Lyons Church wins anti-racism grant The First Presbyterian Church of Lyons was selected for an anti-racism grant that is funded through the Presbyterian Church USA. The Lyons church was one of 13 Presbyterian churches, around the country to be awarded a matching grant for anti-racism training in the church and community. The grants represent a part of a larger strategy encouraging the Presbyterian Church to take a prophetic role in combatting racism. Leslie Leo, of Lyons and an Elder of the church, wrote the application for the national grant. She is helping to coordinate this special training program, along with John Joyce, the Dean of Students at the Lyons High School and the Rev. Cynthia Huling Hummel, the Pastor of the Presbyterian church. The anti-racism training will begin in March with a training program for facilitators, who will in turn, lead neighborhood groups in their homes. It is described as a grassroots project. For additional information on the program, call the First Presbyterian Church of Lyons at 946-4723.
