School buses, candidates on Newark ballot

In addition to the selection of a new board member to replace Gloria Matias, voters of the Newark Central School District will be asked next Thursday to decide on a school bus replacement.

Buses on ballot. The proposed purchase in the amount of $258,863 includes one 7- passenger bus, a 66-passenger bus, a wheelchair-accessible bus, and three passenger vans. State aid will cover 89% of the total cost, bringing the amount of local share down to approximately $28,500.

A Meet The Candidates Night (LIVE on FLTV channel 12) is scheduled for Tuesday, September 7 between 8 and 9 p.m. at the High School, with a repeated special airing on Finger Lakes Television, Channel 12 , on Wednesday, September 8, at 8 to 9 p.m.

The vote is Sept. 9 from 9 until 9.

The new board member to vote on will finish Gloria Matias's term expiring June 30, 2000. Voters will asked to choose between Newark residents Dr. Louis Jasper of Summit Drive, and John Strait of Jefferson Street.
