World Aids Day plans being made at Lyons Church The Wayne County Task Force on AIDS invites the public to the third annual candlelight memorial service to honor World AIDS Day. The theme 'AIDS - End The Silence; Listen, Learn, Live,' was chosen to encourage people around the world to open new lines of communication concerning the AIDS epidemic. The goal of this theme is to motivate people, particularly adolescents and young adults under age 25, to speak out about the issues and to educate themselves and others to help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS. The memorial senrice will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 11 Queen St., Lyons, at 7 p.m. on December 1. Participants will celebrate the lives of men and women who have lost their battles with AIDS. The Lyons Rotary band 'Tossed Salad' will provide music for the event, and a dessert reception will follow. This will be the 12th worldwide observance of World AIDS Day, a day the world is called to unite in memory of those whose lives that have been claimed by HIV/AIDS and to support those who are courageously fighting the disease. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projections, approximately 40,000 new cases of HIV infection occur each year in the U.S. As many as 50% of those cases may be among young people under the age of 25. Through a grant provided to Wayne Courty Public Health from the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute, the task force has been cooperating with that agency to provide educational and prevention information to young people throughout the county.
