State Fair starts today

If you're heading to Syracuse for the New York State Fair, you'll find lots of exciting new free features and attractions. The 153rd New York State Fair begins today and runs through Labor Day.

New family entertainment shows include the Marionette Star Theater, Chinese Acrobats, the Sea Lion Splash Show and the return of the Pirates of the Caribbean High Dive.

The popular Craft village is moving adjacent to the Horticulture Building while the high dive and marionette show will be located across from the Youth Building and Kiddieland.

The Agway Exhibit Center is the newly renovated Dairy Cattle Building. The permanent cattle stalls have been removed and the facility now doubles as a major exhibit building throughout the year along with the home of the cattle show during the Fair.

Among the featured attractions is Space Expo 2000 that will be located in the North Wing of the Bell Atlantic Center of Progress Building, NewsCapade a travelling exhibit on the history and new technological frontier of newspapers and a working exhibit of the Corning Museum of Glass in the Art & Home Center.

Space Expo 2000, sponsored by HSBC, is the only touring space-therned attraction in America. The exhibit features an Early Missions display, Kids Discovery Zone, Shuttle Command Center and Millenium Theater.

Discover the mystery and magic of a material that has intrigued humankind for 4,000 years at the Corning Museum of Glass demonstrations. Watch as a glass rod is transformed into an enchanting glass animal in the hands of a highly skilled glass-worker.

The only two travelling Patagonian Seals in North America are featured in the Sea Lion Splash show sponsored by Freihofers. Showtimes are at 1, 4 and 7 p.m. in the Youth Activity Center.

With shows at 2, 5 and 8 p.m. in the Family Fun Center, the Great Wall Chinese Acrobats use a combination of the worlds oldest of acrobatics and Kung Fu martial arts.

Advance fair tickets are $4; at the gate they cost $7.
