Missing Sodus
Do you believe it's August already? Before you know it , it'll be time for school shopping and getting up early in the mornings. Enjoy it while you can. Happy Birthday to Doug Clark, who will be celebrating Tuesday, August l0. If you see him, wish him a great day. (Getting older is not as much fun when you're an adult as it was when you were a child. Have you noticed?) The Dinner Dogs will be singing up a storm at the Williamson library on Wednesday, Aug.
11 for the Millennium Party. We always enjoyed listening to them - they have so many good
songs and have a good time singing them. (Did you know that Dick Leschhorn is related to
the Leschhorn family in Ontario? For a while, we'd follow them around with Janet and the
kids like a little fan club. Six people can make up a fan club, right?) I have to get in
touch with Dick to see if they The Sodus Point Community Center is having its first Mini-Triathlon Sunday morning at 9:30. Kids aged 6-12 are invited to participate at Sodus Point Beach. Registration is $5, and everyone receives a medal and a bag of goodies. There will be a Dog Show on Satuurday, August 21 to benefit the Community Center. Check your local papers for times. Last year's show was a lot of fun. (My Boxer, Sarah, would be asked to leave, I'm afraid. We're still working on obedience. She only 'sits' if she thinks I'm going to feed her something. And as for agility, she goes under the couch or over top of the couch to retrieve a tennis ball.) The Cancer Action Support group meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, 7-8:30 p.m., at the Father Cavanaugh Parish Center of the Church of the Epiphany, Sodus. And there are free GED classes Tuesdays and Fridays at the First Reformed Church, 9 a.m. - noon; or Mondays and Wednesdays at Sodus Elementary, 6:30-9:30 p.m. The Summer Story Times are done for the summer at the Williamson Library, but the Craft Celebrations will continue until August l0 . A special thanks to everyone who made this summer program so much fun. (We did receive our Party Animals, Mrs. Gravelle. Thank you.) The Sodus Library Reading Program will continue until Saturday, August l4. Story Hour
will continue throughout the summer on Mondays from l0:30-ll:30 . On Thursday, August l9,
the library will be having a picnic at noon with special guest Tom Seiling at l p.m. All
are invited. The Williamson Library has more new books to check out. (The Summer Program is finished, but reading together is a year-long, educational hobby. ) The Sodus Library also has new additions to their young adult book shelf : Vanishing by Bruce Brooks Two books in a new series: Everworld by K.A. Applegate; and Spiders Voice by Gloria Skurzynski (I know many young adults who will be looking forward to reading the new books K.A. Applegate has out.) Don't forget, the libraries also have many video tapes. A special thank you to everyone who made the Sodus Library Summer Reading Program so much fun. (I'll get in touch with Carol and find out what prizes were won, and who the big winners were, and let you know. )
Thank you to everyone who sent me information to add to the column. I greatly appreciate it. I'll be on vacation next week, so be sure to write and let me know how much you missed Missing Sodus... Enjoy your week and enjoy the kids during the weeks that remain for the summer vacation. Remember to take time for yourself as well. (If you find the secret to that one, please let me know!)
