Yesterday afternoon, 37 people met at the Newark Public Library for lunch. The men and women attending were town supervisors and library directors.

Newark Public Library board member Jim Dorn played guitar and sang 'So Many Colors in the Rainbow' by Harry Chapin.

There are 13 libraries in Wayne County, and they receive money each year from the county coffers.

Currently, library directors are asking for an additional $19,900 for children's library services. These include story hours, summer reading program, movies, arts and crafts, books, audio-visual materials.

Newark Library Director Elly Dawson (pictured with Dorn) said that county-wide, since January 1999, new library cards have been issued to 1937 young children.

Dawson concluded, "The year 2000 brings with it a focus on the children of Wayne County. The libraries of Wayne hope that your support can help us keep in touch with all of the children in our communities."
