Invent Fair at Lyons Elementary The Lyons Elementary School will be holding an Invent America Fair on Thursday, March 4, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m and 6-7:30 p.m. in the school's large gymnasium and computer lab. The Fair, under the direction of Brenda Neal and Marina Perkins and the Lyons Elementary School Science/Technology Committee, will display many invention and science projects made by students at the school. The Invent America program is open for students in grades K through 6. Students are to think and create a new invention that has not been made before or make an improvement of an existing product. Inventors come from all walks of life, rich or poor, young or old. All you need to begin inventing is an idea. Inventors have made the United States a great and powerful nation and because of these inventors our quality of life we live today has greatly improved. Students at Lyons Elementary School will have the opportunity to think seriously about a possible invention, design and create a new invention that may someday change the way Americans do things today and into the 21st century. In the past, Lyons Elementary School has sponsored a Science/Technology Fair in which students have presented projects dealing with manipulative (hands-on) and non-manipulative (hands-off) experiments. Although the theme this year is inventions, students will be able to continue their discoveries at a higher level. They will have to become problem solvers and critical thinkers in order to develop an invention on their own. As in the past, the Science/Technology Fair has been a rewarding and educational experience for young and old alike. Invent America gives students the opportunity to be inventors, scientists and problem solvers.
