Major water line break on Newark's south end
By John Zornow

Water service to Ultra-Life Batteries, Schlegel Corp., Silver Hill Road, and Pine Ridge Drive was interrupted for several hours on Tuesday when a 14-inch water transmission line failed.

The cast iron line, circa early 1900's, was part of a line that ran originally from Newark Lake to supply the village.

Village water crews, under the direction of manager Jim Bridgeman, worked until approximately 11:45 p.m. to repair the break under bleak weather conditions.

The village forces are to be commended for their efforts to protect the safety and health of the village.
