Missing Sodus

flowersDo you believe July is almost over? Just when I get the garden the way I want it to look, the frost will come and take care of everything!

The foot is healing, but the removable cast seems to be getting much heavier. (Im probably getting weaker).

I spoke to Eileen Hooper via e-mail and she said that the fireworks are wonderful down there. (I'm jealous. Do they have fireworks every night?! I haven't seen any yet this year - the kids' sparklers don't count.)

The Williamson Library attracted quite a crowd at the presentation with Larry Moss. Sounded like another fun one and I missed it. The library has gotten many new books to check out and read. roseswhether its for the summer program or just for fun. Next week, I do believe the celebration will be Mardi Gras. Sounds like lots of fun. This week's theme was Pow Wow. (Mrs. Gravelle, what does someone do at a Pow Wow Celebration?) Some of these themes might be fun to use for the kids' Birthday parties.

Don't forget the Summer Story Times at the Williamson Library are on Tuesday mornings at l0:30 a.m. through August 3. The Craft Celebrations are on Tuesdays from ll:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. through August l0 (throughout the day craft projects are available). Children must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

Condolences to the Hurley family on their loss. Walter James Hurley passed away Sunday, July l8. Calling hours were Tuesday at the Norton Funeral Home in Sodus; Mass of the Resurrection was held Wednesday at the Church of the Epiphany. (Thank you, Father Dave. )

dogThe Sodus Library is busy with their reading program as well. Every time you visit the library, don't forget to put your name into the prize drawing box. Carol Garland has enlightened me on the specific programs that happen during the week. The REad TO Me Club that meets on Tuesdays from l - 2 p.m. invites the readers to bring along something they've enjoyed reading, and each takes turns reading to the group. No one is forced to read, however, and if they'd like to come to listen, they are welcome. So far, during Sandy's Crafts on Fridays, the children have made watermelon suncatchers from pony beads, and a heart, ribbon and flower wallhanging out of clay. Carol said both projects were really beautiful. (Also, Sandy is good at explaining how to do the crafts. Anytime I ever visited the Kraft Shack, she was always so patient with me. Sometimes I'd get an idea in my head, but not know how to get the finished product.) Don't forget - Storytime at the Sodus Library is on Mondays from l0:30-ll:30.

(At this point, my kids would love to be able to go to the library. Good thing we have some books here to get us through until this cast comes off and I can drive.)

Are you getting ready for the Sodus Field Days and Kiddie Parade? This year, it's on August 4 (line dogup behind the Methodist Church). Start planning now to decorate your bicycle, wagon, or float.

The Alton Fire Dept. is looking for good, used merchandise for the coming auction. You can clean out your garage and attic and drop your stuff any Tuesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. (Or call 483.8498 for pick-up.)

Everyone seems to be keeping really busy this summer. Keep me posted by e-mailing me at

With all the summer weddings, carnivals, parties, picnics, etc., it's nice just to sit out in the yard and relax. Don't forget to enjoy each other, take a few books out on the porch swing, and read alone or with the kids.
