Dry Dock Bridge will stay open

Following citizen outcry over the closing of the Dry Dock Road Bridge, legislators have moved to keep the span open.

An overpass for the Dry Dock Canal Lock, the bridge connects Old Lyons Rd. and Dry Dock Rd. It is used frequently by those who live on Dry Dock Rd. (and others) to bypass Route 31 traffic. When the Thruway Authority, which oversees canal operations, announced plans to close the bridge, Lyons residents cried foul.

Dry Dock Rd. residents expressed concerns about emergency vehicles being able to reach them quickly (without being able to bypass Route 31 traffic and the Lyons traffic lights) Lyons Highway crews also had concerns, as the trucks and plows use the bridge. Without the bridge, the crew would have to create a "turn-around' for the large vehicles.

Lyons took its fight to state legislators, who announced Thursday that the bridge will remain open. A statement issued by Senator Michael Nozzolio and Assemblyman Bob Oaks said that they had worked closely with Town Supervisor Jm Fabino to keep the bridge open.
