Lieberman, Hattie - Hattie Lieberman died February 2, 2003; her memorial service will be held Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m. in Glenwood Cemetery in Geneva. Hattie is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Zayas of Luquillo, Puerto Rico and Harriet Gamble of Indianapolis; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in 1989 by her husband Morris (Monty) Lieberman.

Weiler, Janice - Janice M. Weiler, 81, of Delray Beach, FL, formerly of Newark, died March 25, 2003 after a brief illness. Mrs. Weiler was a secretary for various businesses and an active community volunteer. She was a member of the Church of the Palms, United Church of Christ of Delray Beach. A Memorial Service was held at the Church of the Palms. She is survived by her children: Melody, Sherry, James (Rita Fay) of Newark, Brent (Susan); and by her sister Gail Sherba. She was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1998, her sister Shirley and her brothers Roger, Richard and James.

Walker, Betty - Betty L. Walker, 55, of Newark, died March 25, 2003 in the Clifton Springs Hospital. She is survived by her son Steven of Rochester; grandson, Tavian; mother, Marjorie Fagner of Newark; sister, Nancy (Ralph) McCann of Sodus; brothers, John Brown and Thomas Brown of Sodus; several nieces and nephews.

Lockley, Curly - Carlton J. 'Curly' Lockley, formerly of Williamson, died February 14, 2003 in Bradenton, FL. A celebration of his life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Williamson on April 5 at 2 p.m.

Cooper, Florence - Florence (Bush) Cooper, 89, of Williamson, died March 30, 2003. She was a long-time resident of Williamson and was retired from Williamson Central School, where she was a private tutor. She helped organize the first Brownie Troop in Williamson, served as Cub Scout Den Mother and Girl Scout Troop Leader and held other Scouting positions. She was a former librarian at the Williamson Free Public Library and a trustee of the Wayne Co. Library System. She was a member of Myers Hospital Twig Association. She was involved in the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson for many years serving as past president and treasurer of the Women's Association and as an Elder on the church Session. After retirement, she and her husband spent many winters in Sun City, Arizona, where she became a crafter of clocks and silver and lapidary jewelry. She is survived by her sons, William of Wilmington, NC and Robert (Ellen) Cooper of Naples; daughter, Margaret 'Peg' (Mark) Cohen of Fairport; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Bush of Marion; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond 'Jim' Cooper. A memorial service will be held in August, with interment in the Marion Cemetery.

Mattoon, James - James E. Mattoon, 78, of Phelps died March 28, 2003 at his home. James was born on Feb. 15, 1925 in Phelps, son of Delbert and Elizabeth DeRuyter Mattoon. He retired as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds for the Phelps Clifton Springs School District after 31 years. He also worked for Joel Caves Lumber Mill in Phelps. Mr. Mattoon was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II and a 30-year member of the Seeley B. Parish American Legion Post 457 in Phelps. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosalie Bowen Mattoon of Stanley; children James R. Mattoon of Phelps, Steven Paul Mattoon of Middletown, and Karen (Leon) Ruthven of Stanley, sister Joyce Hoeper of Arizona; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; many special friends. He was predeceased Feb. 11, 2002 by his son, Terry Mattoon, and by his brother Edward Mattoon.

Leonardson, Daniel - Daniel M. Leonardson, 52, of Wolcott, died March 29, 2003 after a long illness. He is survived by Patricia Leonardson; daughters, Amanda (Chris) Allen of Rose and Lauren Leonardson of Wolcott; parents, Max and Anita Leonardson of Wolcott and Mary Jane Eltzroth of Fort Wayne, IN; sisters, Martha (Roger) Godfrey of Leroy and Jody (Rick) Subick of Rose; brothers, David Leonardson of Fort Wayne, Thomas (Marsha) Dutcher of Newark, Terry (Brenda) Dutcher of Mays Point; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Collier, James - James N. Collier, 66, of Newark, died March 31, 2003 at his home. Jim was born in Newark, on May 10, 1936 to Norley and Helen Collier. An office machine repairman, he had worked at C.H. Stuart, and Omar Business Machines, before retiring from Kodak. Jim served in the U.S. Army and was a member at the August Mauer Post 286, American Legion. He is survived by his daughters, Jean Collier of Palmyra, Cindy (Michael) Derrick of Worchester, MA; two sisters Norma (Erwin) Papoosha of Hampton, CT and Barbara (James) Rugenstein of Newark. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Ross, Gregg - Gregg A. Ross, 76, of Sodus, died March 31, 2003. Gregg graduated in 1944 from Irondequoit High School, was in WWII, was a member of Sodus Fire Dept. for 49 years and Fire Chief for 19 years. He was a member of the Sodus Masonic Lodge, and had a long career with Ross Motors. He was predeceased by his brother, Ralph and sister, Helen. He is survived by wife, Joyce of Sodus; son, Donald (Nancy) Ross of Sodus; daughter, Carol (Craig) Stevenson of Sodus Point; grandchildren, Stephen (Kristi) Ross, David Ross, Nichols Stevenson, Haley Stevenson, and Samantha Stevenson; great-granddaughter, Madison Ross; sister, Virginia Kukura of Penfield; brothers, Donald and James both of Florida, William of Penfield; good friend, Jeanie Camp; nieces and nephews.

Robson, Grace - Grace Robson, 65, of Stuart Avenue, Newark, died peacefully at home on March 23, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 26, 1937 in Huron, the daughter of Angelo and Marie (Scott) Barnaba. She was devoted to her family. She worked for many years at Newark-Wayne Hospital in the patient information, registration, and payroll departments, as a receptionist for Dr. Chan in Sodus, and for several years at Wegmans. She greeted customers with samples of fruits and vegetables and was affectionately known as 'the Wegmans fruit lady.' Grace is survived by her husband of 45 years, John Robson; two sons, John (Cheryl) Robson, of Newark and Guy (Christine) Robson, of Fairport; five grandchildren, Ashley, Amanda, Cole, Melissa, Allison; step-granddaughter Kristy (Ed) Mays; step-great-granddaughter Lauren Mays; her mother, Marie Barnaba, of Lyons; three brothers, Joe (Judy) Barnaba of Lyons; Tony (Barb) Barnaba and Sam (Carol) Barnaba both of AZ; three sisters, Jean (Tony) DeLeo of Clyde, Connie (Dick) Rogers of FL, and Ann (John) Novak of AZ; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father and two brothers. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

McIntyre, Dorothy - Dorothy McIntyre, 80, of Newark, died March 23, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Dorothy was born September 9, 1922 in Newark, daughter of Edward and Julia Martens Verdehem. She had worked at Colacino Rose Bowl Lane for many years. In the early 1960's, she was the first female police officer with the Newark Police Department. She worked as an attendant at the Newark Development Center and for several years was a Newark rural carrier for the Finger Lakes Times. She was a member of St. Michael's Church, the Newark Fire Department Auxiliary, and the Wayne County Fire Auxiliary. Mrs. McIntyre was predeceased in 1983 by her husband Curtis. She is survived by her son Raymond (Paula) of Newark, her daughter Margaret 'Peggy' (Matthew Renckert) DeRossett of Lyons; four grandchildren: Stacy and Paul McIntyre, Mary (Mark) Thoms, and Julie Sturiale; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret (Nelson) Durfee of Newark, Alice Munkhoff of Cocoa, FL and Betty Hutchinson of Bloomfield; nieces and nephews. Interment, Newark Cemetery.

Palermo, Kay - Catherine A. (Kay) Palermo, of Newark, died March 24, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Kay was born in Newark, the daughter of Anthony and Marion Tavano Palermo. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, where she was active in the Eucharistic Ministry. She was a member of St. Michael's Church Rosary and Altar Society. She worked for Jackson and Perkins and C.H. Stuart, Inc. She retired in 1985 from Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, where she was director of volunteers. As a member of the Newark Hospital Auxiliary, she volunteered for many years in the snack bar. She is survived by five brothers: Anthony (Jane), Paul (Nancy), Frank (Betty Jane) John (Eleanor) Cosmo (Phyllis) all of Newark; a sister, Rose Marie (Gary) LaLonde of Auburn, a sister-in-law, Iona Palermo of Newark; nieces and nephews. Kay was predeceased by a brother, Rocco Palermo and a sister Josephine Craver.

DeRycke, Alice - Alice J. DeRycke, 68, of Palmyra, died March 22, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Alice was born September 13, 1934 in Rochester, to Thomas and Edna Botz Blackburn. She was married to Gustaf L. DeRycke, Jr. on May 9, 1953 in Port Gibson. In addition to her husband Gus, Alice is survived by her daughter Alice (Willard) Hardin of Palmyra; sons Allen J. (Betty) DeRycke of Palmyra, Alvin J. (Lisa) DeRycke of Tulsa, OK, and Alex (Dawn) DeRycke of Palmyra; sisters Ruth Morey of FL, Bernice Bauman of Pittsford, June Edinger of Macedon; sister-in-law Gert Glazier of Canandaigua; 13 grandchildren; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, twin sister Evelyn Connelly, and brother Ralph Blackburn. Interment will be in Palmyra Cemetery.

Lewis, Donald - Donald Lewis, 74, of Walworth and Rochester, died March 18, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Lewis of Rochester; daughters, Penelope (Steve) Banas of Rochester, Gail Lewis of Oregon, and Tammy Lewis of Illinois; sons, Donald Jr. (Laura) of Palmyra, Daniel (Debbie) of Lock Berlin, and William Lewis of Texas; sisters, Martha (Bob) Michner of Texas, and Mabel (Duke) Risley of Walworth; brother, Bob (Diane) Lewis of Florida; 18 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

DeHollander, Anthony - Anthony A. DeHollander, 86, of Williamson, died March 24, 2003. He had retired from Schlegel Corp. of Rochester. He is survived by his wife Viola (VanHall) DeHollander; son Duane (Bonnie) DeHollander of Webster; cousin, Abram Marsille of Newark; and cousins in Holland. Interment in Sunnyside Cemetery in Williamson.

Comella, Katherine - Katherine W. Comella, 92, of Sanibel Island, FL died March 22, 2003. Katherine was born Nov. 17, 1910 in Lyons, to Charles and Carmella Comella Williams. She is survived by her three sons, A. Thomas Comella of Florida, Charles J. (Shirley) Comella of Lyons, and Gene W. Comella of Massachusetts; six grandchildren, Stephen, Christopher, Erin Katherine, Gregory (Erin), G. Matthew and John Paul; one sister, Rose (Philip) VanValkenburg of Lyons. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip A. Comella, in May 2001, a lifelong wholesale produce dealer in Lyons; and three brothers, Joseph, Samuel and Michael Williams. Interment in South Lyons Cemetery.

Adriaansen, Barbara - Barbara A. Adriaansen, 88, of Newark died March 24, 2003. She is survived by her sons, David Adriaansen of Boston, MA, Donald (Kate) Adriaansen of Doylestown, PA, Dale Adriaansen of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Erin and Lindsey; mother, Margaret (Boise) Franks of Elmira; sisters, Shirley (Gordon) Buyck of Detroit, Donna (Frank) Wujastyk of Elmira; brother, Bruce (Connie) Franks of Marion; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Leslie Franks.

Watrous, Zachary - Infant Zachary Michael Watrous, 23 days old, of Newark, died March 25, 2003 at the Golisano Children Center of Strong Memorial Hospital. Zachary was born the March 2, 2003 to Steven and Jessica (Schaefer) Watrous, at Strong Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his parents, and sister Ashley; maternal grandparents Karen (Tom) Boynton and Lloyd (Cheryl) Schaefer; paternal grandparents David and Genevieve Watrous; paternal great grandmother Rose Watrous; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Interment Newark Cemetery.

Giovenco, 'Nina' - Antonina Giovenco, 68, of Newark, died March 26 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. She was born December 3, 1934 in Italy, to Salvatore and Maria Greco Fanara. She and her husband owned and operated Lavilla Pizza & Subs in Ontario for many years. She is survived by her husband John Giovenco, Sr.; sons John (Drusilla) of Ontario and Peter (Sue) Giovenco of East Rochester; daughter Cathy (David) Kabat of New Hampshire; four grandchildren; brother Phillip Fanara of Italy; sister Maria (John) Rilli of Italy; nieces and nephews. Entombment in White Haven Memorial Park in Perinton.

Haak, Thomas - Thomas J. Haak, 47, of Marion, died March 17, 2003. Sharrow, Janice - Janice V. Sharrow, 77 of Route 88 South, Newark, formerly of Seneca Falls, died March 12, 2003 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Janice was born June 26, 1925 in Seneca Falls, to the late Dorothy Abar Peterson. She was raised in Seneca Falls and lived in Newark since the early 1960's. She was a Registered Nurse, a graduate of the Auburn School of Nursing. She served as Administrator of the Newark Manor Nursing Home, from 1965 until her retirement in 1990. She had worked as Surgical Nurse Supervisor for the former Taylor-Brown Hospital, Waterloo. While she resided in Seneca Falls, she was a member of St. Patrick's Church. She is survived by a cousin, Elizabeth (Thermon) Printy of Penfield, and many friends. She was predeceased June 9, 1996 by her sister, Dorothy P. Conley. Interment will be in the spring in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls.

Billings, Howard - Howard E. Billings, 88, of Walworth, died March 12, 2003. He is predeceased by his wife, Pearl and a grandson, Rick Jr. He is survived by his sons, Roger (Ernestine) Billings of Henrietta and Richard (Lynda) Billings of Marion; a daughter, Gail (Ed) Fish of FL; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grand children; and nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Walworth Fire Department, Wayne County Fire Police, Masonic Lodge and the Walworth United Methodist Church.

Gonzalez, Enrique - Enrique Maisonet Gonzalez, 77, of Newark, died March 11, 2003. Enrique was born Nov. 22, 1925, in Barceloneta, Puerto Rico, son of Basilio and Belon Gonzales Colon. He had worked at Jackson & Perkins Co. and Seneca Foods in Newark. He lived in Newark for 38 years; he was a World War II veteran. He is survived by two sons, Enrique Maisonet Lopez and Jorge Luis Maisonet Lopez; one daughter, Maria Belen Maisonet Lopez, all of Puerto Rico; two sisters, Elizabeth Maisonet of Pennsylvania, and Emma Melendez of Puerto Rico; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and good friend, Miguel Otero of Newark. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Angelo, Wilma - Wilma D. Angelo, 73, of Clifton Springs, died March 16, 2003 with her family by her side. Wilma was born July 6, 1929 to Charles and Grace White Kopp. She worked as a secretary for Rochester Drug Co. and American Can. She was the organist for St. John Lutheran Church in Fairport for many years. She enjoyed camping with her family, camp fires and dancing. Mrs. Angelo is survived by her husband of 55 years, Paul A. Angelo; sons Patrick (Sandra) of Marion and Charles (Laura) Angelo of Palmyra; daughters Kathleen (Nelson) LaBarron of Greece, Linda (Victor) Lewis of Florida, Cheryl (Bob) Bump and Paula (Thomas) Schweizer both of Clifton Springs, 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; brother Charles Kopp, Jr. of Branchport; sister Bertha Mae Plumb of Macedon; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Bonnie and brother Billy. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery in Farmington.

DeWandel, Edwin - Edwin P. DeWandel, 72, died February 10, 2003. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 28 years of honorable service. He served in the Korean Conflict and during the Vietnam War. After his military career he retired from Dominion Virginia Power and the City of Virginia Beach. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolina DeWandel, a son, Mark (Julie) of Massachusetts, and a brother, Bill (Barbara) DeWandel of Marion. Burial at Woodlawn Gardens in Virginia Beach.

Jones, Lorraine - Lorraine M. (Jordan) Jones, 67, of Williamson, died March 16, 2003. She is survived by her son, Michael (Regina) Jones of Wolcott; daughters, Tracey Jones of Kendall, Mary (Michael) Rich of Williamson; five grandchildren; brothers, Francis (Linda) Jordan of Bloomfield, Richard 'Buck' (Nancy) Jordan of Williamson; sisters, Beatrice (Theodore) Valcore of Williamson, Arleen (Calvin) Briggs of North Rose, Diane Hartigan of Kansas; other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Jones in 1992. She was retired from Myers Community Hospital, Sodus where she was a Registered Nurse. Interment in Baptist Rural Cemetery, Sodus Center.

Santelli, Josephine - Josephine Caputo Santelli, 80, of Lyons, died March 17, 2003. Josephine was born November 30, 1922 in Rochster, a daughter to Anthony and Raffaela Pellegrino Caputo. She was a member of St. Michael's Church in Lyons, active in the AFS, and an avid golfer and bridge player. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred Santelli in 1992, brother, James Caputo, and sisters, Lucy Lotito, Caroline and Rose Caputo. Surviving are three daughters: Angela (Robert) Long of New Jersey, Jean (Richard) Kouwe of Florida, Anne (William) Conley of Maryland; three sons, Anthony (Karen) Santelli of Florida, James (Helen) Santelli of Lyons, Arthur Santelli of Lyons; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; three sisters, Marie (Joseph) Emanuel of California, Angie (John) Molinaro of Lyons, Adeline Campanaro of Rochester; two brothers, Louis (Jenny) Caputo of Rochester, George Caputo of Rochester; sisters-in-law, Helene Santelli of Lyons, Stella Santelli of Florida, and Lavina Muto of Victor. Interment will be in South Lyons Cemetery.

Kerr, Ronald - Ronald A. Kerr, 55, of Clifton Springs, died March 17, 2003. Ronald was born December 25,1947 to Mary Donigan and Joseph Kerr of Syracuse. He grew up in Syracuse and attended college in North Dakota and Washington, graduating with degrees in fine arts and education. He was a safety officer at Superior Truck Lines in Port Gibson. Ron enjoyed history, boating, artistic pursuits and spending time with his family. He was known for his dry wit and sense of humor and was very close to his wife and children. He will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia O'Brien; daughter, Megan E. Kerr and her family, Douglas and Emily Bostock; sons Devon A. Kerr and Ryan T. Kerr; brothers, Richard (Merilee) Kerr of Florida, Gary (Joan) Kerr of Solvay, Martin (Mary) Kerr of Cicero; sisters, Mary Beth Rancier of Clay and Terra (Michael) Vacciano of Syracuse; and brothers-in-law, James (Maria) O'Brien of Washington, Alan (Linda) O'Brien of New Jersey, and Kevin (Diane) O'Brien of Manchester. He was predeceased in 1978 by his brother Joseph.

Moyer, Joseph - Joseph P. Moyer, 90, of Newark, died March 19, 2003. He was born March 23, 1912 in Lyons, to James and Virginia Ruffalo Moyer. He workd for Bloomer Bors. and retired from the Neawrk Developmental Center. He as a memer of St. Michael's Church, Neark Elks Lodge, Marbletown Fire. Dept. He served in the Navy during World War II and is a Life Memer of American Legion August Mauer Post 286. He is survived by a son, James A. Moyer of Rochester; two brothers, Arthur Moyer of Newark and Dominic Moyer of Biloxi, MS; two sisters, Angeline (Elwood) Davio of Newport, VT and Yolanda (Albert) Cupalli of Geneva; several nieces and nephews. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Kane, Daniel L. - Daniel L. Kane, 54, of Sodus, died March 11, 2003 in the Clifton Springs Hospital. Kane served as Wayne County Administrator, Clerk of the County Board of Supervisors, and County Budget Officer. He was the first Administrator ever appointed by the Wayne County Board of Supervisors, and he held the post since it was created in 1994. He served as liaison between the County's 15 town supervisors and its 30-plus department heads. He was overseer of the county's $114 million budget, and a guiding force in capital projects, including the most recent plan to construct a new nursing home. A Fordham University graduate, Kane began his county career in 1972, directing employee and job training programs for the Wayne County Action Program. In 1980, he was appointed employee and training director, and in 1984, he became the county's Personnel Officer. In 1988, he left county employment and served as coordinator of continuing education for Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES. While at BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services), Kane worked to expand vocational training services for adults who were unemployed or trying to move away from welfare. Dan lived in Sodus with his wife Joan, who is a supervisor for foster care and adoption for the county's Department of Social Services. Besides Joan, his wife of 29 years, he is survived by son, Ethan of Silver Spring, MD; mother, Mary Kane of Ontario; three brothers, Thomas (Terry) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Robert Jr. (Rebecca) of Rochester, and John (Janice) of Nottingham, NH; his mother- and father-in-law, Thomas and Elizabeth Benzel of Syracuse; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Katherine) Benzel of Syracuse and John (Kathleen) Benzel of Newark; sister-in-law, Phyllis Kane of Ontario; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Robert. Friends may call Monday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 45 W. Main St., Sodus. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Office of the Wayne County Historian, 9 Pearl St., Lyons 14489; or to the Finger Lakes Community Cancer Center, 6 Coulter Rd., Clifton Springs 14432.

Benham, Brenda - Brenda J. Benham, 52, of Sodus, died at home on March 8, 2003. She was a member of the American Red Cross, Wayne County EMS Council, the International Fresh Water Resource Center, an EMT with the Sodus Town Ambulance and the Alton Fire Dept. Ambulance. She was the Postmaster of the Alton Post Office. Brenda was predeceased by her father, Floyd DeMay. Schott, Yvonne - Yvonne Montana Schott, 44, of Canandaigua, died March 3, 2003. Yvonne was born December 8, 1958, in Lyons. She was a physician's assistant for the Lyons School District and the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic. She served on many school committees and participated in many children's sporting activities. She also was very active in the Coordinated Childcare Development Program in Canandaigua. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Schott; two children, Ellen and Eric Schott; parents, Harold and Carolyn Montana of Newark; one brother, Bruce Montana of Watkins Glenn; mother and father-in-law, Charlotte and Curt Schott; sister-in-law, Irene Weis; niece, Rachel Weis; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Chiazza, Tom - Gaetano J. 'Tom' Chiazza, 76, of Newark, died March 12, 2003 at Rochester General Hospital. Tom was born November 22, 1926 in Swoyersville, PA, son of Michael and Angela LaCorurt Chiazza. He had been a pressman for FiberBoard/Fold-Pak for 49 years, retiring in 1989. Tom was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. He was a Navy veteran, having served on a carrier during World War II with the Pacific Fleet. He was a life member of the August Mauer Post 286 of the American Legion and Arcadia Memorial Post 2883 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Tom is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary; a daughter Angela (Len) Barron of Canandaigua, a son Michael of Rochester; a brother Anthony (Marie) Chiazza of Swoyerville, PA and several nieces and nephews. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Henry, Marie - Marie E. Henry, 80, died March 5, 2003 at Clifton Springs Nursing Home. Mrs. Henry was born December 25, 1922 in Oneonta, to Ward and Irene Washburn Kilmer. She was a member of the Sidney Congregation Jehovah's Witnesses. She is survived by six children: Roy McBroom of Waterloo, Roxana Brayton of Clifton Springs, William, McBroom of Kirkville, Willard McBroom of Fulton, Connie Regers of New Bern, NC and Thomas McBroom of Fulton; three step-children: Kathy Cower of Nineveh, Richard Henry of Afton, Roger Henry of Deposit; five sisters - Josephine Pensack of Ocala, CA; Joyce Pettit of Ocala, CA, Shirley Chambers of Afton, Jean Rapuzzi of Afton, Barbara Eldred of Endicott; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband James Henry in 2001. Interment in the Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.

Bailey-Simmons, Edith - Edith Bailey-Simmons, 87, of DeMay Living Center, Newark, died March 5, 2003 after a long illness. She is survived by her husband, William Simmons; two daughters, Roselyn (Donald) Rouland of Oaks Corners and Edna (David) Buckholz of Geneva; two sons, Maurice (Betty) Bailey of Providence, RI and Richard (Carol) Bailey of Clyde; two stepsons, Roger (Audry) Simmons and William (Dorothy) Simmons, both of Lyons; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Brown of Stanley. She was predeceased in 1968 by her husband, Arland Bailey.

Giambra, Sarah (Johnson) - Sarah Helen Mary Johnson Giambra, 48, of Swede Road in Brocton, died March 3, 2003. Sarah Helen Mary was born Nov. 1, 1954, in Lyons, to John L. Johnson and Bernice E. (Tinney) Johnson. She graduated 20th in her class at Lyons High School in 1972, and went to State University College at Fredonia for studies in music. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, she has spent thousands of hours in the ministry, where she was known for her teaching methods. On April 22, 1978, she married Anthony Giambra of Brocton. They shared their lives and ministry with their three sons, who have all grown to be ministers, loving Jehovah, God and his son, Jesus Christ. She was predeceased by her father. She is survived by her husband, Anthony Giambra, of Brocton; mother, Bernice E. (Tinney) Johnson of Lyons; sons, Peter of Brooklyn, and John (Erin), and Luke, both of Brocton; one grandchild, Joshua; brothers, J.L. Brian (Michele) of Marbleton, GA, Jay (Malinda) of Westfield and Lloyd (Carmen) Johnson of Valencia, Spain; sisters, Ruth Muir, Bernice (Albert) DeRoose and Jane (William) Mott, all of Lyons, and Cynthia (H. Michael) Dennis of Clemens, NC; her in-laws and family, nieces and nephews.

Lewis, Robert - Robert B. Lewis, 86, died March 8, 2003 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. Bob was born December 21, 1916 in West Pittston, PA to Burt and Elizabeth Ridgeway Lewis. He was a retiree of Marion Central School District and had been active in various teacher organizations. He was a member of the Western Presbyterian Church of Palmyra and the James R. Hickey Post 120 of the American Legion. The United States Army Flag flew in honor of his service during WWII. Bob is survived by his wife Beatrice Riley Lewis and daughter Bonni Lewis of Fairport.

Higgins, David - David William Higgins, 58, died February 26, 2003 in Albuquerque. David was a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church and a member of the Irish American Society of New Mexico. He lived in Albuquerque since 1987. He was a 1962 graduate of Lyons High School and a former employee of the Simplex Co. in Rochester. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Colleen McCabe Higgins of Albuquerque, NM; two sons, John (Sherry) Patrick Higgins of Johnson City and Shawn David Higgins of Albuquerque; a daughter, Heather (Jason) Higgins Meek of Dallas, TX; 3 grandchildren; mother, Margaret Gutschow Higgins of Lyons; two brothers, Thomas (Patty) Higgins of Mahwah, NJ and Craig Higgins of Apache Junction, AZ; a sister, Ann (William) Higgins McBride of Leonardtown, ND; several nieces. He was predeceased by his father, Nicholas Higgins II; and a brother, Nicholas Higgins III.

Bartleson, Leon - Leon James Bartleson, 82, of North Rose, died March 6, 2003. He was born and raised on the family farm in South Sodus. In 1983 Leon retired, and he and Ruth moved to North Rose. Leon is survived by his wife, Ruth (Clingerman); three daughters, Karen (Jack) Buzzell of Sodus, Betsy (Jack) McCranels of Lyons, Nancy Miller of Colorado; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, James C. and Jane (Caves) Bartleson.

Haers, Phillip - Phillip E. Haers, 62, of Phelps, died March 8, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. He was born October 30, 1940, in Clifton Springs, son of the late Philemon and Marjorie Bement Haers. He had worked since childhood in the family business, Phelps Cement Product, in which he is co-owner and had been president since 1980. He was a member of the New York State Concrete & Masonry Association, the National Rifle Association, the National Muzzleloaders Assn., National Wild Turkey Federation and Ducks Unlimited. He was a charter member of the Buckhorn Sportsmen's Club, the Lower Buckhorn Sportsmen's Club and several blackpowder gun clubs. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jane Rockefeller Haers; children, Edward (Kimberly) Haers of Phelps, Michelle (Rick) Thrasher of St. Petersburg, FL, Owen (Renee) Haers of Phelps, Deborah (Mike) Krajnc of Ontario, Canada, Sharon (Dale) Tanski of Buffalo, Brian (Jennifer) Speanburgh of Gorham, Main and David (Heather) Speanburgh of Cape Coral, FL; two brothers, Gerald (Joanne) Haers of Phelps, and Michael (Kathy) Haers of Phelps; 18 grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a devoted friend, Martha. Allen, Jack - Jack E. Allen, 68, of Palmyra, died March 8, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Geraldine Allen; three daughters, Deborah (Thomas) Klemann, Doreen (Harvey) Ihle and Denise Breen; two sons, Darcy (Ruth) Allen and Daniel Allen (Jean Graham); 13 grandchildren; sister, Mildred (Larry) Green; brother, Harland (Bonnie) Allen; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins; and loyal companion, Muffin. Mitich, Louis Jr. - Louis A. Mitich, Jr., 69, of Palmyra, died March 8, 2003. Louis was born December 21, 1933, a son to Louis and Ethel Orr Mitich, Sr. He married Wilma Turner in June 1961, and was a retired of Mobil Chemical in Macedon. Interment is in Palmyra Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter, Ethel Shaffer; son, Arthur Mitich; sister, Ruth Smith; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1976 by his wife, Wilma.

O'Neill, Violet - Violet M. O'Neill, 71, of Newark, died March 8, 2003 at her son's home in Wolcott. Violet was born in Ontario, on August 9, 1931, to Herman and Bertha Mintz Milke. She graduated from BOCES in 1973 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked as a nurse until 1998, when she retired from Newark Hospital. She enjoyed needlepoint and quilting and reading. She is survived by her three children, Donna (Carl) Valvano of Newark, Kevin (Paula) O'Neill of Wolcott and Timothy (Wendy) O'Neill of Kingstown, RI; 7 grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Dunlap of Marion and brother, Carl (Roz) Milke of St. Petersburg, FL. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry in 1970. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Williams, Caroline - Caroline Williams, 93, of Atlantis, Florida, died March 9, 2003 at the JFK Medical Center. Caroline was born in Newark, daughter of Stephen and Martha Thomas Comstock. She was a graduate of Walnut Hill School, class of 1927 and Russell Sage College, class of 1931. Caroline married Roger P. Williams in 1932. They moved to Atlantis in 1970. She is survived by her husband Roger and their daughter Linda Butler of South Hadley, MA. Spring interment in Newark Cemetery.

Monahan, Sister Dolores - Sister Dolores Monahan, SSJ, 61, formerly Sister Corita, died Feb. 10, 2003 at Living Center South in Geneva. A graduate of Nazareth Academy in Rochester, she entered the Convent at the Sisters of St. Joseph Monahan at her Motherhouse in September 1959 and took her final vows as a sister in July 1967. Sister Dolores received a B.A. degree from Nazareth College in 1972 and a Master of Science in Education in 1977. She completed courses in spirituality and retreat work at Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN. Her work in the Finger Lakes included assignments as a teacher at Catholic elementary schools in Auburn, Ithaca and Horseheads, and she was named principal at St. Patrick's School in Seneca Falls in 1975, through 1982. She taught classes in prayer at St. Michael School in Newark and was affiliated with Notre Dame Retreat House in Canandaigua. At the St. Stephen's Convent, she taught classes for mothers and children, and for adults interested in spirituality and prayer. She is survived by her brother Robert (Nancy) Monahan of Rochester; a niece and nephew and grandnephews; and her Sisters in the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Kuitems, Anita Rae - Anita Rae (Flanagan) Kuitems, 44, of Lyons, died suddenly on March 2, 2003. Survivors include her husband of 21 years, John H. Kuitems, and their children: Charles Dale Webb (Irene), Heather Rae Kuitems, Karen Catherine Kuitems, and grandson, Jordan Bradley Webb. She is survived by her family in Texas: her mother, Helen Jenkins; brothers: Mickel (Stephanie) Jenkins, their daughter Jessie; Jerry (Dawn) Jenkins, nieces and nephews, and dear friend, Linda Courtright and family. Anita was predeceased by her father, Rex A. Flanagan, grandparents James and Eddie Mae Koonce, and Aunt Sarah Gene Mikes.

Schinsing, Bernard - Bernard (Bernie) Schinsing, 71, died suddenly February 20, 2003, at his home in Belle Glade, Florida. He was born in Newark August 20, 1931, son of the late Winfred and Freda Schinsing. Mr. Schinsing served in the Army and was a long-time member of the Belle Glade American Legion. He is survived by brothers, Robert (Joan) Schinsing of Newark, Donald (Sharon) Schinsing of Geneva, sisters Mary Jane McGinnis of Marion, Ina (Alonzo) Smith of Phoenix, AZ, and twin sister Bernice Spafford of Phelps. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances, and brother Maynard Schinsing, and several nieces and nephews. Interment in Florida.

Pembroke, Leland - Leland J. Pembroke, 84, of Newark, died March 1, 2003 at DeMay Living Center. Leland was born April 7,1918 in West Walworth, to Jerome and Anna Dank Pembroke. He was an Army veteran; he served in World War II and received the bronze star. He was a member of the Arcadia Senior Citizens, Newark Grange and the First Baptist Church of Newark. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and he enjoyed bowling, playing cards and walking. He retired from Fold-Pak Co. in Newark with 43 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mabel Mollenkopf Pembroke; a stepson, Donald Andrews of Greece; two stepdaughters, Janet (Jack) Ward of California, and Sandra (Marshall) Francis of North Rose; daughter, Karen Pembroke of Newark; sister, Doris Vosburgh of Palmyra; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Interment will be in East Palmyra Cemetery in the spring.

Karge, Alvin - Alvin G. Karge, 70, of Clifton Springs, died February 27, 2003 at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. Alvin was born June 22, 1932 in Pennsylvania, to Ralph and Geraldine Karge. He lived in the Clifton Springs area for more than 45 years. He retired from Garlock in Palmyra after 38 years of service. He was active in the Clifton Springs Boy Scout Troop 59 for more than 25 years. He was an avid outdoorsman. He is survived by Anne, his loving wife of 46 years; children, Wanda (Jay) Orlopp, Mike Karge, Steven (Jill) Karge and Scott (Sharon) Karge, all of Clifton Springs, and Jason (Nicole) Karge of Newark; 10 grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, all in Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews. Interment in Port Gibson Cemetery.

Ordway, Diane - Diane L. Van Gorder Ordway, 59, of Newark, died February 24, 2003 at the Hospeace House in Naples, after a battle with cancer. Diane was born February 28, 1943 at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. She worked for 23 years as a machine operator at Paul T. Freund Corp. in Palmyra. She took early retirement so she could spend more time at home. She loved nature and taking long walks; she was caretaker for the entire family and especially her grandson. She is survived by her partner, Jorge Sanchez, 63, of Newark; son, Thomas Ordway, 42, of Newark; daughter, Cathy M. Foti, 34, of Palmyra; sister, Theresa VanGorder-Scott, 44, of Newark; grandchildren, Travis Brent of Palmyra and Jamie Ordway of Fairport; six nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles S. Ordway of Lyons, July 16, 1989.

Safford, Clarissa - Clarissa E. Safford, 80, of Newark, died February 26, 2003 at the Newark Hospital. Clarissa was born March 14, 1922 to Lorenzo 'Ren' and Nellie Fayette Wood. She retired from Newark Developmental Center as a certified nurse's assistant after 18 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Newark. She is survived by four daughters: Beverly Safford of Canandaigua, Gail Safford of Rochester, Charlene Volpe of Malone, Sandra Safford of Auburn; three sons: Terry Lee, Steven (Sue) and Brian, all of Newark; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Grace Easley of Klamath Falls, OR; nieces and nephews; former husband, Walter H. Safford; and special friend, Kathy Woodside. She was predeceased by sisters, Vivian Jabcuba, Gladys Ledger, and Hazel Campbell; brothers, Orin, Floyd, Harland and Kelmer Wood; and twin brothers, Millard and Westford Wood. Arquieta, Moses - Moses P. Arquieta, 50, of Los Angeles, died suddenly on February 13, 2003. Johnson, Pauline - Pauline K. Johnson, 89, of Phelps, died February 5, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Mrs. Johnson was born at home in Phelps, along with her twin brother Emerick, April 25, 1913. She was the daughter of Camiel and Angelina VanDemortel Raes. She retired from G.W. Lisk in 1978. She is survived by her son Frederick Lee (Margaret) Johnson of Phelps; daughter Elaine (Ronald) Bliek of Marion; grandchildren Kathleen (John) Duchesneau of Phelps, Fred (Laurie) Johnson of Seneca Castle; Ronald Bliek of Fairport, Michael Bliek of Marion, and Tracy (John) Pagliuso of Marion; seven great-grandchildren; sisters Margaret Snyder of Webster and Irene (Robert) Douglas of Union Springs; brother, Clarence (Shirley) Raes of Geneva; several nieces and nephews. Burgess, Keith - Keith A. Burgess, 49, of Clifton Springs, died unexpectedly February 20, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Keith ('Geez') was born September 25, 1953, in Canandaigua, the son of Charles and Anne Burgess, and had lived in the area all of his life. He was a 1973 graduate of Midlakes High School, active in the football program. Keith was active in the Clifton Springs Softball League and was an avid outdoorsman. Keith was a mason. He is survived by two sons, Matthew (Janie) Burgess of Canandaigua and Lance Burgess of Canandaigua; his parents, Charles and Anne Burgess of Clifton Springs; two sisters, Linda (Ivan) Youngman of Clifton Springs, and Dawn (Steve) DeMay of Newark; foster brothers, Pete Shirley of Clifton Springs and Rodger Shirley of Geneva; two nieces, and special friend, Nancy Colf. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles. Interment in Brookside Cemetery, Shortsville.

Wahl, Bruce - Bruce E. Wahl, 29, of Wolcott, died February 19, 2003 in Florida. He is survived by his fiancee, Kandra L. Youngman of Clifton Springs; mother, Margaret Wahl of Wolcott; two sisters, Tracey (Mitchell) Ferre of Williamson and Amy Jo Wahl of Wolcott; 1 brother, Charles C. Lockley, Carlton - Carlton J. 'Curly' Lockley, 74, of Williamson, died February 14, 2003. He was born in Sodus. After years in Williamson he moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1985. He had been a fruit farmer, assessor and building inspector for Williamson. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Collier Lockley; daughters, Connie Gauronski of Bemus Point, Linda Steurrys of Fort Mills, SC, Juanita Verstraete of Williamson, Anne Raham of Pulaski, Nancy Mathis and Sharon Miller both of Bradenton; sister, Beatrice Follette of Lehigh Acres, FL; brothers, Edward and Alden both of Williamson, and James of Altona, NY; 10 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; nieces, nephews and one aunt. Miller, Charles - Charles H. 'Chuck' Miller, 63, of Lyons/Canandaigua, died February 20, 2003. Chuck was a professor of Physical Education for 32 years at Finger Lakes Community College. He is survived by his wife, Victoria Sculli Miller; his mother, Esther Miller of Brocton; his brother, Jerry of Binghamton; sister-in-law, Marie (Bill) DeWolf; brother-in-law, John Sculli; nieces and nephews.

Edmonds, Arnold - Arnold R. Edmonds, 67, of Newark, died February 25, 2003 at Newark hospital. Arnold was born August 2, 1935 in Adams, to Harold and Marie Wool Edmonds. He attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in North Rose. Arnold enjoyed riding horses and volunteering at the Wayne County Humane Society. Survivors include his sister Donna (Edman) Emmons; brother Robert (Sandy) Marshall; nieces Esther (Salvatae) Alcamo and Deborah (Emad) Emmons-Andarawin; cousins and many friends at Finger Lakes DDSO. Tatro, Cody - Cody Tatro, 26, died Sunday, February 16, 2003 in a motor vehicle accident in California. Tatro, formerly of Newark, resided in Walnut Creek, CA and was a physical education teacher at Charlotte Wood Middle School. Cody was born May 9, 1976 to Mary and John 'Chip' Tatro. He grew up in Newark, attended Newark schools through eighth grade, and went to Fairport High School. He went to the University of Maine on a football scholarship. He was a mountain biker and rock climber and also skied, swam and worked out in the gym. He earned his master's degree last fall in physical education.Tatro was one of the youngest teachers at Charlotte Wood. He was in his third year of teaching and coached girls lacrosse at San Ramon Valley High School. He is survived by his father John 'Chip' (Pam) Tatro of Fairport; his mother, Mary Tatro of Farmington; brothers, Christopher (Andrea) of Omaha, Nebraska; brother and sister Zachary and Alexandra of Fairport; maternal grandmother, Margaret Larham; paternal grandfather, William Tatro; aunts, uncles and cousins. Interment will be in White Haven Memorial Park.

Kusio, Mary - Mary A. Kusio, 58, died February 17, 2003 at her home in Newark. Mary was born July 3, 1944 in Watertown, to George and Alice Singleton Baker. She was a life member of the Port Gibson Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and was active in the Paul Smiths College Alumni Council. She was the owner of Kusio Insurance in Newark. She is survived by her daughter, Anne (Paul) Fordham of Clyde; sister Jayne Tremain of Lebanon, PA; grandchildren Seth and Ethan Fordham; former husband Ronald Kusio; special friend Sandy Henline of Port Gibson; two nieces. Mary was predeceased in 1998 by her son, Richard W. Kusio, and by her brother George Baker, Jr. Interment will be in Port Gibson Cemetery.

Peters, Helen - Helen (Fitzgerald) Peters, 88, died Feb. 10, 2003 in Florida. She was born Feb. 9, 1915. She had been a Senior Companion at the Newark Developmental Center for 15 years. Calletto, Catherine - Catherine 'Aunt Kitty' Calletto, 95, died February 15, 2003 at DeMay Living Center in Newark. Aunt Kitty was born July 12, 1907, daughter of Dominic and Caroline Trombino Contario. She worked at Hallagan Manufacturer for many years. She also ran her own seamstress business. She was well known for her draperies, slipcovers and her homemade apple pie. She was a member of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by her special children: Donna (Gary) Stevens, Joan (Tom) DeJohn, Bucky Contario and Joe (Darlene) Contario; sister, Angeline Gullo of Newark; nieces, Elizabeth Gullo and Anita (Hugh) Crowley; nephews, Robert (Vi) Gullo and Edward (Joan) Gullo; 15 grandchildren, Jason and Josh DeJohn, Ben Burkins, Scott, Michael, Peter, Carolyn, Anne, Rose, Jeffrey, Joseph, Katie and Jesse Contario, Pam Grant and Rosa Hailstork; three great-grandchildren, Kate, Jack and Anthony; great-nieces and great-nephews; and special friends. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Joseph A. who died January 11, 1983; precious twin daughters, Carol Ann and Carolyn; and brothers, Frank and Myron Contario. Brown, Gerald - Gerald A. Brown, 68, of Marion died February 13, 2003. Gerald is survived by his wife Barbara; children, Corlis (James) Campbell, Jacqueline (Calvin) Spinner, Vern Brown, David (Trina) Brown and Stephen (Jacqueline) Brown; 14 grandchildren; sisters, Florence (Paul) Zuber and Evelyn (Lowell) Lovejoy; several nieces and nephews. Barnhart, Homer - Homer LeRoy Barnhart, 93, of Henrietta, died February 15, 2003. After retiring from his fruit and dairy farm in Ontario, he and his wife Laura retired to Little River, SC. He and his son Phillip returned to the Sodus Bay area in 1994. In 2002, Mr. Barnhart attended his 75-year reunion from the Ontario/Wayne Central High School. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly James of Henrietta; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; cousins, nieces, nephew and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura in 1991 and son Phillip in 2002.

Rodriguez, Paula - Paula Rodriguez, 74 of Newark, died Friday, February 14, 2003 at Highland Hospital. Paula was born July 18, 1928 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, to Francisco and Felicita Santiago Rodriguez. She had worked as a housekeeper in Puerto Rico and in Newark at Seneca Foods. Mrs. Rodriguez enjoyed her church, gardening and animals. She is survived by her husband, Modesto Rodriguez; sons, Santos (Daisy), Modesto (Terry) and Ange Rodriguez, Jr.; daughters, Carmen, Maria (Edwin) and Aida Luz (Amardo) Rodriguez; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Rodriguez was predeceased by her son, Angel Rodriguez, and sister, Arcadia Rodriguez.

Hamelinck, Inez - Inez Hamelinck, 91, of Newark, died February 17, 2003. Inez was born Dec. 27, 1911 in Italy, daughter of Joseph and Julia Vangelisti. She came to America at age nine. She was a bookkeeper for Marion Foods, retiring at age 72. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth 'Betty' (Frank) Colasurdo of Newark; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Thomas, James and Ann Marie; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Foti of Newark, Joanne Masco of Boynton Beach, FL, and Margaret Pasalacqua of Plattsburgh; a brother, David Zomeri of Buffalo; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, August, in 2000; a son, Joseph, in 1984, and a sister, Rita Sanseverino, in 1999. Interment will be in the Newark Cemetery.

Clark, Frances - Frances E. Clark, 84, of Newark, died February 19, 2003 at the DeMay Living Center. Frances was born November 29, 1918 in Newark, to John and Alice Jacking Lewis. She was a bookkeeper for C.W. Stuart Inc., retiring in 1981. She was a member of Park Presbyterian Church and the Amite Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid bowler and member of the WIBC. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Roger H. Clark; son, William (Joan) Clark of Newark; daughter, Shirley (William) Hoot of Joy, NY; three brothers, Harry (Jean) Lewis of Newark, Gilbert Lewis of Newark, and Edwin (Ann) Lewis of Geneva; sister, Dorothy Chapman of Palmyra; grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan, Sara Ann Hoot, and Miranda Clark; one great-grandson, Andrew Hoot. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Lewis. Interment will be in the Newark Cemetery.

Herman, Bernadine - Bernadine H. Herman, 88, of Sodus, died on February 16, 2003 in the Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. She was predeceased by her husband, John and 13 brothers and sisters. She is survived by 2 sons, Robert (Cynthia) Herman of Sodus and Nelson (Jeanne) Herman of Daytona Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren, Sandra (John) Hopkins and Diana (Ron) Reynolds both of Sodus, Jeffrey Turri, Nelson Herman II and Christopher (Mary) Herman all of FL; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the United Third Methodist Church of Sodus, the Rebekah Lodge and a 67-year member of the Sodus Grange.

Velotte, Anne - Anne P. Velotte, 86, of Lyons, died Feb. 17, 2003. Anne was born in Newark, September 4, 1916. She was a 70-year member of Lyons Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder, was on the church memorial fund committee, and a choir member. She was a graduate of Brockport State Teachers College in 1939 and was an elementary school teacher for 36 years at Durand Eastman School, East Irondequoit. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, International Honor Society for Women Educators. She was a member of the Wayne County Retired Teachers Assoc; Rochester Retired Teachers Assoc., East Irondequoit Teachers Assoc; NYS Retired Teachers Assoc; life member of the PTA. She was a member of the Rochester Philharmonic; Wayne County Historical Society; Wayne County Republican Womens Club; Friends of the Lyons Public Library - where she served as treasurer of memorial funds. She will be remembered as director of Wayne County Health Camp on Lake Ontario and as social director for the Higby Club on Big Moose Lake. She is survived by a sister, Jean V. Ohst and brother-in-law, Edward B. Ohst of St. Petersburgh, FL; sister-in-law, M. Jane Velotte, Largo, FL; niece, Linda A. Instone, Seminole, FL; nephew, Brian E. Ohst, Smithtown, Long Island; four great-nephews; many cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, William H. Velotte Jr., in March 2002. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Cyr, Hazel - Hazel B. Cyr, 90, of Newark, died February 10, 2003 at Newark Manor Nursing Home. Hazel was born July 13, 1912 in New Sweden, Maine, to Stephen and Meade Langley Dow. She moved from Maine to Newark in 1974 and was a communicant of St. Michael's Church. She is survived by two daughters, A. June Cyr and Betty (Ronald) Howlett, both of Newark; two sons, David (Catharine) Cyr of Uncasville, CT and Daniel of Westville, ME; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased Feb. 12, 1994 by her husband Ralph; by seven brothers and sisters. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Morandi, Thomas - Thomas A. Morandi, 92, of Lyons, died February 12, 2003. He was a self-employed musician. Mr. Morandi is survived by his sister, Mary R. Carroll of Newark; nieces, Alice (Herbert) Olson of Lyons, Anne (Gene) Young and Geralding Pulver of Rochester, Bernadine (Bruce) Warren of Canandaigua; great-nieces and great-nephews. Smith, Willard - Willard Smith, 80, of Palmyra, died February 10, 2003. He is survived by son, Lawrence J. (Beverly) Smith; daughter Kathleen A. (Wayne) Henning; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister, Betty P. Decker; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1979 by his wife, Beatrice. Lyon, Janet - Janet Lyon, 93, of Newark, died February 3, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Janet was born July 20, 1909 in Norwalk, Ohio to John and Donna Wisner Lyon. She collected dolls and enjoyed music, crafts and flowers. She is survived by many cousins, including Betty McMillen of Indiana; and friends and staff at the Finger Lakes DDSO. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery in Lowell, Michigan.

Crum, Diane - Diane L. Crum, 43, died February 1, 2003 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital. Diane was born May 13, 1959 in Newark, the daughter of Franklin and Doris Strouse Orbaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clifton Springs, and had been a member of the Fairville Presbyterian Church. She was a member and past president of the Fairville Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary, and for many years was the 'coffee lady' at the Lenten fish fries at the fire hall. She was a member of the New York State Steam Engine Association. Diane was a donor recipient of a liver in 1988 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Walter C. Crum, of Clifton Springs; her mother, Doris (Donald) Craig, of Palmyra; brother, Frank Orbaker of Fairville and two nieces, Beatrice and Darcianne Orbaker. She was predeceased by her father, Franklin Orbaker, in 1997. Interment will be in Fairville Cemetery.

Lieberman, Hattie - Hattie Lieberman, a longtime resident of Newark, died February 2, 2003 in Puerto Rico, where she spent the winters. Hattie was born November 3, 1912 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Abraham and Yetta Weinberg Sloane. She was a legal secretary before retiring, having worked for many years for Judge James D. Hurley and Avery Robinson, both of Newark. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Zayas of Luquillo, Puerto Rico and Harriet Gamble of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Morris Lieberman, in 1989.

Klym, John - John Klym, 82, died February 2, 2003 at the Ontario County Nursing Facility. Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery in the spring. John was born July 30, 1920 in Manchester, to Anthony and Catherine Chunko Klym. He was a World War II Army infantry veteran, serving in the European Theatre, and was decorated with the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Palmyra VFW. He was a member of St. Dominic's Church; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and working at the Rochester Car Shop. He had retired from the Fairport School District. He is survived by his sister, Mary (Richard) Baier, of Newark; nephews, Robert (Susan) Boerjan of Clifton Springs, Tristan (Deborah) Baler and Eric (Agnes) Baier; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.

Orbaker, Myron - Myron E. Orbaker, 92, of Williamson, died January 31, 2003 at Newark Hospital. He was C.E.O. and President of Sunset Farms, Newark and was the original owner of Orbaker's Hot Dog Stand in Williamson. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Williamson and a life member of the National Skeet Shooting Assn. During retirement, he spent hours crafting doll houses, rocking horses and toys, which he donated to charitable organizations in Florida and New York. He is survived by his wife, Alberta; his son, Richard (Sally); his granddaughter, Kristen (Mark) Toor; grandson, Jared (Robyn Wright) Orbaker; great-granddaughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Toor; niece, Barbara (James) DeFisher; aunt, Jennie Pattist of Cornith; nieces and cousins.

Vanderstine, Ellen - Ellen Marie Vanderstine, 59, died January 28, 2003 after a three-year battle with cancer. Ellen was born October 28, 1943 in Trenton, New Jersey. She lived most of her life in New York. She worked for 28 years for the State of New York as a supervisor, and a coordinator for the developmentally disabled in Newark. For six years she was living in Ehrenberg, Arizona and working for the Blythe Nursing Care Center. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Donald Vanderstine; son, John Vanderstine (Blythe, California), daughter, Victoria Kaye Alford (Sacramento); step-sons, Adrian and Donald Vanderstine, both in California; eight grandchildren; her brothers, Jack Miner (NY), Alan Fairrock (NY), Robert Fairrock (CA), Paul Miner (NY); sisters, Patricia Miner (Dennert, MI), Margaret Miner (FL), and step-father, Carl Miner (FL); extended family and close friends throughout New York, New Jersey, Indiana and California. Ellen was predeceased by her mother Maja-Lisa (Mickey) Miner in 1993 and her father Rocco Fairrock in 1962.

Krocke, Jacob - Jacob Johannes Krocke, 84, of Marion, died January 31, 2003 at DeMay Living Center. Jacob was born Sept. 27, 1918 in Holland, to Adrian and Maatje Leunes Krocke. He owned and operated the Krocke Farms on Joy Road, Town of Sodus since 1948. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family. He will be missed by his wife of 61 years, Maria S. VanderLycke Krocke; son, Peter (Joyce) Krocke; daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Levis and Susan Steurrys, both of Marion; six grandchildren; two great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.

Hubbard, Vera - Vera E. Palmer Hubbard, 90, died January 27, 2003. Vera was born August 23, 1912, in Utica, and was a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Nursing, Class of 1934. She worked for many years at Clifton Springs Hospital. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bleistein of Clifton Springs; son, George Hubbard of Rochester; one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters; sisters-in-law; cousins; and dear friends. She was predeceased 1993 by her husband, Irving. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, March 2 at 2 p.m. at the Spa Apartments Chapel in Clifton Springs.

Howland, Jeffrey - Jeffrey T. Howland, 40, of Marion, died February 1, 2003. He was an employee of Dan Schreiber Farms in Ontario and was a member of the Williamson Orphix Fraternity. He is survived by his children, Jenna Howland, Zachary Howland, and Garrett Johnstone; his parents, Leon and Joan (DeGraff) Howland of Marion; sister, Susan (James) Johnston of Chili; grandmother, Georgia Howland of Marion. He was predeceased by his sister, Bonnie Lopez.

DeRuyter, Leo - Leo DeRuyter, 94 of Phelps, died February 2, 2003. He is survived by his sons, Bernard DeRuyter of Clifton Springs, Levers (Rosemary) DeRuyter of Palmyra, Carl (Emily) DeRuyter of Spencerport; sister, Sally Keeler of Phelps; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Andrew DeRuyter and sister, Rose Goodman; and daughter-in-law, Shirley DeRuyter.

Ward, Jean - Jean E. Neels Ward, 77, of Florida/Sodus, died January 27, 2003. Jean was born January 30, 1925 in Sodus, where she lived for 30 years. She had worked for many years as a retail clerk at K-Mart. Mrs. Ward belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary Post #2297 in Lakeland, Florida. Mrs. Ward is survived by her sons, Ronald (MaryJane) Neels of Ohio and Donald (Linda) Neels of Oswego; daughters, Joan (William) Clark of Newark and Jane (James) Hopkins of Sodus; she has eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in August 2002 by her husband, Hadwen Ward.

Petty, Dorothy - Dorothy Y. Petty, 90, of Walworth, died February 3, 2003 at DeMay Living Center in Newark. She was predeceased by her husband, Floyd; and daughter, Shirley Petty, a teacher at Lincoln School. She is survived by a daughter, Elaine Hay of Spencerport; grandchildren, David (Angela) Hay, of Greece and Julie (Todd) Olix of Churchville; three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a retired teacher from Wayne Central and a member of the United Methodist Church of Walworth.

Erway, Ralph - Ralph Horton Erway, 84, of Ashton Place, Clifton Springs, died February 4, 2003. The eldest son of Matthews Erway and Gertrude Horton Erway, Ralph was born August 4, 1918 in East Rochester. As a teen, he moved with his family to Canandaigua Lake. He graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1938. It was near Canandaigua Lake where he met his wife, Ruth C. Keppler. They were married August 24, 1940. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy from September 1943 to February 1946. He served in the Pacific aboard the destroyer escort USS Hanna. After the war, he was employed by Eastman Kodak and Rochester General Hospital. Mr. Erway was self-employed for many years as owner of Cottage City Trading Post and the Rushville IGA Market. He was a founding member of the Canandaigua Baptist Church and active in all aspects of the church for 40 years. He served as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and a Bible study leader for the Ontario County Prison Ministry. Mr. Erway was a member of the Rushville Lions Club and the Gideons International. He demonstrated his creativity through oil painting and gardening. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Keppler Erway; daughters R. Sally (Edgar) Eshleman of Bloomfield, Jill E. (Lawrence) Shattuck of West Point; son, James R. (Suzanne) Erway of Newark; eight grandchildren; brother, M. Robert (Jane) Erway of Rush; two nieces, one nephew, two cousins. Spring interment will be in Overacker Cemetery.

Critelli, Rosalie - Rosalie S. Critelli, 87, after a long illness, died January 24, 2003 at her home in Newark. Rosalie was born in Newark on Nov. 2, 1915, the daughter of Joseph and Mary DiSanto DeLisio, and she grew up in Clyde. She was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Newark and had been a member of the Rosary and Altar Society. Mrs. Critelli was a seamstress at Hallagan Manufacturing; for more than 20 years she worked at Sarah Coventry Jewelry, retiring in 1977. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Thomas F., three loving daughters, Patricia (Eugene Sr.) Mason of Newark, Marilyn (Stephen) Thomson of Williamson, and Mary Alice Nicoletta of Newark; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Anthony (Josie) and Leonard (Jewel) DeLisio of Clyde; sister, Delores (Arthur) Paradise of Syracuse; sister-in-law Irene DeLisio of Clyde; nieces and nephews. Mrs. Critelli was predeceased by a son-in-law, Dr. Robert J. Nicoletta, Sr. and a brother, John DeLisio. Interment in Newark Cemetery.

Goodwin, Esther - Esther VanAntwerp Goodwin, 97, formerly of Weedsport, died January 18, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home in Lyons. Esther was born July 22, 1905, in Port Byron, the daughter of Guy A. and Lena Hastings Van Antwerp. She was the widow of the late Dr. Clinton E. Goodwin of Weedsport. She is survived by six nephews: Frank (Dottie) Quinn, Larry Quinn and Michael Quinn, all of Lyons, James and George Ball of Weedsport, and Guy Ball of Bloomfield; two great-nieces, Tara Quinn of Chicago and Shannon Quinn of North Rose; step-grandchildren, Roy Bibbens of Auburn, Priscilla Inglis of Clifton Springs and Debbie Bibbens of Weedsport. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Clinton E. Goodwin, in 1957; three sisters, Litha Ball, Dorothy Brouse and Lenabelle Quinn; stepson, Dwight, 'Doc' Goodwin; step-daughter, Phoebe Bibbens; and step-granddaughter, Donzelle Finazzo. Levandoski, Taylor - Taylor Mattea Levandoski, 7, died January 22, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Taylor was a second-grade student at Perkins Elementary School in Newark. Farnsworth, Ida - Ida Mae Farnsworth, 87, of Central Square, died January 24, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse. Ida was born May 9, 1915, in Reading, to William and Eleanor Morse Hall. She retired from Swanson Cleaners in Syracuse. She enjoyed knitting and crafts. She is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Mae (William) Cook of Central Square; one son, Frank W. (Judy) Farnsworth Jr. of North Syracuse; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased Aug. 27, 1997 by her husband, Frank. Foss, 'Zeke' - Emerson F. 'Zeke' Foss, 85, of Williamson, died January 23, 2003. He was a Purple Heart Recipient and Prisoner of War during WWII, and a retiree of Genesee Brewery. He was a life member of the VFW of Newark Post #2883, and American Legion Post #2883 of Winter Haven, FL. 'Zeke' is survived by his wife, Joyce (Balch) Foss; sons, James of Ontario, Gene of FL, Charles (Lee Ann) of Newark, Richard of East Rochester; stepson, Raymond Balch and Ellen Arndt of Seneca Falls; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; half-brothers, Joe of Williamson and Kenneth of OK; nieces and nephews. Dapolito, Philip - Philip J. Dapolito, 82, died January 28, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Philip was born April 24, 1920 in Clyde, to Philip and Antonia Santoli Dapolito. A lifelong resident of Clyde, Phil and Lucy Ann Salerno were married October 17, 1942 in St. John's Church. He was an Army veteran from WWII. He was a member of St. John's Church. Phil enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a sports fan. He is survived by his daughter Marilyn (David) Hogle of Saranac Lake; sons, Thomas Dapolito of Newark, and Paul Dapolito of Clyde; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased February 16, 1994 by his wife Lucy; by sisters Flora Kinsley, Mary Iocco and Frances Bartley, and brothers, Ted and Joseph Dapolito. Walker, Nathan - Nathan R. Walker, 80, of Phelps, died January 15, 2003 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Nathan was born July 12, 1922 in Livonia, to Nathan Redfield and Lucy Rynearson Walker. He was a graduate of Newark High School, Class of 1940, and was a resident of Newark and Phelps. Mr. Walker served in the Army Air Force from November 1942 to October 1948. During World War II, Nathan advanced to First Lieutenant and served as a B-17 navigator on 35 missions based out of Podington, England. He was awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Cross for Meritorious Achievement over Germany in 1944. He was employed by the New York Central Railroad for 15 years prior to becoming postmaster of the Phelps Post Office in 1962, retiring in 1983. He had been a member of the Phelps Rotary Club since 1963 and was awarded the district honor of the Paul Harris Fellows Award. He served as president in 1970-71 and most recently as secretary. Mr. Walker was a member of the United Church of Phelps and was a longtime member of the Clifton Springs Country Club, where he pursued his favorite pastime, golf. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Helen Taylor Armitage Walker, also a Newark High School, Class of 1940 graduate; son, William Scott (Sandra M.) Walker of Saltillo, MS; grandsons, Christopher of Newark and Eric of Mississippi; grandchildren, Jason Eddington and Sarah Eddington (Elkannah IV) Young of Canandaigua; great-grandsons Brian Walker and Nathan Young; step-children, Karen Armitage (Herman) Parcero of Newark, Denise Armitage Cully of Fountain Valley, CA and Douglas (Ann) Armitage of Colleyville, TX; step-grandchildren, Anthony Parcero of Georgia, Valerie (Joe DeRomanis) Parcero of Rochester, Kristen and Timothy Cully of CA and Kathleen Armitage of Texas. He was predeceased by his son, John David and daughter, Kimberly Walker Eddington Oliver. Interment in Lodi Cemetery.

Cook, Edwin - Edwin 'Ed' Leonard Cook, 87, of Newark died January 17, 2003 at Newark Hospital. Mr. Cook was born April 16, 1915, in Newark, to Christopher and Armeda Smith Cook. He worked for Newark Developmental Center for over 40 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse. He was a member of the Arcadia Reformed Church and a member of the Newark Volunteer Fire Department, NY Central Hose Co. #5, joining on June 1, 1947. He was a past member of the Order of Odd Fellows. Mr. Cook was a great fan of baseball, basketball and bowling. Earlier in his life he played baseball for the Newark State School and bowled on a league in Lyons. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Mary Kane Cook; daughter, Cheryl (Charles) Wofford of Washington state; grandchildren, Joshua and Yasmin Wofford of Washington state; sister, Esther Glerum of Gloversville; several nieces, nephews; and many friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Gordon. Interment in the Newark Cemetery.

Walters, Dr. Harold - Harold Bower Walters, DVM, 91, of Williamson, died January 18, 2003 following complications from a fall. Dr. Walters was born on April 6, 1911 in Newark, the son of Harry and Sybil Walters. After his early education in Newark, he went to Cornell University. He graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1934. A lifelong resident of Wayne County, Dr. Walters first set up his practice in Newark, moving to Williamson in 1945. He continued in large animal work until 1955, when he joined the practice of Weber Bros. Small Animal Hospital, University Ave., Rochester. After retirement from the Rochester office, Dr. Walters continued small animal work in Williamson and at Marshall Farms in North Rose, until two years ago. At that time he was the oldest practicing veterinarian in New York State. He is survived by his son, David (Susan) Walters of Walworth; their children, Jennifer (Scott) Smith of Sodus, Geoffrey Walters of Colorado; his daughter, Diane (David) VanLare of Marion, their children, Andrew VanLare of Rochester and Laura (Jamie) Eggleston of Schenectady; three great-grandchildren; a cousin, Everett Gardner of Rochester; sister-in-law, Norma Walters of Palmyra; nephew, Thomas Walters; niece, Kathryn Barnard. He was predeceased in 1997 by his wife, Ethel Wunder Walters and by his brother, John Walters in 2002. Since 2000, Dr. Walters resided at Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus, where he continued to enjoy visits from family, friends and his cat, Tipper.

Carr, Helen - Helen Carr, 85, of Clyde, died January 17, 2003 at the Sunnyside Nursing Home in East Syracuse. Helen was born August 12, 1917 in Dupont, PA, daughter of Anthony and Anna Domoraski Romanowski. She had lived in the Syracuse area most of her life and was a hairdresser at the Powder Puff Beauty Shop in Syracuse. She moved to Clyde in the early 1980's and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by 12 step-children: Joseph (Joyce) Carr, Richard (Rita) Carr, Timothy Carr, Beverly (Donald) Van Hoover and Charlotte (Thomas) Damick, all of Newark; John (Barbara) Carr of Waterloo, Robert (Rita) Carr, Barbara (Edward) Rosa and Donald (Lois) Carr; all of Grants Pass, OR, Charles Carr of Portland, OR, Mary Waddle of Niagara Falls, and Margaret (Norman) Percy of Riviera Beach, FL; one grandson; nieces and nephews; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two husbands, Edmund Majeski in 1979 and Joseph Carr in 1991; and her son, Edmund Majeski in 2001.

Bade, Elizabeth - Elizabeth Bade, 90, of Newark, died January 15, 2003 at the DeMay Living Center. Elizabeth was born January 4, 1913 in the Town of Arcadia to William and Elizabeth DeHollander DeWispelaere. She had worked for Bloomer Brothers and then RusPak. Mrs. Bade enjoyed gardening, flowers and traveling with her husband. She was a member of the Hudson Club. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William Bade; son and daughter-in-law Robert J. and Sharon Bade of Marion; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, William DeWispelaere of Lyons; sister, Sarah Naeye of Palmyra; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Boucher in 1994, by one brother and five sisters. Interment, East Newark Cemetery.

Rogers, Donald - Donald Lewis Rogers, 79, of Marion, died December 30, 2002. He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Agnes Lash Rogers and brothers, Ralph and Harold. He is survived by his sister, Anna Lester of Wolcott; nieces, Barbara (Larry) Willis of Wolcott, Caroline Sanford of Newark; nephews, Duane Lester of Ohio and Richard Lester of Marcy; grandniece, Marla Sanford of Newark; grandnephews, John (Janice) Benjamin of TN, Scott (Melissa) of Red Creek, and Derek Sanford of Newark; one great-grandniece, four great-grandnephews, and several cousins. Kozak, Nicholas - Nicholas J. Kozak Jr., 55, of Williamson, died January 19, 2003. He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Anna Holmes Kozak. He is survived by his son, Nicholas J. Kozak III, daughters, Melissa and Kristina Kozak; brothers, Gerald, Kenneth, and Raymond Kozak, and Robert Holmes; sister Doreen and sisters-in-law Shirley and Marie; nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mr. Kozak was a Vietnam Veteran and a member of Palmyra VFW Post #6778.

VanHooft, Peter - Peter L. VanHooft, 77, of Phelps, died January 19, 2003. Peter was born September 12, 1925 to the late Peter and Emma VanHooft, and had lived in this area all of his life. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Mr. VanHooft retired the American Can Co. in Geneva in 1977. He was a member of the Phelps American Legion Post and was a member of the VFW in Geneva. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. He is survived by his former wife, Ellouise, of Newark; his children, James VanHooft of Lyons, Renee (Howard) DeRue of Newark, and Sheree (Dannel) Lawrence of Phelps; two sisters, Arlene Foss of Newark and Erma Milliman of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Buyck, Lorraine - Lorraine R. Buyck, 77, of Lyons, died January 21, 2003 at Pines of Peace. She was born January 22, 1925 in Lyons, to George and Emily Ottnod Redmon. She was a bookkeeper for AgChem in Sodus and for New York Bell as an operator in Sodus. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, honorary member of the Sodus Town Ambulance Corps, member of Twigs at Myers Hospital and member of Home Bureau. She is survived by her husband, Elmer; son, James (Karen) of Sodus; sister, Vada Broach of Lyons; grandson, Andrew of Buffalo; one aunt, Genevieve Bardmaker of Lyons; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by grandson Sgt. Jason A. Buyck in December 2000.

Tucker, Erictisha - Erictisha Juanita Rose Tucker, 16, of Lyons died January 19, 2003 at Newark Hospital following an automobile accident. Erictisha was born March 10, 1986 in Rochester, the daughter of Eric and Wanda Brantley Tucker, Sr. She was a sophomore at Lyons High School. She played volleyball and varsity basketball. She attended Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her mother, Wanda Brantley; her father, Eric Tucker, Sr. of Syracuse; four sisters: Yvonne Brantley of Lyons, Shaquana and Erica Tucker of Lyons, and Precious Tucker of Syracuse; six brothers: Tyrone and Craig Brantley of Lyons, Erick Tucker, Jr. of Lyons, and Shaquelle, Erick II and Derrick Tucker of Syracuse; her grandmothers, Juanita Bell of Lyons and Rose Tucker of Rochester; many uncles, aunts and cousins. Spring burial in South Lyons Cemetery.

Humeston, Alice - Alice Soverhill Humeston, 102, formerly of 816 South Main Street, Newark, died at St. Ann's Home in Rochester on January 7, 2003. Alice was born August 6, 1900 in Newark, daughter of Robert and Grace (Clark) Soverhill. She was the widow of Ira Humeston, retired plant superintendent of the Bloomer Bros. Company; Ira Humeston died in 1954. Their daughter Shirley Vickery died in 2002. Surviving are grandchildren, Stephen (Betty) Vickery of Rochester, Judi (Ed) Wooley of California, Kathy (St. John), Sue (David) Savage of Colorado; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; niece Sandra Miner of Penfield, and nephew Lindorf Pulver of Newark. She was predeceased by her brother Clark Soverhill and sister, Katherine Beales. She had been a member of Park Presbyterian Church.

Weeks, Maudie - Maudie Hewitt Weeks died January 7, 2003, at Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus, after a long illness. Maudie was a native of Vermont, raised in Auburn, graduated from Mansfield State College in Pennsylvania, did graduate work at Syracuse University, and was certified as a social worker by NYS. She was a pioneering social planner who achieved national attention for creating Hope Village, the nation's first rural cooperatively-owned housing development for low-income people. Her work with Hope Village began only after she had retired from a long career that included several years as an elementary school teacher and social worker. Indeed, it was while teaching in an impoverished coal town in eastern Pennsylvania that she was first drawn to social work. After her son was diagnosed as suffering from Down Syndrome, she helped organize a school for retarded children, and, in subsequent years, worked to create a sheltered workshop. She was supported throughout her career by her husband, Edwin R. Weeks, a design engineer for Crouse-Hinds, and, later, Xerox. They also shared a passion for boating, especially sailboats. For many years, they were part of a summer community at Farley's Point on Cayuga Lake and took part in sail-boat racing there. Later, after the family moved in 1969 to Shaker Heights overlooking Lake Ontario, they became active in the Sodus Bay Waterways Association, and the Red Jacket Power Squadron. The Jefferson Award was presented to Weeks in 1986 by WTVH Syracuse. She was also inducted into the Farmworker Advocate Hall of Fame in 1993 in recognition of her helping seasonal workers. She was predeceased by three children, daughters Joan and Peggy, and son Eddie (Edwin, Jr.), and her husband.

Garrett, Annie - Annie Mae Garrett, 84, of Sodus, died January 8, 2003 in the Newark ViaHealth. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry and son Henry, Jr. She is survived by five children: Theresa (Richard) Ross of Ann Arbor, MI; Herbert (Mary) Garrett of Cortland; Thelma (Robert) Aplicella of Oneonta; Barbara Garrett of Schenectady; Linda Diane Garrett Burgess of Rochester; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Interment in Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville.

DeFelice, Ann - Ann DeFelice, 88, formerly of Newark, died January 8, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Ann was born Aug. 11, 1914 in Utica, to Achille and Jessica Hibbard Monopli. She was a registered nurse for the Newark Development Center. Ann and her late husband, John, came from Utica to Newark, where they operated the Rainbow Tavern for many years. She attended St. Michael's Church in Newark. She is survived by her step-daughter, Gloria Corelli, of Newark; two step-grandchildren, Michael Corelli and Maureen Ashbarry; one great-step-granddaughter; Rachel Ashbarry; a sister, Mary Rose Loftus of Rome; two sisters-in-law, Louise Carpinella of Utica and Julia (Lou) DeFelice of Carson City, Nev.; two special nieces, Marylou Palumbo and LeAnne Alberts; and other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1979. Interment will be in Newark Cemetery.

Everett, Fannie - Fannie M. Everett, 75, of Sodus and Newark, died January 8, 2003 at DeMay Living Center. Fannie was born December 13, 1927 in Americus, Georgia, to Clyde and Mila Asbury Jackson. She moved to Wayne County from Florida in 1955. Over the years she and her late husband, Frank Everett, provided food and shelter to many families who moved north to start a new life. Through the Come-Unity Center in Williamson, she collected grocery donations from local stores and boxed them for distribution to needs families. Mrs. Everett also cooked at the Center and sorted clothing for their second-hand clothing shop. Mrs. Everett was a devoted Christian and co-founded Wayside Chapel in 1960, which eventually became Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Lyons. She was past President of the Missionary Board. She was a recipient of many awards for her church and community involvement, most notably was the 1990 Missionary of The Year Award. Mrs. Everett is survived by her son and daughter-in law, Johnnie and Susan Patterson of Newark; daughter, Hazel Miller of Rochester; five step-children; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Heywood Jackson of CT and Charles Jackson of CA; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Everett in 1993 and her son-in-law, Charlie Miller. Interment is in Sodus Rural Cemetery in Sodus.

Shears, George - George H. Shears, of Clearwater, FL, died January 4, 2003. Mr. Shears was a veteran of World War II Army Regional Corps, serving in the European sector. He retired from the New York Telephone Co. after being employed there for 25 years. He was the son of Mary and Abram Shears of Sodus. His cremains will be buried beside his wife in Marion Cemetery this spring. He is survived by a sister, Mary A. Boekhout of Hawaii, and a niece, Barbara Boekhout Ganne of Hawaii. He was predeceased by his sister, Esther Buys.

Garlock, Leona - Leona Garlock, 99, of Newark, died January 2, 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Garlock of Newark; son, Roger (Diane) Garlock of Loudon, TN; brother, Milton (Maggie) Ameele of Marion; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Main, Clara - Clara Main, 85, of Palmyra, died January 9, 2003. Clara is survived by sons, Carl J. (Cheryl) Main of Arizona, Floyd R. Main; brothers, Richard and Oscar Reubens; sisters, Bertha Main and Esther Rush. Clara was predeceased by her husband, Harold Main.

Brancato, Dr. Santo - Santo F. Brancato, M.D., 91, of Rochester/Ft. Myers, FL, died January 9, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital Nursing Home. Santo was born in Brooklyn, December 19, 1911 to the late Epifanio and Giovianna Brancato. He was a graduate of Long Island University and received his medical degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee. He practiced medicine in Rochester from 1939 until the 1980s, and had been president of the medical staff at Park Ridge Hospital. A captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, he served as a trauma surgeon in the European Theater during World War II. He had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, several medical associations including the American Medical Association and the Monroe County Medical Association. Survivors include his two sons, Thomas (Judith) Brancato of Lyons and Robert (Marcia) Brancato of Rushville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his sister, Connie Perrotta, of Lindenhurst; Long Island; many nieces and nephews. His wife, Mary, died in 1977. Entombment will be in White Haven Memorial Park.

Wagemaker, Alice - Alice Paton Wagemaker, 83, of Sodus Point, died January 11, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Alice was born in Lyons, October 26, 1919, daughter of James and Esther Sloan Paton. She was a member of the Lyons Presbyterian Church and retired in 1978 from the Wayne County Department of Social Services. Recently Mrs. Wagemaker and her husband spent their winters in Florida and they maintained a summer home on Sill's Shore at Sodus Bay. Alice is survived by her husband, Reginald; daughter, Joan Walls of West Baden Springs, IN; two sons, Larry of Rochester and Wallace (Barbara) of Chelmsford, MA; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James Paton of Venice, FL. She was predeceased by her brothers, G. Terry and Robert Paton. Interment will be in the South Lyons Cemetery.

Flack, Linda - Linda L. Flack, 58, of Newark, died January 12, 2003 at Newark ViaHealth. Linda was born October 28, 1944 in Lyons, to Howard and Elizabeth Lambrix Barton. She attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Lyons. She is survived by her husband, Joseph A.; one daughter, Heidi Flack of East Rochester; two grandchildren; two brothers, James and Tom Barton; sister, Demi Kruger-Krantz.

Rice, Joan - Joan S. Rice, 69, of Marion, died January 7, 2003 in Lowell, Massachusetts. Joan was born May 25, 1934 in Rochester, daughter of Albert E. and Bessie A. Sorel. She was a graduate of Nazareth High School. She raised her family in Marion. She also lived in Florida, Long Island, Newark and Clifton Springs. She worked at Shoales Drug Store and Seneca Foods, and retired from the New York State Developmental Center. The family includes two sons, Dean A. of Fremont NH, and Robert E. (deceased); three grandchildren; and brother, Edward Sorel of Florida. A graveside service is planned at the cemetery in Marion.

Dyer, George - George W. Dyer, 67, of Newark, died January 9, 2003 at Highland Hospital in Rochester. George was born August 12, 1936 in Merrillsville, to Orville Dyer and Mary Cochran, both of whompredeceased George. George is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Orville and Bertha Dyer of Wayland, and special companion, Verna Trimble and her family.

Smith, Hazel - Hazel Cunningham Smith, 90, of Newark, died January 1, 2003 at the Fairport Baptist Home. Hazel was born November 7, 1912 in Arcadia to Henry and Luella Coleman Schwartz. She graduated from Newark High School in 1930, and was employed for two years in the office of the Newark Union-Gazette and eight years in the office of the Newark Courier, now the Newark Courier-Gazette. In 1940 she accepted a position as medical secretary at the Newark State School (Newark Developmental Center/DDSO). Mrs. Smith was for 32 years a principal stenographer, retiring in November 1972. She served the last 15 years as the secretary to the Director. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newark, and she had served on the Advisory Board for the Fairport Baptist Home. She was a member of Amitie Chapter #473, Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by nieces and nephews including Betty Austin of Newark, Ronald Austin of TX, Dorothy Frank of Newark, George Schwartz of Newark, Melvin Schwartz of CT and Richard Swartz of Rochester; several great-nieces and great-nephews including Tim Schwartz of Japan, step-daughter Joan (Gerry) Crider of Newark; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Lawrence M. Cunningham of Williamson in 1984, and her second husband Earl M. Smith of Palmyra in 1999.

Schroth, Michael - Michael N. Schroth, 44, formerly of Newark, died December 23, 2002. He is survived by his wife Virginia, his sons G. Dean. Matthew, Nicholas; he was the son of Judith Wischoff and Norbert H. Schroth; he is survived by siblings Robin Celso and Kevin Schroth.

Sanford, Chester - Chester Grant Sanford, 83, of Granger Lane, Newark died January 2, 2003 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Chester was born October 9, 1919 in Braddock, PA to Frederick and Grace Wallbank Sanford. He retired from the United States Post Office where he worked as a clerk. He loved the great outdoors, feeding and watching birds, oil painting and playing the piano. After age 60, he received his private pilot's license and glider license. He belonged to The Nature Conservation Board, Adirondack Council and the National Wildlife Association and others. He served in the Army during WWII. He is survived by wife, Florene Boeckmann Sanford; his daughters Kathleen Robinson, Susan (Eric) Marcano, and April Hartwell, all of Newark; grandchildren: John Lense, Melissa (Jimmy) Murtha, Peter and Bethany Robinson, Cory, Kelley, Kara Marcano, and Michael Hartwell; one great-grandson, Tyler; brother Fred (Dinah) Sanford of FL; sisters Marian (Edwin) Lummaka of Newfield and Barbara (Hugh) Branch of FL; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Melinda in 1998 and brother William in 1997.

Morris, Neva - Neva M. Morris, 82, of Palmyra, died December 31, 2002 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Neva was born June 13, 1920 in Rochester, to Faye and Emma Dodge Thompson. She was married to Robert K. Morris in 1942 in Buffalo. She is survived by her daughters Kathryn (Edward) Morris Lang of Hampton, NH and Dale (Marty) Carr of Palmyra; sons Craig Morris of Clifton Springs, Robert L. Morris of North Carolina, James (Judy) Morris of Newark; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Robert who died on October 14,1993; and by her sisters Ruth and Myra and brothers Carl, George and Ray.

Lobdell, James -James 'Jimmy' Lobdell, 56, of Newark, died January 3, 2003 at Newark ViaHealth. Jimmy was born November 2, 1946 in Syracuse to William and Estelle Brewster Lobdell. He was a machinist for 22 years at Crosman Air and Vern's Machine Shop for two years. He enjoyed working in the yard, the outdoors and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Donna Jones Lobdell; brothers Harold, Larry (Peter) and Gary Lobdell; sisters Ruth Sutton, Pat Lastrine, Sylvia Euson and Gladys (Jerry) Robbins; many nieces and nephews; special friends Rita and Samuel Theriault and Cynthia Noble, Jimmy was predeceased by his brothers William, Jr. and Ralph; sister Catherine.

Hallock, Elizabeth - Elizabeth 'Betty' F. Hallock, 71, of Lyons, died January 2, 2003 after an extended illness. Betty was born Jan. 8, 1931, in Pennsville, NJ to Robert T. and Esther Harris Fulton. She was a member and Sunday School teacher at Grace Episcopal Church in Lyons, where she served on the vestry. She is survived by her husband George; brother, Robert (Rita) Fulton of Pennsylvania; nieces; nephews; special friend, Sally Mine of New Jersey, and many other friends in the Lyons area.

Little, Marjorie - Marjorie G. (English) Little, 88, formerly of Newark, died January 3, 2003 at Rivercrest Nursing Home in Concord, MA. She was married to the late Francis F. Goldsborough in 1937 and the late David B. Little in 1976. She was born in Boston July 30, 1915, to Everett W. and Ruth (Titcomb) English. She attended schools in France and Switzerland and graduated from Milton Academy in 1933. She trained as a commercial artist at the Fine Arts Academy in Cambridge. During the 1930's, Mrs. Little began a career in design in New York City. She retired in 1977 following 20 years of employment as a retail executive at Lord and Taylor. Mrs. Little exhibited her watercolor paintings locally and was a designer of needlepoint. She was an active member of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, enjoyed the Boston Symphony and dancing. She loved gardening and was a member of the Church of the Advent in Boston. From 1942-72, she was a resident of Newark, where she was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Survivors include one daughter, the Rev. Judith G. Dunlop of San Francisco; one son, Nicholas T. Goldsborough of Washington, DC; two grandchildren in San Francisco; three step-sons, a brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Margot Goldsborough and sister of the late Ruth McClure.

Russell, Eleanor - Eleanor Russell, 76, of Sodus, died January 2, 2003 at Newark ViaHealth. Eleanor was born to Kenneth and Eleanor Russell on December 20, 1926 in Buffalo. She enjoyed listing to Lawrence Welk, collected handbags and enjoyed dressing up and being in fashion. She is survived by her good friend Betty Danison of Seneca Falls; many friends at the DDSO and the Blossom View Nursing Home.

Shaulis, Harvey - Harvey J. Shaulis, 70, formerly of Lyons, died January 5, 2003. He is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Paul (Terri) Shaulis of Virginia, Scott (Heidi) Shaulis of Ovid; daughter, Terry (Bob) Hartman of Michigan; eight grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Woods and Shirley Harman. Mr. Shaulis was retired from Mobil Chemical in Macedon and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, member of the Lyons and Ovid VFW Posts, avid hunter and fisherman.

MacCleery, Ada - Ada Pearl MacCleery, 95, of Sodus Center, died January 4, 2003 at Newark ViaHealth. She is survived by granddaughters, Maria Sigl of Sodus Center, and Kristy Youngman of Wolcott; four great-granddaughters; friends Wes Hall of Palmyra, Aunt Fran of Clifton Springs, Uncle Dick of Macedon and Douglas Bodine of Sodus. She was predeceased by her companion of many years, Adrian DeBadts of Sodus Center, and his sons William DeBadts and James DeBadts.

Vick Pekoff, Valcho - Valcho 'Mr. Vick' Djono Pekoff, 79, of Lyons, died January 6, 2003 at Newark ViaHealth. Valcho was born March 14, 1923, in Bulgaria and escaped to the United States in the 1950s. He became a tavern owner, operating Vick's Grill in Lyons for more than 30 years. He was a past member of the VFW War Dads and the Lyons Rotary Club. He is survived by his wife, Josie; son, Djono Pekoff of Syracuse; daughter, Belinda (Andrew) Gams of Newark; step-sons, Montague (Denise) Noble of Medina and Joseph (Colleen) Noble of Lyons; eight grandchildren; family members in Bulgaria.

DeCracker, Margaret - Margaret L. DeCracker, 85, formerly of Lyons, died December 12, 2002, at Park Place Living Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born in Lyons, the daughter of Walter T. and Agnes Driscoll Gillette. She served in the Lyons Village Clerk's office and later worked at Eastman Kodak in Rochester. With her husband, Leslie G. DeCracker, she moved to Michigan. After retirement, they resided in Englewood, FL. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Larry Ellison of Kalamazoo; and sisters-in-law, Ella DeCracker of Newark, Marjorie Gillette of Arizona, and Irene Hales of Florida. Preceding her in death was her infant daughter in 1949, Leslie DeCracker in 2000, brothers, Hubert, Edwin, and Larry Gillette, and a sister, Hazel Coon.

Garlock, Leona - Leona J. Garlock, 90, of Newark died January 2, 2003. She is survived by her daughter Mary Jane Garlock of Newark; son, Roger (Diane) Garlock of Loudon, TN; brother, Milton (Maggie) Ameele of Marion; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Duhaime, Elizabeth - Elizabeth A. Duhaime, 92, of Sodus, died January 8, 2003. She is survived by her son, Robert (Rachel) of Palmyra; daughter, Dorothy Eastley of North Rose; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas and son, Lawrence.

Knight, Mabel - Mabel Anderson Knight, 101, of Newark, died January 1, 2003 at her home. Mabel was born in Moberly, Missouri, on August 22, 1901, daughter of Jesse Logan and Mabel Felton Anderson. She graduated from the University of Washington and came to Newark following her 1923 marriage to T. Spencer Knight. Mrs. Knight was active in the work of the Episcopal Church, serving as President of the Diocesan Churchwomen and on the Board of the Church Home for many years. She and her husband enjoyed birdwatching all over the world. Interment in Lake View Cemetery, Cleveland, Ohio. She is survived by a daughter, Nancy (Kemp) Bloomer of Newark; and a son, Thomas S. (Kathleen) Knight of Greenwich, CT; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Mabel was predeceased by her husband in 1997 and by three brothers, Logan, Charles and Robert Anderson.

Farnsworth, Daniel - Daniel Farnsworth, 100, of Port Gibson, died January 2, 2003 at The Country Home in Manchester. Dan was born April 8, 1902 in Marion, a son of Samuel and Della Jarvis Farnsworth. He was a member of the Port Gibson United Methodist Church. He owned and operated the Port Gibson General Store with his wife for many years. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He is survived by his son, Duane (Barbara) Farnsworth of Newark; three grandchildren, Cheryl (James) Blankenberg, Karen Follette, Daniel Farnsworth; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Follette, Jason Blankenberg, Hillary Blankenberg, Allan Farnsworth; sister, Dorothy Stewart of Lyons; daughter-in-law, Miriam Farnsworth of Ovid. Dan was predeceased by his wife, Helen in 1997, son Wesley, daughter Hazel Hardison, and four brothers: Theodore, Wilson, Wallace and Glenn. Interment in East Newark Cemetery.

Hutchinson, Merrill - Merrill B. Hutch Hutchinson, 81, of Newark died January 1, 2003 at Newark ViaHealth. Merrill was born in Lyons, April 22, 1921, son of William and Lillian Pennwright Hutchinson. He retired from Tetron-North American Filter Co. in Newark in 1982, where he was a supervisor. He was previously employed at C. Ruppert and Sons Hardware Store in Lyons. For seven years, he worked part-time for Barnard Automotive as a car transporter. He served in the Army from 1943-1946 from 1944-1945. He served with Mars Task Force with Merrill Marauders; he also was in China and Burma. Hutch was a 57-year member of the American Legion of Newark; a life member of Newark VFW for 50 years; a charter member of Lyons VFW. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Elsie DeMay Hutchinson; a son, Bernard William of Carlsbad, CA; daughter, Barbara Ann Thomas of Newark; brother, Donald of Clayton; stepdaughter, Barbara Sanson of Lily Dale; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one step-grandson and family; and one nephew. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Lyons.
