Chappell, Kevin - Kevin R. Chappell, 49, of Newark, died September 30, 2008, at Strong Memorial Hospital. Kevin was born October 12, 1958 in Lyons, son of Robert and Betty Van Bortel Chappell. He was a customer service and sales representative for Hammer Packaging in Henrietta. He was a 1977 graduate of Newark High School, and a graduate of New York State University at Geneseo, in 1981. He had been a member of Park Presbyterian Church and had served as an Elder. He was a coach in Newark Little League and the summer soccer program. On October 2, Kevin and Deb would have celebrated their 26th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife Deb, daughter Meredith Chappell, his parents Bob and Betty Chappell, his sister Karen Van Liew; niece Nora and nephew Max Van Liew, all of Newark; special friends Bob and Kathy Zappia, Jen Churey, John and Terry Schnaars. He was predeceased in 2003 by his son, Derrick. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, at St. Michael's Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Dobbin, Al - Albert Leroy Dobbin, 90, of Sodus died September 29, 2008. He is survived by his son Edward Albert (Patricia) Dobbin of Halifax, PA; his daughter Sue Ellen (James P.) Johnson of Newark; grandchildren Lisa Lower, Rachael Lesh, Jacqueline Johnson-Eng, Geoffrey Dobbin, Jesse Barrick, Gregory Dobbin, James R. Johnson, Jeremy Dobbin and Jennie Alice Johnson; 16 great-grandchildren; and his brother Walter (Lorraine) Dobbin. Al was predeceased in 1980 by his wife Mildred Haak Dobbin. A World War II Army veteran, Al was a 62-year member of the First Reformed Church of Sodus, the Chorus of the Genesee since 1981, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He entertained countless organizations in New York and Pennsylvania for 50 years, through March 2008, and had performed at the Eastman Theater in Rochester. In 1980, Al retired from the U.S. Postal Service; he had been the Postmaster in Sodus. He enjoyed traveling, visiting Civil War Battlefields, country music history, and spending time with his extended family. Al was a former Disaster Chairman for Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Calling hours are Thursday, Oct. 2 from 2-4 & 7-9 at Norton Funeral Home is Sodus. Dewa, Alexander - Alexander J. 'Al' Dewa, 87, Clifton Springs & Newark, died Sept. 26, 2008 at his home in Clifton Springs. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 30) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Michael's Church, Newark. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery. Memorials appreciated at St. Michael's School, 325 South Main Street, Newark 14513. Al was born February 20, 1921, in Lowsville, West Virginia the son of Andrew and Antonina Plewa Dewa. He moved from Warren, Michigan to Clifton Springs in 2004. Al was a communicant of St. Michael Church in Newark. He retired in 1983 from Ethyl Corp. in Ferndale, Michigan where he had been a Chemical Engineer. He served in the European Theatre during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was a navigator on a B17 with the 483rd Bomb Group. He was a member of The 483rd Bombardment Group Assn., The Air Force Navigators Observers Assoc. and The Air Force Escape and Evasion Society. After the war, Al graduated from the University of Detroit. He is survived by two sons, Andrew (Keren) of Plano, TX and Paul (Renate) of Newark; four grandchildren Theresa, Jerray, Aleksandra, and Jacob. Haeusing, Karl - Karl F. Haeusing, 83, of Sodus died September 25, 2008. He was born August 27, 1925 in Germany, where he was raised and educated. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marianne Haeusing; daughters Ulrike (John) Braun and Heidelore (Tom) Ronan; sons Karl W. Haeusing and Robert Haeusing; four grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Braun and Lindsay and Harrison Ronan. He immigrated to the United States in 1954 and was employed as an operating engineer at the Lone Star Brewery in San Antonio, TX. Since 1964 he had worked at Xerox in Webster, where he retired in 1988. All services are private. Arrangements by the Norton Funeral Home of Sodus.

Buchanan, Sue - Hilda A. 'Sue' Buchanan, 83, of Lyons, died September 22, 2008 at the Pines of Peace in Ontario. Sue was born December 8, 1924 in Lyons, a daughter to William A. and Iva C. Hosford Ashford. She graduated from Lyons High School and the Rochester Business Institute. She worked as a secretary and model at Eastman Kodak until her marriage to Earl on November 14, 1945. After military service and college, they returned to Lyons where their three children were born and raised. She was a member of the Lyons United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Sue retired from the Lyons High School as a secretary for the guidance office and was an avid bridge player. She is remembered as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all, especially to her church, DAR, and bridge club friends. She is survived by her husband Ead of 62 years; three children, Deborah A. Buchanan and Laurie A. (Michael) Luenella, both from Washington State; Douglas E. (Rose) Buchanan of Texas; seven grandchildren, Kathryn, Jenna, Chelsea, Jordon, Andrew, Taylor, and Jason; two nephews, Dr. Alan (Ashley) Brodine of Rochester, and Dr. William (Sue) Brodine of Kansas; and brother-in law, Norman Brodine of Rochester. She was predeceased by her parents, and sister, Lois A. Brodine in 2004. Calling hours are Friday, Sept. 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the Weeks-Keysor Funeral Home, 5 Phelps St., Lyons. Williams, John - John A. Williams, Jr., 81, of Williamson died September 17, 2008. John was predeceased by his wife Nancy, on January 3, 2000. He is survived by his son Mark (Terri-Lea) Williams; and by grandchildren Dana Ann Williams, Alexandra Williams, Jessica Hopkins and Cassandra DeGelleke. A World War II Army veteran, he served in the European Theater of Operations; was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree, Trinity Council of Webster; a graduate of the DeVry Institute in Chicago; had been employed for many years in the Telecommunications Industry; was co-founder and past president of the Western New York Postcard Club. He was an active member of Church of the Epiphany in Sodus and had been a counselor for Wayne County Agency for Aging and Youth. Ellis, Theresa - Theresa M. (DeFabio) Ellis, 83, of Newark and Clyde, died September 14, 2008. Theresa was born October 13, 1924 in Clyde, to Santo and Mary DeLisio DeFabio. She was a member of St. John's Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Linwood 'Red' Ellis; sisters Philomena Noble, Tina Lauster and Josephine Donselaar; brothers Peter and Joseph DeFabio; special nephew Howard House. She is survived by a special daughter, Violanda (Nelson) Kise of Lyons; special niece Karen House of Newark; sisters Carmella Volpe and Marianna Plante of Clyde; grandchildren Kaila and Brendon and several nieces and nephews. Laird, Lucy - Lucy M. Laird, 90, of Savannah died September 16, 2008. A private graveside service will be held at South Lyons Cemetery. Lucy was born February 20, 1918 in Lyons, daughter of Mark & Elizabeth Vona Blanche. She worked for Newark Developmental Center, retiring in 1980. House, Howard G. III - Howard G. House III, 59, died Saturday, September 13, 2008 at Rochester General Hospital. Mr. House was born on February 7,  1949 in Newark. Howard retired in 1999 from Newark Housing Authority where he was superintendent of maintenance for 34 years. He was a member of St. John's Church, Clyde. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the Turkey Federation. Wehrlin, Helene - Helene F. Wehrlin, 94, of Palmyra and Brighton, died September 3, 2008. Helene was predeceased by her beloved Gerald (Jerry) Wehrlin, to whom she was married for 40 years. Williams, Matt - Staff Sgt. Matthew J. (McKeon) Williams, USAF, 22, died following a motorcycle accident on September 4, 2008, while he was stationed at the Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona. McClellan, Gene - Eugene W. McClellan, 91, of Newark and Clifton Springs died September 7, 2008 at Clifton Springs Hospital. Calling hours and funeral services will not be observed. Mr. McClellan was born Sept. 25, 1916 in Newark, son of Joseph and Mavert Williams McClellan. He was a graduate of Newark High School in 1933, joining the Navy in 1945, serving in Mississippi. He and his family later moved to Wisconsin, where he owned and operated the McClellan Outdoors Equipment. In the mid 1990s he moved back to his home town of Newark and than to Ashton Place in Clifton Springs. Mr. McClellan was proud of his Scottish heritage and had worked many hours on genealogy. He was the grandson of A. Eugene Williams, early Newark merchant, who operated the A.E. Williams Corner Store, a site now occupied by the Corner Tavern. He enjoyed photography, sailing, and reading about American and Scottish history. He was a member of the Park Presbyterian Church of Newark, Arcadia Historical Society, Masonic Lodge # 83 of Newark, the National Trust for Scotland and the McClellan Clan Club, where he had served as president while in California. He is survived by his wife, Doris Cronise McClellan; sons Michael H. (Linda) of CA and Mark McClellan of WI; daughters Mary Lou (Philip) Olin Jr. of PA and Jane Ann (Don) Schroeder of CA; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; step-daughter Jane Colby of Brockport; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 1994 by his first wife, Ruth Mimms McClellan; also by brothers Hugh and Robert; sisters Margaret McClellan and Helen Daggett. Lawson, Ann - Ann D. Lawson, 84, of Newark, died Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mrs. Lawson was born on July 9, 1924, in Lyons, the daughter of James and Mary Jelomono DeJohn. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Newark. Ann was a life long artist having had her paintings on display throughout the area. She designed and painted many of the floats for the Rose Parade. Ann also had some of her work featured in the "Better Homes and Garden" magazine. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, September 8, at the Paul L. Deisering, Ken - Kenneth August Deisering, 77, of Newark died September 3, 2008 at the Clifton Springs Hospital. Family and friends may call Sunday (Sept. 7) from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home, Inc., 124 W. Miller St., Newark. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Church, S. Main St.; burial will follow in East Newark Cemetery, with full military honors. Ken was born the son of the late Edmond and Mary VanDeWalle Deisering on Sept. 17, 1930 in Sodus, NY. He was as 1950 Marion High School graduate and entered the United States Air Force serving from 1950 to 1954. The funeral home proudly flies the Air Force Flag in his honor. Ken worked for Hallagan Manufacturing Co. in Newark, retiring after 41 years of service as an upholsterer. He n was a member of St. Michael Church in Newark, Newark American Legion Post 286, serving as past Commander and the 40 & 8 lodge. He enjoyed camping, auctions and collecting old items such as license plates. Ken had just finished restoring his 1934 Ford. Evans, Karen - Karen June Evans, 64, of Newark died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008. Karen was born August 30, 1944 in Austin, Minnesota, daughter of the late Issac and Myrtle Alman Merrill on She enjoyed arts and crafts, which she donated to a hospital in Iowa while living there. She collected videos and loved John Wayne, the Cartwrights and the Three Stooges. Brewer, Charlotte Mae - Charlotte Mae Brewer, 88, of Fort Worth, TX, died September 1, 2008. She was born in Marion, on November 14, 1919, the daughter of the late Cornelius and Mildred Johnson Cook. She was a former resident of Seminole, FL and Lyons. She and her late husband, Charles, owned the Park Bakery in Lyons from 1949-1958. She was also employed in the accounting department of Garlock in Palmyra, and as an Ombudsman for Wayne County. She was married to Charles W. Brewer on July 2, 1938, and she was a 50-year member of the Lyons Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by her husband Charles and her sister Madelyn DeNearing. She is survived by her daughters, Gail Snave (Lionel) of Waxhaw, NC, Marcia Galiga (Joseph) of Fort Worth, TX; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Snave, Daniel Snave (Elizabeth), Heather Wheeler (David) and Christine Turner (Lance); great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a sister, Carol Kearns of Marion.Calling hours are 7-9 p.m. on September 5 and 12-1:30 p.m. September 6 at Stevens Funeral Home, 3896 Buffalo St., Marion. Harris, Reverend Jerry - The Rev. Gerald H. Harris, 78, of Newark died September 1, 2008 at home, surrounded by his family. Jerry was born August 2, 1930 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Ruth Harris. He graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, IL and received his Master of Divinity Degree from Colgate Rochester Divinity School. He was ordained an American Baptist Minister at the First Baptist Church of Peoria, on May 12, 1968. He spent most of his entire ministry in upstate New York, serving Fairville Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church of West Walworth, First Baptist Church, Newark, and Woodlane Community Church. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1948 and served six years. He was a Korean War Veteran with the First Marine Division. He was past president of the Newark Chamber of Commerce, the Wayne Baptist Association, and Habitat for Humanity. He was Chaplain and life member of the Fairville Fire Dept., Chaplain of the West Walworth Fire Dept., Chaplain of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, member of the Newark Kiwanis Club, and the Finger Lakes Stamp Club. He was a certified Drug & Alcohol Counselor for FLACRA. He was former Director of the Employee Assistance Program of Nestles Corp. and former Director of the Foster Grandparent program in Newark, and was affiliated with the Boy Scouts. Music was a big part of his life. He played first trumpet in the high school band. He graduated from the Navy School of Music, in Washington. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps Band and played at the inauguration of Harry S. Truman. After serving his country he formed a dance band, 'The Rhythmaires.' His hobbies included metal detecting, stamp collecting, wood crafts, making grapevine wreaths, playing Yahtzee, and traveling. He and his wife, Joan, traveled to 49 states. They especially enjoyed their two trips to Hawaii, their trip to Switzerland and Italy. Many trips to Canada and their favorite spot was Myrtle Beach. He is survived by Joan, his partner in ministry and wife for nearly 60 years; two daughters, Debra (Kenneth) Herd of Newark, and Lori Randolph of Newark; grandchildren, Jeremy Randolph, Jennifer (Scott) Lester, Daniel (Alani) Herd, David (Stephanie) Randolph, Amy (Justin) Farrar; precious great-grandchildren, Zachary & Lucas Herd, Ryan & Emily Lester, Arianna Farrar, Nathan Randolph, and Kylie Johnson; sisters Donna (Bob) Norman of Illinois, Doris (Dave) Kamrowski of Arizona, and his brother Warren (Pat) Harris of Illinois; nieces and nephews; and his extended family, Katie Randolph, Frank and Vickie Winkler, Dan and Kate Winkler, Todd and Briana Stewart. Visitation will be held Friday, September 5, from 4-8 p.m. at Woodlane Church, Newark. To celebrate his life a musical memorial service will be held September 6, at 2 p.m. at the Woodlane Church. Lynn, Marjorie - Marjorie E. Lynn, 101, of Macedon died August 30, 2008 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Marjorie was born Nov. 12, 1906 in Macedon, New York to Edward and Minnie Stone Early. She was a graduate of Macedon High School. Marjorie was married to John D. Lynn on May 5, 1945. She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church and had formerly been active with the Altar Guild and the Eastern Star. She was predeceased in 2002 by her husband John. Piper, Jenny - Jenny Mastrangelo Piper, 76, of Syracuse died September 1, 2008. Funeral services are Friday at 9:15 a.m. at Keegan-Osbelt-Knight Funeral Home and 10 a.m. at St. Daniel's Church. Lugo, Ricky - Ricardo L. Lugo, 23, died on August 26, 2008 as a result of an automoile accident. Calling hours are planned for Friday, Aug. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Norman L. Ricky loved working on cars and spending time with his family. Holmes, David - David E. Holmes passed away, Monday, August 25, 2008, peacefully at home under hospice care. He was born in Canada but was a resident of Newark New York most of his life. David was a graduate of Clarkson University and was in financial management for many companies in the north east becoming the VP controller of Garlock Industries then he worked as same for Spinco, retiring at age 67. David served as a Lieutenant for the United States Army during WWII. He was the husband of the late Evelyn Vera Jones Holmes, whom he was married to for over 60 years. He is survived by a son, Alan W. (Carol) Holmes of Niskayuna, grandsons Kevin Holmes and Gary (Amy) Holmes, his brother Dr. John Holmes of Huntsville, Alabama, nieces and nephews. A service will be held at the Niskayuna Reformed Church.

Bohrer, Virginia - Virginia A. Bohrer, 92, of Sodus Point died August 23, 2008. Renckert, Peg - Margaret (Peg) E. DeRossett Renckert, 64, of Lyons died August 20, 2008 at home after a short battle with cancer. Klock, Lynwood - Lynwood L. Klock, 74, of Savannah, formerly of Dexter, died August 23, 2008. He was born May 12, 1934 in Watertown, son of Wesley and Grace Payne Klock. He was a Navy Veteran, serving from 1951-1955, attaining the rank of AC3; he graduated from Delmar College in Texas in 1957. He was employed by the City of Rochester from May 1970 until February 1994, where he held supervisory positions in the street lighting department, refuse collection, snow removal and at the water bureau. Following his retirement he enjoyed spending time at his cottage in Black Lake with family and friends. He was a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Lynwood is survived by children - Randy (Kim) Klock, Donald (Stephanie) Klock, Kris Klock, Mark (Bridgette) Nickles, Linda David, Debbie Alley; daughter-in-law Nancy Nickles; sister Tanny Hanson; grandchildren Mackenzie Klock, Stephen Klock, Joshua Klock, Christopher Joseph Klock, Dana Bush, Kristin Alley, Kevin Alley, Courtney Burgess, Ryan Burgess, Joshua Nickles, Benjamin Nickles, Casey Nickles and Joli Lonneville; great-granddaughter Hallie Klock. He was Mayor of Lyons from April 1985 to March 1997. He served in the Army, 204 Battalion from April 1942 to September 1946. He was active in the Democratic party, where he served on the Lyons and Wayne County level. He was a member of the Lyons Fire Dept. Co. #5. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW of Lyons. He had been a member of the Lyons Elks Lodge. He was citizen of the year in 1992 warded by the Lyons Chamber. Lyons meant so much to Gabe, he just loved people and they loved him. Hickok, Marjorie - Marjorie Hickok, 85, longtime resident of Canton, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2008, at the Bethany Manor in Horseheads, NY. Marjorie R. Hickok was born on May 7, 1923 in Laquin, PA; the only daughter of ten children born in the family of the late James and Lila (Leonard) Hartford. She owned and operated the popular eatery, Hickok’s Restaurant in Canton for many years. Marge was a generous and kind-hearted woman who was also known to speak her mind. Devoted to her family, she will be remembered as a loving sister, mother and grandmother. Marge was a wonderful baker and cook; cheesecakes were one of her many specialties. She loved times spent with family, her home at Canton Lake and crocheting. Marge also felt blessed and protected by a guardian angel. She enjoyed collecting angels and always wore one. Knorr, Marlene E. - Marlene Elizabeth Knorr, 54, of Newark, died Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Marlene was born the daughter of the late Maurice and Betty Simmons Teeter on August 23, 1953 in Sodus. She enjoyed working with crafts and puzzles. Testa, Thomas - Thomas Testa, 62, of Clyde, died unexpectedly on July 2, 2008. He was the son of Willie M. Testa and the late Sam Testa. He attended Auburn schools, Alfred Tech and was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam era and was self employed. Thomas will be missed by many. He was a loving son, brother, nephew and friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was loved by everyone. Fanning, Dorothy - Dorothy M. Fanning, of Geneva/Newark, 88, died on Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Geneva General Hospital. Friends may call Tuesday (August 19th) from 4 – 7 PM at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark.  Father Mark Brewer will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 20 at St. Michael’s Church, South Main Street, Newark.  Burial will be in Newark Cemetery. Mrs. Fanning was born on March 20, 1920, in Java Center, New York, the daughter of Clifford and Loretta Dalton Hovey.  She was a graduate of Canandaigua Academy in 1938.  She was a long time resident of Newark and recently resided at Seneca Lake Terrace in Geneva.  Dorothy worked as a hairdresser in her mother’s beauty shop in Canandaigua as a young woman and then spent many years raising and caring for her family.  In the 1970s, Dorothy was a real estate agent in Newark.  She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Newark. She is survived by two sons Michael (Nancy) of Alexandria, Va. and Jeffrey (Karen) of Geneva, five grandchildren Mathew, Kathleen, Ryan, Kevin and Christopher, a great granddaughter Isabelle.  In 1998, Dorothy was predeceased by love of her life Robert Fanning after 52 years of marriage.  Also predeceasing her are a daughter Kathleen in 1973, a sister Margaret Lytle in 2004 and a brother Robert Hovey in 2008. Fitzpatrick, Martha - Martha H. Fitzpatrick, 84, of Newark, died August 7, 2008 at the DeMay Living Center. Friends may attend a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, August 15 at Norman Waterman Funeral Home, 124 W. Miller St. in Newark. Interment will be in the East Newark Cemetery. She was raised in Kentucky. She lived most of her life in California, where she was employed in the aerospace industry for many years. Martha is survived by her husband, Robert T. Fitzpatrick of Newark; sons, Gary (Janice) Fitzpatrick of Newark and James Douglas (Rosemary) Fitzpatrick of Queensland, Australia. Magill, Jim - James F. Magill, 86, of Lyons died August 11, 2008. Jim was born in Seneca Falls, March 29, 1922, son of Howard Thomas & Julia White Magill. He was a 1939 graduate of Holy Family High School in Auburn. He received a B.A. from St. Bonaventure University & a M.A. from the University of Rochester. He retired in 1977 from a position as English instructor at Lyons High School. He taught 30 years. He served on the Lyons Village Zoning Board of Appeals as a member and as Chairman. He had been a member of the Town of Lyons Board of Assessors and had earned NYS Professional Assessor designation. He was active in duplicated bridge circles & had achieved the status of American contract Bridge League life master. He was a certified ACBL game director. He was active in Elderhostel with Mrs. Magill including 3 programs on the Hawaiian Islands. He & his wife were Co-chairman of the Lyons Chapter of the American Field Service for a year and hosted a foreign exchange student. He held an Amateur Radio License. He was a member of St. Michael's Church. He had been a Cancer survivor and was one of the last survivors of those who contracted Polio during the epidemic of the early 1920. Survived by his wife, Jean Bennett Magill; daughters, Eileen VanNorman of Newark, Katherine (Dennis) Alvaro of Lyons; granddaughters, Adrienne and Meredith Alvaro; stepson, Rick VanNorman of Arizona; sister, Julia Gagnier of Auburn; nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, Marie Magill. Morell, Gary - Gary D. Morell, 67, of Palmyra died August 11, 2008. Gary practiced law in Palmyra for more than 40 years, at Converse & Morell. He was involved in community activities including Pal-Mac Rotary Club, Palmyra Masonic Lodge and Wayne Co. Industrial Development Agency. He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; children Deanna Morell, John (Michele) Morell, and Diane Kelly; grandchildren Hanna, Sara and Emma Kelly, Nicolette and Lillian Morell; mother-in-law, Rose Scorza; sister-in-law Phyllis (Robert) Plass of Hyde Park; many good friends. Carlson, Marilyn - Marilyn Laurine Carlson, 66, formerly of Newark, died August 5, 2008 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was predeceased by her parents, Glenn and Bertha Carlson. Survived by her children, Randy Blankenberg, Debra (Mike) Stevens, Bruce Blankenberg and stepson, Eddie Carlson. Granddaughters, Michelle and Emily. Brother, Lanford Carlson. Ameele, Spike - Edwin W. 'Spike' Ameele, fomer Supervisor of the Town of Williamson, died August 8, 2008 at Blossom View Nursing Home, Sodus. A Celebration of Life is being held today, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. at Young Funeral Home in Williamson. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery, Pultneyville. He was born June 5, 1911 in East Williamson. He graduated from Sodus High School and Rochester School of Commerce. He traveled through much of western New York for many years as a fertilizer salesman for the F.S. Royster Co.. He also worked many years for the Wayne County Growers and Processors finding labor to work on local farms and in the plants of Food Processors, and served on their Board of Directors. During WWII helped establish several POW camps in Wayne County. After the war, he supervised camps that were retained in Marion, Lyons, and Williamson to house migrant and contract laborers. He served multiple terms as an Assessor and two terms as Supervisor of the Town of Williamson. He was a member of the Orphix Fraternity of Williamson and member of the Pultneyville Masonic Lodge F & AM. He was a member of the East Williamson Fire Department. Spike was married to Irene Bruno for 66 years, until her death in 2004. Surviving are his sister, Lillian Charles of Rochester; sons, Reginald (Betsy) of Baldwinsville, Robert (Middy) of Coto de Caza, CA, and Randall (Chris) of Glastonbury, CT; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many cousins. Blair, Bob - Robert Lewis Blair, 78, of East Palmyra, died August 7, 2008, at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. He was born in Canandaigua, on May 20, 1930, son of Raymond and Hazel Allen Blair. He graduated from the Canandaigua Academy in 1949. He worked for Margrove Dairy and retired in 1990 from Mobil, where he had worked as a lift truck operator for 18 years. Bob was a member of the East Palmyra Presbyterian Church and the Canandaigua Kiwanis Club. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sonja; children Patricia Busby, Deborah Weitzel, Robert (Pamela), Mary (Roger) Soucie, Michael (Karen), Augustus (Tanja), Mark (Sharon) Morganti, Jan Morganti, Kim Morganti; fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Marilyn (Grant) Fletcher, Nancy Blair and Joy Blair; nieces and nephews. Olson, Herb - Herbert V. Olson, 90, of Layton Street Road, died August 8, 2008 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Herb was born March 7, 1918 in Akeley, Minnesota, son of Axel C. & Pearl Sutliff Olson. Herb farmed outside of Lyons for over 50 years raising beef, pork, and raw crops. Herb is a World War II Veteran serving in 1942 through the Normandy Invasion to the Battle of Metz with the 90th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart & Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Michael's Church in Lyons & American Legion & Veteran of Foreign Wars, and Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. He is survived by his wife, Alice Petrus Olson; three sons, Thomas of Groton, Daniel (Patricia) of Lyons, Steven (Susan) of Lyons; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Marian Ruby Goodrich of Minnesota and Barbara Salton of Iowa; three brothers, Charles of West Union, Iowa, Dean of Sheldon, Iowa, and Palmer of Storm Lake, Iowa. He was predeceased by three sisters, Theone Harris, Phyllis Goebel and Deltha Barber. Herbert was the oldest of nine children. Pfifer, George - George Thomas Pfifer, 90, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Newark, died July 31, 2008. He was born April 28, 1918 in Newark and graduated from Newark High School. He attended Duquesne University on a basketball scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1940. He married Jane Hatsell on July 5, 1941. He served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Berlin, Germany. After being discharged from the service, he became a Public Accountant and earned his CPA in 1948. He retired as President of Howmet Aluminum Corporation in December 1979. He and Jane enjoyed traveling and were avid golfers. He continued to serve on boards of national corporations until the mid 1990s. He is survived by his wife, Jane; six children: Kathleen Rosburgh, Susan Jill Martuza, Patricia MacDougall, Michael Pfifer, Joseph Pfifer, and Melinda Blum; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bagshaw, Louise - Louise S. Bagshaw, RN, 80, died August 2, 2008 at the Blossom View Nursing Home in Sodus. She was born December 9, 1927 in Rochester. She was a graduate of Highland Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester; she took postgraduate training at the University of Rochester. She worked at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital as supervisor of the operating and recovery rooms from its opening in 1957 until her retirement in 1987. She was a member of the Upstate New York Chapter of Association of Operating Room Nurses, serving as Chair of the budget and finance committee and later as President. A member of the national AORN, she was elected to the Board of Directors and later was elected National Treasurer. She was a member of the American Nursing Association. She is survived by her brother Jack (Sharon) Catteau of NC; many nieces and nephews; devoted caregiver and niece Nadine Poormon of Marion. Fagner, Ada - Ada Tyler Fagner, 79 of Clifton Springs died July 31, 2008. Ada was born Nov. 26, 1928 in Clifton Springs, daughter of Silas and Maude Finch Tyler. She was a graduate of Clifton Springs High School class of 1947. Ada worked at Shuron Optical until her marriage to Richard Fagner on May 28, 1948. She was a member of Royal Garoga OES #425 and Rebekah Lodge #406 for over 60 years. She was also a member of Seeley B. Parish American Legion Auxiliary and charter member of Northern Central NY Firemen's Volunteer Assn. Auxiliary. Ada was a member of the Clifton Springs Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She was a volunteer at Clifton Springs Hospital at the information desk for more than 30 years. Ada also spent a brief time as Town of Phelps Deputy Clerk until her retirement in 1991. Ada is survived by her husband, Richard Fagner; son, Walter (Linda) Fagner of Clifton Springs; daughters, Susan Mully of Canandaigua and Joan (Stephen) Shirley of Lyons; grandchildren, Jason and Jennifer Mully; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Vanderlyke, Herb - Herbert M. Vanderlyke, 53, of Newark and Lyons, died July 26, 2008 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. He was born January 17, 1955, in Lyons, son of Herbert and Beatrice Schmitt Vanderlyke. He was a 1973 graduate of Newark High School. Herb was a welder and torch cutter for Garlock, Inc. for 21 years. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Michele 'Micky' of Lyons, daughter Brandy of Newark, son Herbert Jr. of Lyons, brother Michael (Karensue) of East Palmyra, two grandchildren Herbert III and Sarah Rotondo, nieces and nephews. Siler, Shirley - Shirley A. Siler, 73, of Newark died July 31, 2008 at the Newark Manor. Shirley was born April 6, 1935 in Savannah, daughter of the late Percy and Elizabeth Hand Shove. She retired in 1999 from Fold-Pak in Newark. She was a member of the AVSO and the American Legion Auxiliary in Newark. Young, Glenn - Glenn A. Young, 80, of Newark died July 30, 2008 at his home on Hydesville Road. He was born on January 14,1928 in Town of Palmyra, the son of Vernon and Leah Poyzer Young. He graduated from Newark High School in 1946. He was a designer and builder of many homes in the area. He was dedicated to the restoration of old homes. An avid Lake Ontario sailor, he loved to restore boats. He was a member of Rochester Home Builders Association, where he served on the board, and the Wine Country Classic Boat Association. He was a member of the East Palmyra Presbyterian Church. He was active in the Newark Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He belonged to the Newark Masonic Lodge and the Newark Elks. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernice Humbert Young, his mother Leah P. Young, his sons Scott (Jayne) of Fairport, David (Julia) of Newark, Timothy (Kimberly) of Fairport, seven grandchildren Michael, Jason, Laura, Nicole, Zachary, Joshua and Nathan; two sisters Ellen Rich of Marion, Jane McPherson of Fairport, several nieces and nephews. Meyers, Bob - Robert 'Bob' Earl Meyers, 71, of Macedon died July 29, 2008 at Rochester General Hospital. Bob was born February 15, 1937 in Rochester, son of the late Hubert and Lois Brei Meyers. He was a 1955 graduate of East Rochester High School. Employed at American Can Co. for 31 years as an electrician, he retired in 1987. After his retirement from American Can, he established the Bob Meyers Electric Co. He repaired and built computers. Bob was a life member of the East Rochester Presbyterian Church, North American Hunting Club and the North American Fishing Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and most of all, second to none, his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Ryan Meyers; sons Walter (Sherry) Meyers of IL and Garry Akins II of Newark; daughters Deborah Podolak of IL and Lorri (Doug) Keyton of Clyde; eight grandchildren; brother Gregg (Renee) Meyers of Churchville; sister Gail Meyers of E. Rochester; nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Edith Ryan. He was predeceased by his son Kerry Akins and son-in-law Stephen Podolak. Calling hours are August 1 from 5 to 8 at Norman L. Siler, Fran - Francis C. Siler, 81, of Newark died July 29, 2008. He was born February 12, 1927 in Newark, son of John and Anna Vanderbrook Siler. He entered the Army upon graduating from Newark High School in 1945 and served with the occupational forces in Germany. Fran and his wife Sue were married nearly 58 years. He had worked at Bloomer Bros. in Newark, and Voplex in Rochester. In 1992, he retired from Rendoll Paper in Rochester where he had worked for over 20 years as assistant plant manager. Later he worked for three years at D'Amico Plumbing in Geneva. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, where he was an usher for many years. Fran was a 60-year member of the Newark Fire Department, NY Central Hose Company #5, and a life member of the Newark Elks. He was a member of the August Mauer Post American Legion and Arcadia Memorial Post VFW. He is survived by his wife, Assunta 'Sue' Siler; a daughter Denise Barry of Liverpool; seven grandchildren: Alene Siler Clark, John Anthony Siler, Ryan and Sean Barry, Neil Siler, Jennifer Siler and Devon Siler; four great-grandchildren; a brother Richard (Dolores) Siler of Newark; nieces and nephews. Fran was predeceased by his parents, son Jeffrey, sister Cora Johnston, and brothers John Jr. and Hubert. Calling hours will be Friday, August 1 from 4 to 8 at the Paul L. Mussack, Richard - Richard C. Eyer Mussack, 86, of Phelps died July 24, 2008 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. Richard was born Jan. 5, 1922, in Hornellsville, Steuben County, the son of Clayson and Helen Eyer. His father died in 1928 and the family moved to Newark. Richard's mother remarried William Mussack, who adopted both Richard and his twin brother, Raymond. Richard graduated from Newark High School and enlisted in the Army on Nov. 10, 1940. He was stationed on Oahu when Pearl Harbor was attacked. He served with the 25th Infantry Division of Guadalcanal, northern Solomons and Luzon Island in the Philippines. He returned home on June 23, 1945, and was honorably discharged July 22, 1945. He married Betty Abbott on Feb. 22, 1946. He worked for Newark State School for 29 and 1/2 years. After retiring, he went to work for Agway. He was a part-time police officer in Phelps for 20 years. Richard was a member of the Woodlane Community Church in Newark. He is survived by his wife, Betty Mussack; children, Kevin Richard (Marcia) Mussack of Seneca Castle and Sylvia May (Howard) Hughson of Phelps; three grandchildren, Victoria Ann 'Tori,' Rachael Celeste and Andrew James. He was predeceased in 1963 by his son, Raymond; his parents, and his twin brother, Raymond. Calling hours are 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday (July 31) at the Cheney Funeral Home, 70 Main St., Phelps. Jendrick, Louis - Louis R. Jendrick, 70, of Lyons, died July 27, 2008. Louis was born September 15, 1937, son of Otto and Beatrice Brown Jendrick. He was a member of AA, where he had many friends. Williams, Robert, "Bobby" - Robert "Bobby" Williams, 65, of Savannah, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Newark-Wayne Community Hospital. Bobby was born the son of the late Wellington and Lillian Johnston Williams on November 16, 1942 in Buffalo. He enjoyed engaging with people he met, one on one. Boos, Dorothy L. - Dorothy L. Boos, 88, of Oaks Corners/Geneva, died peacefully Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Geneva Living Center South. Mrs. Boos was born the daughter of the late Alonzo and Rose Case Smith on December 29, 1919 in Albion, NY. Over the years she had worked for Bausch & Lomb and Hickok Co. in Rochester and Hallagan Manufacturer Co. in Newark. Walking and listening to music were two very enjoyable pass time for her. Anderson, Eleanor - Eleanor T. Anderson, 84, formerly of the Armstrong Living Center, Newark, died July 22, 2008, at the House of John in Clifton Springs. Eleanor was born September 14, 1923, in Rome, NY, to Frank E. and Winnie Wolfe. She retired as secretary to the principal of French Road School in Brighton, and she loved to play the organ. She was a long-time resident of Palmetto, Florida. She is survived by her daughter Priscilla (Paul) Utter of Newark, niece Nancy Venette of Fairport, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Pruner, Marian - Marian F. Pruner, 84, of Newark died July 17, 2008. She was born on April 11, 1924 in Buffalo, daughter of Albert and Pauline Kehnel Schroeder. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Lyons. For nearly 20 years, Marian worked in the housekeeping department at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Nellis, Mary - Mary M. Nellis, 91, of Lyons, died July 12, 2008 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mary was born in Balleymoney, Northern Ireland, June 14, 1917, daughter of James and Elizabeth Gray McConaghie. She worked at Newark Developmental Center. She was a long time member of 1st Lutheran Church where she was a member of the quilters group and helped on Saturdays on the fried dough, which the church did at the Lyons Farmers Market. Survived by her daughter; Diane Nellis Russell of Lyons, Son, James (Maria) of Phoenix, NY; two grandchildren, Erin and Allen Gardner; two great-grandsons, Sebastian and Aidan Cushman; her brother Sammie McConaghie, of Northern Ireland; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Reuben, in May 1987, and by her sister, Fanny Stratton, April 14, 2008. Blackman, Donald - Donald K. Blackman, 73, of Newark, died July 3, 2008 at his home on West Avenue. He was born September 6, 1934, in Newark, the son of Peter A. and Verna Keir Blackman. He had worked for Jackson & Perkins, Sarah Coventry, Ultralife Batteries and retired from the Newark Wayne Community Hospital in 1996. Donald enjoyed his daily walks around Newark. Leonardson, Max - Maxwell A. 'Max' Leonardson, 82, of Newark, died July 4, 2008, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and cancer. Max was born September 19, 1925 in Indiana, to Suen and Mary Brewer Leonardson. He came to New York in 1960 and joined Xerox, where he was employed for 25 years. After retirement, he drove a school bus for North-Rose Wolcott for many years. Max was a veteran, having served in WWII. He was past commander of Wolcott American Legion and member of the Wolcott VFW. He attended the Alton Gospel Tabernacle. Walker, Helen - Helen Taylor Armitage Walker of Phelps and Clifton Springs, died July 5, 2008 in Naples. Schetrompf, Marshall - Marshall D. Schetrompf, 75, of Old Lyons Road, died July 5, 2008. He was born May 20, 1933 in Buck Valley, PA, to Marshall E. and Inez Browning Schetrompf. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954 and a member of the Lyons VFW Post 5092. A graveside service will be held July 10 at 11 a.m. at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oaks Corners. Baker, Lyle - H. Baker of Clifton Springs, formerly of Phelps, died July 3, 2008 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, after suffering a stroke. Lyle was born in Painted Post, the son of Ernest and Sara Baker, and graduated from Hornell High School. He served honorably in World War II in North Africa and the European Theater as a decorated pilot for the United States Air Force. He was shot down over enemy lines in Eastern Europe and was held captive in the final days of the war. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. Following his service, he began his 40-year career with the New York Telephone Company as a lineman. He was an engineer in the company's Geneva office. He was a member of the United Church of Phelps until joining the United Methodist Church of Clifton Springs. A service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Clifton Springs on Saturday, July 19 at 1 p.m. Lyle is survived by his wife, Theresa (Adams) Baker of Clifton Springs. His first wife of over 50 years, Charlotte (Fuller), died in 1996. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Janis and George Jess of Marion, Ohio, son, James Baker of Central Square and daughter, Julie (Robert) Santoro of Albany. His daughter, Leslee (David) Fite predeceased him in 2004. Lyle was the grandfather of James, Doris, Margaret, Susan, Michael, Jacqueline and Christie and seven great-grandchildren: Julia, Matthew, Aedan, Charlotte, Giovanni, Lauren and Sadie. In addition, he is survived by Terri's four daughters and their families, Linda (Dennis) Chateauneuf and their three children, Janice (Michael) Driscoll and their two children, Nancy (Richard) Paige and Holly (Jeffrey) Linsner and their four children. He is also survived by two nephews, one niece, and several cousins in addition to many longtime friends. Wagemaker, Ethel - Ethel M. Wagemaker, 90, of Newark and Walworth, died July 2, 2008 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Ethel was born December 20, 1917 in Manchester, to Edward and Mariah Russell DeWeaver. Ethel grew up in Newark and graduated from Newark High School in 1936. She married Enos Wagemaker, with whom she spent most of her life in Walworth and Florida before moving back to Walworth and then Newark. She had worked for Sibley's in Newark, Crosman Arms in Fairport, the Board of Elections and Piper Aircraft in Florida. She was a member of the Port Gibson Senior Citizens and the Silver Links Rebecca Lodge for 50 years and had served in every office. She was a 53-year-member of Park Presbyterian Church in Newark, where she had been a member of the choir, Sarah Circle and she volunteered for the food closet. She had been a member of the Walworth Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her husband Enos in 1976; two sisters and one brother, and son-in-law Richard Hall. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Hall and Sharon Wagemaker, son Edward (Sharol) Wagemaker; grandchildren Randall, Jeffrey, Andrew and James; great-grandchildren Brandon, Arron, Jeffrey and Andrew. Calling hours are 6 to 8 on Sunday, July 6, at Robert L. Yost Funeral Home, 123 West Main Street, Palmyra, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Newark Cemetery. Serens, Velma - Velma M. Serens, 95, of Newark, died July 1, 2008, at the DeMay Living Center. She was born October 1, 1912, in Shortsville, daughter of John and Florence Raymond Doley. She was a seamstress for more than 25 years at Hallagan Manufacturing. Velma was residing at DeMay Living Center and participated in the Alzheimer's Memories in the Making art program. She is survived by two daughters: Donna (Faris) Khalil of Union Springs, and Florence Hess of Naples; daughter-in-law Carol Russell of Lima; 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, a niece Charlene Lawrence of Macedon, a nephew John Doley of Shortsville. Velma was predeceased by her husbands Harold Russell in 1956, and Frederick Serens in 1985, and in 2007 by her son Frederick Russell. Friends may call Saturday, July 5, from 10-11 a.m. at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Carlos Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Palmyra Cemetery. Herman, Leslie - Leslie G. Herman, 86, of Savannah died July 1, 2008. He was a lifelong farmer. He was born in South Sodus o
