The county's recycling 2000 schedule

The Western Finger Lakes Authority has published, for the third year, a calendar for the recycling schedule. Residents will receive a brochure in the mail in January with the calendar and other recycling information.

Pick-up continues on an every-other-week basis. The weeks are designated as 'A' or 'B' on the calendar. Anyone who is not sure of their pick-up week should call the Authority office during regular business hours.

The recycling program in Wayne County continues to enjoy strong support from the residents. Participation varies from week to week and month to month, but generally, around 70 percent of houses participate regularly. Nearly every household participates at one time or another.

The Materials Recovery Facility, the building where curbside recycling trucks empty their loads, is running. Every day, 25 to 30 tons of materials are delivered. The crew must separate the materials and prepare them for shipping by tractor-trailer. Every day, one to four or five trucks are loaded and sent on the road.

Recycling materials go all over the northeast United States and into Canada. Materials collected in Wayne County go into recycled products that are sold all over the world.

If you have questions or concerns about the recycling program, please call the Western Finger Lakes Authority at 946.7650 or 1.800.724.3867.
