Missing Sodus Wasn't it a gorgeous Labor Day weekend? I tried to do some getting ready for the fall season but it was just too hot! Seems funny to be getting ready for cold weather when it's 90 degrees! The kids are all back in school now and have adjusted to the fact that summer vacation is over. (Me, too. Getting up at 5 makes you realize the party is over. At least until the next vacation day - October, I believe.) Now, be honest - how many parents celebrated by going out to breakfast with friends that morning? Don't forget the Kraft Karnival this Saturday at the Kraft Shack from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (I may have added an extra half hour to the fun in last week's column.) There are many cute crafts to make while you're there browsing - an Angel Candlestick, a Scarecrow Candle, a Cheesecloth Ghost. Go and have a good time!
I spoke via e-mail to Carol Garland of the Sodus Library who said that 83 children, from Pre-K and up, participated in the Summer Reading Program. The last event was a picnic and Tom Seiling entertained, with 65 people attending. Tom presented 'Get Down With the Bugs and Bears.' Everyone enjoyed listening and singing along. I'm sure the meeting room was hopping! The Library Program had many winners:
In the Intermediate Reader Group (lst thru 3rd graders): Steven Cole, Evie Myerly, Gabi Gauger, Jessica Jonasse, Sami Beckins, Carlos Cintron , Kauleah Gee, Isaiah Gulino, Mandi Torres, Christina Wahl,Stephanie Clark, and Edward Hintz were the winners in this group. In the Super Readers Group ( 4th grade and Up): Sarah Danforth, Caitlin Gallacher, Ashley Baumgartner, Ian Gauger, Cara Davidson, Amelia Hintz, Jeri Beckens, Jarrett Davidson, Joseph Chiarenzelli, Brian Cole, Jeff Deen-Clingan, and Stephanie Riekstins Were the winners of this group. Congratulations to all of them, and to the participants in the Summer Reading Program...Great job! Now that we have mentioned reading, here are some children's books we think you'll enjoy: Good Job Oliver by Laurel Molk
Grandma's Promise by Elaine Moore The Puddle by David McPhail And these three by Beatrix Potter: The Tale of Two Bad Mice, The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin, and The Story of a Fierce Bad Rabbit. The first books are fun to read and are great for storytime, during the day or bedtime. The Beatrix Potter books can be a little confusing and perhaps scary to the younger readers, even though they come in small, perfect sizes for little hands. Thanks to everyone who has sent me information for the column - it is much appreciated. Write to me at: I'm looking forward to hearing from you. (Hey, Al Dobbin how did your family reunion go? Bet it was fun and filled with singing and dancing..talk to you soon. ) Copyright © 1999 |
