Newark Canalside music festival

Bring the whole family, folding chairs and blankets to the banks of the Erie Canal at T. Spencer Knight Park in Newark, for this year's inaugural Newark Canalside Music Fest.

Each Sunday, a different local band will perform from 2-6 p.m. on E.R.I.E.'s floating Peter Wiles Stage, August 3 through 24. Let there be Light!!

Leading off on August 3 will be a reunion of The Waterbrothers, featuring Sodus Point's Lynn Carlyle and Arcadia's Bob Walpole. The Waterbrothers offer an eclectic blend of acoustic music by such artists as. James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Joe Jackson and Paul Simon.

The Local Shepherds will entertain on August 10. Featuring former members of the Social Lepers, the band specializes in pop rock. With original music and covers of The Beatles, Van Morrison, Tom Petty and Chris Isaac, this Newark band is a must see. Band members are Fred Burgess, Jim Weiler, Harry Edwards, Rick Ross and Jim Shear.

Returning to the floating stage on August 17 will be Bob Prong's Salt of the Earth band. This band entertained an enthusiastic Newarkfest crowd in June, and will be back to offer their alternative rock originals and covers. Their Salt of the Earth CD has earned critical praise, and is available at local record stores, as well as at this show.

Euphoria will perform on August 24 with their rollicking mix of country, blues and rock. Members Lloyd "Hank" Kuehl, Gregory Hookstra, Will Pulver and Steven DeJohn will bring their many collective years of entertainment experience to the canalside.

The performances are sponsored by WACK/WNNR, The Greater Newark Chamber of Commerce, E.R.I.E. and Newarkfest.
