STAR deadline looms At presstime, NYS Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver was proposing legislation that would extend the deadline for the School Tax Relief (STAR) program. The STAR deadline for most of the state is Monday, March 1. All residential property owners, who claim the property as their primary residence, are qualified for some relief, regardless of income. And although Silver had an eye on an April 15 deadline extension, no action had been taken as of yesterday morning. Arcadia Assessor Larry Quinn says that, until he hears otherwise from the proper officials, he will accept the signed applications through 4 p.m. Monday. He will also accept those mailed applications that arrive at his office postmarked March 1. (And remember - the town offices are closed Saturday and Sunday.) Quinn says that he has no way of knowing how many people have NOT applied, but that he would guess 60 to 70 percent of those qualified have submitted their applications.
