NYSP Major Christler promoted

New York State Police Superintendent, James W. McMahon has announced the appointment of Major David L. Christler to Assistant Deputy Superintendent, effective July 10.

Colonel ChristlerA Newark native, Major Christler has been commander of Troop E since August 1993 and has served in the ten-county area for twenty one of his 23 years with the state police. He resides in Newark with his wife Diane and daughters, Amy and Lauren.

As Assistant Deputy Superintendent-Uniform, Lieutenant Colonel Christler (pictured) will oversee uniform operations throughout New York State. He will supervise special services to include Division aviation, the mobile response team, K-9 units and scuba.

Major LawrenceMajor Peter A. Lawrence has been designated to replace Christler as Troop E Commander. Lawrence is the current Troop G commander at Loudonville. He served in the Monroe County area from 1974 to 1990. Promoted to the rank of lieutenant and later to captain, (pictured) commanded the statewide Community Narcotics Enforcement Team (CNET) until his promotion to major last September.

As Troop E Commander, Major Lawrence will supervise 378 uniform and BCI members along with 46 support staff throughout the counties of Monroe, Wayne, Cayuga, Seneca, Livingston, Ontario, Yates, Schuyler, Chemung and Steuben.
