Missing Sodus
From Webster, we traveled east and decided to wander around Sodus and Sodus Point. We stopped to visit with Melanie and her daughter, Shawna, who were out walking their dogs over by the credit union. The last I'd seen of Melanie, our dogs Shadow and Sarah played together. (Of course, Sarah looks very different now. She has grown muscular, but still has a puppy mind. In fact, she just flew over the couch. Every time I look up from my keyboard she is racing past me with something that doesn't belong to her. Wait till Caesar sees what she did to his blanket.) In our travels though Wayne County it felt almost as if we'd never left. (It did feel odd to see a stranger working in my garden.) Did you see the Abe Lincoln of Sodus Point with his Easter basket? So cute!
The Sodus Point Community Association is dedicated to improving the village through landscaping, seasonal decoration and community events. Anyone interested in becoming a member is encouraged to attend the next meeting on Monday, April 12, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at Pier Pointe East Marina (next to the Sodus Bay Yacht Club) on Clover St., Sodus Point. All are welcome! Don't forget to go to the library for National Library Week. To celebrate, the Williamson Library is having an Open House all week. There will be refreshments, door prizes, give-a-ways and "Amnesty" (NO FINES).
The Sodus Library will be busy this week. They will be participating in the "Great New York Read Aloud" on Sunday, April 11 at 2:30 p.m. Carol has several people lined up to read and everyone who is attending has been invited to bring something with them (appropriate for all family members) that they would like to share with the group. The program is informal with chairs set up in a circle and they will read around the circle. All ages are welcome. On Monday April 12th (my sister's birthday) Helen Combes will be having the regular weekly Story Hour at 10:30 a.m . When we went years ago the children got out their pieces of carpet, gathered around Mrs. Combes who did little warm up exercises and read them many stories. Afterward, they would color a picture at the big round table in the children's area. On Tuesday April 13 at 6 p.m. the Library is offering a free, hands-on "Introduction to the Internet" Class. The class size will be limited to 10 because only five laptop computers are available. If you are interested you should call the library as soon as possible to register. The class will be conducted by Linda Clark Benedict from the Pioneer Library System. The class is made possible by the Federal LSTA CyberTrain Grant.
(Sarah just took a bite out of my Jade plant then tried eating hand lotion. She's walking toward me with a flower in her mouth. Perhaps she wants to Tango, or perhaps she's going crazy. She's just acting her age...) Thanks to Carol Garland who kept me informed of the Sodus Library's activities this week. Please remember to send in your special dates and activities so I can add them to the column. You can find me at And since the weather is getting nicer, I'll be visiting Wayne County more often. If you see someone in a little red Escort taking pictures, it's just me! Hope to hear from you soon. Copyright © 1999 |
