Sale, reception at Arts Council

Now on display at Wayne County Council for the Arts is the Holiday Show & Sale, featuring the finest in unique, hand-crafted, locally-made, original arts & crafts.

This Friday (Dec. 3), the Arts Council will host an opening reception for this year's holiday show from 7-9 p.m. Newark recording artist Barb Mater will provide live entertainment and seasonal refreshments will be available.

Admission is always free and the general public is cordially invited. At this reception, Arts Council members can receive a ten percent discount on all purchases. Membership applications will also be available.

Twenty-plus artists have contributed artwork for the sale, which includes paintings, photographs, jewelry, pottery, CDs and tapes, dolls, Christmas decorations, and more, to this annual show which is open to the public until December 24.

In addition to the fine artwork and crafts available for purchase, the Arts Council is holding a silent auction fundraiser for a rare piece of Wayne County art. You have the unique opportunity to bid on an original, signed print by former Newark artist Richard Hawver. Titled 'Till Eulenspiegel and the Spotted Cow,' this exquisite piece of fine art was donated by the family of the artist, who died in 1983 after teaching art in Newark for over thirty years. A retrospective exhibition of his work was mounted by the Arts Council in September.

'Through the Eyes of Richard Hawver' was the Arts Council's most well-attended exhibition of the year. Funds raised from this auction will be used toward the Council's expansion efforts and at making their space handicapped accessible.

Wayne County Council for the Arts is located at 2 Broad Street in Lyons. Gallery hours are weekdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturdays, during the sale, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., or by appointment. To learn more about the Arts Council or to become a member, call 946.5078.
