Newark junior's award-winning painting

Pictured is Merrill Stephens, a junior at Newark High School, the daughter of Christine and Henry Stephens. She is shown beside her Gold Key-winning painting, an acrylic called "Pears."

The painting is on its way to New York City for more competition. The Scholastic Art Exhibit is at Monroe Community College Damon City Campus until March 12.
