Peace Run will go through Newark

A relay run across the length and breadth of America is dedicated to the cause of world peace will pass through Newark on Wednesday, August 6 at 10:30 a.m.

Runners in the 50-state Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run are carrying a flaming Peace Torch to symbolize their goal of peace through sports. The emphasis is on racial harmony and peace in our cities as the building block for world peace.

USA TODAY recently selected the Peace Run web site as a "Hot Site of the Day". Check out Peace Run Live, the daily, on-line journal written by the runners with actual photos, essays and live audio from each day's events, at http://www.peacerun.com.

The 11,000-mile U.S. Peace Run is part of the 70-nation Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, which has been held every other year since 1987.

The Peace Run includes simultaneous running events in the U.S., Canada, Eastern and Western Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Australia. The international portions of the Run - highlighted by a 45 nation European relay and a special run linking Israel and several neighboring countries - will emphasize a global theme of international peace and multicultural understanding.

The non-profit Peace Run was inspired by world peace advocate Sri Chinmoy, who has dedicated his life to promoting the cause of peace.

This year's global Peace Run began on April 19.
