Arden Brust and Jeff Wood, of the Newark Dragons Swim Club will compete at the 1999 Eastern Zone Long Course Meet at the University of Pittsburgh, from August 11 to 14.

Both 12-year-old swimmers had to achieve AAA+ times in the 11-12 year old age group to qualify. They will be representing the Niagara District, which encompasses the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Southern Tier areas of New York State.

The Niagara District has over 5500 USA registered swimmers. The East Coast Zone covers Maine to Virginia. This is the highest level of swimming available for their age group.

Wood qualified and will be swimming the 50 and 100 Back, the 50 and 100 Fly, and the 200 and 400 Free.

Brust qualified and will be swimming in the 50 and 100 Back and the 200 and 400 Free. All events will take place in an Olympic, 50-meter pool. Wood goes into the event with a 31.34 in the 50-meter fly while Brust has a 5:00.38 in the 400 meter Freestyle.
