Danehy steps down as hospital CEO

Newark-Wayne Community Hospital president and chief executive officer L.J. "Bud" Danehy, has accepted a full-time position as senior vice preident and assistant to the president of the Greater Rochester Health System (GRHS), effective February 1, 1997. William R. Holman, CHE, chief operating officer of the Genesee Hosital, will assume additional responsibilty as interim president at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, also effective February 1.

At GRHS, Danehy will assist GRHS CEO Roger S. Hunt in leading the System's government relations, community development, and governance development functions. He will also lead efforts to forge closer relationships with other health agencies and providers. Danehy has served as Newark-Wayne's chief executive for over 14 years, leading the evolution of the 120-bed hospital to health care campus encompassing acute care, a 160-bed nursing home and adult day health care services. In addtion, he led the effort to affiliate the hospital with other urban health care providers through Rochester Health Care and later, the Greater Rochester Health System.

Holman joined The Genesee Hospital in 1995 as executive vice president and chief operating officer. With a master's degree in Health Services Administration, Holman has over 20 years' experience operating both teaching and community health care facilities. As interim president, Holman will work with Myers Community Hospital leadership to facilitate the planned merger of the two Wayne County hospitals, a move which is pending approval by the GRHS board as well as various governmental and regulatory bodies.
