 2000. She was born February 2, 1920 in Newark to Frank and Pauline Elliot Groat. She retired in 1982 from Newark Developmental Center, where she worked in both the housekeeping and food service departments. She as a member of the August Mauer American Legion Post 286 Auxiliary. She is survived by her daughters, Doreen (William) Moon and Linda (William) Stopfel, both of Newark; son, Thom (Claudia) Ehrhardt of Tacoma, WA; six grandchildren, Michelle Guerrieri, Rebecca Avery, Samantha Moon, Arwen Riddle, Torrey Stopfel and Tad Moon; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Rita (Richard) Carr of Newark. Brown, Charletha Ann - Charletha Ann 'Bam' Brown, 29, of Lyons, died August 2, 2000. She was born April 30, 1971 to Leroy and Betty Brown Waterman. She worked at IEC in Newark for over 10 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Church of Lyons and a 1989 graduate of Lyons High School, where she was a cheerleader and played volleyball, basketball and track. She is survived by her father, Leroy Waterman; her mother, Betty Brown of Lyons; one son, Eric Martin Jr.; five sisters, Janice Griffin of Geneva, Cheryl Rivers and LeeAnn Waterman of Rochester, Armetha Brown of Buffalo and Diamond Waterman of Lyons; brother, Leroy Waterman Jr. of Lyons; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and her maternal grandmother, Lila M. Clack of Jacksonville, FL. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery.

Sheehe, Gerald T. - Gerald T. Sheehe, 78, of Route 88, Newark, died August 4, 2000. He was born on October 11, 1921 in Geneva to Frank and Florence Fromholzer Sheehe. He retired from the V.A. Hospital in Canandaigua with 10 years of service in transportation and had for 26 years owned Grand Cleaners in Newark. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II on the USS Newell DE-322. He was a member of the American Legion Post 286 and the Arcadia Memorial VFW Post 2883, both in Newark; a member of the Dry Cleaners Assn. of Western New York, a long-time member of St. Michael Church and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He is survived by four sons, Timothy (Nancy) of Newark, Michael of Palmyra, Patrick (Jessica) of Lyons and Terry (Paula) of Newark; daughter, Reen (Rusty Arbogast) Gretchen of Newark; two brothers, Donald of Milton, PA and Carl of Syracuse; grandchildren, nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret O'Connor Sheehe in 1978; a brother, Harold of Gorham; and a sister, Rosie Witchey of Cayuga. Interment in Newark Cemetery with full military rites accorded.

Willett, Betty Ann - Betty Ann Willett, 53, of Sodus, died August 5, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Forbes; mother, Evelyn Wolcox of Newark; four sisters, Dolores Kraemer of Ontario, Nancy Amo of Penfield, Kathleen Mastowski of Rochester, twin sister, Barbara Verge of Sodus; many nieces and nephews.

Emerson, Grace - Grace Emerson, 86, of Vienna Road, Newark, died August 6, 2000 at the Newark Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Galen to Charles and Phoebe Farnsworth McMillan on November 15, 1913. She retired in 1972 from the Newark Developmental Center. Mrs. Emerson enjoyed the outdoors and working in her garden. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles Emerson; brother-in-law, Calvin (Diana) Emerson of Greece; sister-in-law, Marge McMillan; many nieces and nephews. Interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua.

Sonneville, Wendy - Wendy L. Sonneville, 49, of East Williamson, died August 6, 2000. She is survived by her husband, John D. Arnie was born the son of Owin and Orrie Wheeler Brown in Alton, New York on July 8, 1911. He is survived by many friends and staff at the DDSO of Newark. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Venturin, Margaret Ross - Margaret Ross Venturin, 86, of East Maple St., Newark, died August 9, 2000 in the Auburn Nursing Home, Auburn, NY. Mrs. Venturin was born in Newark on August 31, 1913, the daughter of Anthony and Clara Critelli Ross. She was a communicate of St. Michael's Church. She was a secretary for the United States Government's Department of Aid for Internal Development and had served in Washington, DC; Bangkok, Thailand, Vientenne, Laos, and Monrovia, Liberia. She retired to Florida in 1970 and returned to Newark in November of 1999. Interment in Newark Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters, Faye DeMichele of Skaneateles and Gail (Anthony) Fiorito of Liverpool; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Vivian Renaldi of Newark, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Anthony Venturin in 1950, brothers Charles Ross in 1981, and John Ross in 1998.

Beal, Dr. Morris F. - Dr. Morris F. Beal, 85, of Scottsdale, AZ, formerly of Sodus, died August 6, 2000 in Scottsdale. Dr. Beal was a practicing Osteopathic Physician in Sodus from 1936 until 1980. He was a life member and Elder of the First United Presbyterian Church in Sodus; past mayor and trustee of the Village of Sodus; past president of the Sodus Rotary Club.He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gibson Beal; four sons, David (Fran) Beal of Scottsdale, Kenneth (Carole) Beal of Hilton, James (Jan) Beal of Strawberry, AZ, Stephen (Beth) Beal of Pittsford; grandchildren, step-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lookup, Dorothy Quance - Dorothy Quance Lookup, 93, of Newark, died on July 26, 2000. Interment in Newaark Cemetery. She is survived by daughter, Mary Fay (C. Newton) Gowdy of Newark; son, Charles (Patricia) Lookup of Henrietta; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George E. Lookup, in 1994. He was co-founder of Harnish and Lookup, Civil Engineers. Mr. Lookup was a former Supervisor of the Town of Arcadia. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Marian Ridley and Martha Mate.

Beerens, Virginia - Virginia L. Beerens, 79, of Newark, died on July 28, 2000 at Via-Health of Wayne-Newark Campus. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery. She was born to Judd and Ethel Brink Lowe at the family farm on Ross Road in Arcadia. She retired in 1975 from Garlock Corp. in Palmyra, where she was a shipping clerk. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark, and the Canandaigua and Arcadia Field Archery. Mrs. Beerens was an active bowler and loved to knit. After retirement she worked at the Ames store in Newark and also volunteered many hours at the Alex Eligh Community Center with the senior citizens. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lucile and James Cator of Middlesex, and son and daughter-in-law Robert and Lucille Sprong of Newark; six grandchildren and ten great-grand-children; survived by many friends. Mrs. Beerens was predeceased by husband Victor Sprong in 1982, and Jacob Beerens in 1990.

Hawthorne, Helen Marie - Helen Marie Hawthorne, 80, formerly of Newark, died on July 26, 2000, at the Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. Helen was born Feb. 19, 1920, in Bedford, Iowa to Harold and Bertha Thomas McCurdy. She was an artist for Western Auto Supply for 30 years in Kansas City. Wilson, Bertha A. - Bertha A. Wilson, 88, of Marion, died on July 31, 2000. Bertha is survived by her son, Pastor Gerard (Mary Pat) Wilson; daughters, Mary Ann (Pastor Timothy) Young, and Josie (Michael) Phillips; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Fritz Hertel. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerard Wilson in 1970.

Smith, Elsie F. Smith - Elsie F. Smith, 84, of Newark, died on July 29, 2000 at ViaHealth of Wayne. Interment in Port Gibson Cemetery. Elsie was born July 19, 1916, in Arcadia, to Edward and Katherine Tellier Fisher. She worked for C.H. Stuart Co. and was a cashier at Loblaws and Colacino's Store in Palmyra. She was a member of the Newark Kingdom Johovah's Witnesses. Elsie was active in the community with her volunteer ministry work, which she did for 40 years. She had a business, making and selling dolls. Her collection was sold in an auction last October, which was attended by many people from the community. Since that time she lived with her granddaughter Kim Bumpus and her family. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Rudy) Lucianovic of Palmyra: one son, Barcy (Sissy) Smith of Palmyra; one brother, Chester Fisher of Newark; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Glacious A. in October 1996.

Jelomono, Ralph J. -Ralph J. Jelomono, 69, of William St., Lyons, died on July 31, 2000 after a long illness. Interment is in South Lyons Cemetery.Ralph was born on March 10, 1931 in Lyons, to Thomas L. and Mary Frantangelo Jelomono. He was in the Marines, a Sergeant serving in the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Clyde-Savannah district in 1986 after 26 years as a guidance counselor. He was a member of the VFW Post 5092 and the Wayne Hills Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Helen Petrus; son, Ralph 'Chip' (Beth) of Georgia; daughter, Judith (Richard) Lynn of North Cohocton; two grandsons; sister, Margaret (Samuel) Trombino of Lyons; sister-in-law, Patricia Jelomono of Lyons; aunts, Helen Salerno of Clyde and Molly (Bob) Latin of Arizona; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his father, Thomas, in 1978; his mother Mary in 1996; brother, Thomas Jr. in 1997; sister, Anne Trombino in 1982.

Mathews, Robert - Robert B. Mathews, 65, of Lock St., Clyde, died on July 31, 2000 at ViaHealth of Newark.Bob was born March 25, 1935, in Banks, Alabama, the son of Charlie and Beatrice Myhand Mathews. He retired in 1996 with 16 years of service with the NYS Department of Transportation in Newark. Goodman, Cecile B. - Cecile Bernice Goodman, 98, of Phelps, died at her home on July 20, 2000 with her children at her side. Cecile was born Sept. 21, 1901 to the Rev. Robert and Mary Pickard Hebblethwaite, in Breweton, NY. She graduated from Mynderse Academy in 1917 and Clifton Springs Sanitarium School of Nursing in 1923. Mrs. Goodman had worked at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua and at Clifton Springs Hospital. She loved the great outdoors and hunting. She shot five grizzly bears during her lifetime, the last one when she was 87. She loved doing crafts, cross stitch and ceramics. Interment in Pioneer Cemetery. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Dawn Goodman of Newark; her daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and James Rosekrans of Phelps; 19 grandchildren; 39 great- grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marion Hebblethwaite; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Goodman was predeceased in 1962 by her husband, Floyd Goodman; her son, Robert Goodman in 1955; her daughters, Elizabeth Huxley, in 1975 and Jane Gregory, in 1994; brothers, Harold, Charles and Clarence Hebblethwaite; and her sister, Carmelita.

Gibbons, Thomas W. - Thomas W Gibbons, 64, of Godfrey Street, Newark, died July 21, 2000 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mr. Gibbons was born November 24, 1935, in Lyons, the son of Hilda Tellier and Dr. James Gibbons, D.V.M. He was a member of St. Michael Church, served in the National Guard, and attended State University College at Brockport. He worked several years as an accountant and was a self-employed landscaper in the Newark area for many years. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Barbara DeMarco Gibbons; two daughters, Theresa (Sean) McCue and Mary Ann (Ed) Fenyn; five grandchildren, Sarah and Thomas McCue, Adrian, Ashley, and Alyssa Fenyn, all of Newark; his stepmother, Barbara Gibbons Chilson of Marion; sisters, Ann (Carl) Taylor of Marion, Judy (George) Wunder of Marion, Joy Higgins of Manchester, CT and Mary Ellen (Thomas) Knowles of Rochester; a brother, Michael Canan of Fort Lauderdale; nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

VanEenaeme, Bertrand M. - Bert VanEenaeme, 63, of Newark died July 23, 2000 at his home, after a long illness. Bert was born in Belgium on Jan. 6, 1937 to Triphon and Clara VanLoo VanEenaeme. He retired from the Newark Developmental Center, where he worked in the maintenance department. He was a member of the AVSO of the VFW Post 2883 and was a past member of the Fairville Volunteer Fire Department. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. Bert is survived by his wife, Ann VanCamp VanEenaeme; daughters, Vera (Alby) Hack of Fairville and Laura Henrie of Newark; mother, Clara VanEenaeme of Newark; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandson; sister, Vivian Bradish and her friend Fred Colon; step-sons, James (Margaret) Tillman of Phelps and Kenneth (Dawn) Tillman of Williamson; step-daughter, Mary Ann (Jerry) Irwin of Phelps; mother-in-law, Marie VanCamp of Clifton Springs; and two nieces. Bert was predeceased by his father, Triphon.

Bialaszewski, Gary R. - Gary R. Bialaszewski, 47, of Penn Yan died July 21, 2000 at Corning Hospital. Gary was born July 21, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Jerome and Eleanor Lerch. He was a technician at Agway in Horseheads. Interment in Second Milo Cemetery. He is survived by one son and one daughter; three brothers, including Robert (Becky) Bialaszewski of Newark; two sisters; an aunt, an uncle; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marsille, Tanneke - Tanneke A. Marsille, 77, of Palmyra, died July 26, 2000. Tanneke was born December 20, 1922 in Ardenburg, the Netherlands, to Jacobus and Jacomina Jansen van den Broeke. She was married Nov. 17, 1949 to Abraham Marsille in Oostburg, the Netherlands. Tanneke was a resident of the Palmyra area and a member of the Palmyra Reformed Church for 28 years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and baking. She was once employed as a horticulturist for Jackson and Perkins gardens. She devoted much time to the 'Each One - Teach One' program and was a supporter and volunteer of the East Palmyra Christian School. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by her husband, Abraham; sons, John (Mary) Marsille of Marion, Donald (Margaret) Marsille of Virginia, and Steven (Marcia) Marsille of Palmyra; daughter, Melody (Stephen) Coriddi of Marion; seven grandchildren; brother, Jan van den Broeke of the Netherlands; nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by her sister, Marie Jansen van den Broeke.

Mazur, Kenneth - Kenneth J. Mazur, 39, of Newark, died as the result of an accident on July 25, 2000. Ken was born November 29, 1960 in Newark, the son of James and Barbara Rooze Mazur. He was a mechanic for 18 years for Best Motors in Rochester. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Deborah Judd Mazur; two daughters, Amanda and Ashley; two brothers, James (Jacqueline) and Mark (Julie), of Newark; sister, Victoria (Kurt) Hargrave of Palmyra; half-brother, Carl Haitz of Manchester; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Louis Haitz of Newark; maternal grandmother, Doris Rooze of Newark; special friend, Ed Wessig; stepmother, Florence Mazur; several nieces and nephews.

Davis, John - John D. Davis, 75, of Clyde, died July 11, 2000 at ViaHealth of Wayne. John was born June 22,1925 in Elizabethtown, PA to Richard and Daisey Donecker Davis. He had worked for the VA Hospital in Lebanon, PA, the U.S. Air Force and the Newark Developmental Center. He served in World War II in the U.S. Marines in the motor pool. Interment in Winfield Cemetery in Winfield, PA. He is survived by two sons, John Scott (Sharon M.) of Clyde and Michael Steven (Debbie) of Lebanon, PA; daughter, Donna (Ed) McEvoy of Newark; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His wife Nancy died on July 13, 1999.

DuBois, Margaret - Margaret DuBois, 84, of Palmyra, died July 14, 2000. Interment in St. Anne's Cemetery, Palmyra. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray, and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Krocke; sister-in-law, Orva Gate; several nieces and nephews.

Brooks, Alfred Sr. - Alfred R. Brooks, Sr., 70, of Lyons, died July 12, 2000, at ViaHealth Newark Campus. He was born in Bridgeport, CT on July 1, 1930 to Alfred and Frances Brooks. He was a veteran of the Air Force, having served from 1948 until 1962 as a staff sergeant. He was employed for many years at Lyons Elementary School as a custodian and maintenance person. Surviving are his son, Alfred Brooks, Jr. of Canandaigua; grandchildren, Alex and Olivia Brooks of Newark; his mother, Frances of CT; brother, Robert of California; two step-sons, Michael Patton of Newark and Earl Patton of Sodus; two stepgrandchildren, Anna Patton and Earl Patton. In 1992, he was predeceased by his wife, Elinor Patton Brooks.

Breisch, Rowena Davis - Rowena David Breisch, 87, of Lyons, died July 7, 2000, at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. She was born June 8, 1913 in Lyons, to Erven and Jenniw Patchet Davis. She was retired from the C.H. Stuart Company in Newark. Interment at the Marion Cemetery. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Nelson, who died in 1996.

Zerbinos, Sandra - Sandra 'Sandy' J. Zerbinos, 56, of Junius, died July 16, 2000 in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Sandy was born Sept. 10, 1943 in Waterloo, the daughter of William H. and June E. Hilligus Prosser. She was a lifeong resident of the Finger Lakes area. She worked with Sylvania in Seneca Falls and for 27 years with the Finger Lakes DDSO. She also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, working with ceramics and camping. She is survived by her husband, George J. Zerbinos; two sons and their wives, Kerry and Lori Ridley and Jamie and Amy Ridley, all of Waterloo; three daughters, Lisa (Douglas) Schroeder of Phelps, Laurie Trout of Waterloo, and Tracy Ridley and her friend, James Van Damme of Clifton Springs; stepson, James Marion of Syracuse; her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Kaufman of Zephyrhills, FL; six grandchildren; a step-grandchild; brother, Richard 'Rick' Prosser of Savannah; sister, Sharyn (Ronald) Wheeler of Newark; 11 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her one brother, David W. Prosser.

Siegwalt, Harold - Harold R. Siegwalt, 91, of Englewood, Florida, formerly of Phelps, died July 17, 2000. Harold was born July 9, 1909 in Newark, to Raymond and Maine Morrison Siegwalt. For many years he owned and operated his own farm and also was a supervisor at a state farm for the Newark Developmental Center, retiring in 1969. He had been a resident of Florida for the past 31 years. He is survived by one son and his wife, H. DaWayne and Fay Siegwalt of Newark; daughter, Doris Dadson of Englewood; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Hand Siegwalt on April 18, 1994; one son, Marlin Siegwalt, in 1968 during combat in Vietnam; and one sister, Edla Morton. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Thomas Murray - Thomas Slater Murray, 64, died suddenly in Newark, on July 18, 2000. He worked at Castelli's and at the Newark Country Club for many years. He is survived by his dear friend Geraldine E. Brink, of Newark; sisters, Ann (Charles) Gertner and Marion (William) Morse; brother, J. Michael (Barbara) Murray; several nieces and nephews.

Tiebout, Cedric R. - Cedric R. Tiebout, retired Director of Athletics at Newark Central School, died July 17, 2000 at his home in Canandaigua. Tiebout came to Newark in 1953, working as high school athletic coach, replacing Donald Hess, who was promoted to principal of the high school. Tiebout retired in 1977 as Director of Athletics, after 24 years of service in the Newark School system, coaching basketball, golf, and football. After retiring, he became involved in financial planning. Tiebout is survived by his wife, Beulah 'Pinky' Tiebout of Canandaigua; daughter, Marcia Tiebout of Houston; son, James Tiebout, also of Houston; daughter, Susan Tiebout of Novato, CA; and grandson, Alexander Serrano of Houston.

Baroody, Rose U. - Rose U. Baroody, 87, of Colton Ave., Newark, died Monday, July 3, 2000 at ViaHealth of Wayne. Rose was born March 14,1913 in Newark, daughter of Thomas and Angeline Valsenti Ursano. She was also a long-time member of St. Michael Church. Interment at the Newark cemetery. She is survived by two sons, George T. (Shirley) of Greensboro, NC, and John. M. (Frances) of Morrisonville; five grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Turk and C. Theodore, Thomas, David and Michael Baroody; one great-granddaughter, Olivia; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her Comell 'Ned' on March 4,1996.

Gansz, Philip E. - Philip E. Gansz, 87, of Lyons, a resident of the Living Center at Geneva North, died Thursday, July 6, 2000. Mr. Gansz was born Aug. 28, 1912 in Lyons, son to Frederick and Carrie Eyer Gansz. He was a veteran of World War II in the United States Army and was employed by the state Highway Department maintenance crew in the Newark location. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons. He is survived by his brother, Vernon Gansz of Auburn; sister, Helena Bannister of Gainsville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by eight siblings.

DeFisher, Leona B. - Leona B. DeFisher, 90, of Newark, died Friday, July 7, 2000, at the Wesley Gardens Nursing Home in Rochester. Mrs. DeFisher was born in Marion on June 22, 1910, the daughter of George and Joanna Cramer Boerman. She had worked for General Dynamics and retired from the Newark Manor Nursing Home where she had been a nursing aide. Interment in Marion Cemetery. Mrs. DeFisher is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Richard Gulick of Fairport; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel, in 1959, and a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Alan Baxter in 1994.

Richardson, Madelyn - Madelyn Richardson, 77, a long-time resident of Wayne County, died July 7, 2000, in the Wayne County Nursing Home, after a long illness. Interment at the Sodus Cemetery.She is survived by her husband, Bernard; son, James of Lyons; daughter, Joyce of FL; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jennie May VanHall of FL, Cornelia Ferguson of Williamson, Dorothy Coppens of Sodus; brother, Stanley Coppens of Sodus. She was predeceased by a son, Jerry.

Hammond, Fred - Fred Hammond, 71, of Fish Farm Road, Sodus, died in Rochester General Hospital on Monday, July 10, 2000. Interment in the Port Gibson Cemetery. He is survived by his two daughters, Bonnie (Richard) Gaioni of Tallassee, AL and Nancy (William) Wood of Sodus; two granddaughters, Sandra and Kimberly Wood; three brothers, Donald (Jeanette) of Clifton Springs, John (Betty) of Sodus and Thurlow (Bonita) of Newark; two sisters, Elaine Brown of Clifton Springs and Jane Henry (Joe Burm) of Palmyra; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Grant Hammond; and a sister, Agnes Robinson.

Manktelow, D. Maurice - D. Maurice Manktelow, 91, of Newark, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000. Maurice had attended the First United Methodist Church of Newark. He retired from Garlock Inc. of Palmyra after 33 years and was also a retired farmer. Interment will be in Marion Cemetery. DeWispelaere, Lina - Lina DeWispelaere, 90, of Newark, died July 2, 2000, at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home. Mrs. DeWispelare was born the daughter of John and Minnie Bertou Havert on March 7, 1910 in Newark, New York. She was a devoted wife and mother. Mrs. DeWispelaere attended a one-room school on Bailey Road. After high school she worked for Jackson & Perkins. She and her husband then purchased a dairy farm on Ridley Road. Mrs. DeWispelaere was a member of the Emmanuel United Church, Eastern Star Amitie Chapter 473, Port Gibson Retiree and a 50 plus member of the Newark Grange P of H where she served as Master. She was also active in the Home Bureau and at one time the Arcadia Reformed Church. Mrs. DeWispelaere loved to travel, she had visited every state in the United States except Alaska. She had also traveled to Europe, Africa, Middle East and Far East. In March of this year, 56 friends and relatives attended her 90th birthday party at Burnham's Canalside in Newark. Interment in East Newark Cemetery. She is survived by her sons Roger of Webster and Ronald DeWispelaere of Wayne, New Jersey; daughters Dorothy DeMay of Newark, identical twins Shirley Adriaansen of Marion and Sharon (Kenneth) East of Walworth, Arlene (Larry) Aldrich of Harker Heights, Texas. Eighteen grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Mrs. DeWispelaere was predeceased by her husband John DeWispelaere in January 1967, a son Richard in 1973, and one granddaughter Selena DeMay.

Johnson, Thelma E. - Thelma E. Johnson, 83, of Palmyra/Newark, died July 2, 2000 at Newark ViaHealth. Thelma was born on February 8, 1917 in Savannah, to George and Evelyn Matthews Beadle. She was a longtime resident of Palmyra before moving to Newark in 1984. Interment, Palmyra Cemetery. Thelma is survived by her son, Raymond Johnson of Sodus; her daughter, Loretta Dobbelaere of Waterloo; seven grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Ann VanDusen of Newark and Mary Jane Patridge of Palmyra; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Johnson in 1984 and her brothers, Clifford and Harold Beadle.

Brugge, Audrey M. - Audrey M. Brugge, 57, of Williamson, died July 2, 2000. She was a life member of the Williamson United Methodist Church, manager of Burger King in Williamson, a former bus driver for the Williamson Central School District. Interment in Sunnyside Cemetery. Matteson, Karl E. - Karl E. Matteson Sr., 65, of Port Gibson, died July 1, 2000 at Geneva General Hospital after a long illness. Karl was born Jan. 28, 1935, in Newark, the son of Harry and Erthie Chinberg Matteson. He had worked in maintenance at Wal-Mart in Newark and at Ames and Crossman Arms. He was a member of the Port Gibson United Methodist Church. Interment in Port Gibson Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bertha Sperr Matteson; son, Karl Jr. (Vicki) of Lyons; brother, Harry Jr. of Palmyra; granddaughter Crystal; and several nieces nephews.

Eckert, Sarah B. - Sarah B. Eckert, 77, of Newark, died July 4, 2000, at her home. Sarah was the daughter of Peter and Susannah Kooman Bliek, born on January 21, 1923 in Williamson. She worked beside her husband on the family farm and also helped with her brothers and nephews on their muck farms. Sarah lovingly cared for her grandchildren and neighborhood children. Her door was always open to all and her cookie jar was always full. Besides her devotion to her own family, she treasured her extended family. Interment, East Palmyra Cemetery. She is survived by her son, Charles D. Sarah was predeceased by her husband Charles Eckert in 1990; brothers, John, Jacob, Peter and Marenus.

Clark, Doris F. - Doris F. Clark, 70, of Phelps, died July 2, 2000, at Strong Memorial Hospital. She was born Dec. 6, 1929 in Newark, the daughter of David H. and Dorothy M. Kidney Dayton. She was employed by Garlock's and was a member of the Phelps Firemen's Ladies Auxiliary. Interment, Oaklawn Cemetery in Oaks Corners. She is survived by her husband, Frederick Clark Jr.; children, Frederick (Marcia) Clark III of Tewksbury, MA, Sandra (Daniel) McIntyre of Phelps, Donald R. (Jean) Clark of Phelps, Bruce D. (Joan) Clark of Phelps, and Kevin J. (Terry) Clark of Clifton Springs; stepchildren, Phyllis Catchman of Palmyra, Gayle (William) McGory of Geneva, and Floyd Clark of Texas; 24 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Shirley Casselman of Newark; brothers, David (Beverly) Dayton of Port Gibson, and Jack (Linda) Dayton of Honeoye; sister-in-law, Charlotte (David) Alexander of Berkshire; nieces and nephews.
