to Lyons

The New York State Police Newark barracks has moved and changed the name to NYSP Lyons.

The Troopers moved from Newark into their newly built barracks on March 1. Trooper George Wendell, a Newark resident, looks over the map in the communications center at the new barracks.

Sergeant Ponell Lang, SP Lyons Station Commander, says they have more room at the new facility than at the old building. According to Sergeant Lang, "We have increased our space to 4200 square feet on the first floor alone, with a full basement for storage. This increase in our operational space affords us present and future opportunities to expand our technical and computer capabilities at SP Lyons. Those zones designated for public use are wheelchair accessible, and afford our citizens enhanced access to State Police services available in Wayne County."

Troopers will present their new station to the public in an open house in June.
