Missing Sodus We sponsor a little seven-year-old girl from Guatemala and it's always fun when she sends us notes. We have found that she really enjoys receiving little things that many children take for granted, such as stickers, and drinking straws. She has told me she shares the coloring sheets and things with her family. This time she sent us a drawing she made - everything is so bright and cheerful.
There seem to be a lot of events planned for the new month. The second grades of Sodus School are working on their Winter Unit. Ann Hooper and Marilyn Wilson discuss Alaska with the students while Shirley MacDonald does a presentation about Antarctica. For the Winter Unit, there is also a trip to Brantling and a visit to the school by the snowplow. I remember my kids coming home on those days all excited about what they had learned. People come in to tell the students about hockey, ice fishing and the weather. And I can't forget the annual making of the s'mores outdoors. (When Michael told me they had s'mores outdoors I thought he was kidding. How do you make them in the snow? I will find out from Mrs. Southwick how this is done and get back to you.) The celebration of winter will then end with the PJ/Valentine party on the 12. Soon the
students will be also celebrating their 100 days of school. During this time, the students
collect 100 of anything, from toothpicks to candy hearts. All the ideas are different and
creative. I used to love walking down the hallway of the Primary Building looking at all
the posters. The students came up with things I never would have thought of. (We came up
with our share of 100 day things - Mrs. Gravelle from the Williamson Library mentioned to me that the Williamson Library was in the Our Town section of the Democrat & Chronicle. I'm sorry I missed it. The library was selected in the top 10 (#6) in U.S. communities of the same size by Thomas Hennen in American Libraries Magazine. He went through statistics from over 7000 libraries across the US. The Williamson Library was chosen one of the best in the country. Congratulations! Spring is right around the corner, and the bears will be coming out of hibernation soon. Keep an eye out for them - you might find them anywhere. (If you have a collection of bears, write and tell me about it.) I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Copyright © 1999 |
