Trees uprooted by 70 mph
winds
The big winds last Saturday morning and afternoon
uprooted several trees, mostly big pines, in and around Newark.
The winds downed electrical wires on Church Street near Hoffman,
and knocked down trees on East Maple, Driving Park Avenue,
Colton, Stansel, and Vienna Streets. Around the county, trees and
roofs were damaged, including the roof of the Pal-Mac High School
gym, and a restaurant in Savannah.
About 3000 NYSEG customers and 17,000 RG&E
customers lost power at some time during the storm. Pictured are
trees that lost the battle on East Maple and in Perkins Park
behind the middle school. (S. Marcano photos)
