Missing Sodus
This year I really am confused, in regards to the decorations. I know I should have the fall and Thanksgiving things up, but the Christmas things are so pretty. Everytime we drive around, the wreaths with the big red bows are up, and lights are everywhere. I guess others are confused, as well. It's probably natural, since we've been seeing Christmas things since Halloween. Santa will be coming to the Willow Park in Sodus Point on December 4 at 4 p.m. He will be coming by Fire truck. The Intermediate School Choir will be there, and there will be an Ice Safety Presentation by Bill VanGee. If weather permits, bring along your sled. (This is a strange but nice November, isn't it? The flowers are still out. Perhaps there will be opportunities for winter fun at the park later in the month.) The Williamson Library has been busy with their storytimes, which sound as if they have been successful. A new Lap Sit storytime for the 24-month-olds to 3 years of age will be beginning again during National Childrens Book week. The Library has replaced their book boxes with new Book Packs and Robin tells me they are a big hit. The children's area is getting ready for the Christmas season, as well. The Christmas Crafts Program will be held December 7, l4 and 21 from l0 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the program room. Children will be able to enjoy holiday music while they make the decorations to take home. Sounds like a lot of fun. Mrs. Gravelle, who is the new Director at the Library, has many exciting plans for the upstairs portion of the Library. A new Young Adult area has been set up with a display of new books just for young adults. There is special comfy seating, homework supplies, snacks, comics, magazines and, Mrs. Gravelle said it's a cool place to relax. Many new books are on order and will be arriving soon. Also, there is music in the upstairs library for background and coffee and pastries in the adult area. If you haven't visited the Williamson Library in a while you should go take a peek! Never fear, we have books of our own to share this week too. Just click here. The Schoolhouse Country Store is having a Holiday open house November 26 - 28; l0 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Schoolhouse is located on the corner of Maxwell and Lake Rds., Sodus. December 4, the Village of Sodus will have the Santa Train Ride and the tree lighting ceremony at the Village park on Main Street. Train rides are noon and 2 p.m. The tree lighting ceremony will be at 4 and, it is said that, Santa will be out and about all day. (We went for many of the Santa Train rides and had a lot of fun. Do dress warmly! ) Also on December 4, St. John's Episcopol Church on Main Street from l0- 3 will be having lunch, a cookie walk, baked goods, fresh wreaths, a raffle and Debbie Mumm items. I wonder if the Church will be going caroling this year? The kids and I went with them a few years ago and really enjoyed ourselves. December 4 is a busy day - Wolcott will be hosting an Olde Fashioned Christmas Holiday parade. Santa will arrive in the parade and will be on hand for the kiddies to visit and tell him those special Christmas favorites theyd like under the tree. There will be music, caroling, food and merchant booths. Looking a fun Christmas movie to rent or borrow from the library? The Santa Clause with Tim Allen is one of our favorites, and Jack Frost is cute with Michael Keaton. If you prefer animated movies, Timmys Christmas Present a Precious Moments movie and Anna Bells Wish. Good luck with all your Christmas shopping and decorating. Remember to take the time to enjoy the season. Fix a cup of hot chocolate and rent a Christmas movie; read a few seasonal stories together or go for walk in the snow (when we get some). Do you have memories of Christmas past or stories you'd like to share? Please write to me at Now, it's off to make turkey pot pie, turkey soup, turkey sandwiches, turkey pizza (?) ...Just kidding. Enjoy your week. Copyright © 1999 |
