Parker keeps breaking records

Newark sophomore track star LaTanya Parker broke a 1981 record in the shotput event on April 24 at the Penn Relays.

Parker broke the Section 5 record held by Penn Yan's Heather Wachob. LaTanya ParkerParker's toss was 44 feet 6 and 3/4 inches (good enough for a second place finish at the University of Pennsylvania). Wachob's record shotput toss in 1981 was 44 feet.

Parker was on the 4x100 relay team that qualified for the national finals. Only 16 of the 300 squads made the last round.

Briana Winkler, Tanya Brown, and Lois Jenkins teamed with Parker to run a :50.25 final - good for 14th place.

The Newark girls track team also picked up a 96-36 win over the Waterloo Indians last week in Newark. Parker won three times: 100 meter dash in 12.7 seconds, 110 hurdles in 19.1 seconds, and the shotput - 41 ft. 5 inches.
