Cross country Invitational
For the girls, Newark's main rival was Liverpool. The Section 3 school is currently ranked 20th among large schools in New York State. The Reds are ranked 10th among B schools. Erin Daly (pictured) and Amanda Leeuwen took 1-2 for the home team. Freshmen Christine Seppeler and Angle Washburn finished 6th and 8th respectively. The Reds' 5th runner was Lacie Urban in 26th place. Brittany Burgess was 28th. 'If we had had the whole team, we would have beaten Liverpool,' said Contario. 'But everyone ran very well, so we're satisfied.' League rival Victor was third in the team scoring. In the boys varsity, Jesse Contario and Patrick Tellier didn't run. Contario, last
year's State Champion in the two-mile in track, is injured and Tellier was sick. The Reds
were still able to take second place behind Victor. Exchange student Gudeta Roba
(pictured) and Peter Chambers finished 1-2 in this race, with Mike Griepsma taking
7th. Completing the scoring were Dan Frey in 13th and Jamie Bialek in 22nd. 'It's never
easy to lose, In races for varsity runners not in the team top 10: Shawn Orlopp placed 2nd (20:25), Ryan O'Connell was 24th (22:43), and Chris Mooney was 41st (25:24). Jadzia Biskupska, just coming back from an illness, was 16th (25:39), Rachel Prong was 30th (27:31), Lauren Christler was 32nd (27:51, and Laurie Bastian was 38th (28:26). Newark will be competing in the McQuaid Invitational in Rochester tomorrow.
