Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

snowyWas that enough snow for everyone? Even snow enthusiasts have a limit. At our house, the "Snow People" went out to sled downhill - even puppy Sarah played for a little while. I stayed in the warm house and took pictures from the window.

Eileen Hooper's Brownie Troop spent their day off creating in the snow. Armed with the usual mittens, boots, coats and gloves, the girls created snow masterpieces with colored water. Julie made two colorful mountains; Nikki made a tree; Sue made a face and a castle; and Roxanne came up with a cross and a mushroom.

The creativity didn't stop there. After the snow, the girls went inside to do some finger painting using such things as: a comb, pinecone, a cut apple (for the star) and a potato. Of course, when this was finished, they settled back to admire with hot chocolate and cookies. Sounds like they had a great time.

bouquetSpeaking of the Hooper's, they are anxiously awaiting their trip to Florida. (Must be Eileen's mother has been telling them how nice it is there.)

The girls had a trip to the Museum planned for Saturday, but with the weather being nasty, cancelled the outing. Lately, you never know what you'll run into.

I heard that two greenhouses as Grandpa's Farm Market collapsed under the wieght of last week's snow. I hope they get everything straightened out for the springtime rush.

At least this past week, we've had a small glimpse of the warmer weather. I got a little taste of Springtime when Tom's company sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers in a glass vase...it even smelled like spring. Tom got to spend the week at sales meetings in New Hampshire in the snow (like the rest of us). Other years he and the guys got to fly off to Nevada, Palm Spings and Alcapulco. (I got to go on the Hawaii trip.)

miss debbiCongratulations to Shawna and Jeremy Pike. They'll be going to the Solo Festival in February for the flute. Also, both made the Principal's List, which I'm told is the highest honor roll for Sodus. (Also, congratulations to Melanie and Donny for all those nights of gentle coaxing.)

Usually this time of year, Mary Hoffman and her group begin making plans for the Summer week of Cub Scout Camp. Much time and energy go into planning camp and all the activities. Last year, it was held at Demolay in Sodus Point. It was a perfect spot for it - it's much easier to explain nature when it surrounds you. I will miss camp this year, for many years I was the Tag A Longs leader. What's the theme for this year, Mary?

Have any of you been taking lessons at the new Miss Debi's in Sodus? I was going to sign Rachel up, but then we moved. I still haven't found a place here, but she's into gymnastics now. (Where do they get the energy?)

sunsetThe Come-Unity Center will hold a ham dinner tomorrow (Jan. 23) at the Williamson United Mthodist Church, 4146 E. Main St. The entree includes scalloped potatoes, green beans, slaw and pie. Tickets are available at the Center and Breen's, with all proceeds to Wayne County Rural Ministries and the Come-Unity Center.

So, what have you been doing to keep warm and avoid cabin fever? Write to me:

As the sun sets, or rises as the case may be, I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
