Jasper wins Newark school election

The Rev. Louis R. Jasper is now a member of the Newark Board of Education.

Dr. Jasper had a narrow 19-vote victory in Thursday's election over candidate John Strait. Both were seeking to fill the seat recently vacated by Gloria Matias.

The retired Dr. Jasper has served as interim pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Newark; has been a missionary to deaf people, school chaplain, teacher, professor and consultant.

District voters also approved the purchase of three new school buses, one with wheelchair accessability.
