Project: K-9

My name is Officer Lisa Phillips of the Lyons Police Department. Recently, I had the honor of being appointed the director and organizer of fundraising for a new program our department wishes to implement. The new program is called "PROJECT K-9" and our goal is to raise enough funds to purchase a trained canine and the required equipment and necessary training to start and maintain the program.

For many years now, "man's best friend" has been useful in various aspects of law enforcement. Dogs of select breed and character are capable of being trained for many different jobs in police work such as tracking lost or missing children, evidence recovery, crowd control, handler protection, building searches, tracking escaped prisoners and wanted persons, and area searches, just to name a few.

Most dogs work 9 - 12 years! A dog has a remarkable sense of scent like no other domesticated animal. One of the most common uses for a K-9 program is drug detection. Unfortunately, one of the most common problems our community faces is illegal drug use and activity. It will be my sincere effort and the goal of our police department to establish a K-9 Unit to help fight drug and criminal activity in our community.

Below are the estimated costs to implement PROJECT K-9:

- Multi-purpose trained canine (includes cost of handler training): $7,500
- Equipment, uniforms, food, housing, veterinary, maintainence, etc.: $2,500
- Our Goal: $10,000

Any donation you can give to PROJECT K-9 will be greatly appreciated. Your kindness will aid us in helping to fight the war against drugs and provide a safer community for our children and families.

Please send check or money order (NO CASH) to:

Thank you for your support!

Sincerely,
Officer Lisa Phillips
