DeMinck, Mary - Mary E. DeMinck, 86, of Williamson, died March 20, 2002. She is survived by her son, Roger (Louise) DeMinck of Williamson; daughters, Janice Chardeen of Williamson, June Kephart of East Rochester, Jean DeMinck of FL; several grandchildren and great grandchildren-grandchildren; brother, John (Mary Jane) Short of Rochester; sister, Josephine Leroy Meyers of Fairport; nieces and nephews.

Johnson, Margaret - Margaret (Gabriel) Johnson, 76, of Tonawanda, died March 27, 2002 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a long illness. She was born February 14, 1926 in Glasgow, Scotland and was a resident of Tonawanda for more than 40 years. A graduate of Newark High School, she was the first Rose Queen crowned during the Rose Festival sponsored by the Jackson & Perkins Co. She is survived by her husband, Robert; three sons, James (Margaret), Craig (June) and Rob (Irene); seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Bell of Newark; also a niece and nephew and several cousins. Interment is in Acacia Park Cemetery.

Haskins, Vincent - Vincent A. 'Budd' Haskins, 83, of Marion, died March 27, 2002. He was the owner of Haskins Contractors and a member of the United Church of Marion, Marion Masonic Lodge #926, a charter member of the American Legion Post 1430, a WWII Navy veteran, a Marion fireman for 62 years, Fire Chief for 25 years, life member of FASNY, member of Northern Central NY Volunteer Firemen, NYS Chief's Assn. and the Wayne Co. Chief's Assoc. He was predeceased by his wife Ruth (Robertson) Haskins. He is survived by his children, Mark (Linda) Haskins, Deborah (James) Christie, Scott Haskins, Wendy (Stephen) Cook of all Marion; five grandchildren and one great-grandson; sisters, Rachel Drave of Marion, Esther Haskins of Carmel, CA; sisters-in-law, June Young of Marion, Beth Stevenson of Ontario, Wilma Campisi of West Webster, Grace Robertson of Ontario; nieces and nephews.

Hill, Versie - Versie M. Hill, 78, of Williamson, died March 27, 2002 at Newark ViaHealth. She is survived by her husband, Eligha Hill, Sr.; children, Mary Alyce (Alton) James of Rochester, Anne Wright of Columbus, GA, Jessie James (Mary) Williams of Lyons, Richard (Joyce) Hill and Eligha Hill, Jr., all of Newark, Joyce (Johnny) Rufus of Dallas, TX, Ervin (Joan) Hill of Rochester, and Versie Hill of Victor; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; mother, Rena Bell Watson of Williamson; many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her son, James Lee Williams. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Toye, Luella - Luella M. Toye, 76, of Newark, died March 30, 2002, at her home. Luella was born September 15, 1925, in Clifton Springs, to John and Gladys Siler Martin. She took care of children all her life. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Toye of Waterloo, and Debra Henderson of Newark; three grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Risser of Pennsylvania and Joan Becker of Shortsville; one brother, Tom Martin, of Newark; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert, in March 1996. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Buchiere, Angelo - Angelo P. Buchiere, 74, of Walworth died March 30, 2002. Angelo was a member of the Early Settlers Club at Bausch & Lomb, where he had been employed as a Graphics Services Supervisor for 46 years. He was a WWII Navy Veteran having served in the Pacific Theater and was a parishioner of St. Mary's of the Lake Church for 50 years. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty; his children, Kathleen (Lee) Buchiere of Oswego, Michael (Patricia) Buchiere of Walworth, Patricia Donofrio of Ontario, Barbara Buchiere of Walworth, Thomas (Diane) Buchiere of Macedon, Stephen (Anna) Buchiere of Palmyra, Christine Buchiere-Gee of Marion, Paul Buchiere of Rochester, Daniel Buchiere of Syracuse; nine grandchildren; brothers, Phillip, John, and Louis and sisters, Josephine and Phyllis. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.

Strong, Madolyn - Madolyn Strong, 81, of Pittsford, died March 31, 2002. She is survived by husband Ralph, sons David of New Jersey and Nelson (Lina) of Ionia; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brother William DeWispelaere, sisters Elizabeth Bade and Sara Naeye, nieces and nephews. Madolyn was predeceased by her brother John DeWispelaere, and sisters Marie Fagner, Carrie Freling, Jenny Costello, JoAnne Schraffenbuger. Interment in the Mendon Cemetery.

Wilson, Peter - Peter K. Wilson, 51, former Mayor of Palmyra, died unexpectedly in Massachusetts, on March 28, 2002. Peter was born on July 23, 1950 in Rochester, to John M. and Phyllis Wilkins Wilson. He was a graduate of Palmyra-Macedon High School and Monroe Community College with a degree in Business Administration. He was married to the former Patricia Coughlin on July 14, 1973 at St. Anne's Church in Palmyra. He was a member of St. Anne's Church, former President of Pal-Mac Little League, served on the Village of Palmyra Zoning Board, was Mayor of the Village of Palmyra from 1996 to 2001. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion, James R. Hickey Squad #120. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Coughlin Wilson; and children Michael, Matthew and James Wilson. Pete is also survived by his mother, Phyllis Wilkins; sister, Patricia (David) Johnson; brothers, John (Dory Driss), Doug (Virginia Cassetta), Steve (Heide), Charles and Ted (Theresa) Wilson; brother-in-law, James (Laurie) Coughlin and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, John M. Wilson and a brother, Dennis Wilson. Interment in St. Anne's Cemetery.

Feiock, Marion - Marion R. Feiock, 86, of Marion, died March 30, 2002 at DeMay Living Center. Marion was born Jan. 28, 1916 in Newark, the daughter of George and Grace Ann Parish McDougall. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Lyons, a former member of the Eureka Grange of Lyons, and a founding member of the Way-Ont Saddle Club. She is survived by her two sons, Craig (Lois) of Lyons and Edmond (Phyllis) of LaCrescent, MN; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, H. Kenneth in June 1979; a brother, Clifford McDougall; and a sister, Mildred Foster.

Goebert, Bernard - Bernard 'Barney' Goebert, 83, of Geneva, died March 28, 2002. He was born August 13, 1918 to Edward and Mary (Caemaet) Goebert in South Sodus. He graduated from Newark High School, class of 1936. He owned and operated Goebert Automotive Supply from 1963.He was a member and past Master of Ark Lodge #33; member and past High Priest of Geneva Chapter #36 Royal Arch Masons; member of Geneva Shriners; past president of Geneva Little League; past president Kiwanis Club of Geneva; Warden and Vestry person at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Geneva for over 25 years; former board member of the Savings Bank of the Finger Lakes. He and wife, Martha, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on March 8, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Martha (Attridge) Goebert; son, Stephen (Christine) Goebert; daughter, Marcia Goebert Kraham; grandchildren, Mark, Eddie, Heather, Joshua, Justin and Aaron; sister-in-law, Eva Goebert. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Goebert, in 1950, and son-in-law Michael W. Kraham, Sr. in 1999.

Gorall, Frank - Frank J. Gorall, 84, of East Palmyra, died March 21, 2002 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Mr. Gorall was born Nov. 19, 1917 in Albion, to Frank S. and Viola Hoffman Gorall. Frank and the former Nora Russell were married Aug. 22, 1942 in Rochester, where they resided prior to moving to East Palmyra in 1947. Frank was a member of St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church in Palmyra and a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the East Palmyra Fire Department for more than 50 years. Frank served as president of the East Palmyra Cemetery Association and had been a member of the James R. Hickey Post 120 of the American Legion. He served in the Army Air Corps. Frank is survived by his wife, Nora; daughters, Noreene (Dave) Stahlecker of Rochester, Margaret (James) Bennett of Virginia, and Kathleen Mashanic of Georgia; son, David (Cheryl) of Wolcott; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald and Robert; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Clara, Eleanor, and Anne; brothers, Edward and John. Interment, East Palmyra Cemetery.

Cattieu, Kathaleen - Kathaleen A. Cattieu, 48, of Palmyra, died March 21, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her brother, Robert P. (Linda) Cattieu of Newark; nieces Robin and Kristin; nephew, Brandon; close friend, Mrs. Kathy Dennett; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her mother, Kathaleen and her father, Robert. Interment in Palmyra Cemetery.

Edwards, Erma Jean - Erma Jean Edwards, 76, of Newark, died March 24, 2002. She was born July 30, 1925 in Newark, the daughter of Everett and Luella Parks. She was a member of the Presidents Club of Avon Products, and had been a sales representative for them for more than 25 years, retiring in 1996. She was a secretary at C.H. Stuart, Inc. In 1973, she retired from Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, where she was an admitting clerk for 20 years. She was also a member of the Newark Elks Ladies Auxiliary and past member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, William 'Bill' R. Edwards; two sons, Timothy (Deborah) of Newark and Michael of Tucson, AZ; one granddaughter; brother, Richard Parks of Red Creek; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Pamela Jean, in 1956; and a brother, Gerald Parks. Interment, Newark Cemetery.

Austin, Agnes - Agnes Austin, 75, of Wolcott, died March 23, 2002 at Newark Via Health. Agnes was born January 12, 1927 in Arcadia, the daughter of John and Margaret Bostwick Austin. She enjoyed candy, collecting dolls, listening to music, dining out, and being with children. Agnes is survived by her sister, Margaret Mary Pangrazio of LeRoy; seven nephews; one niece; and many friends at the Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Service Office. Agnes was predeceased by her parents and brother-in-law, Edward Pangrazio. Interment, Fairville Cemetery.

Gunderman, Helen - Helen Gunderman, 75, of Newark died March 25, 2002 at Newark ViaHealth. Helen was born Feb. 28, 1927 to Howard and Eva Hall Gunderman in Chemung County. She enjoyed stuffed animals, dolls and kittens. Helen is survived by her niece Beverly Shaffer of Florida and many friends at Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Service Office. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Banke, Marcella - Marcella J. Banke, 71, died March 25, 2002. She was born May 3, 1930 in Walworth. She worked for the Wayne Central School District for 18 years, and was active in the Ontario and Sodus American Legion Auxiliaries. Marcella was predeceased by her husband, Norbert in 1997. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Yablonski of Mexico, NY, James (Esther) Banke of Marion, and John (Eileen) Banke of Texas; eight grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Doyle of Ontario; brother, Harold Fraser of Marion; nieces and nephews. Interment in Furnaceville Cemetery, Ontario.

DeToye, Mary - Mary Ann DeToye, 81, of Filkins Road, Newark, died March 22, 2002 at Newark ViaHealth. Mary Ann was born in Lyons, April 16, 1920, daughter of Antonio and Emma August DeSain. She had worked at B.J. Forman Co., McCurdy Co., and at Kodak Park in Rochester. She was a member of St. Michael's Church, Newark. She is survived by daughters, Bea Russell and Pat DeToye; and a stepdaughter, Sheila (Robert) Larson all of Newark; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Antoinette DeSanto of Lyons, Rose Baker of AR, and Eleanor Iannopollo of Geneva; brother, Santo DeSain of Lyons; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Flora Pronti; brothers, John, Joe, and Art DeSain; and husband, Gabriel, in September 1997. Interment is in Newark Cemetery.

VanHoute, Eva - Eva E. VanHoute, 89, of Brumm Road, Newark, died March 23, 2002 at Newark ViaHealth. Eva was born in Walworth, Sept. 24, 1912 to Jerome and Anna Thanks Pembroke. She was a member of Arcadia Reformed Church. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Ann Smith of Newark, and Betty (Richards) Lowley of Sodus; stepson, Harold VanHoute of Macedon; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Doris Vosburg of Palmyra; brother, Leland Pembroke of Newark; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Isaac, in 1983. Interment, East Palmyra Cemetery.

Young, Vicky -Vicky L. Young, 52, formerly of Clifton Springs, died March 23, 2002 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Vicky was born Nov. 26, 1949 in Newark, and had lived in the area all of her life. She enjoyed gardening and listing to all types of music. She is survived by her stepfather, John Rector of Clifton Springs; sister, Karen Young, of Kona, Hawaii; stepbrothers, Michael Rector of Phelps and John (Laurie) Rector, Jr. of Marion; stepsisters, Julie (Bill) Eldridge of Saugerties and Valerie (Bill) Courteville of Marion; step-grandmother, Margaret Rector, of Clifton Springs. She was predeceased by her mother, Martha Jean Rector, in 2000. Interment in Riverview Cemetery.

Wright, Harold - Harold J. Wright, 75, of Williamson died March 20, 2002. He served in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Marion American Legion. He had retired from Pitts Pontiac in Webster. He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Keith) Jock of Sodus, Debbie (Mike) Wright of Hamlin, Karma (Dan) Ritz of Sodus Point, and Holli (Steve) Valley of Williamson; son, Bradley (Patricia) Wright of NC; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Hazel; favorite niece, Karen Johnson of Sodus Point and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1994 by his wife, Beverly. Interment, Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

Savage, Douglas - Douglas Wayne Savage, 66, of Clifton Springs, Saxonburg, PA and Orlando, FL, died March 19, 2002. Douglas was born Oct. 22, 1935 in Clifton Springs, the son of the late Vernon 'Skeeter' and Arlene Brooks Savage. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Savage, whom he married Feb. 20, 1987; his sons, Douglas John Savage of Orlando, Paul Edward Savage of Studio City, CA and Ian Edward Savage of Saxonburg; daughter, Erin Elizabeth Savage, of Saxonburg; sister, Becky Brey of Newark, and one grandchild.

Reeves, Winifred - Winifred P. Reeves, 85, formerly of Newark, died March 23, 2002 in Louisville, KY. Interment, Fairville Cemetery. Winifred was born May 2, 1916 in Newark, to George and Lillian McDonald-Provo. She was a telephone operator for New York Bell Telephone. She is survived by her son, Kenneth LeRoy, of Louisville, KY; three grandchildren, Carol, Chuck and Ashland LeRoy; one great-grandchild, Cody LeRoy; a brother, Robert Provo of Newark; and sister, Eleanor Case of Palmyra.

Payne, Owen - Owen Chauncey Payne, 52, of Palmyra, died March 26, 2002, at his home, in the loving care of his family. Owen was born August 4, 1949 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Robert and Kathleen Zartman Payne. He worked for Alpco Recycling as a driver for many years. Owen was a past member of the Wayne County Motorcycle Club and served as a District 4 President for two years. He and his wife rode a Honda Goldwing to Nova Scotia in 1996. Owen is survived by his loving wife, Paula (Nussbaumer) Payne; daughter, Adrienne Payne of Palmyra; stepson, Jason Tyler of Palmyra; stepdaughter, Tia Tyler of Syracuse; sister, Sue Zartman of Rochester; nephew and niece; mother-in-law Ethel Nussbaumer. interment, North Farmington Friends Cemetery.

Whitcomb, Dorothy - Dorothy H. Whitcomb, 94, died March 26, 2002 at the De May Living Center. She was born in Syracuse on October 22, 1907, daughter of Dean and Margaret Williams Howell. She was a graduate of Syracuse University. A registered nurse, she worked in several area hospitals, retiring from Newark-Wayne Community Hospital in 1974, where she worked for more than 20 years. Mrs. Whitcomb is survived by two sons, Joseph (Lettie) of Lyons and Carl (Janice) of Martville; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Norman (Rachel) Howell of Marietta, GA and a cousin, Eleanor Jenkins of Utica. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy, in 1991. Entombmentin Fort Myers Memorial Gardens in Florida.

Schutt, Woodrow - Woodrow W. Schutt, 82, of Savannah, died March 24, 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Beverlee (Rod) Baptie of England, and Nancy (Bernard) Dougherty of CA; sons, Durwood (Denise) Schutt of Irondequoit, and Aubrey (Vicki) Schutt of Savannah; stepson, Steven Chapman of Penfield; 11 grandchildren; brothers, Clarence Schutt of Newark, and Leon (Theresa) Schutt of Newark; nieces and nephews. DeRight, Eleanor (Ruffell) - Eleanor E. (Ruffell) DeRight, 86, of Williamson, died March 27, 2002. She was a member of Williamson Bible Baptist Church and past president of Daughters of Union Verterans of Civil War. Interment in Ridge Chapel Cemetery. She is survived by a son, Russell (Joe) DeRight of Charlotte, NC; daughters, Joan Lucieer of Lyons, Janice (Douglas) Garno of Spencerport, Diane (Ronald) Lancy of Wolcott, Carolyn (Terry) Smith of Sodus, Doris (Michael) Evankovich of Sodus Point; daughter-in-law, Fran Hall of Williamson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Whitborne of Webster; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Joyce, John - John T. Joyce, 75, died March 16, 2002 at his Newark home. John was born Jan. 14, 1927 in Canandaigua, to Edward H. and Katherine Buckley Joyce. He graduated from Canandaigua Academy, attended Clemson College in South Carolina, and was a graduate of the Rochester Business Institute. For many years, he was affiliated with C. H. Stuart and Co. of Newark. He was one of the pioneers of the growth and development of the Sarah Coventry organization, serving as executive vice president and the Board of Directors and president of the parent company, C. H. Stuart. John was a communicant of St. Michael's Church and had served on various committees for the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, on the Lincoln First Bank advisory board, and was a member and past president of the Newark Country Club. John was an active member of Ducks Unlimited, the 1249 Club, the Newark Rod & Gun Club and the Newark Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Canandaigua American Legion Post. During World War II, John served in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a control tower operator with the 133rd Airways Communications Squadron in Germany as the war ended and during the post-war era. He is survived by two sons, John W. of Canandaigua, and Steven (Sandy) of Irondequoit; a brother, Robert (Katherine) of Macedon; his mother- and father-in-law, George and Lyola Wade of Canandaigua; brother-in-law, Richard Wade of Canandaigua; sister-in-law, Marilyn Rogers of California; nieces, nephews and cousins. John was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (Kathy) in 1994; and a brother, Edward in 1991. Interment, Wood Lawn Cemetery in Canandaigua.

Hallagan, Louise - Louise A. Hallagan, 90, of Norwood, Massachusetts, formerly of Newark, died March 13, 2002 at Caritas Norwood Hospital. Louise was born April 3, 1911 in Buffalo, to Robert and Helen Appleton. She graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in Fine Arts and was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. Louise lived in Newark for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Newark Country Club. She enjoyed decorative painting, gardening, golf, bridge, family and friends. In 2001, she moved to Pond Home in Wrentham, to be near her children. She is survived by her husband, S. Edwin Hallagan, to whom she was married for 61 years; daughter, Susan H. Evans of Lincoln, RI; two sons, Robert E. Hallagan of Dover, MA and William S. Hallagan of Pullman, WA; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Appleton.

Proseus, Albert - Albert G. Proseus, 86, died February 24, 2002 after an extended illness. He was born May 15, 1915 in Newark, to Joseph and Lillie B. Proseus. He was CPA, Hospital Cost Accountant for Rochester Hospital Council for 25 years, and Controller for Clifton Springs Hospital for five years. He was an Explorer Scoutmaster of Troop 122 in Newark for 17 years, receiving the Silver Beaver Award, life member of Newark Rod and Gun Club, life member of the Drumlins Amateur Radio Club, member of the Red Cross Emergency Amateur Radio Unit in Sarasota Florida. Survivors include his wife Olive, of Venice, FL; daughter Sandie (Dan) Ala of Livermore, CA; sons, Richard, (Linda) and William (Rhonda), of Wilson, NC, and James of Venice, FL; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren one great-grandchild.

Cole, Colleen - Colleen H. Cole, 30, died March 11, 2002. She was a graduate of Williamson Central School, and a member of the Reformed Fellowship Church, and the Church Choir of Williamson. She is survived by her loving and devoted parents, Leslie and Sandra DeFisher Cole; special sister, Michelle (Michael) Kuhl of Williamson; niece and nephews; grandmothers, Sadie Cole of Williamson & Josie DeFisher of Sodus; aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. Interment in Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

Petrus, Michael Sr. - Michael A. Petrus, Sr., 94, of Newark, died March 20, 2002. He operated Petrus Restaurant in Lyons for 33 years. He is survived by Anna, his wife of 65 years; two sons, Michael (Angela) of Clyde and Frank (Margie) of Atlanta, GA; his brother Anthony of Lyons; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Secrist, Winona - Winona M. 'Nonie' Secrist, 81, of Phelps/Newark, died March 17, 2002 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Mrs. Secrist was born May 10, 1920 in Newark, to Edward and Edith Strong Mott. Mrs. Secrist was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clifton Springs, Newark VFW Post 2883 Ladies Auxiliary, Stamp Club of Geneva and the Wayne County Humane Society. She sold Avon products and worked for many years at Jackson & Perkins in Newark. She was an avid bowler and golfer for many years. DeBack, Isaac - Isaac S. DeBack, 99, died March 18, 2002. He was born June 23, 1902. He is survived by his son, Isaac P. DeBack of Marion; daughters, Anna (George) Dickson of Marion, and Nellie (Charles W.) Nye of Winter Haven, FL; three sisters in the Netherlands; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was a farmer who, for 60 years, went to the Rochester Public Market.

Scharett, Bernard - Bernard Scharett, 53, of Newark and Marion, died March 19, 2002. He is survived by his fiancee Judy Decker; parents, Robert and Margaret Scharett of Marion; daughter, Heidi Scharett of Watkins Glen; sons, Ronald (Jodie) of Elmira and Robert (Amber) of Cherryville, NC; brothers, Robert of Marion, Ronald (Kathy) of Henrietta, Thomas (Dixie) of Newark, and Douglas of Phelps; five grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Volkmar, Elizabeth - Elizabeth A. Volkmar, 75, of Newark, died March 16, 2002 at Newark ViaHealth. Interment, Newark Cemetery. Betty worked for Seneca Foods in Newark, retiring in 1981. She lived in Newark most of her life and is survived by good friends.

Lucchesi, Louis - Louis P. Lucchesi, 44, formerly of Seneca Falls, died unexpectedly March 12, 2002 at his home in Fishkill. Louis was born July 30, 1957 in Seneca Falls, to Angelo and Anna Sansone Lucchesi, and was a graduate of Mynderse Academy in Seneca Falls. He received his B.A. degree in English literature from Notre Dame University and his Master of Business Administration from Syracuse University. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and a graduate of St. Patrick's School. He is survived by his father and mother, Angelo and Anna Sansone Lucchesi of Seneca Falls; sister, Judith (Michael) Greene of Newark; two brothers, Steven (Bernadette) Lucchesi of Seneca Falls and Robert (Bridget) Lucchesi of Victor; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Strassburger, Janice - Janice K. Strassburger, 68, of Newark, died March 10, 2002, at Highland Hospital in Rochester. Janice was born June 14, 1933 in Rochester, to James and Doris Doe Russell. She was a member of the Church of God in Newark. Jan and her husband, Roland, were co-founders of Ro-N-Jan's Beer Batter Potatoes. They operated food booths for 25 years at many of the area's craft shows, festivals and at Newarkfest. A hairdresser, Jan had owned and operated Kountry Kurl on Hydesville Road for many years, retiring in 1989. She was past president of the Wayne County Hairdressers Association and a member of the August Mauer American Legion Post in Newark. She is survived by her husband, Roland; her children, Karen Lucieer of Newark, Keith (Barbara) Yohe of Newark, and Kelly (Joy) Strassburger of Penfield; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her mother, Doris Viola of Newark; brothers, William (Diane) Russell of Lyons, Terry (Karen) Russell and Jack Russell of Newark; sisters, Doreen Porzi of Irondequoit, Donna (William) McDonald of Hemlock, Toni (Donald) Dube of Newark. Van Duser, Maryse - Maryse G. Van Duser, 79, died March 7, 2002 at F. F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Maryse was born April 29, 1922 in Marseilles, France, to Joseph and Marie Versaille Gen. She came to the U.S.A. in 1948 and lived in various places, the last six years in Canandaigua. She is survived by her children, Orville (Mary) of Phelps, Constance (Coville) Winsor of Seneca Falls, Jack (Sharon) of Webster, Ellen (Michael) Hopkins of Lexington, VA and Susan (Timothy) Pitler of Canandaigua; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a sister, Simone (Robert) Walnes of Fairfax Station, VA; a brother, Rene Gen of Paris, France; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Damon, in 1980. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Espenmiller, Russell - Russell J. Espenmiller, 89, of Rochester, died March 9, 2002. The son of Charles and Belle Pulver-Espenmiller, he grew up in Newark and was a former member of Park Presbyterian Church. He was retired from Eastman Kodak Co. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Sheppard-Espenmiller; daughters, Mary McGaughey of Oregon and Jean (John) Cockayne of Brockport; brother, Howard (Beatrice) Espenmiller of Middleton, OH; twin sister, Ruth Werts of Newark; four grandchildren, Scott, Jennifer, Betsy and Holley; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard and Allen, and sisters Esther Jones and Luceba Warren. Interment at White Haven Memorial Park.

Hyde, Steven - Steven R. Hyde, 50, of Lyons, died March 10, 2002 at ViaHealth of Wayne, Newark Campus. Steven was born Sept. 6, 1951 in Lyons, to Roy and Eva Eaton Hyde. He was employed as a mason by the Bricklayers Union Local 11 in Rochester. He is survived by his wife, Minnie Sizemore Hyde, of Lyons; four sons, Nelson (Lisa) Hyde of Savannah, Steven (Amba) Hyde of Auburn, Robert Hyde of Rochester and Jeremy (Jamie) Hyde of Savannah; stepchildren, Sandra Sizemore of Brighton and Ronald Sizemore of Lyons; nine grandchildren; his mother, Eva Hyde of Wolcott; brother, Roger (Joann) Hyde of Wolcott; three sisters, Dorothy (Steve) Hill of Romulus, Patricia (Glenn) Lake of Alton and Joyce (Bill) Butler of Newark; nieces, nephews and cousins. Tingue, Myrtle - Myrtle A. Tingue, 91, of Sodus, died March 10, 2002. She is survived by her children, Dr. Nancy (Jerry) McBride-Logan of LosAngeles, CA, Joan (Thomas) Miller of Sodus, Christine (Duane) Hall of Salt Lake City, and William (Anna) Tingue of Sodus; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Eileen Brown of Ancaster, Canada; nieces, nephews and many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank L. on March 17, 2001.

Persyns, Julius - Julius C. Persyns, 80, of Palmyra, died March 9, 2002. Julius owned and operated Persyns Collision Shop in Palmyra for many years. He was past president of the Greater Rochester Auto Body Craftsman Guild, Inc. and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran ('Hell's Angels') from 1942-45. He was Past Commander & President of James R. Hickey Post 120 and a member of Palmyra VFW. Interment in St. Anne's Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Steve) Kuhn, of Newark; son, Bradley Persyns of Florida; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and good friend, Charles McGuire. He was predeceased by his wife, Nellie, and daughter, Dolores Goebert.

Orbaker, Agnes - Agnes VerDow Orbaker, 86, of West Palm Beach FL, died March 7, 2002. She was a member of Pultneyville Reformed Church, Williamson Chapter #543 Order of the Eastern Star, and a life member of NY Farm Bureau. Burm, Frederick - Frederick D. Burm, 64, of Waynesville, died March 4, 2002 at Crestview Healthcare Center, Clinton. He was born. Nov. 18, 1937 in Newark, to Peter and Pearl Francisco Burm. Mr. Burm served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Waynesville American Legion Post 1189. Survivors include three daughters, Pam Williams, Columbia, TN, Cheryl Burm, Miami, FL, and Dawn Jones, Lincoln, NE; son, Greg Burm, Waynesville; four brothers, Peter Burm and Joseph Burm, of Palmyra; and LaVern Burm and Edward Burm, of Lyons; sisters, Marjorie DeRuyter, Sarasota, FL and Dora Burm, Elmira. Elzufon, Muriel A. - Muriel A. Elzufon, 85, of Newark, died March 6, 2002. She was born in Manhattan on June 23, 1916, the daughter of Abe and Rose Sugarman Albeit. She was educated at the School of Dance in London, England. She was a life member of Amitie Chapter Order of Eastern Star of Newark, and past president of Perkins School PTA. Mrs. Elzufon served as an Elections Board member, and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a member of Temple Beth El in Geneva and the Finger Lakes Hadassah. She leaves her husband of 64 years, Milton; two daughters - Robyn (Ron) Frick of Minneapolis, and Mindy (Steven) Salsburg of Elmira; a son John (Lena) Elzufon of Wilmington, DE; five grandchildren: Michael (Lisa) Elzufon of Minneapolis, Ari and Risa Salsburg of Elmira, Rachel and Aviva Elzufon of Wilmington; great grandchildren Whitney and Alexander Elzufon of Minneapolis; brothers Bernard Freeman of New Port Richey, FL and David Albert of Boca Raton, FL and sister Celia Albert of NYC. Herrmann, Andrea - Andrea M. Herrmann, 49, of Lyons, died March 2, 2002. Andrea was born October 6, 1952, in Dover, NJ, the daughter of John and Edith Courtright Most. Andrea was a loving mother, dedicated counselor with Wayne County Mental Health, an inspirational teacher. She was co-founder of the Magic Lantern After-School Performing Arts Program. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Gary, and son, Eric Christopher, both of Lyons; her mother, Edith Most of Clyde; and three brothers, Jeff, Doug and David Most. She was predeceased by her father, John Most.

Newton, Rev. Lloyd - The Rev. Lloyd J. Newton, 87, died March 2, 2002 in Jamestown. An alumnus of Chesebrough Seminary, now Roberts Wesleyan College, the Rev. Newton entered pastoral ministry in 1939. He served congregations in Pennsylvania and New York and retired in 1980. He was pastor of the Free Methodist Church on Lincoln Road, Newark from 1968-1980, which closed in 1998. He was predeceased by his wife, Ada, in 1988. His survivors include his wife, Ruth of Gerry, NY; son, David of Cortland; daughter, Linda of Hornell; and several grandchildren.

DeCook, Lorena - Lorena DeCook, 89, died March 5, 2002 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Lorena was born October 2, 1912 in Geneva, to Jay and Carrie Quick Foster. She retired from Garlock Co., with 25 years of service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She is survived by two sons, Robert and Bruce of Newark; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband John J., Jr., in 1972. Interment in Sandhill Cemetery, Town of Seneca.

Cook, Donald - Donald Joseph Cook, 89, of Newark, died March 5, 2002 at the House of John in Clifton Springs. Donald was born March 15, 1912 in Batavia, to Walter and Mary Hyde Cook. He retired from the Newark Post Office in 1980, where he had worked as a clerk for 36 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #83 F&AM of Newark, the Newark VFW Post 2883, and Newark Country Club. The Air Force flag was flown in honor of his service during World War II. Mr. Cook is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Doyle Cook; son and daughter-in-law Donald K. and Paula Cook of New Jersey; granddaughters Suzanne (Anthony) Paldino of New Jersey and Sandra McBride of Ohio; four great grandchildren; brother Raymond (Ruth) Cook of Texas; nieces and nephews. Mr. Cook was predeceased by his brother Harold Cook in 2000; sister Katherine Cook Feb. 28, 2002. Interment will be in the Newark Cemetery.

Vermeulen, Aiden - Aiden James Vermeulen, infant son of William and Rebecca Behlau Vermeulen of Newark, died March 4, 2002. Aiden is survived by his parents; paternal grandparents Eleanor and William Vermeulen; maternal grandparents Karen and Jerry Behlau of Newark; maternal great-grandmothers Evelyn Suchecki of Florida and Shirley Behlau of Texas; cousin Taylor Irene Behlau; aunts, uncles and cousins. Pilkenton, James - James Murphy Pilkenton, 74, of Lyons, died February 27, 2002 at Newark ViaHealth. Jim was born March 16, 1927 in Lashmeet, West Virginia, the youngest son of H. Hamilton and Rosalee (Hazelwood) Pilkenton. He moved to New York 50 years ago and had been employed by Bloomer Bros. in Newark, and later at Borden's in Lyons. At his request, his cremains will be returned to the mountains of West Virginia. He is survived by his son and faithful companion, Gary Michael, of Lyons; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Comella and Sal Branciforte, of Lyons; grandson, Anthony James (Elise) Comella, of Newark; two sisters, Sarah Hartwell and Nellie (Frank) Papasso, also of Lyons; three sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by three brothers - Howard in 1974, Elvin in 1983, and William Thomas in 2001.

Kepple, Elsie - Elsie Kepple, 81, of Marion, died February 28, 2002. She is survived by friends, Charles (Carrie) Peglow and family of Marion; Tom (Sally) Flynn and family of Marion; Donald (Marge) Drave of Marion; brother, John Devey of Colorado; niece, Bonnie Clevenger of Colorado.

Boehm, Mathilde - Mathilde Boehm, 84, of Spa Apartments, died February 26, 2002 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Mathilde was born May 19, 1917, in Germany, and came to the United States in 1954. She worked at Newark High School until her retirement and was a member of St. Felix Church. She is survived by her four daughters, Maria (James) Yaskow of Newark, Johann Langworthy of Clyde, Lucy (Norman) Congdon of Newark, and Georgina (Robert) Ayers of California; a son, George Boehm of Arkansas; brother, Ludwig Boehm of Germany; nine grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George and daughter Antonia Boehm.

McBride, Richard - Richard E. McBride, 74, of Kerhonkson, former teacher in Newark, died from cancer February 28, 2002 in Albany. He was born February 18, 1928, in LeRoy to Richard C. and Grace Cousins McBride. He served with the Army in Korea as Company Commander, 7th Medical Battalion, 7th Infantry Division. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Ribbon. He graduated from Cornell University, taught and was a school principal in Newark; he was professor of Science Education and Administration Supervision at SUNY New Paltz. He was an avid hiker, canoeist and environmental education proponent, leading many canoe trips into the wilderness of northern Canada. He was a beekeeper and operated a greenhouse with his wife, Rosemarie. He was a member of the Reformed Church of New Paltz, the Mohonk Preserve, the Paltz Club and a Charter Member of the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks. He was past president of the D&H Canal Historical Society and of the New Paltz Lions Club. His was predeceased by his first wife Dauphine Carpenter McBride and a son Eric King. He is survived by his wife Rosemarie Mainberger McBride, four sons, Douglas S. of Massachusetts; Duane D. and David E. both of Olympia, Washington; and Richard King of Yorktown Heights; three daughters-in-law and eight grandchildren. Interment in Lakeview Cemetery in Honeoye.

Engman, Robert - Robert L. Engman, 73, of Lyons, died March 3, 2002 at Newark ViaHealth. Mr. Engman was born August 28, 1928 in Kane, Pennsylvania, to John and Evelyn Engman. He was a truck driver for the NYS Department of Transportation in Newark, retiring in 1986. Bob served in the Navy at the end of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #227 and the Veterans of Foreign War Post #5092 in Lyons. He was a member of the NRA and the Lyons Rod & Gun Club. A life member of the American Motorcycle Assn., he had belonged to the Iron Horsemen. He is survived by his son, Michael of Marion and a daughter, Linda Costello of Bradford, PA; two grandchildren; a brother, Richard Stack of Bradford, PA. He was predeceased by a son, Gary in 1964. Interment will be in Pennsylvania in the spring.

Pieters, Eleanor - Eleanor V. Pieters, 82, died February 26, 2002. She is survived by daughters, Paula (Don) Ewing of Ontario, Faye (David) Powers of Palmyra; stepson, Henry Pieters of Palmyra; sister Beulah Kuhns of Skaneateles; brother-in-law Kenneth Clement of Canandaigua; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore in 1970, and by sisters Charlotte Wentzell, Genevieve Ryan, Shirley Clement and by her brother, William Ryan.

DeVolder, Mabel - Mabel DeVolder, 92, formerly of Palmyra, died March 5, 2002 at Newark Manor. Mabel was born April, 24, 1909, in the Town of Arcadia, to Isaac and Fedelia Galasha Blondell, She retired from C. H. Stuart, Inc, in 1969, where she worked in the accounting department. Mrs. DeVolder was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Palmyra and the Order of Eastern Star in Lyons. She is survived by her son Norman (Patricia) of Belgrade, Maine; four grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Vernon in 1960, and a daughter Marlene Moore in 1969. Burial will be in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

McGinn, Nelson - Nelson F. 'Slim' McGinn, 63, of Palmyra and Sodus Point, died March 5, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Dolores; children, Donald (Rochlene) McGinn of Palmyra and Darcie (Jaak) Lugus of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Robert) Kelly of San Francisco; three nephews in San Diego. Interment is in St. John's Cemetery in Clyde.

Dunster, Brian J. - Brian J. Dunster, M.D., 65, of Canandaigua, died Feb. 25, 2002 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Dr. Dunster was born Feb. 10, 1937 in Birmingham, England, the son of Alfred and Hilda Onions, just as England was becoming involved in World War ll. He spent his childhood in war-torn England and emigrated in 1951 to London, Ontario, Canada with his family. Dr. Dunster graduated from the University of Western Ontario, where he received his bachelor's degree and his medical degree. He was a flight surgeon in the Royal Canadian Armed Forces for seven years. He served his internship at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and his residency in surgery at Canadian Hospital, Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada. He served a residency in Otolaryngology from 1989 to 1972 at Mill University, Montreal, Quebec. Dr. Duster was recruited by the board of trustees of Geneva General Hospital and he opened his practice in E.N.T. in 1972 in Geneva. He completed a Fellowship in Otolaryngic Allergy to better provide services to his patients. He had offices in Geneva, Newark, Canandaigua, Penn Yan and recently formed a larger practice with Dr. Eric Birken known as Lakeside Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy. For over 30 years, he gave everything he had to family, friends, patients and colleagues. He was past president of the Ontario County Medical Society, former Chief of Surgery at Geneva General Hospital, and former chairman of the Utilization committee at Geneva General Hospital. He was a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology and a Follow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. He was also a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, the Head and Neck Surgery committee, the Canadian Society of Otolaryngologists and the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy. Besides medicine, his passions were, golf, reading, golf, movies, golf, history, golf, traveling, golf, stamps and all things mentally challenging. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Van Romer Dunster of Canandaigua; four daughters, Jennifer Anne (Kevin) Dunster-Kimmons and Sara Elizabeth Dunster, both of Toronto, Canada, Samantha Anne Dunster of Orlando, FL, and Kylie Mackenzie Dunster of Canandaigua; stepdaughter, Renee Gabrielle Sabin of Kingston; stepson, Brett Matthew (Stacy Monti) Sabin of Sterling, VA; his mother, Hilda Smith Giles of Ramsgate, England; his stepmother, Winifred Onions of London, Ontario, Canada; brother, Michael (Lil) James; two half-brothers, Geoffrey (Loraine Schellenberg) Branson of Vancouver and Christopher (Loraine) Onions; half-sister, Lesley (Ed) Bloetjes of London, Canada; sister in-law, Sandra (Brian) Flood of Illinois; sister-in-law, Dr. Leslie (J.M. Ippolito, Louis - Louis R. Ippolito, 86, of Newark died February 23, 2002 at Newark ViaHealth. Louis was born to Joseph and Mary Mezencea Ippolito, on July 8, 1915 in Brooklyn. He retired from Newark Florist in 1996 after working there as a grower for 65 years. He was a member of the Newark VFW Post 2883. The Army Flag flew in honor of his service during WWII. Mr. Ippolito is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Osborne Ippolito; sons, Gary of Seneca Falls, Rick (Danette) of Newark, Tim of Newark, Tim (Patricia) of Buffalo and John (Melissa) Ippolito of Herkimer; daughter, Tammy Ippolito of Newark; nine grandchildren; brother Angelo (Alice) Pellicano of Lyons; sister, Nancy Drinkwater of Phelps; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Gerald in 1943; granddaughter, Heather in 1998; and grandson, Timothy John in January 2002. Lang, Marjorie - Marjorie F. (Foss) Lang, 82, of Williamson, died February 20, 2002 at the home of her daughter. She was an Eastman Kodak retiree. Bilotta, Louise - Louise E. Bilotta, 89, of Newark, died February 22, 2002 at her home. Mrs. Bilotta was born in Lyons, the daughter of Peter and Philomena Rago Mastracci. She was a member of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by two sons, Patrick J. of Newark and James D. Wahl, Virginia - Virginia J. Wahl, 81, of Newark, died February 23, 2002 at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons. She was a longtime member of the Rebekah Lodge and past president of the New York chapter. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Quance of Newark; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three sisters, Irma (Herb) DeLyser of Williamson, Wilma (Vincent) Crane of Newark, and Lois Walker of Ohio; three brothers, Warren (Dolly) Thayer of California, Lewis (Erna) Thayer of Virginia, and Clifford (Marlene) Thayer of Rochester; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman in 1993; and a daughter, Barbara Bastian in 1999. Interment in Sodus Rural Cemetery.

Ranney, Larry - Larry Ranney, 52, of Louisiana and Palmyra, died February 5, 2002. His parents are Robert and Rose Ranney of Palmyra. He lived in Vivian, Louisiana for four years, owning and operating Red Barn Tire. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; baby daughter, Chyanne; son, Scott Ranney; daughter, Missy Ranney of Port Gibson; stepdaughters, Christine Warren and Jackie Stebbins; brothers, Andrew (Terry) of Colorado, and Rick Ranney of Newark; several grandchildren.

Walker, George - C. George Walker, Jr., 49, of Canandaigua, died February 26, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Lisa J. Walker; sons, Jared and Zachary Walker; daughter, Megan Walker, all of Canandaigua; his father, C. Alvaro, Philip - Philip F. Alvaro, 71, of Lyons, died suddenly at home on February 19, 2002. Mr. Alvaro was born in Lyons on November 24, 1930 to John and Angelina Camada Alvaro. He was a highly decorated Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Lyons American Legion, VFW Post 5092; and was a founder and past president of Lyons Youth Baseball. He also enjoyed collecting antiques, teaching adult education at Newark High School in woodworking. He was a cabinet maker at the Newark Hospital until retirement. Interment, Lyons Rural Cemetery. Philip is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sherlene (Metcalf); three sons, Philip M. (Kathryn) Alvaro of Pittsford, Dennis (Katherine) Alvaro of Lyons, Brian (Michelle) Alvaro of Canandaigua; four grandchildren; two brothers, Frank (Marie) Alvaro of Florida, Anthony Alvaro of Lyons; three sisters, Helen Santino of Lyons; Nellie (Jay) Bemann of Tonawanda, Rose (Lyman) Zulauf of Florida; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.

Cornwell, Iva - Iva M. Cornwell, 102, of Newark, died February 14, 2002 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Iva was born December 23, 1899 in Arcadia, to Jacob and Marietta McFaul Schlecht. She graduated from Newark High School, class of 1918. She attended Geneseo College for one summer and then went to teach in a one-room school in East Palmyra. In 1940 she and her husband inherited a farm on Maple Ridge Road, where they worked and raised their family. Mrs. Cornwell was a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church and the Newark Grange for over 50 years. She was active in the Arcadia Senior Citizens, enjoyed playing Bingo and listening to Books on Tape. Mrs. Cornwell is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Clayton and Mary Jane of TX; Robert and Ruth of Newark; Paul of Newark; George and Kate of FL; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cornwell was predeceased by her husband, John Cornwell in 1988, one brother and one sister. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery.

Hence, Earl - Earl T. Hence, 63, of Newark, died February 19, 2002. He was born September 26, 1938 in Fort Covington, to George and Nettie Barse Hence. He worked as a yard foreman for Phelps Cement Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1998. He was an avid bowler and member of Lyons Elks Lodge #869. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jan Taylor Hence; five sons, Tom (Tina) of OK, Scott (Colleen) of Ilion, Tracey (Samantha) of TN, Earl Jr. (Georgia) of FL, and Randy of LA: daughter, Alice (Don) Smith of Jacksonville, FL; two stepsons, Terry Yonker of Newark and Dennis Yonker of NC; two sisters, Leila (Glenn) Bray of Malone and Gladys LaMay of MA; two brothers, Ron (Bev) of Manlius and George (Sharon) of Ocala, FL; six grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Frances Hence and Mary McDonald. Interment in Newrak Cemetery.

Holbrook, Florence - Florence A. Holbrook, 92, of Newark, died February 15, 2002. Florence was born the daughter of Albert and Celia Nelson Anderson on July 30, 1909 in Jamestown, New York. She taught school for many years in the Westfield and Hartfield, New York area. She was known to everyone as grandma and spent many hours in prayer for her family and friends. She also enjoyed reading books and her favorite was her Bible. Mrs. Holbrook is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Richard Hinchey of Newark; grandchildren, Elaine and Christopher Pragle of Macedon, Ann and Kevin Turner of Macedon and David Hinchey of California; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Kaleb Pragle, Zackary and Abigail Turner; two nieces and one nephew. Mrs. Holbrook was predeceased by her husband, Milton, in 1974, one brother and one sister. Interment in Westfield (NY) Cemetery.

Northrup-Hale, Beryl - Beryl Northrup-Hale, 76, of Clifton Springs, died February 14, 2002 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Beryl was born in Aston-Under-Line, England, on January 6, 1926, to Austin and Nellie Rowland Perrin. She spent her youth in England and served in the Women's Land Army during World War II. She married a United States serviceman during the war and came to Lowell, Massachusetts in 1946 as a war bride. She worked for more than 20 years in the credit department at a department store. For 12 years she made her home in the Marion/Palmyra area, recently moving to Clifton Springs. She was a volunteer with the Marion Food Pantry. Beryl is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Ann) Northrup of Lowell, MA; two daughters, Judith (Stephen) Andrews of Newark and Wendy (Edward) Van Norman of Phoenix; and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands: Harold S. Northrup in December 1975; and Edwin R.W. Hale in December 2001.

Cooper, Curtis - Curtis Cooper, 64, of Newark died February 15, 2002 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. Curtis was born October 5, 1937 in Corning, to Gaylord and Viola Spoor Cooper. He retired form Parker Hannifin Co. where he was a machine operator. He enjoyed fishing, watching car racing and John Wayne movies. The Air Force flag flew in honor of his military service. Curtis is survived by his wife, Eunice Larkin Cooper; sons, Dale of Auburn, Michael of Massachusetts and Mark of Newark; daughters, Debra (Randal) Welborn of PA and Kimberly Cooper of Newark; granddaughters, Megan and Jennifer Welborn. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons.

Pollot, Gladys - Gladys B. Pollot, 83, of Marion died February 17, 2002. She is survived by a daughter, Donna (Gary) DeLano of East Rochester; two sons, Richard (Carole) of Deland, FL, Ronald (Rose) of Covington, GA; special friends, Mike and Cathy Fonte of Marion; sisters, Shirley Leasor of Clifton Springs and Betty Reiter of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Garton-Sherman, Dorothy - Dorothy M. Garton-Sherman, 88, of Williamson and North Rose, died February 17, 2002. Merrill, Albert - Albert W. 'Bert' Merrill, 81, of Macedon, died February 18, 2002 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mr. Merrill is survived by his wife Mildred; daughters, Fay (Ed) Jackson and Mitzi Merrill, both of Macedon and Bert (Brenda) of Naples; brothers, Edward (Peg) Merrill of Newark and Carmen (Dorothy) Merrill of Saranac, NY; sister, Phyllis (Donald) Rouse of Georgia; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Doris, Ada and Irma. The American flag flew in honor of his service in the Army during WWII. Interment in Farmington Friends Cemetery.

Urquiza, Peggy - Peggy Lee Urquiza, 41, of North Rose, died February 15, 2002 at Myers ViaHealth Hospital in Sodus. Peggy was born Feb. 14, 1961 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Izzy and Carmen Conde Soto. She is survived by her companion, Bennie Lee Rockwell; three daughters, Aracelis Maldonado of New Jersey, Charlene Maldonado of Rochester and Ydania Urquiza of Newark; her father, Isaiah Soto of Rochester; her mother, Carmen Conde of Puerto Rico; five brothers and sisters; her ex-husband, Daniel Urquiza of Newark; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Spring burial will be in the Fairville Cemetery.

Finch, Madeline - Madeline G. Finch, 82, of Windsor, NY, died Feb. 7, 2002, at the Heritage Nursing Home, Athens, PA following a short illness. Madeline was born Feb. 15, 1919, in Sempronius, to John and Martha Beyea-Conklin. She had been a resident of Auburn and lived in Deer Lake, Windsor most of her life. She was a graduate of Moravia High School and was employed at Columbian Rope in Auburn and then with her husband in his carpentry business. She enjoyed caring for her animals. She is survived by a sister, Vera Comella of Newark; nieces and nephews and friends at Deer Lake in Windsor. Her husband Fred Finch died in 1985. She was also predeceased by two brothers - Bernard Conklin in 1995 and Gerald Conklin in 1998; two sisters - Selma Grummons in 1984 and Betty Garrett in 1999. A memorial service will be held in the spring in Sand Hill Cemetery, Sempronius.

Kraai, Douglas - Douglas Michael Kraai, 56, of Newark, died February 11, 2002 at Rochester General Hospital after a brief illness. Doug was born August 29, 1945 in Rochester, the son of Dr. John and Elizabeth Harris Kraai. He was a 1966 graduate of State University NY College of Forestry in Syracuse. He taught junior high school health and science for 10 years and became a bison farmer in 1980. He was also an environmental educator, and owner of Crowfield Farm and Retreat Center in Arcadia, which the Kraais opened last February. A member of the Northeast Organic Farming Assn., Doug also belonged to the Agape Club of Rochester and the Earth Native Network. He was a member, former Elder and former youth group advisor at Park Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Field Kraai; two daughters, Corrie (Karl Mink) Kraai of San Jose, CA, and Abigail Kraai at home; brothers and sisters: Bettsy Kohlsaat of Syracuse; Frederick C. of Warwick; John R. of Kingston, Ontario, Canada; Hannah C. Rothermel of York, ME; Peter M. of Marcellus; and Leni Kraai of St. Louis, MO; nieces and nephews.

Petrus, Mary - Mary S. Petrus, 76, of Newark, died February 10, 2002 at the DeMay Living Center. Mary was born July 22, 1925 in Newark, to Antonio and Dominica Truini Crisante. She worked at Western Union in Newark for 15 years, and managed the OTB in Newark for 20 years. She was a member of St. Michael's Church in Newark. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joseph 'Jocko'; two daughters, Debbie Faulisi of Las Vegas and Merilou Santelli VanHoute of Newark; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Betty (Rockie) Janto of Clyde; two nieces and a nephew. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Nittolo, Esther - Esther Nittolo, 82, of Newark, died February 9, 2002 at Newark Via Health. Mrs. Nittolo was born September 21, 1919 in Palmyra, to Daniel and Cecile Tetor Wood. She retired from Newark Developmental Center in 1975. She was a member and chaplain of Newark American Legion Ladies Auxiliary; member of Newark Elks Lodge and Palmyra Moose Club; former Senior Regent, Top of the Hill and Arcadia Senior Citizens, where she was vice president. She had volunteered as a grandmother at the Lincoln School in Newark. Mrs. Nittolo is survived by her son, Steven (Linda) Nittolo of Macedon; daughter, Pamela Nittolo (Eugene) Lesser of CA.; grandchildren, Craig, Scott, Heather Nittolo and Lenny Lesser; brother, George (Mary) Wood of TX; sister, Margaret Harris of Hilton; many nieces, nephews and special friends and neighbors. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Nittolo in 1979; daughter, Debbie in 1955; two brothers and one sister. Interment, Newark Cemetery.

Coomber, Todd - Todd F. Coomber, 37, of Newark/Clifton Springs, died February 9, 2002 at Clifton Springs Nursing Home. Todd was born October 28, 1964 in Newark. He was a member of Park Presbyterian Church. He was the Finger Lakes Muscular Dystrophy Poster Boy from 1974-76. He enjoyed his computer and talking to friends on the Internet. Todd is survived by his mother and step-father, Connie and Colin MacLennan of Newark; father and step-mother, Gary and Patricia Coomber of Farmington; sister, Melissa Coomber of Boston; grandmother, Margie Long of Middlesex; aunts and uncles. Todd was predeceased by his sister April. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Benne, Ruby - Ruby Mae Benne, 78, of East Palmyra-Port Gibson Road, Palmyra, died February 11, 2002 at home. Mrs. Benne was born September 9, 1923 in Dodd City, TX, the daughter of Shepard and Maude Fry Sloan. She retired in 1989 from the Newark School District where she had been in food service at the Junior High and Senior High Schools. She was a member of the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church and the Arcadia Senior Citizens. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jacob; sons, Arie (Shirley) of Plano, TX and Roger (Fonda) of Newark; daughter, Kathleen (James) Geldorf of Macedon; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nelda Brent and Edna Brent of Bonham, TX; nieces and nephews. Interment in East Palmyra Cemetery.

West, Mildred - Mildred E. West, 104, formerly of East Union Street, died February 10, 2002 at ViaHealth of Wayne. Mildred was born April 11, 1897 in Rose, daughter of Henry and Emma Heit Falkey. She retired from Newark Developmental Center in 1962 where she was in charge of housekeeping. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church of Newark and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a resident of the DeMay Living Center. Interment in Lyons Rural Cemetery. Mildred is survived by nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

Latin, Mollie - Mollie Christine Latin, 85, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, formerly of Newark, died February 1, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Louise; sons, Joseph and Robert; daughters-in-law, Sandy and Alice; 13 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Eva Hakes and Amanda Latin gave Mollie loving nursing care during her illness. Interment, Newark Cemetery.

Baker, Elizabeth - Elizabeth F. 'Betty' Baker, 78, of Newark, died February 9, 2002 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Baker was born August 25, 1923 in Newark, to Wallace and Harriet Hicky Follette. She worked at the Newark Hospital for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Newark. She was employed at Newark DDSO until her retirement. Carl, Dorothy - Dorothy E. Carl, 81, of Lyons, died February 12, 2002 at ViaHealth Newark. Interment, South Lyons Cemetery. Dorothy was born December 23, 1920 in Lyons, to Francis and Marie Knapp Carroll. She was a graduate of the New York State University at Oswego, where she earned a Master's Degree in Special Education. Dorothy was a teacher at the Newark Developmental Center until her retirement in 1983. She volunteered with the Wayne County Literacy Volunteers. Mrs. Carl is survived by three daughters: Ellen M. Raff of Fulton, Mary Carl of Lyons, and Carroll Lance of Lyons; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Francis Carroll of Jordan and sister Jean M. Carroll of Lyons. She was predeceased in 1960 by her husband, Joseph.

O'Bine, June - June E. O'Bine, 83, died February 12, 2002 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. She is survived by her husband, Stanley O'Bine; three step-daughters: Lucille Rensler, Kay (Herman) Knapp and Doris (Richard) Johnson; one step-son, Thomas (Dorothy) O'Bine; three nephews; several step-grandchildren; and many dear friends.

VanTyle, Russell - Russell Demmon VanTyle, 85, of Newark died February 8, 2002 at his home. He was born October 17, 1916, in Bethel, NY to Demmon and Anna Viola VanTyle. He graduated from Bucknell University in 1939, volunteered for the U.S. Navy in 1941 and served until 1946. He was a resident of Newark since 1948. Mr. VanTyle served in various management and sales capacities for C. W. Stuart Inc. and Stecher-Traung Lithograph Corp. in Rochester until he retired in 1976. He was president of the Newark Country Club in 1964. He was instrumental in adding amenities, such as the swimming pool, to enhance the Club's attractiveness. He was director of the Arcadia Community Chest, and the National Association of Direct Selling Companies. Interment in Newark Cemetery. He is survived by Aileen, his wife of 53 years; two sons, William (Susan) VanTyle of Newark, and Peter (Lonnie) VanTyle of Skaneateles; daughter, Patricia (Jeffrey) Apfel of Barrington, RI; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, W. Lester VanTyle and his sister, Eleanor Robinson.

Young, Frederick R. - Frederick R. Young, 78, of Winchester, VA, died January 31, 2002. Frederick was born September 16, 1923 in Newark, to Fred H. and Lillian (Rasche) Young. In Virginia, he was an administrator with Shenandoah Gas Company. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and church treasurer. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Marines in WWII. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Chamber of Commerce, served on the Winchester Industrial Development Authority, the Economic Development Commission. He was a member of the Winchester City Council. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn 'Lynn' Young; sons Rick R. Young, Jr. and Pete Young, in Winchester; a daughter, Betsy Young Lewis of Hayfield, VA; four grandchildren.

Robinson, Helen -Helen T. Robinson, 85, of Leesburg, FL, died January 29, 2002. Helen was born in Ithaca; she moved from Clifton Springs to Florida in 1982. Helen retired as a legal secretary from Sarah Coventry in Newark. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Florida. She is survived by her husband, Glenn F. Robinson, of Leesburg; a daughter, Sharon (Carl) Wheat, of Brockport; a son, Gary (Susan) Robinson of Grand Maruais, MN; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Yonker, Curtis - Curtis Yonker, 68, of Newark, died February 4, 2002. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret in May 2001. King, Marlene - Marlen A. 'Terrie' Trunzo (Acquista) King, 67, died January 24, 2002 at Geneva General Hospital. Marlene was born May 26, 1934 in Codogan, Pennsylvania, to Samuel and Pauline Chvala Trunzo. She made her home in Geneva since 1946, and worked at Sampson Air Force Base and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Canandaigua. She had owned King's Krown Restaurant in Phelps. She was a member of St. Stephen's Church and the Sons of Italy Auxiliary, where she was an active bingo player. She wrote poetry. She is survived by her husband, Richard King; her mother, Pauline Trunzo of Phelps; four sons, Jonathan (Rebekka) Acquista of Geneva, Christopher (Christine) Acquista of Geneva, Stephan (Cynthia Michelle) Acquista of Virginia, and Joseph (Christine) Acquista of Newark; eight grandchildren; one sister, Valerie Trunzo Drooby of Geneva; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Samuel Trunzo, and grandson, Nicholas Samuel Acquista.

Kirbis, Leroy - Leroy Kirbis, 69, of DeMay Living Center and formerly of Buffalo, died January 23, 2002. LeRoy was born May 5, 1932, in Buffalo to LeRoy and Hazel Kirbis. He had worked in various grocery stores in the Buffalo area before moving to Newark. He is survived by sisters, Geraldine and Shirley Kirbis of Macedon, and Linda Eaton and family of East Amherst. Interment in the East Palmyra Cemetery.

Leffler, Jennie - Jennie M. Leffler, 84, died January 26, 2002 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. Mrs. Leffler was born on July 23, 1917 in Sunbury, PA, the daughter of the late Herbert and Grace (Garney) McHenry. She was a member of the Canandaigua Baptist Church and a volunteer at Care Net Pregnancy Center of Wayne County. Interment in Grove Place Cemetery in Chili. She is survived by her children, Kay (James) Viggiani of Clifton Springs, James (Suzanne) Leffler of Lakeland, FL, Pamela (Joseph) Mannix of Chesapeake, VA, Patricia (James) Hutchinson of Savannah and Robert (Michelle) Leffler of Newark; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in 1979 by her husband, Ralph.

Wilson, Marion - Marion (Foist) Wilson, of Stuart, Florida died January 26, 2002. She is survived by her sister, Lucille H. Daley of Clyde; daughter, Joanne White of Coconut Grove, FL; two sons, Bill and Jim of FL; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Interment in Perry.

Hall, Martha - Martha N. Hall, 93, of East Port Bay Road, Wolcott, formerly of Marion, died January 24, 2002 at ViaHealth Newark. She is survived by a niece, Eleanor Kolczynski; two cousins, Ina Benton and Marjorie Stebbins; several grand nieces and nephews; and several foster children. She was predeceased in 1968 by her husband, Charles Frederick Hall. Interment in Marion Cemetery.

Gutschow, Florence - Florence E. Gutschow, 95, of Lyons, died January 25, 2002 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Florence was born in East Syracuse on January 22, 1907, daughter of Adelbert and Annette Bristol Taber. She had lived in Lyons for many years and also in Newark. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and an avid bingo player. She is survived by two sons, Frank Jr. of NJ and Ronald (Frances) of Tonawanda, Erie County; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Sr. in November 1991. Spring interment in South Lyons Cemetery.

Geldof, Magdalena - Magdalena S. Geldof, 86, of East Palmyra, died January 25, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Elaine (William) Vandenbosch of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Frances (Cornelius) Zonneville of Newark and Elizabeth Corteville of Newark; sister-in-law, Gladys Ryckbost of Newark; brother-in-law, Paul Campbell of Newark; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cornelius.

Lawrence, Hazel - Hazel Lawrence, 89, of Newark, died January 28, 2002 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. Hazel was born November 11, 1912 in Tyre to William and Serdenia Babcock Lawrence. She worked at Hickox (then General Electric) and retired from Newark Developmental Center in Newark. Hazel was a member of the Newark United Methodist Church. Hazel is survived by her sister, Doris Juffs of Newark; nieces, Sherry Juffs of Newark and Bonnie (Donald) LaGas of Savannah; nephew, Clarence Juffs, Jr. of Holley; three great-nieces, Michelle (David) Donk, Tami (Mark) Mundy and Darcy (David) Greco; seven great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Interment in Rose Cemetery.

Ridley, Gerald - Gerald B. Ridley, 79, of Lakeland, FL, succumbed to cancer January 22, 2002 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Born in Newark, on Oct. 22, 1922, he went to Lakeland from Fremont, CA in 1988. He was a warehouse manager for Sarah Coventry Jewelry. Gerald was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge No. 83, and was a member and past president of the Lions Club, both in Newark. He is survived by his wife, Vera E. Ridley; son, John Steven Ridley, of Villa Hills, KY; brother, Erling E. Ridley of Newark; one grandchild.

Donk, Catherine - Catherine E. Donk, 79, of Savannah, died January 20, 2002. She is survived by three children: Sharon (Patrick) Noble of Savannah, James (Susan) Donk of Brockport, and Gregory (Theresa) Donk of Farmington; eight grandchldren, two great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel George of Lyons; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond in 1968.

French, Francis - Francis J. French, 90, of Clyde, died Jan. 26, 2002 at the Wayne County Nursing Home following an extended illness. He was born March 11, 1911 in Brushton, to William and Margaret Manning French. He moved to Clyde in 1940, and managed the Market Basket Grocery Store in Clyde. In 1950, he and his wife purchased the Red & White Grocery Store in Clyde; they operated the store until 1958 when Francis went to work for the Consolidated Gas Co. of Phelps. In 1970, Mr. French became employed as an investigator for the Wayne County Dept. of Social Services, retiring in 1978. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn, of Clyde; one son, James (Neva) French, of Canastota; two daughters, Shirley (Leonard) Noble of Newark, and Jeane Belair of Newark; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandson. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Finch, John - John R. 'Jack' Finch, 81, of Newark, died January 20, 2002, at home. Mr. Finch was born in Newark on August 7, 1920 the son of Glenn and Edith Goetzman Finch. Jack graduated from Newark High School in 1939. He began his studies at the University of Maine before entering the US Navy during World War II, serving with the Pacific Fleet. After the war, Jack returned to the University of Maine receiving a degree in agriculture in 1947. He joined the firm of Edgett-Burnham Co. as assistant superintendent, later becoming superintendent and part owner, retiring in 1985, after the firm became part of Seneca Foods. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Newark Masonic Lodge #83, and the Newark Elks Lodge 1249. Jack is survived by two sons, John R. (Sherrie) Finch, Jr. of Romulus and Neil (Rebecca) Finch of Newark, and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Thelma in 1996 and his sister Jane Sessions in 1994. Interment, Newark Cemetery.

DeCann, Lena - Lena DeCann, 88, of Phelps, a resident of the Clifton Springs Hospital Nursing Home, died January 19, 2002. Lena was born March 24, 1913, to Wasyl and Anna Yaskow. She was a lifelong resident of the Phelps area. She loved music and was devoted to her family. She was a past president of the Geneva Senior Citizens. She is survived by her children, Emor (Jimmie) DeCann Jr. of Phelps, Richard (Carol) DeCann of Waterloo and Merna (Richard) Magde, also of Phelps; seven grandchildren and their spouses; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sophie Quagliata, Catherine DeCann and Mildred Dudley Sanders; brother, Peter Yaskow; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Emor DeCann Sr. in 1991.

Gale, Ethel - Ethel L. Gale, 91, of Newark, died January 18, 2002 at Seneca Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center. Ethel was born October 27, 1910, in Holley, Orleans County, to Harry and Helen Downey Bailey. She had worked for Garlock Co. in Palmyra for 33 years. She was a 52-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary 286, the VFW Auxiliary 2883 of Newark, and the Palmyra Moose. She is survived by three daughters, Lois Reeves of Penn Yan, Helen Jones of Monrovero, CA and Shirley Pentycofe of Lyons; two sons, Dwight Gale of Smyrna, TN and Donald Gale of Fayetville, NC; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Collier of Wolcott, Frances DeCann and Eleanor Vermeulen of Newark; two brothers, Alan DeCann of Manchester and Robert DeCann of Newark; one niece and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Arlie in 1967. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Cambier, Margaret - Margaret Rose Cambier, 87, of Newark, died January 19, 2002 at her home. She was born Jan. 18, 1905 in Newark,m to Frank and Nora Burns Crouse. She was a lifelong resident of Newark and a communicant of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by a daughter, Mary (Doug) Palmer of Newark; two sons, Williamson Cambier of Houston, TX, Craig (Susan) Cambier of Louisville, CO; four grandchildren; one cousin, Helen McGinnis of Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, Myron in 1985; and by her brothers, Joseph, Robert and Edward Crouse. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Rahm, James - James E. Rahm Sr., 83, died January 20, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Virginia 'Jean' Rahm; daughters, Sally Mobbs, Betty Yost and Judy Hagar; son, James; grandchildren Tonya Shelters, Gene and Stephen Fletcher, Roger and Jeffrey Yost, and John and Rick Hagar, and 11 great-grandchildren. Interment in Port Gibson Cemetery.

Ruiz, Reinaldo - Reinaldo Ramos Ruiz, 43, of Newark, died suddenly on January 20, 2002 at his home. Reinaldo was born November 13, 1958 to Primitivo and Lydia Ruiz Ramos in Maunabo, Puerto Rico. He had worked for Newark Florist. Reinaldo is survived by his wife Carolyn Ruiz; mother Lydia Ruiz of PR; brothers Carmelo Garcia and Primitivo Ruiz, both of PR, and Hector Ruiz of Elmira; sister Carmen Milagro Ruiz of PR; nieces and nephews; good friend Henry Ortiz of Newark. Interment in Maunabo, Puerto Rico.

Moose, Leona - Leona Moose, 90, of Huron/Newark, died January 23, 2002 at her residence. Leona was born Nov. 22, 1911 in Marion, to Marenus and Mary DeWendt Moose. She enjoyed collecting dolls and wearing hats. Leona is survived by a special friend, Ruth Gillette, and many friends at the Finger Lakes DDSO. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Huron.

Armstrong, Howard - Howard A. Armstrong, 67, of Sodus, died January 11, 2002. He is survived by wife, Ruth; four children, Lynn Anne (David) Rozelle of Geneva, Theresa Weishaar of Birdsboro, PA, Lisa (Timothy) Gannon of Williamstown, NJ, and Tracy (Michael) Withey of Marion; six grandchildren; two brothers, Allen A. of Roseburg of OR and Charles (Charlotte) of Berkshire; three sisters, Ethel Smith and Hazel (Larry) VanSusan of Berkshire, and Phyllis (Victor) Alexander of Newark Valley; nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Interment in Fairville Cemetery.

Van Hall, Gerald - Gerald F. Van Hall, 72, of Newark, died January 13, 2002 at the Department of Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Canandaigua. He was born Jan. 19, 1929 in Rochester, to Jay and Pauline Fitzgerald Van Hall. He was raised in Ontario where he attended high school. He joined the Marine Corps, serving during World War II. Gerry went to radio and television repair school. He operated a store in Ontario, selling radios, televisions and floor covering. For years he was a bookkeeper for the canning factory in Alton. Gerry was a mail carrier in Newark, and was a regional sales manager for Brown & Bigelow. He worked for the Newark Courier-Gazette, and in 1971 he founded the Wayne County Star by merging the Lyons Republican, Herald Eagle, and the Eastern Wayne County Star. He owned and operated the Music Center in Newark and the Music Mart in Canandaigua. Along with his sons, Gerry, started the G & C Solar Construction Co. He was a manager in the lumber department at Chase-Pitkin, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, and a member of the August Mauer American Legion Post 286 and several Rotary clubs. Gerry is survived by Kay (Kathryn), his wife of 51 years; daughter, Dawn Van Hall of Lafayette; three sons, Martin of Syracuse, Christopher (Karen) of Hilton and Jeffrey (Shelly) of Newark; grandsons, Andrew and Corey; several cousins. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Lawson, Josephine - Josephine E. Lawson, 92, of Marion died January 13, 2002. She is survived by her son, Bernard (Marta) Lawson of Marion; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George Lawson and daughter, Joyce Faro. Interment in Marion Cemetery.

Butler, Paul - Paul Q. Butler, 78, of Newark, died January 13, 2002 at Newark ViaHealth. Paul was born to Fred and Sally Young Butler on December 27, 1923 in Lick Creek, West Virginia. He retired from Fold-Pak in Newark in 1989, after working there 34 years. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the WWII Victory Ribbon. Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Walker Butler; daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie (William) Kline, Dixie (Thomas) Scharett, Drema (Donald) Wilkins, and Christine (Dave) Wilck; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Naomi (Klell) Pettrey, Sylvia Halanton and Louise Etter; nieces and nephews. Burial with full military honors will be held at East Palmyra Cemetery.

Halsey, Elmer - Elmer James 'Dick' Halsey, 88, of Palmyra, died at his home January 12, 2002. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 63 years; three children, Darlene (Harry) Matteson of Palmyra, Robert (Janice) Halsey of Victor, and Michael (Linda) Halsey of Palmyra; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Bernadine Avedisian of Phelps and Marjorie Gronberg of Clifton Springs; sister-in-law, Dorothy Halsey of Palmyra. He retired from Garlock in October 1978 after 38 years of service. He enjoyed NASCAR racing; his favorite driver was the late Dale Earnhardt. Dick was an avid Miami Dolphins fan. Interment in St. Anne's Cemetery, Palmyra.

VanCamp, James - James H. Van Camp, 96, formerly of Hartnagle Road, died January 11, 2002 at the De May Living Center. He was born May 22, 1905 in Clifton Springs, to Charles and Mary Norsen Van Camp. He operated a dairy farm on Lee Road until his retirement in 1965 and was a long-time member of the Newark Grange. In his retirement, Jim kept busy doing carpentry work and gardening. His wife, Catherine predeceased him in 1992. Jim is survived by two daughters, Brenda Palone and Nadine Van Camp, both of Newark; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildreen; sisters, Lucille (Richard) Dickens of Clifton Springs and Carrie Van Hemel of Phelps, several nieces and nephews. Interment will be in East Palmyra Cemetery.

Hallagan, Nancy Anne - Nancy 'Anne' Hallagan, 67, of Newark, died January 7, 2002 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Anne was born May 2, 1934 in Corning, to Dr. Arvo and Jean Bast Salo. She was a 1952 graduate of Corning free Academy and a 1956 graduate of Vassar College where she earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree. She received her Master's degree in Elementary Education from Syracuse University. Anne taught third grade at Perkins Elementary School until her daughter was born. She continued as a substitute teacher until retiring in 1975. She had been a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, the Tuesday Club, the Newark Country Club and the Newport Yacht Club in Rochester. Anne was an avid bridge player, belonging to numerous bridge clubs. She enjoyed golf, tennis and did extensive world traveling with her husband to international sailing competitions. Mrs. Hallagan is survived by her husband of 44 years, Richard W.; three children, Jean Hallagan-Palm of Pulaski, David (Pamela) of Needham, MA, and Peter (Kristen) of Pittsford; eight grandchildren; her father, Dr. Arvo Salo of AZ; and a brother Peter Salo, of San Francisco.

Gartman, Pamela - Pamela R. Gartman, 32, of Marion, died January 4, 2002. Interment in Ridge Chapel Cemetery, Williamson. She is survived by her husband, James Gartman; children, Christina, David, Jamie, John Wesley, Jacquelyn and Kyle; mother, Christina (Frank) Shulla of Palmyra; father, William Olmstead of Rochester; grandfather, Gerald Hutchinson of Williamson; sister, Janice (Don) James; brothers, Daniel (Barbara) Shulla, Francis (Tana) Shulla, Mark (Bonnie) Shulla, Terry (Lisa) Shulla, Robert (Tandra) Olmstead; mother-in-law, Ann Gartman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and friends.

Lind, Randolph - Randolph H. Lind, 42, of Newark, died suddenly at home on January 5, 2002. Randolph was born June 13, 1959 in Geneva, the son of Roland E. and Lois Yost Lind. He was a graduate of Newark High School, class of 1977, and attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, until his junior year, when physical difficulties ended his academic pursuits. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Interment in Restvale Cemetery in Seneca Falls. Randolph is survived by his parents; sister, Nancy (Bruce) Fritsch of Hilton; aunts, Joyce Blake of Carrollton, Texas, and Irene DelRusso of Rochester; uncle, Harold W. (Ruth) Lind of Seneca Falls, and several cousins.

Deppen, Kenneth - Kenneth L. 'Ozzie' Deppen, Sr., 81, of Lyons, died January 5, 2002 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Kenneth was born in Juniata, PA on January 9, 1920, to John and Anna Amerine Deppen. He retired from the American Can Co. in Fairport where he worked 25 years as a machinist. He served in the Army in World War II. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Victoria Banegas, whom he married July 25, 1983; six sons, Kenneth J., Gary, Allan, Richard of Newark, John of Lyons, and David of Muncy, PA; two daughters, Donna Hall of Hughesville, PA, and Tina Oberdorf of Muncy, PA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Jack, Don and Jim.

Forjone, OraBelle - OraBelle Horton Johnson Forjone, 97, of Wolcott, died January 3, 2002, at Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. OraBelle was born October 5, 1904 in Butler, to William E. and Cynthia Harrington Horton. She helped her first husband Otis Johnson on the farm, and later worked as an aide at the former Wolcott Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Maxine Vezzose of Lyons; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins; sister-in-law, Helen Horton of Newark; daughter-in-law, Nina Johnson of North Rose. She was predeceased by her son, Robert S. Johnson; brother, Howard Horton; husbands, Otis Johnson and Frank Forjone; and son-in-law James Vezzose.

Dolan, Robert - Robert J. Dolan Sr., 69, of Williamson, died January 7, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Melva Sargent-Dolan; daughter, Terry (Ted) Sutherland of Pultneyville; sons, Robert Dolan Jr. of Pultneyville; Brian (Michelle) Dolan of Sodus; 10 grandchildren; brother, William (Shirley) Dolan of Ontario; nieces and nephews. He was a Xerox retiree. Interment in Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

Gates, Darren - Darren C. Gates, 40, of Geneva, died January 7, 2002. He was born August 5, 1961 in Lyons, to Charles and Jean Price Gates. He attended Newark Schools. He was a chef at Nonna Cosentino's Trattoria in Geneva. He is survived by his mother, Jean Gates of Newark; his father, Chuck Gates of San Diego, California; aunts, uncles and cousins; special family friend, Dorothy White. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Luther and Anna Price.

Seaman, Mary - Mary (Leonard) Seaman, 56, of Palmyra, died suddenly January 8, 2002. She is survived by her husband Michael; mother Marion Leonard; father, Robert Leonard; brothers, Robert (Susan)Leonard Jr., Daniel (Kim) Leonard; sisters, Bonnie Maxwell and Amy Leonard; and nieces and nephews. Fernaays, Ralph - Ralph G. 'Bob' Fernaays, 79, of Williamson, died January 2, 2002. He was a WWII Army Veteran, prisoner of war, and served in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a retiree of the Star Market of Rochester, and member of the Williamson American Legion. Interment in Webster Rural Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Elsie (Quick) Fernaays; son, Guy Fernaays of Sodus; daughters, Alana Jean Fernaays of Sodus, Cindy (Tom) Guile of Naples, and Debra (Ray) Duemmel of Sodus; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; five sisters - Ruth Pieters of Webster, June Ehlich of Albion, Arlene (Rudy) Youngman of Spencerport, Shirley (Nolan) Hergert of MI, Nan (Ike) DeWispelaere of Marion; three brothers - Howard Fernaays of Rochester, Russell (Barbara) Fernaays of Williamson, and Donald (Janet) Fernaays of Sodus; nieces and nephews.

Stickler, William - William R. Stickler, 68, of Phelps, died January 1, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Terri (Wayne) Nichols, Jeff (Donna) Stickler, Christopher Stickler; stepchildren, Mary Ellen (Edwin) Stevens, Beverly Parker, Dennis (Shirley) VanGee; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Aunkst, Helen Spencer, Janet (John) Mandrino, Shirley (Cecil) Thomas, Betty (Peter) Bowerman; many nieces and nephews. He retired from Mobil Chemical after many years and was a member of Phelps Baptist Church.

DeWolf, Cora - Cora Mae DeWolf, 89, formerly of Newark, died January 2, 2002 at Wayne County Nursing Home. Cora Mae was born March 29, 1912 in Hunts, NY, to Frederick and Lula Trask Niles. She graduated from Newark High School, worked for GE in Syracuse and for Newark Development Center. She married Andrew L. DeWolf on December 8, 1937. Mrs. DeWolf is survived by her daughters, Linda (Gail) VanCleef of Newark, and Sharon Murphy of Albany; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Wykle of Farmington, Mary Watson of Marcellus and Bertha Vicinus of Farmington; nieces and nephews. Mrs. DeWolf was predeceased by her husband, Andrew in 1987 and her great-grandson Bobby in 2001. Burial will follow at East Newark Cemetery.
