New director named for Arts Council!

Wayne County Council for the Arts' Board of Directors has appointed Kevin Schoonover as executive director.

Taking over for John Worden, who left the organization in September, Schoonover has been WCCA's Interim Director since November. Helen Santelli, of Lyons, held the position of Interim Executive Director in September and October. Schoonover, a ten-year Wayne County resident, has been the Council for the Arts' Director of Services since August 1995.

Outgoing WCCA Board President Penny Tweedie says, "Kevin has many tough challenges ahead of him thanks to reduced funding and a growing deficit, but he has done a wonderful job so far. He has the confidence and support of the entire Board."

"I'm looking forward to the new year and turning around the perceptions the public still has for the arts in general and the Arts Council specifically," said Schoonover. "We plan to focus heavily on the arts and the artists that make Wayne County such a unique place to live. A renewed commitment from both Council staff and Board to highlight all the different types of Wayne County art in 1997 and beyond, makes this every exciting time."
