Day of Caring planned

United Way of Wayne County will hold its annual Day of Caring on Thursday, March 27. Hundreds of people from companies and organizations will spend the day volunteering to help their neighbors in need.

The Day of Caring represents a community-wide celebration of the power of volunteering; workers will experience the services provided by agencies and will see how their contributions help people in need right here in Wayne County.

The Day of Caring committee, chaired by Barbara Henrichon, invites volunteers from area companies, organizations and unions to give their time to help local health and human service agencies.

"Opportunities are endless. You can read stories to pre-schoolers, paint rooms at a youth center or just spend time with lonely senior citizens," said Henrichon. "Volunteers will also get a chance to see how their contributions help people in need."

Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the Lyons Community Center, Broad Street in Lyons. Then they'll go to health and human service providers throughout Wayne County. Volunteers will receive free Day of Caring T-shirts or caps. This event will kick off the 1997 United Way/Red Cross Campaign.

United Way is a non-profit organization that brings together businesses and organizations in a community-wide effort to help our neighbors in need. To become a Day of Caring volunteer, call the United Way office at 331-2773.
