History talk on marbles The next session of History at Noon at the Wayne County Museum will be held February 10 at the Museum on 21 Butternut St., Lyons. The speaker will be Chris Davis who will speak on antique marbles. Marbles have been made for thousands of years, the earliest made of flint, stone, or baked clay. For centuries thereafter, marbles were made of common stone or even real marble. China and crockery marbles were introduced around the year 1800, and when a German glassblower invented a tool called the marble scissors in 1846, production became quick enough to make the sale of glass marbles to the public an economic proposition. The marble's popularity has remained constant throughout the years but it is only in the last 25 years that marble collecting has become widespread. The public is invited to attend this informative lecture. There is no admission and attendees are welcome to bring a bag lunch. Dessert and beverage will be provided by the Wayne County Historical Society and Zappia Vending Service, Inc. As seating is limited, registration is necessary. Call the Museum at (315) 946-4943.
