Babysitting courses

The Wayne County Chapter American Red Cross has scheduled several babysitting courses for the summer vacation season. The newly-revised course has been designed around five major themes: leadership, safety and safe play, basic care, First Aid, and professionalism.

Participants must be at least 11 and will learn:

  • ways to prevent accidents and illnesses and identify solutions to safety-related problems;
  • basic care responsibilities for feeding, diapering, toileting, rest, sleep, holding, and dressing;
  • to use the action steps check-call-care to respond to an emergency.

In addition to training, youth participants will receive the American Red Cross Babysitter's Handbook.

Classes are:

June 29 & 30, 8 a.m.-noon at the Alex Eligh Community Center, East Ave., Newark. Call the Red Cross Office at 331-3783 to register;

July 20 & 21, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Marion Public Library, 3827 N. Main St., Marion. Call Marion Public Library at 926-4933 to register;

July 26 & 27, 8 a.m.-noon at Park Presbyterian Church, Maple Court, Newark. Call the Red Cross office at 331-3783 to register;

August 11 & 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Alasa Farms, Shaker Rd., Alton. Call the Red Cross office at 331-3783 to register.

Class sizes are limited. Registration information is available by calling the Red Cross office.
