"Danza Espana" is coming to Newark

The Kelley School PTA will have Andrea Del Conte - Danza Espana at the Newark High School Auditorium on Tuesday, March 9 at 7 p.m.

This project is made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts' Decentralization Program, which is administered locally by Wayne County Council for the Arts.

In a 45-minute program, dancer/narrator Andrea Del Conte along with a flamenco singer, guitarist and one other dancer presents a highly evolved performance event that incorporates the essence of flamenco, the relationship between each of the components, the dance, the guitar and the singing, and their historical significance in world culture.

Del Conte describes and demonstrates with her company members the technique of Flamenco, including the arm work, the footwork, the rhythmic clapping and the use of the castanet. Dances are performed in full costume and audience participation in encouraged. The programs ends in a lively fiesta, celebrating the beauty of ethnic dance and music.
