ECCC events for Peppermint Days

The Erie Canal Cultural Center will be hosting a variety of events at the Center, 165 Water Street in Lyons, during the Lyons Peppermint Days.

On Fri., July 16, from 1 until 8 p.m., and on Sat., July 17, noon to 8 p.m., there will be an art and history exhibit on both floors of the front building. The paintings of Jenny Kingsley and Ann Collins will be on display, along with a display of welding fabrication and metal-smithing by students at North Rose-Wolcott School District. Historical artifacts and illustrations related to the Hammett Building, the Lyons Vinegar Works and the canal itself will be on display also.

On Sat., July 17, there will be a Hammett Building History Open House from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Individuals who worked at the Vinegar Works or Hammett, neighbors and area residents, are welcome to tour the building, share memories, pictures and memorabilia. Center staff will have a scanner available to digitize pictures, advertising, old work orders and other related documentation for use in creating a facility history.

Also on Saturday, Chicken BBQ dinners will be available, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The BBQ will be set up in the east parking lot. Tickets are $6 for a full dinner and $4 for a half-chicken. Tickets will also be available for a free drawing. Completed tickets must be deposited in the drawing box at the Center to be eligible for one of three prizes - a gift basket from Peppermintz, a gift certificate for local shopping, or a canal cruise from Midlakes.

There will also be a "Bottle Table." Purchase a $1 ticket in the park, take it to the Center and match up the ticket number with a prize from the table. Everyone takes something away.
