Wayne County Fish dominate LOC Derby
"Wayne County has always produced some fine fish during the spring," stated Outdoor Recreational Promotional Coordinator, Chris Kenyon. We usually lead derbies with brown trout, however during this year's event, we came in strong in every division." Julius Rutty of Ithaca (pictured) caught the first place fish in the Adult Salmon Division. Rutty caught his 28.8-pound fish just east of Sodus Point on April 3, the first day of the derby. It was the largest fish caught in Wayne County.
On the last day of the derby, Richard Hatch weighed a 18.8 pounder to take second. Hatch took home $1000 for his effort. Wayne County also had five winners in the Adult Brown Trout Division. Richard Allen, who lives in Palmyra caught the third place brown near Port Bay. Allen's fish weighed 16.10 pounds. Adam Sarma, 15, of Rochester shows off his 29 lb. 10 oz. King Salmon. He won $20,000 in prize money. The LOC Youth Division also had an impressive number of fish that came from Wayne County. First Place in the brown trout division went to Robert Dluzak, from Victor. Dluzak caught his 17.4-pound brown just north of Sodus Point. First Place in the Youth Steelhead Division went to Robert Baylor from Maryland. Baylor caught his 14.8-pound steelie cast of Sodus Bay.
"Wayne County ended the LOC Derby with fifteen fish winning money or prizes," Kenyon said. "I was impressed, not only with the first place fish, but with the number of youths participating from our area." Two young anglers made the leader board, and 10 youths from the county entered the derby.
