Historic quilt returns to Arcadia

A quilt that was created in 1976 as a Bicentennial project was recently donated to the Arcadia Historical Society by Sally Maxwell of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Maxwell's mother Gladys Beal, who now resides in a nursing home near her daughter, helped to make the quilt with twelve other ladies of the Marbletown Neighborhood Center.

quilt in 1976Beal had purchased the quilt soon after it was completed and wanted to return it to a local historical group. It will be on display at the new Arcadia Historical Society Museum when that facility opens (on the corner of High and Mason in the former Christian Science Church).

Pictured are Muriel Gorall, Historical Society President Chris Davis, and Sally Maxwell at the Marbletown School House. (Don't forget to stop by the School House Saturday for the Strawberry Social.)
