Letter from the Marion Supervisor
By Monica Deyo

Another Youth Baseball season has ended, and we had almost 300 kids participate this year. The entire program was organized and coordinated by John Rector, who was assisted by his wife, Laurie, and their children. It is a tremendous task and they begin planning as early as December so that everything is set to go by the first weekend in May. We are also fortunate to have a large number of coaches, as well as some dedicated umpires who have been led by Steve Dahlberth. Many, many thanks to all of you for volunteering so much of your time in order to make this a very successful program. We could not have offered this without your efforts.

Another volunteer effort was coordinated by the Mormon cast and crew members who were involved in their spectacular pageant this year. Thanks to their hours of community service, the entire concrete floor in the basement of the Grange was broken up and removed from the building, leaving only the dirt floor which is now ready for the installation of the drains and a new floor.

The water project on the west side of Route 21 is in the stage of seeking financing to assist the residents so that the cost will fall within the guidelines as determined by the State Comptroller's office. The first areas to be served will be the portion of Dean Road to Eddy Ridge Road, Eddy Ridge Road, Ball Road, VanCruyningham Road, and the south end of Route 21 to the Palmyra line. This summer's drought conditions have emphasized the need to have public water available throughout the Town, since many wefts have either gone dry or m producing bad water. The Town Board is determined to provide town-wide water during the coming years.

I would like to relay a message from Linda Shaffer, our County Clerk. The State has decided that all mail-in registrations will go directly to Albany instead of being sent to Lyons, you will notice on your renewals that the Lyons address is no longer the pre-printed one. Not only does this mean a significant delay in processing (weeks instead of days), but we are losing the money which used to be reimbursed to us for performing this service. You can continue to mail your registration to Lyons by addressing the envelope yourself or by picking up a pre-addressed one at the Town Hall. Another change is that, due to a request by the banks, the DMV can no longer pro-rate your checks for the registration of RVs, motorcycles, and snowmobiles as the clerks used to do themselves by manually changing the fee written on your check.

To assure that you are not paying more than the exact number of months for which you are registering your seasonal vehicle, either leave blank the 'Pay to the order of' section on your check for the clerks to fill in, or bring your registration in to the DMV office in person and fill it out with the amount which they will provide for you at the window. Youll save money if you choose one of these options.

Save the dates of August 28 and 29 for the Heritage Festival in the Park. There are so many activities this year that it promises to be even more fun for the entire family. Watch your newspapers for the next few weeks for more information, or pick up a flyer and a program from your local merchants in Marion and the surrounding towns. All performances and events are free. We shall also have the Magnificent Main Street Parade again on Sunday at 1 p.m.
