Happenings

By Carolyn Adriaansen (926-4436)

My son Brian and I traveled around the Marion streets and roads taking a video of the lovely fall scenes, so colorful and beautiful. It will be added to our museum archives.

The Leaning Barn will hold its Holiday Open House on November 5, 6, 7.

The traditional Get Out To Vote sauerkraut dinner will be held at the Marion Elementary School on Nov. 2. Proceeds go to the Dr. Bovet Scholarship Fund.

Family Night Roller Skating Party, sponsored by the PTA, will be Oct. 29 from 7-8:30 at the elementary school. All kids must be accompanied by an adult.

Can it be a mistake that STRESSED is DESSERTS spelled backwards?

Oct. 23 is Make A Difference Day. Again, the youth group of the United Church will collect bottles and cans, coats, blankets, hats, mittens, boots and scarves. Call 926.5501 and leave a message to have things picked up. Or you may drop them at the church from 9-noon.

October 22, 1953: A group of second-year French students from Marion Central were off to Montreal on October 10 in two cars driven by Dr. and Mrs. Donald Bovet and Miss Elizabeth Kilbourne. The purpose was to become acquainted with their Canadian neighbors and to read street signs and menus in French.

The youth at St. Gregory's will be Trick or Treating for Food on Oct. 24 around 6:30 p.m. in downtown Marion. Place your contributions on the front porch steps. All items go to the Marion Food Pantry.

Dear Sidewalk: As Marion's Town historian, I would have done anything to get our school bell back where it belongs. I am on the fund raising committee and plan to support any events, therefore contributing my family's estimated $4 per share.

Dorothy Ocque is recuperating following knee surgery.

Congratulations to Annette Lee and Shane McGrath, who were married in the United Church on Oct. 9.

Kay Oosterling was the guest organist at the United Church on Oct. 17.

Best wishes to Robert Knorr and Michelle Mables, who were married in the United Church on Oct. 16.

Roger Larwood underwent successful surgery; he and Sheila are now at home at Green Meadows in Lyons.

HEAR YE - The United Church is holding their chicken and biscuit dinner on Oct. 25. Servings start at 4:30. Don't miss this one!

The school band members are taking orders for the citrus sale from Nov. 2-15. Tentative delivery date for the fruit is December 16. Plan to support these band members and enjoy fresh fruit from Florida.
