Jill M. Kepler has been named to fall semester Dean's List at Barton College in Wilson, NC.

Heather Murdoch of Buffalo was a weekend guest of Gretchen Wolfanger last week.

Rene VandeVelde is recuperating at his home following open heart surgery.

Grace Franke had recent foot surgery at the Rochester General Hospital.

Kelly Fisher was a patient at Rochester General recently.

Congratulations to Spelling Bee winners: 7th grade: Jared Schutt, Hannah Lawliss, Alyss Johnson; first place was Francesca Knowles. 8th grade: Jen Birmingham, Ted Sterchi, Dan Adriaansen; first place, Owen McNamara. The winners will compete at the elementary school on Feb. 26. Many faculty and staff members helped with the Spelling Bee.

The Mission Committee at the United Church continues to collect new mittens, scarves, hats and jackets for the less fortunate. A box is placed in the narthex for these items.

Marion Community Carnival Committee needs new members. Many will retire after this year. Call Deb Roegiers at 926-5856.

The 5th and 6th grades at the United Church, in keeping with their "Working Hands" theme, will continue to collect donations of bottles, cans and money for Kristen Caves, the young girl from Wolcott who is fighting cancer. Sunday will be the last day in which you may donate to this fund. A large box is located in the narthex where cans, bottles, and monetary donations can be placed.

"Think Snow" for Sunday, Feb. 14, when the Miller's Mills Grange has their annual Ice Harvest event. Cutting begins at 11 a.m. and continues until the ice house is filled. Free horse drawn sleigh rides, admission and parking. Food is available at the Grange Building and at the Church. Keeping a tradition in a community can be a wonderful affair for everyone. FEBRUARY 3, 1928 - Marion Grange met Saturday afternoon for a lively meeting with much interest. The Grange passed favorably on the action to put licensed hunters off farms, unless permission was obtained from the owner.

Sports:

The JV girls lost to Wayne Central 42-18. Katie Lewis led with 7 points and 9 rebounds. The team defeated Williamson 29-20. High scorers were Lewis and Katie Pentland with 6 points each, Lisa Colling and Jennifer Devlin with 5 points.

The varsity girls lost to Wayne in overtime, 37-33. The Lady Knights beat Williamson 57-37. Mary Lanzone and Shannon Gaston led with 25 and 15 points.

The Lyons boys beat Marion 73-49. Early this week, Clyde-Savannah basketball team won, 70-61. Brian Roegiers scored 24 points and Justin Hutt had 13.

On Feb. 2, Marion wrestlers defeated Dundee 39-21. Marion is 6-3 overall on the mats.
