FoxFire back together again! FoxFire, one of the area's most popular rock bands of the '70s will reunite for a performance on July 19. The band members were originally based in Newark and are now scattered throughout the country. Over the years, they've managed to stay in touch and have often talked about a reunion. Now they're really going to do it.
The group has been planning their reunion since January and will bring back many rock favorites: from Led Zeppelin to Deep Purple to Humble Pie, the Allman Brothers, Edgar Winter and so many more from their sets of 1973 and '74. Mark Block, former manager of the band, has been coordinating the event with the members and the owners of "Tom Jones' nightclub in Lyons. The band will take the Tom Jones stage at 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 19. "The response from those who know about this has been very exciting," said Block. "The band will be putting their hearts and souls into their performance and everyone who comes will be in for a rockin' good time!" The evening holds a special place in Block's heart - it not only brings everyone back together, but it is being dedicated to his brother Doug, who passed away 12 years ago. Lead singer for FoxFire, Doug was a Newark native who sang with several area bands. After FoxFire, he pursued his music career to Nashville, but fell victim to cancer. A singer with great energy and enthusiasm, his life was cut short at the age of 33. The band will make a donation to the American Cancer Society in his name. No doubt, Doug's (and FoxFire's) many fans, friends and colleagues will come together for this reunion - to celebrate his life, renew old friendships, reminisce and rock 'n' roll. Join the crowd.
