Newark Zoning Board meets

The Newark Zoning Board of Appeals met Monday afternoon and heard an application by Harold Adams of Adams Construction and Doreen Doucette, owner of a property at 109 Elmwood Ave.

Adams, speaking for his client, Doreen Doucette, requested an area variance to construct a 7-ft. by 21-ft. front porch, 15.1 feet from the road right of way, instead of the required 35 feet. The builder described the type of construction that would be used for the proposed porch and roof. No one was present at the meeting to comment for or against the variance.

Board member Tim McCusker made a motion that the variance request be approved, with the stipulation that the porch be an open porch only, not a living area. The remainder of the zoning board agreed and the project passed 4-0.

The only other business to come before the board was a request by Peter Miller of Clemen Sign Co., and Wayne County Motorcycle Club for a special permit to install a new sign 180 sq. ft., instead of the allowable 32 sq. ft., on property at 6834 Route 31 East. The board waited until almost 4:30 for Miller to arrive, then ruled an automatic denial of the Special Permit, for failure of the applicant to appear.
